The grill is a fun thing to do for birthdays but I felt a little sour going into the experience yesterday after seeing that the handicap ramp is extremely in need of repair. My father has a wheelchair and it was extremely difficult to get him into the building with the bumpiness, and uneven pavement. When we looked at the menu, you can see they raised prices significantly but with no investment back into the property. Please fix your handicap ramp before someone gets hurt! read more

I've been going here for at least 8 years. At first it was good sushi at a reasonable price; then it was good sushi at a high price; NOW, it's bad sushi at a high price. We typically went 2-3 times a month. Our family would get boats and individual rolls and sides, but the last 3 trips over 3 months there have been so unimpressive and yet expensive that we now refuse to go these. Terrible service- no one had a personality. Went in to purchase a to-go order and they seemed shocked that I didn't place my order on-line. So, the next day, I placed an order on-line for 3 simple rolls off their on-line menu. I get a call 2 minutes later when someone said that they didn't understand my order. I asked them what the hell it was that they didn't understand. I was hung up on. I drove the 3 blocks to their establishment and was told that I wouldn't be served. I labeled this behavior B.S. I went across the street next to California Market and got better sushi for half the price ! This review is for the Teppanyaki grill only. Let me start by saying the bad reviews are most likely from uptight people that most likely suffer from TDS. We went for my wife's birthday on 11/29/25 and had a fantastic time and enjoyed some amazing food. I read one review from a lady complaining about the price of ordering extra rice. The potion of fried rice they give you is so much we couldn't finish it. If you have to order extra rice for your husband and son, they are probably obese and should exercise some portion control. And if you want to order sushi, go sit at a damn sushi table. Don't bring a bunch of bratty kids to the teppan grill to order from the sushi bar like the annoying family we were seated with. Secondly, I hear a lot of reviews that say the server was sarcastic and rude. This is not the case at all. She actually has a sense of humor and is very funny. She just doesn't put up with peoples BS. Unfortunately, most uptight people have no sense of humor. She put a bratty kid in his place that really deserved it, after the yuppy dad would not, and it was hilarious. She is very sweet and brought my wife a complimentary desert. We both ordered the calamari and fillet minion with fried rice. It was amazing and the chef was great and also very talkative and funny. The setting is verry cool in front of big windows and comfy chairs. The food is not greasy, and flavorless like was mentioned in a review. It seems to me society is way to spoiled for their own good. And to those that complain about the prices please stay home if you can't afford to go out for a good meal. And maybe don't plunk out children you can't afford either. Still very good sushi and honestly I am still surprised by the reviews. Very fresh, large rolls, good whether as cold sushi or hot sushi. They have specials of course with unique names and items. They also have an option for Teppanyaki , which I haven't tried but it does look pretty intriguing. Tons of alcoholic options haha, and other options besides sushi! ** visited on Sat. 6/8/2024 The staff was super kind and pretty attentive, though it was a little loud during today's visit - there were filled habachi tables & a few birthdays taking place (for those sensitive to loud sounds, for birthdays the staff gives you & your party tambourines to hit when singing happy birthday!) the visit was pleasant in itself, there was a nice view of Pismo & you can see parts of the ocean. OKAY THE FOOD: My boyfriend and I ordered the Yanagi Boat, and when we tried to order extra rolls on the side, the staff was kind enough to have our ordered rolls be the "chef's choice" rolls on the boat. The Yanagi boat comes with 2 specialty rolls where the Chef picks. The specialty rolls weren't too bad, they kept falling apart when trying to pick them up but it could be user error. The sashimi included on the Yanagi Boat was pretty tasty, though you can tell it was frozen - some of the pieces were pretty wet or just SUPER cold biting into it. Overall this location was alright, I prefer the Paso location for rolls for sure but would definitely come back to this location to try their habachi :-) read more

Food was excellent! Very fresh with all of the dishes. The Yellowtail collar was excellent. I highly recommend the Fire on Fire Roll and the OMG! Great rolls!!! The restaurant sits on top of the hill and the view is outstanding. They have five Tapenaka tables and is always fun when they light up the fires. We had Green Tea and Mango Mochi because you can't have Sushi without Mochi;) The service was amazing. Everything came out quick and our server was very attentive. We will definitely come back! Tonight, we had a group of 4 adults & 1 child. When we were told that gratuity was automatically added on, we were confused but didn't make a fuss. All of our meals came with rice & if you wanted fried rice, it would be an extra $3.50. My husband always orders 2 rice, as well as my son. I usually just white rice. My 10 year old son ordered for himself for the first time & forgot to order an extra fried rice. So when I ordered, I told them just to add an extra fried rice. So when the bill came, we were charge an extra $7 for my husband's 2 fried rice bowls & $3.50 for my son's fried rice. I was charged $3.50 for fried rice & $2.95 for white rice. I thought it was just an accident & since the floor supervisor was next to us, I let him know that I shouldn't have been charged but it wasn't a huge deal. Our waitress, who was watching from across the room, rushed over & immediately started to defend herself. She doubled down & said I was charged for both white rice & fried rice because I ordered both. I replied that my dish came with white rice already so I should've just been charged $3.50 for the fried rice. She started arguing with me saying that if I had walked in & just ordered fried rice, it would be $5.00. I said that would still be less than what I paid & that my husband paid $7 for 2 fried rice bowls & I paid $6.45 for 1 fried rice bowl & a white rice bowl that came with my meal. I had told the supervisor that I didn't want a refund but wanted to point this out because it was the principal. However, after the waitress was so rude & kept trying to justify why she did this, it just made me angry. I had already known that she shouldn't have charged automatic gratuity & was going to let that go but her attitude just infuriated me. Delicious sushi spot! They have hibachi grill and table seating with regular menu orders. We got cucumber salad, green salmon roll, lobster roll, salmon collar, and tonkatsu ramen. The food was very fresh and good. I liked how fresh the cucumber salad was. The green salmon roll was rice less with cucumber wrap. The lobster roll was probably my favorite. The salmon collar is fresh and super flaky. I didn't even really need the sauce with it. The tonkatsu ramen is super good and not really oily like some, and the meat was super tender. Worst place to go if you have gluten allergies. I told the server multiple times about my allergies to gluten. Specifically asked about each item ordered. 3 things I ordered gluten free came with gluten items. It either had a sauce containing gluten or it had tempera friend around my role which was not the same as listed on the menu description. The waitress tried to tell me tempera wasn't gluten lol. I had to explain how serious it is to serve an allergen to people. She even up charged me for real crab that looked can and I couldn't even eat the item! So basically I had edamame and lettuce for my lunch for $70. The owners need to update their menus with correct information. I will not be returning there and I'm a local of 40 years Such an easy fix but sad they are not concerned about protecting their customers from serious illnesses. read more

We hadn't eaten at Yanagi in several years but we're invited to dinner to celebrate our friend's birthday. There were 11 of us and we were seated promptly at our tappan table. Amy was the order taker and she took drink orders and answered questions about the menu. Most ordered one protein and several of us ordered 2 protein combinations. Several ordered rolls either as an appetizer or for their entrees. The chef was entertaining and we all enjoyed it very much. My filet and shrimp combo was delicious. I went to this spot in Pismo Beach with my team when we were on training trip to San Luis Obispo. In my quest to to Ramen spots out of town, I was able to convince my team to try this restaurant since it included Ramen, Sushi and other delicious Japanese dishes. We were not disappointed. I had the worst experience at this place on Friday night. The hostess was rude and had a sarcastic attitude. We called ahead to make a reservation for a party of eight. They told us to arrive by 5:20 PM. Five out of the eight people arrived on time and were waiting in the lobby, but the hostess said they couldn't be seated until everyone was there. The rest of the party arrived at 5:30 PM, and the hostess then told us that we couldn't be seated because we were late. The restaurant wasn't even half full, and there were no other people waiting. The hostess had an indifferent attitude, insisting it was too late to seat us. When I asked to speak to the manager, she claimed the manager said the same thing but never came out to address us. Went here for my goddaughters birthday for dinner. The place is in a beautiful area with such a great view of the ocean and Pismo Beach. Inflation has made everything so much more expensive and I have to admit the Teppen menu prices had me shook for a minute, or 10. We ended of ordering some Salmon plates, steak and shrimp, and a sushi roll. The chef who made our food was great. Some of the jokes and stunts were so hilarious. The miso soup was good, the little salad was bland but ok. The fried rice, salmon, steak and shrimp was all amazing and filled with great flavor. The only bad part was they forgot my older goddaughter's sushi order and even when we told them about it it took forever for her to get it that I basically shared my salmon meal with her and she took the sushi home for lunch the next at school.
