    Seafood gumbo

We are back in Houston to check out the place and found ourselves hungry for seafood and of course, we came back here for great food, atmosphere and meeting friends. Wow, even on a Monday evening, their service is top-notch. I finally ordered their oysters from Prince Edward Island. Our server Danny was great suggesting to try it. Their special of the night (Chilean Sea Bass with white crabmeat on a bed of broccolini and risotto was a meal to remember. This will now be our seafood eatery of choice when we're in Houston. It's so close to the apartment and the food is beyond delicious!

The sushi rolls and oysters tasted super fresh. Really loved everything we ordered. Speedy and attentive service as well. Very team-oriented staff where everyone helps everyone. We recommend: -Fresh oysters! We liked the east coast more than gulf coast. -spicy tuna roll (the fried hot pepper on top was amazing) -lobster sushi roll (it is MASSIVE) We were surprisingly full after this and even kept a menu in case we needed more food. Will definitely come back when I have more time to spare during my lunch break!

This grilled coastal oyster board was the perfect bite of everything for one. I thought the bacon jam grilled oysters were so Texas and so delicious as were the fresh oysters on the half shell I got first. Everything grilled was seasoned to perfection. This chill, coastal/casual vibe is everything tucked right in the heart of "everything". Service, satisfactory. Will be back, fam in tow, for the Royale happy hour and Evening Royale.

It's my second time coming to this spot for brunch. They do brunch well and the portion size is just right. It doesn't matter if you have traditional breakfast (eggs, backing, home fries etc) or the honey butter French toast. I need to try the seafood next time I go. The service is consistent and the place has a nice vibe.

The location was a bit hard to find bc it was on the other side of the building. But the decor gave a relaxation elegant sea vibe. The menu was small but the quality of the food was great. I ordered the fish tacos that came with fries. But weee cooked perfectly. The taro chips came with the Brie grilled cheese which was also very well cooked. Bread was crispy on the outside and the cheese was soft on the inside. My fav foods were the taro chips from the grilled cheese plate and the fish tacos were my favorite. Very fresh fish not smelly at all. None of us ordered oyster bc we didn't know where the oysters came from and we assumed it was from the gulf which is still pretty warm at this time. I also tasted the lobster bisque and it was also delicious. You just can't go wrong here.

Good service... Gumbo was good especially with the extra rice.. Wasn't crowded at all.. The waiter was super helpful... This was my first time here and is really good and impressive.. The oysters were good and the shrimp entree was big portions and good... This might be my new favorite dinner spot in Houston. Good ambience, playlist and self parking is available along with valet.

    Bomb happy hour !

Always enjoy myself anytime I come here. I love the Royale Hour because I don't eat much and the portions are perfect as well as the prices. Maggie was my bartender today and she was great. I love this location because it has a lot of natural lighting and it just feels comfortable inside on a beautiful day.

Liberty Kitchen is a nice neighborhood spot to grab a bite or drink. They are located in somewhat of a shopping plaza, with plenty free self-parking and valet. I do think the valet is unnecessary but what do I know. Anyways, stopped by on a Monday for HH and they have a pretty impressive drink and food list for HH. Being plant based, I couldn't have anything from the HH menu so I went with the vegan poke bowl and my friend got the mussels and a margarita. My bowl came out within minutes and was delicious. They added mini chunks of apples to it so that was a plus for me. The service was also really good! The bartender was attentive and made sure we had all that we needed. I think the chef actually brought out our food and it's not like we ordered anything special. What stood out to me was the manager (I think that's who she was), was cutting up fruit and my friend asked if we could have some and she obliged with no hesitation. That little gesture meant a lot because she didn't have to. I'll definitely be back!

My goodness! It's the chargrilled oysters and seafood gumbo for meeeeeeee. The drinks are good too. The oysters came out perfectly chargrilled and still bubbling with goodness. The ambiance is very alluring and welcoming all at the same time. The customer service was great and our server wasn't too overbearing. Once we finished a meal, it seems a person came out of nowhere to get our empty plate. The quality of the food was as great as the service. Because of pricing, it's not a place I'd go every day but it's worth a good visit every other month for sure.

I was visiting and was craving seafood since we have been eating so much red meat on our trip. Everything we ordered was refreshing and delicious. Oddly enough our favorite was the side, lobster Mac n cheese. The lobster was super good same as the ahi. The service was good and our server was helpful at recommending us his favorite meals. We expected it to be busy by the time we got there but there was plenty to seat us during lunch time :)

Grand Lux Café -- Big Space, Big Portions, Big Win…read more This was a great find. We stopped by the Grand Lux Café to share lunch with one of my mom's first cousins while we were in town for a family event. When we arrived, the restaurant felt almost empty -- but that's only because the place is huge. In a smaller restaurant, the same number of people would've had the place packed to the gills. The decor immediately caught my attention. It gave me Cheesecake Factory vibes mixed with a touch of European flair. Lots of cement pillars, reliefs up top, and floors that looked like marble (though I'm pretty sure it was tile). Either way, it worked. The space felt grand without feeling cold. The staff was friendly, the service was fast, and the food was delicious -- which is really all you can ask for. This is definitely going on my list of go-to spots when I'm visiting the area again. This place would be perfect for large family gatherings or group meals. On our way out, I noticed a really nice bar area that looked ideal for small group meetups or quick lunch meetings. It felt versatile -- whether you're there to linger or just grab a bite. Now let's talk dessert. Right at the front entrance is a full dessert display where you can buy slices of cakes and pies -- or possibly the whole thing to take home. That part really reminded me of the Cheesecake Factory. And the food portions? Almost obscene. Generous doesn't even fully cover it. Huge plates, bold flavors, and nothing tasted bland. Maybe it's something in the Texas water, or maybe Texans just like their food rich and flavorful -- either way, my California taste buds didn't even need to reach for the salt. I highly recommend this place. If you're in the area, give it a try. And if something isn't quite right, let the staff know -- I get the sense they'll do their best to make it right. Enjoy the food journey.

We live in the area and passed by this spot so many times without even knowing The exterior is appealing and eye catching. The whole section of restaurants has a trendy and family friendly vibe. It would be the perfect spot to enjoy some outdoor bites and libations if not for the insufferable weather we have most of the year, but luckily, the interior is just as lovely. It's immaculate, well decorated, and deceptively spacious. There's plenty of booths, tables, and there's even a fully stocked bar and takeaway area The menu offers a variety of delicacies from a french dip, to pecan crusted chicken, to enchiladas. They have lovely handcrafted cocktails to choose from - some classic cocktails and some signature concoctions Everything tasted and looked great. The pecan chicken was more sweet than I expected, but still good. All of the sides were great. The cocktails looked great and tasted good. I did order one cocktail that gave ingredients but mentioned a "thick pink juice" that is made in-house, and upon my initial taste I soon discovered they meant beet juice. It wasn't bad, just unexpected and a little overpowering Our sever was good. Our orders came out quickly and without any issues. We did have to wait a while for top-offs on water. Also, as I was taking photos of the food our server was behind me and I apologized and they said "phone eats first," and I hope that was only meant in jest and not throwing shade lol Some tips: These plates aren't the most shareable, but if in a group I would consider ordering a variety of entrees and sides and trying each others meals If you're feeling something sweet after your meal, consider walking next door to Milk + Sugar. They're one of my favorite West Houston ice cream parlors Cheers!!

Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in quite some time. We had an 8:00 PM reservation but weren't seated until around 8:30 PM. While delays happen and I was willing to overlook that, the experience only went downhill from there. We ordered Palomas to kick off our Friday night. The drinks took quite a while to arrive, and when they did, they were noticeably watered down. I politely mentioned it to our server, who quickly took them back and brought replacements, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the second round was nearly identical to the first. When I brought it up again, instead of acknowledging the feedback, the server responded by saying it was "just not a sugary drink." That completely missed the point. I wasn't expecting a sweet cocktail--I was pointing out that the drinks tasted diluted and poorly made. What bothered me most wasn't the drinks themselves, but how the feedback was handled. I wasn't looking for free drinks or trying to be difficult. I was simply offering honest feedback, and it felt like my opinion was being dismissed rather than heard. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. We ordered several dishes to get a good sense of the menu, and most were overwhelmingly salty. The salt overpowered any other flavors to the point that we couldn't finish some of the dishes. The sushi was the best thing we had, but even that lacked the presentation and quality I would expect at this price point. To be fair, the manager did remove the drinks from our bill as a courtesy, and I appreciate that gesture. However, by that point the damage had already been done. A resolution is only effective when guests feel heard and respected throughout the process. Instead, I felt like I had to defend my opinion and justify my feedback before anyone took it seriously. At the end of the day, a restaurant can be trendy, crowded, and beautifully designed, but none of that matters if the food and service don't deliver. Balboa Surf Club has the atmosphere and location, but in my experience it falls short where it matters most. Overall, I'm glad I finally tried it because I had always been curious, but now I know I won't be back and cannot recommend it. If you're looking for a similar concept, I'd recommend Hudson House. The atmosphere is comparable, but the drinks are consistently well-made, the food is much better, and the service has always been far superior.

The decor was a combo of old money Houston and mid-century mod. Lots of plants, lots of wood. Very dim. Service was slow but attentive and friendly. There are no mocktails on the drink menu, but they have a few on deck. They can also custom make you one. My husband ordered a Paloma and stated that it was very strong. For an app, we got the coconut shrimp. 10/10 -- well fried, coconut forward. Fun and easy bites. We also got the salmon roll and thought it was refreshing. Light umami, sauce was not needed. For our mains, we got the cheeseburger and redfish. My husband does not love seafood, but he devoured the redfish. It was flaky, buttery, with lots of crab. The burger was ok -- it reminded me of an elevated Big Mac. It was not a bad burger, but it wasn't that melty, gooey, buttery number some of us love. Get the lemon meringue. She is zesty, she is thick, she is tall. My husband, toddler, and I shared it and were stuffed. Balboa is a place I would take someone who likes seafood and good vibes.

A Solid Olive Garden-Like Experience…read more Not a bad experience overall, but definitely not the cozy steakhouse vibe it was described as. The menu leaned heavily toward sandwiches, with a reasonable selection of salads and a few steak options thrown in. The cocktails, unfortunately, were flat-out gross--easily the low point of the meal. That said, not everything missed. The chicken fingers with fries and mac & cheese were genuinely good--crispy, satisfying, and probably the highlight. But the rest of the sides didn't hold up. The coleslaw tasted like it came straight out of a can, and the roasted artichokes were overwhelmed with a liquid smoke flavor that made them completely inedible. Service was another issue. One waitress initially took our order, but about ten minutes later, a second waitress came over to let us know she couldn't read the first one's handwriting and asked us to repeat everything. Drinks arrived just a couple of minutes before the food, which felt poorly timed. The final straw was when we asked to box up leftovers. The waitress stacked all of our plates--about six of them--on top of the food we wanted to take home and carried everything to the back. That completely killed any interest in keeping the leftovers. In the end, it felt more like a casual chain dining experience than the elevated, cozy steakhouse we expected.
