I would give this 3.5 if I could but I can't quite do 4. First off, very clean and welcoming place. Seated quickly and greeted nicely. Quick waters and service. New server but she did amazing and was very attentive. Service was 5/5 and so was the physical place. Oysters- half dozen, good price and they were delicious! Very clean, very large and the citrus combo was really delicious. No fishy smell, very fresh and highly recommend. 10 piece sushi- came with salad and miso soup. Salad was amazing. Not your typical just bagged lettuce and carrots. Fresh, came with strawberries, pineapple, beets and a nice dressing. The miso soup was also delicious. No tofu but did have seaweed and the taste was almost too salty but not actually over the line. Really enjoyed the miso soup. Here's where the lower score comes in. The actually sushi I was so disappointed in. After having such an amazing lead up, it just flopped. Rice to fish ratio was off, too much rice. Not sure if it even was sushi rice but there was something definitely off. The rice didn't hold its shape and it was dry and bland. Usually some mirin or rice vinegar is mixed to add a little hint of flavor but nothing. This led to the fish also being bland and dry? Can raw fish be raw? It wasn't inedible but it really had zero flavor at all. There was also too much wasabi, for my taste. I love nigiri but this was very disappointing. I would go back to try other food but I think the nigiri I will skip. Still if you're in the area, stop by and grab some food.

Service was good. Rice was fresh, short rib was amazing. Sushi was okay, not great maybe it was the roll I got. Outdoor patio is really cute

We were at Pismo area and was looking for a nice dinner place for my birthday weekend and decided on Umi The place is nice and quaint. They actually have an outdoor area but it was too cold to try it. Lol The food was very good. Very fresh ingredients. Our server was very attentive and was checking on us at a good pace.

    Chef's special

The BEST SUSHI ON THE CENTRAL COAST. The owner, yes a woman, makes sure everything is fresh & made from scratch including her sauces & salad dressings & she only buys the best fish for everything. Excellence at its finest Exactly what you would expect from a small mom& pop joint.

Service was super slow and really subpar. The food was awful. I'm genuinely surprised people go here for sushi.

The Asahi arrived in a frozen mug, which made it even more refreshing. We also ordered the Shell Beach Sunset roll, which had an amazing balance of raw and cooked fish, vegetables, and the added crunch of tempura flakes. All the flavors and textures worked perfectly together. The nine-piece sashimi was beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. For dessert, we had the tempura ice cream and the green tea cheesecake--both were absolutely delicious. Honestly, everything we ordered was fantastic. Our servers, Jasmine and Austin, truly killed it. They were friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaged throughout the meal. The restaurant itself had great lighting and décor, was spotless and well-maintained, even down to the restrooms. Parking was plentiful and free. Overall, we had a wonderful time with family and friends. An amazing experience and definitely worth coming back to.

I had to stop eating to make sure I could enjoy them together - even though they were both ordered together and the only thing I got. I honestly wanted to eat more but the server was pretty rude to me in particular despite trying to be as nice as possible to him. After my second order I left especially because while delicious it still felt overpriced especially for a very causal environment with a TV playing sports. I would get takeout next time and eat at a nearby vista point.

This review is for the Teppanyaki grill only. Let me start by saying the bad reviews are most…read morelikely from uptight people that most likely suffer from TDS. We went for my wife's birthday on 11/29/25 and had a fantastic time and enjoyed some amazing food. I read one review from a lady complaining about the price of ordering extra rice. The potion of fried rice they give you is so much we couldn't finish it. If you have to order extra rice for your husband and son, they are probably obese and should exercise some portion control. And if you want to order sushi, go sit at a damn sushi table. Don't bring a bunch of bratty kids to the teppan grill to order from the sushi bar like the annoying family we were seated with. Secondly, I hear a lot of reviews that say the server was sarcastic and rude. This is not the case at all. She actually has a sense of humor and is very funny. She just doesn't put up with peoples BS. Unfortunately, most uptight people have no sense of humor. She put a bratty kid in his place that really deserved it, after the yuppy dad would not, and it was hilarious. She is very sweet and brought my wife a complimentary desert. We both ordered the calamari and fillet minion with fried rice. It was amazing and the chef was great and also very talkative and funny. The setting is verry cool in front of big windows and comfy chairs. The food is not greasy, and flavorless like was mentioned in a review. It seems to me society is way to spoiled for their own good. And to those that complain about the prices please stay home if you can't afford to go out for a good meal. And maybe don't plunk out children you can't afford either. And remember the only ones your kids are special to is you. Yanagis =5 stars! Annoying people with brat kids that can't put their smart phone away at dinner = 0 stars.

So, the next day, I placed an order on-line for 3 simple rolls off their on-line menu. I get a call 2 minutes later when someone said that they didn't understand my order. I asked them what the hell it was that they didn't understand. I was hung up on. I drove the 3 blocks to their establishment and was told that I wouldn't be served. I labeled this behavior B.S. I went across the street next to California Market and got better sushi for half the price ! A couple of the drinks didn't quite hit, but the "Sunset and Chill" was a group favorite. The wedge salad isn't traditional, but it's delicious and a nice twist on the classic. The lasagna was a standout -- rich, decadent, and really satisfying. The portion looks small, but don't be fooled. Service was great throughout. They gave us semi-private seating, which we really appreciated, and the outdoor setup added a fresh, airy feel while still keeping things cozy for our group. For dessert, the toasted marshmallow torte was the clear table favorite -- definitely the one to try. The lemon tart was good too, but if you're choosing one, go marshmallow. All dishes were given with care but not necessarily to overly impress, meaning that the portion size was generous rather than dainty. The service was great, restaurant was clean, and the food absolutely blew us away. We had the spicy tonkatsu ramen, two rolls and the garlic edamame. The ramen had a perfect balance of spice, not too spicy but enough to get the nose running. The edamame was amazing, it came out in a reddish sauce which the server said was a house specialty. Not your traditional garlic edamame but imo better than what I've had elsewhere. I would say the food is a little expensive, but everything came in massive portions. The two rolls had at least a dozen pieces on each and the sunshine roll had enough salmon and ahi draped over top for a whole 'nother roll. I do not mind these prices when it feels like you get what you payed for. We will definitely be back!

Probably one of the most expensive sushi places I've been to. $14 for a Cali hand roll. It was large and the rice had an odd sweet flavor to it? Wasn't a fan. I got the tonkatsu ramen. Only meat, onion, and added tofu. It said it would come with slices but it came with chunks of pork that was boiled.. I wanted the slices. The ramen itself was alright. The gyoza/potstickers were good. Probably my favorite. $9 side of kimchi... it was pretty good. Sadly I don't think I'll be back with these prices.
