We started with the seaweed salad and a cold pint of Asahi. The seaweed salad featured a variety of seaweeds, perfectly seasoned with what tasted like sesame--everything blended together beautifully. The Asahi arrived in a frozen mug, which made it even more refreshing. We also ordered the Shell Beach Sunset roll, which had an amazing balance of raw and cooked fish, vegetables, and the added crunch of tempura flakes. All the flavors and textures worked perfectly together. The nine-piece sashimi was beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. For dessert, we had the tempura ice cream and the green tea cheesecake--both were absolutely delicious. Honestly, everything we ordered was fantastic. Our servers, Jasmine and Austin, truly killed it. They were friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaged throughout the meal. The restaurant itself had great lighting and décor, was spotless and well-maintained, even down to the restrooms. Parking was plentiful and free. Overall, we had a wonderful time with family and friends. An amazing experience and definitely worth coming back to.

It was just okay, not worth my $$. The food lacked flavor and the service was not very good /: I was ignored most of the time and appetizers came out after the entree... I had to ask for 2 items more than 3 times I'll give them another chance in hopes it was just a bad day...

I felt a bit under the weather, so I was looking for something soupy for an early dinner. The place was open and clean, with many tables and a sushi bar. The staff was attentive and friendly. I ordered the 5 piece shrimp tempura to go with my sukiyaki. The shrimp was tender and the fry was light. The sukiyaki hit the spot, with udon noodles and quite a bit of beef. The broth was flavorful. Prices were reasonable.

The sushi tasted good overall. I was elated by the twist on their Philadelphia roll -- they added in refreshing lemon. However the order in which the food came out didn't make sense. First we got the spicy garlic edamame ($13), then the rolls quickly came out, then the miso soup, and finally the carpaccio. Just felt a little rushed since I really like to take my time eating my edamame. We tried the matcha cheesecake and unfortunately it wasn't the greatest -- it was a little dry and the portion was pretty small. I ultimately prefer goshi over Kanpai, but chose to try kanpai given its convenient location off the freeway.

The moment we walked in we felt welcomed. Everyone was friendly and although it was a bit busy we did not feel like we had to wait at all. Our order was taken right away and food was brought out pretty quick. We got the shrimp tempura as an appetizer. It was crispy and not overcooked on the inside. Had two rolls the popcorn shrimp was so good and a nice mix of textures and a little kick. Would deff get this again. We also got the crunchy dragon which was also good. Overall a great place can't wait to come back and try other items.

Amazing sushi in Pismo beach area! I recommend getting the "cheers". It comes with all that jazz. It starts with miso, side salad, edamame. Next up is shrimp tempura, a basic roll, a special roll, nine piece sashimi (chefs choice), eight piece nigiri (chefs choice). It's a lotttt of food and it's amazing. We enjoyed the pismo as our specialty roll. For the nigri and sashimi the fish melts in your mouth like a popsicle on a summer day. I would go back just purely for the scallops! There's outdoor seating if you want quiet or to bring your pup. We were a little forgotten about near the end as they picked up inside but that's the only negative I can think of, still would go back.

Make a reservation, as this is clearly a popular dining spot in the Spyglass area. Seating was very tight and more than 1 person bumped into my chair trying the get to the restroom. That aside, I'd definitely go back for another taste. The fried pork gyoza was good, but the sauce was strange to me. I enjoyed the dumplings more without the sauce. My husband opted for the deluxe omakase and thoroughly enjoyed everything but the Uni, which neither of us ever like. I chose the Miso Black Cod, and ohmylord, it was absolutely divine. This is the kind of dish that creates a memory. Craveable.

Unfortunately Kanpai didn't deliver for us. The pork belly in the ramen was overly fatty, and the Philly roll had lemon, pickled carrots, and cucumbers that were so sour it was pretty much inedible--not what I was expecting at all. The service was slow and the patio seating wasn't uncomfortable. There are better sushi and ramen options in SLO. I'd skip this one.

Was taking a few days to go down the California coast. First stop was Pismo Beach Called for a reservation for one hoping to sit at the bar. Arrived and it was jumping. Was seated at the bar and couldn't see anything. Got up to leave and was greeted by the manager, Michelle. She asked me to stay until another bar seat opened. Then she arrived with a complimentary draft beer. Was seated in a few minutes Tony served some wonderful fish a the miso was spot on ! After about a week in SoCal, it was time to get home. Made the final leg of my travels to end up in Pismo just to go back The wait staff was attentive and they all worked in harmony Definitely will be back

What I could not eat so nice leftovers. I had the salad dressing on the side and I put it in a little container.

This is by far my favorite Japanese Restaurant and it's close by. I usually have the plum wine (only with Japanese food) but decided to try Mio Sparkling Sake. First I thought too sweet but then it settled down. No Sake taste, more like a very light Champagne. I had my usually Chicken dinner as it comes with, Miso soup, salad, tempura, rice etc. They also give us ginger, which is so good for you. My husband had the Pismo roll with Miso soup and he ate some of my food. He likes the green tea, so that's what he drank. I have leftovers, yeh. Our server was Lucas, what a great person he is. Checked on us, made sure we had more tea, ginger etc. Boxed up everything for us. He had other tables, plus he was seating people, jack of all trades. There's plenty of parking and the place is quiet. Some limited outdoor seating.

(805 Sake Sushi) My husband went with the all-you-can-eat menu and loved it. I chose to order individually because I'm on a high-protein diet and wanted more sashimi and rolls without as much rice. I ordered the 15-piece sashimi, and it was outstanding. The fish tasted fresh, the portion was surprisingly filling, and it was absolutely worth it. If you're looking for lower-carb or higher-protein options, ordering à la carte may actually make more sense since a lot of the all-you-can-eat sushi selections are naturally more rice-heavy. One tip if you're bringing kids with smaller appetites: consider ordering them a single roll instead of paying for the kids' all-you-can-eat option. My daughter ordered just one roll and couldn't even quite finish it, so the all-you-can-eat price wouldn't have made sense for her. Overall, everyone left happy and full. My husband loved the all-you-can-eat experience, I loved being able to get exactly what I wanted with the sashimi, and the kids enjoyed their food too. Definitely a great option if you're in the Pismo Beach/Grover Beach area and craving sushi or Korean BBQ.

The biggest issue was the sushi rice. The rice in the nigiri was overly mushy, while the rice in several rolls contained hard, crunchy pieces that seemed undercooked. The seasoning was also off, with so much vinegar that the rice tasted noticeably sour. I've eaten sushi in many different places and have a wide range of experiences to compare it to, and this was among the poorest quality sushi I've had. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience fell well below expectations. While the staff was kind and welcoming, I would not return or recommend this restaurant based on the quality of the food.

This place definitely gets packed, so I highly recommend reserving a table in advance. We were lucky enough to get a window seat, and the outdoor patio views of the ocean are simply amazing! On top of that, the staff here has definitely become even more friendly--our server, Zach, was super efficient and attentive throughout our meal. The food was incredible from start to finish: * Mahi Mahi Fish Ceviche: We started with this alongside fresh tortilla chips, and it was honestly one of the best ceviches we've ever had. * Clam Chowder Soup: This special clam chowder came served with Parmesan cheese bread, which was absolute perfection. Again, hands down one of the best soups we've tasted! * Molcajete Surtido: For our main dish, we ordered this classic feast loaded with grilled colossal shrimp, arrachera steak, chicken breast, chorizo, spring onion, jalapeño peppers, nopalitos, avocado, pork rinds, molcajete salsa, queso fresco, and corn tortillas, served with a side of rice and beans. All the meats were so tender and flavorful, and the rice and beans were really nice. We were so full that we didn't even get to touch the tortillas! To top off a wonderful evening, they brought out a complimentary ice cream with a candle to celebrate my wife's birthday, which was such a thoughtful and sweet touch. Whether you're planning a special date night or a family outing, we definitely recommend Ventana Grill!

We were told that since they just opened, the food would take longer than expected (roughly around 15-20 minutes). However, to our surprise it came in 10 minutes! Now for the food review, it was okay. The ramen was bland and not spicy at all. I had let the server know that it wasn't spicy as was promised and expected and if we could have some spice to add onto it.
