Umiya was another AYCE sushi experience that started off swinging strong. They have a huge variety of fresh fish and rolls to choose from along with the usual Japanese appetizers and hibachi selection. The rolls were delicious with some creative combinations available. I'm a tuna fan, and they have a bunch of different seared and raw options to choose from, all very fresh tasting. Dessert was also included to nicely round out the meal with some cheesecake and ice cream. I did try some of their hibachi as well, and this was the only thing that let me down. The beef in both the teriyaki steak and the beef fried rice was dry and tough. At the end of the day, I came for the fish and sushi though, which did not disappoint.
Beautiful restaurant and sushi bar with all you can eat lunch made to order for $21 on a Saturday. Service was wonderful with the sweetest server. Will return.
Came here for the first time. Got the AYCE buffet and order a ton of food to make me regret it later when I'm staring at myself in the mirror without my shirt lol. Between my friend and I, we must've consumed a total of 50-60 sushis, 20 sashimis, 24 fried oysters, 5 steaks, 8 mussels, 20 4 scoops of ice cream, tapioca mango dessert, and probably a few more something that I can't remember lol. For $33, food was pretty delicious, but most of the fish was fresh. I enjoyed the Unagi and the salmon. They have a variety of sushis to choose from. Staff are friendly and fast. Food comes out pretty fast after we places it with our waitress. Lots of tables to dine on. There are individual private restrooms, but the one I used was super filthy and needed to be clean. Lots of parking in the area.
Loved this place! I'm always on the hunt for a good all-you-can-eat sushi spot and finally decided to try this one after passing by a few times--def worth it. They've got a ton of rolls to choose from, plus hibachi and desserts, which is a nice bonus. The Kobe beef seared sushi was sooo good. My boyfriend and I tried all the desserts too and everything hit. For about $32, it's a great deal. We're already talking about going back!
I finally had the chance to visit Umiya Sushi located off I10 and Wirt, in the same center as Love's Dumpling House. Some of my friends have been raving about this AYCE (all you can eat) sushi place so I took my family of four and decided to eat as much as humanly possible. We went on a Saturday for a late lunch (arrived at 1 pm). Parking is free and if you don't want the hassle of tight parking, don't try to park right in front and you'll be fine. Walk a bit. Upon entry, we only waited a few minutes and were seated at a table that technically fit 6. Service was pretty good. Unlike a buffet that I'm used to, the server takes your order and then delivers your food. They do this over and over until you're full. Overall I would say the service was good. As for ambiance - the place is quite big and pretty nice, I must say. It's not over the top, but they definitely put in some money to make the restaurant look and feel nice. Now for the food - I thought it was great. Tastier and higher end than a place like Kura, the $20 price for lunch is unbeatable for a Japanese AYCE place, and the variety of offerings was quite impressive. I thought taste overall was excellent and I would definitely come back again, maybe once a month, on a cheat day when I don't mind gaining a few pounds all at once. We tried as much as we could - hot appetizers, rolls, seared sushi, nigiri, soup, and even the desserts. Everything was great! Fish was fresh, hot food came out very hot, and rolls were packed with flavor. Hungry and got $25 in your pocket? Check out Umiya and you will leave very satisfied.
Umiya is one of my favorite AYCE sushi in Houston. Every time I am super hungry or craving a large amount of sushi for a good deal, Umiya is the first place go to. They have a lot of options from the sushi rolls to nigiris to other appetizers. Their seared sushi is fresh and buttery, and if you eat 10 alone, you are almost getting your money's worth! Definitely a must get when going. The yellowtail jalapeno is another favorite of mines and consist of yellowtail Hamachi topped with jalapenos, masago, and soy sauce. They have a variety of rolls to choose from, but I like the Hot Mama Roll. There is a fire sign nest to it, but the roll consists of hot cheetos and is not spicy at all. The Hot Mama Roll has a good mixture of textures with the crispy chips. The inside is spacious, and there is a lot of seating and parking. Service is dependent on how busy the day is with it being a bit slower on the weekends. Umiya is a nice place to visit for AYCE and has been my go-to for AYCE sushi. Make sure to come hungry and definitely try their seared nigiris!
Another Houston AYCE sushi place crossed off our list. Sashimi was a cut into nice thick slices, for our first round they survived it over ice. For the second round it wasn't. Rolls were traditional AYCE rolls, not much stood out in my opinion. Overall would recommend if you wanted AYCE sushi in Houston.

I've been debating all day about how I wanted to write this review. But since I am now on my second round of explosive diarrhea today -- Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant. There were two hairs in my Cucumber Salas. (I wish I would've taken a photo!) Something just seemed off. Even though the restaurant itself is spacious and decorated very nicely, I just don't think I would come back here. It's overpriced and the quality was not great.
All I could dream would be a more accurate name for this entire experience! I was hopeful that after the long drive, the food quality and quantity would be sufficient, it was far more than that! Out servers were caring and sat our group at a large table with both chair and booth seating. We were frequently checked in on and never had an empty glass. The menu was extensive and our server explained and answered all our questions. And the sashimi and sushi! What a selection and what flavors and textures! The pink lady roll and the yellowtail sashimi were my personal favorites, but everything was so good. The cuts of fish were fresh and generous. Standouts were the sesame balls, the fried oreos and the red bean ice cream.

I did a lot of research on AYCE sushi around my area, and Umiya really caught my attention because of the beautiful decorations and how good the food looked online. We came around 6 pm and did the dinner option. At that time, the restaurant was not very busy, only a few tables. But around 7 pm, it became a full house. Trust me, come before 6 if you want a table without a long wait. The price was 32.95 per person, and soft drinks are not included. They also have a full drink menu and boba, which is a nice bonus. We ordered a lot that night and left extremely full. Everything we tried was delicious. I also loved how beautifully each plate was decorated. Every dish came out looking so pretty and fancy, it honestly made me feel like I was dining at a high end restaurant, not just an AYCE spot. One thing that really impressed me is that they also have seared sushi. I love that seared flavor, and Umiya gave me the chance to eat a lot of it, which really gave me an omakase style experience. The AYCE menu has many dishes that I have never seen at other sushi restaurants. That really surprised me in a good way. I usually get bored seeing the same options everywhere, but this place was different and impressive. I forgot our waiter name, but he was amazing. Very nice, attentive, and gave us excellent service. Even when the restaurant got really busy, he never made us wait. Every time we finished a round, he was already there to take our next order. When we left, there was a long line outside of people waiting to dine in, which says a lot about how popular this place is. Overall, this is the best AYCE sushi restaurant I have ever been to. It is probably my number one spot right now. Great food, beautiful presentation, and amazing service made the whole experience even better. I definitely recommend coming here, just make sure to make a reservation if you plan to visit on a weekend night because it gets very busy.
I went Saturday lunch for the AYCE deal. I really wanted love this place but was pretty disappointed. The sat lunch price deal was great as it was the same as a weekday deal, but the fish wasn't as fresh as the other sushi restaurants. There was a fishy aftertaste to the sushi and the flavors of the sushi roll were pretty overpowering or lacking. The seared sushi was the best as well as the tataki for appetizers. The ambiance was pretty dark inside and interior not as cleanly decorated as I wanted. The indoor ceiling lights were very loud and clashed with the japanese decor. Overall, the waitress and waiters were fast and attentive. But would like the interior and food quality to improve.

Solid spot for all you can eat sushi!! Really enjoyed their speciality rolls and seared sushi! The sushi does have a bit more rice than I would like! Outstanding service! They would alway come right on time for another order when we would finish our last bite. read more

Hands down new favorite all you can eat sushi in Houston for an affordable price. Came with my hungry husband and son. They offer different price points for kids which is great compared to others. The service was on point. I never felt like we had an issue getting her attention. Our food came fast. The sushi tasted fresh. Nothing tasted fishy. The selection was decent. I really enjoyed some of the salmon options along with the fried Oreos for dessert. Now for the feel... fresh which was refreshing. Decent amount of lighting with space for tables. I didn't feel like we were on top of other tables nor in the way of anyone just sitting. Overall highly recommend. read more

I'm all about the AYCE experience in my prime eating days, even an honorable founder of the Facebook group - "The BFF club" (Buffet Fans Forever) *it's really more of a joke among my buddies in college as we explore an AYCE place every month. The key for me in rating a good buffet has always been 1) freshness 2) selections 3) price to value ratio and 4) service. For my first visit here at Umiya, most of these boxes are checked pretty well. I like the a-la carte ordering process, there's a limit for the # of sashimi we can get but the food comes out quick enough. A solid variety of appetizers, rolls, sashimi and some noodle/rice dishes.. The star of the show has to be the seared sushi for me. The steak was tender, the salmon was tasty, everything was pretty good. (Look it's not Uchi or Azumi in terms of quality or presentation, but you are getting a good value play here). Some hibachi/teriyaki can be hit or miss but the the sushi/seared sushi makes the grade for me. Our waiter was very friendly and checked in with us often enough without the awkwardness of waiting/asking for more. The inside is fairly spacious, there's a bit of a wait for dinner rush on the weekends. Parking is convenient with the shared lot in the shopping center. Definitely one of my favorite AYCE sushi places so far in Houston. FYI save room for the green tea ice cream and the fried Oreos tempura.. worth the extra calories read more

Overall a satisfied experience. The fish was fresh and I appreciated that the rolls weren't overly sauced. Didn't need to rely on extra toppings for flavor. If it wasn't for the inconsisitent service speeds, I would've gave my first 5/5. Pros: + Great variety for price + Seared options for lunch + Fresh fish + Rolls weren't overly sauced + Free parking lot Cons: - Too much rice in nigiris and was dense - Food was slower than I'd like. First round took ~ 20 minutes and it was an order for 8 pieces nigiri. Since it's AYCE, the pauses made it difficult to pace myself properly and increased the risk of going over the time limit. - Most rolls come in 8 pieces. For a solo diner, this makes it hard to try a wide variety. read more
Nut allergy warning: There is a peanut avocado roll, but I had no issues with what I ordered and didn't mention the allergy. Parking: Plenty in the plaza, I had to park a bit further near Spec's We arrived at noon with a party of four on a Friday and it was relatively packed, but we were seated with no wait. Service was generally pretty quick! We only waited about 5-10 minutes for light bites like miso soup, and 10-15 minutes for sushi orders. With a group of 4, we got about 2-3 rolls each and a variety of the other dishes: Seared Sushi (4.5/5): This is probably the most unique offering on their menu and I would go back and order a lot more of it during lunch. The cuts they use are a bit tough, but this is the best balance of fish to rice during lunch hours and are actually a great palette cleanser. Eel sushi (4/5): The other thing I'd definitely go back for, not as tender as other places but still good. Miso Soup (3/5): Average, not enough tofu or seaweed for me. Most of the special sushi rolls were okay - a lot of rolls focused on avocado, and make sure you read to see if you're getting the wrap in soy paper. I don't think any especially stood out to me but I'd say the Red Snapper roll is good if you want soy paper, and the Dragon Roll was good. I ate a bunch of the Lexington (baked roll) and it was too heavy for me, but no one else at my table wanted it. They had a good variety but most of the rolls ultimately were filled with shrimp tempura or imitation crab, which is on par with other lower priced AYCE spots. Their green tea ice cream was a fantastic way to round out the meal. I skipped the sesame balls but my table enjoyed them enough to get two orders. Overall, service is very good and the lunch price is excellent for a decent variety AYCE. I'd definitely go back and get less rolls and more sushi/seared sushi pieces. read more
It was OK. The wife and I both think it's better than Sushi Masa in Sugarland (I hear that there are more locations now. I'm happy for their success). Service was polite and quick. Ambiance is pretty straight forward. The restaurant wasn't full full and we were one of three tables of Asian people (take that as you will). $35/person.... Would I go back? Yeah.... Everything from the attentive service to the mellow ambiance to the delicious food considering the price point was great. We were immediately greeted and seated upon entering the facility, with our server, Angel, going through each part of the menu. Food and drinks were served quickly, and quite delicious. The sashimi and sushi fish was fresh, though I wish there was more of it. Miso soup was filled with kombu, tofu and flavor. I would skip the sago with coconut milk for now, as, although it's very refreshing, I think a few tweaks to the item would do it well: adding some sweetness and depth of flavor, and maybe changing the mango component as it adds a bit too much sourness. Decent AYCE sushi spot in Spring Branch. $20 for lunch is a great deal. You order with your waiter, and they can accommodate a decent sized order from your table. The food comes in when ready, from multiple servers. Sushi selection is pretty good, my friend really liked the salmon. The offerings are very similar to Sushi Masa in Sugar Land, but Umiya definitely has the edge. Their tempura is more consistent and well-battered. Their shrimp tempura is REALLY good, I probably had at least 6 of those. Also the tempura oreo and banana is a nice addition. Good vibe, lots of space, and seeing a sushi counter is kinda nice. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff. Great spot when you just want cheap sushi and tempura. read more
Imagine my surprise when I was heading home and saw there's a Umiya Sushi in Houston. The last time I had them was when I was in Corpus Christi. I ordered some of the same stuff I use to order to see if it would still be the same. Let's start with the crab puffs. They were ok. A little too hard fried and too sweet not enough crab. The egg rolls were ok nothing special. The shaggy roll was as good as I expected. But the real star of the show was the harbor bridge roll. I demolished them so quick. Overall I'm so happy that one of my favorite restaurants is local and I get to enjoy my favorite rolls. I will definitely be back to try that all you can eat deal! read more

This time, we gathered our group for Umiya off I-10 - I was pleased that they were able to take our dinner reservation for a large table, so everything was already set up for us when we arrived! After a quick skim of the menu, we placed our food and drink orders with the personable and efficient waitress; here are my thoughts on what we tried: Appetizers: Umiya's menu includes not only the standard marinated/steamed/fried dishes you'll see at every Japanese AYCE, but also small unagi don and chirashi dishes. We were initially worried about portion sizes but the waitress assured us they would be manageable. The unagi don was actually quite good, and easily split between my friend and me - highly recommend! We also split a rainbow Naruto roll, which was a little lopsided - it was hard to eat without everything falling out of the cucumber wrap. If you've been fasting for AYCE like we usually do, definitely opt for a few appetizers while you wait for larger sushi or sashimi plates to be prepared. Sushi/sashimi: The raw fish here was fresh and well-portioned, and I appreciated that they didn't lose any of our orders! We particularly liked the seared nigiri choices - we jokingly described the seared salmon as "fish butter" and ordered quite a few rounds of those. As the main attraction, this part of the menu does not disappoint! Rolls: We didn't go as roll-crazy as we usually do at other places, but we did enjoy the ones we tried! Our favorites were the Tsunami, Pink Lady, and Dragon rolls. Many of the rolls are fully cooked, so it's a very approachable menu for friends or folks who don't like raw fish. Hot food: We split a few hot items to break up rounds of fish. The shrimp hibachi and chicken teriyaki were juicy and well-seasoned, while the takoyaki and gyoza were cleanly fried. Feel free to order a few if your palate is needing a reset! Dessert: Between several ice cream flavors and tempura sweets, there's something for everyone here as long as you saved some stomach space :) I was definitely getting full but I still enjoyed my hot banana tempura with a scoop of cookies and cream. I also tried a cup of their coconut sago, which was pleasantly sweet and refreshing (if lacking in substance). The restaurant was busy but not crowded when we went, which I liked in terms of service, noise control, and food turnover. It doesn't really have other competition in Spring Branch, so I'm actually surprised it wasn't busier. All in all, Umiya is a solid choice in its neighborhood, and its location along I-10 is ideal for many Houstonians - I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area! read more

This is a great place for AYCE dinner with a pretty valuable menu for the price. There are tons of options: hot, cold, rice bowls, rolls, appetizers and soups. There are limitations on how much sashimi you can order per person per round, but it's very reasonable! I came with friends in a large group, and the restaurant is really large so there's plenty of space. We have a method to the AYCE madness of ordering where we place all the orders in the Notes app so the waitress can just enter them at once which saves everyone the hassle. Everything was delicious but we did have an issue with the Pinky Lady roll on the second round due to how it was cut and the soy paper being soggy by the time it got to us but the staff took it off with no issue. My personal favorites were the seared salmon and the spicy garlic edamame! Overall, this is a solid restaurant for AYCE and I'd recommend it. read more

Came here for AYCE and Service was attentive and the environment of the place wasn't too loud. We came in during lunch (great lunch deals) and seared pieces were totally worth it. We weren't a huge fan of the noodles but the rest of the sushi were good. Its on par with other AYCE places in the area definitely. read more

I have to give this guys a solid 5 , the food you get for your money is above, and beyond, I have been here a few times now, they have not failed, good food, service, and they set the mood, I think for $20 all you can eat is worth every penny! Keep up the good work! read more

Went to Umiya at their Katy Freeway location for ayce sushi for dinner. I had a reservation but they forgot to record the time during my call somehow so I ended up having to wait about an hour for a table to open up. I got a bunch of nigiri, sashimi, handrolls, and apps. I got the tuna carpaccio, yellowtail on fire, rainbow Naruto, and tuna/salmon lover. All were decent but probably skippable, my favorite was the yellowtail on fire. The handrolls were stufffed but if you want to try more things I would suggest limiting the amount you get. Salmon nigiri was ok quality. Not bad but not memorable either. I usually love seared nigiri's but I thought these were just ok as well. The star of the night was their salmon sashimi. The quality between their salmon nigiri and sashimi is like night and day. The sashimi was more fattier and melt in your mouth. I didnt realize that this was a chain and that I've already tried it in San Antonio. It's decent, but I probably wouldn't drive all this way with other places nearby read more
