My friend got the 2 pancakes, 1 bacon, 1 egg, 1 link value meal and liked it as well. We both got bottomless coffee. Overall, it's a good diner with great service all at not a bad price point. Went to uncle Bill's for a quick bite to eat. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. The chicken was tender and crispy and well seasoned. It was very good. The white gravy was also well seasoned. My wife ordered the county fried steak but received a chicken fried chicken another steak was brought out but after we had finished our meal. We both thought the chicken was better than the steak. Our waitress was very good as she caught the mistake on my wife's meal on the way to our table. Uncle Bills is not the fanciest place in town but when fall comes around and you are craving all things pumpkin you MUST go and get the pumpkin pancakes! They are the best, ever! I go every year for my birthday. We're visiting from Arizona and thought Uncle Bill's looked like a good place for a little Sunday brunch today. What we found was a warm and inviting restaurant diner experience where we were quickly seated and attended to by our wonderful server. We were all but ignored and after walking back up to get sime help they couldn't find out server. 15 minutes wasted and all but dismissed on our way out What happened to this once great place? Ok, here's the thing.... Uncle Bill's is good if you've been going there for years, if it's been your go-to place for after a night of drinking, and/or if you have fond memories of going there when you were younger. Nostalgia. When you get in there and look around, I mean really look around, you will see it as it is - dingy, dated, dusty, with torn seats, extremely old, gross carpet, and a 'good diner feel' from it's hay-day. The reviews of the service are all over the board because it really does depend on which crew you get. Sometimes you go in and service is perfect, other times you'll go in and they'll forget your order, they won't check back on your table after you get your food, and you'll have to wait for drink refills. It all depends on the shift. The food is ok. Just ok. Again, if you've been going there since you were 10 then yes, I agree, you probably think the food is so awesome. But, as with everything else, it depends on the crew you get, how lucky or not you are with that time's cooks and servers. Don't expect but don't be surprised if your eggs are over done, if your sausage is cold, your order came with onions even though you specifically ordered it without or you received your steak well done when you as asked for it medium rare. All things that are forgiven if you've been going there every week for the past 5 years. I think with their change in hours from 24hrs to a very limited time of being open things are really sad. That was one of the good things about UB's, you could go there any time. And it's aggravating because a lot of their signs (and even the placemats/menus they've had for years and years) state they are open 24hrs. At least use reprinted placemats/menus that have the correct hours on it. There's no reason to still have that on your placemats/menus unless you ordered 650,000 placemat/menus back in 2017 and have been going through the stack since then. Take it as you will. Good, bad, you'll have to decide for yourself. But when you get there on sunday morning and wait over a half hour for a table have a look around when you're finally seated. You'll see a LOT of "we've been coming here for years" blinders. But I'm just one reviewer. Let me know what you think if you visit. read more

The atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. The waitress was super friendly and so very honest and helpful. Her suggestions, that we took, made the meal so great. We normally don't order pork chops out. But my wife ordered the grilled chop and I ordered the breaded chop, two per order and we shared. Both ways we amazing and the "side" of mixed steamed vegetable ( carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli) were served on a small platter. Uncle Bill's holds true to its iconic diner food and service. The Ballwin location accommodated no worries to our gathering of 12 ladies for brunch/lunch. Service was fast, and efficient. Food is typical diner choices, but satisfying and hearty. Most of our group ordered breakfast and pancakes were what many of us were there for. Not disappointed with that choice. Our server was not rattled by special requests. Plenty of seats so no waiting on getting to a table. Although only one choice, there was even a gluten free waffle if need be. Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was busy, about a 20 minute wait for 4 people. This place seems like your average breakfast diner. The service was amazing, super friendly. You can tell they have a really good team environment when it comes to service. Someone was always coming by to check on us every few minutes. They refilled our coffee several times. Unfortunately, the food was not that great. - Western omelette (3/5): this was a pretty large portion. Lots of veggies which I liked. The omelette was a bit bland though. Our food was not prepared properly. The bacon was refried and extremely hard. My friend explained to the waitress that she had the entree before and it wasn't like what was in front of her. The waitress made a rude comment and took the food. I told the waitress my food was cold and the bacon was too hard to eat. The food tasted greasy and cold. The waitress snapped asking me did I want something else. I ordered something else and it wasn't any better. I ate maybe two small sections of eggs and decided I wasn't going to force feed myself. That food was tasteless. I took the food with me. From the moment our conversation about the food the waitress became belligerent. While waiting for a table the cashier was pleasant. When I walked to the counter the cashier immediately asked me did I leave a tip. Rude, rude, and rude! I told the cashier the waitress earns a tip. The woman behind me said she agreed with me. Where do I start? As the photos show, Uncle Bill's does not seem to be sure when they open, or close. I came to this location, probably 40 years ago the first time. I remember it as bright, cheerful, friendly, and with cheap delicious food. Not so much anymore. Maybe I am not with the times, but $19 for breakfast. Seems like a lot of money to me. I ordered bacon and eggs. They came with hashbrowns and pancakes. The pancakes were enormous, thick, and not cooked completely. The bacon was three long, thick slices of tasteless, completely dried out, obviously pre-cooked meat. The hashbrowns were adequate, but a little greasy . The eggs must have come from pygmy chickens; they were half the size of the ones I get from the grocery store I was sitting in a booth near the kitchen, so I could hear the staff was having a wonderful time, laughing and giggling. Unfortunately, my waitress seemed to forget where I was, and I had to get more coffee, water, and napkins by myself. Halfway through this debacle, I found myself yearning for a McDonald's big breakfast. How sad is that? read more

I'd been waiting to go to UB's for quite a while. I had only been to the Kingshighway location some years ago and just remembered that the food was really good. Finally, we went, and they did not disappoint. They need to update their hours online because they close at 3pm on Sunday, not 10pm and not 24 hours. We arrived about 2pm and they still had a nice crowd and people coming in. The prices were descent but of course they've gone up from what I remember. We were seated promptly, and the food came out quickly. It's your typical diner in the way that it could've been a little cleaner, but the serving staff who all pitched in were nice. I was really surprised at how hot and fresh everything was in the little amount of time we waited for the entrees. The cheese sticks were delicious, and I ordered the chicken and waffles. While the waffle was a bit on the cakey side for me and not my type, the fried chicken was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy in the inside. The mash was good and the coleslaw was sweet and creamy, even the little dinner roll was good. I will definitely be going back. read more

If you come here, please don't expect chicken-fil-a ranked service. You come in, someone gets your drinks then your waitress comes over gets your food, food comes out, then she will check on you one more time before dropping the bill off and you will not see them again since you pay at the counter. If you are expecting more than that, you are setting them up for failure. Come here for the FOOD not for the service. I got the supreme 2x2x2x2, pancakes, hashbrowns, eggs, sausage, and bacon. The meats were cooked perfectly, my eggs, sunny side up, were the perfect consistency and my hashbrowns were crispy and buttery and thick, SO GOOD. My fiancé prefers his hashbrowns thinner cut, so he wasn't thrilled by the thick cut but I thought they were perfect. Now the real star of the show, the pancakes, wow wow wow I loved these they were soft and thick, and absorbed all of the syrup 10/10 no notes. I haven't been to an Uncle Bill's restaurant since high school or maybe college. It's been a minute. Walking in brought back memories of days gone by. As we sat down and looked down, the menu looked the same as I remembered; a paper placemat. As you begin reading the menu you quickly realize this is going to take a while. It is a HUGE menu. To go along with the huge menu, you receive huge portions. My wife and I shared blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, and hash browns. It was plenty of food for us. The food was cooked just how you'd expect. Great pancakes (it's in the name). The server was very attentive to our needs and was busy with several other tables as well. My only issue was the carpet looked really dirty/greasy and the restroom floor was sticky. A nice decor update would go a long way here in this iconic St. Louis restaurant. read more
