The food is made in front of you, the tables are always clean and the coffee is amazing! Always look on the board in back to check out the daily specials, and up to 10 different homemade pies ( there are sugar free options too!) We usually order the smoked pork chop with hash browns and eggs. The place is usually open 24 hours a day, so anyone looking for a non- Dennys or IHOP option after a night of partying, go there! For a greasy spoon, 24 hour, it's exactly what you want: one server who is also the cook, a game playing in the background, mostly empty seating area, and the diners there look like regulars. The service is "ignore until they flag you down." Food is alright, better than average for diners in the area with prices that are very reasonable. I prefer a burger as the meat of a slinger. They use sausage patties. The chili is perfect and the server/chef sent out over medium and easy eggs cooked to perfection. The ice tea is STRONG. Had to ask for a refill. Again, you'll get ignored. I tried some of the filling of the pie--it was just average. This place is clearly a mainstay for South County. I think it's worth coming at least once, but I have to say: I got some looks. I usually stop in after my dentist appointment. It has become the routine every 6 months. It's a hole in the wall old school diner. There's approx. 9 tables with 4 seats to each, and a bar area to sit. It is cash only. Furnitures are worn, dishes are chipped, locals in and out greeted on a first name basis. Interesting conversations can be heard. It's were you go when you are looking for a no fuss hot off the grill dining. The ladies are very nice & friendly here. Just the typical taste of breakfast items, you get a bang for your bucks. Stay away from the steak, I knew better than to order this at a diner. Give them credit, everything in my bacon, egg, hash browns, English muffin, and pancake hit the table hot and very close to perfectly done! That isn't so easy to do. Well, this was an interesting and unexpected experience! I am not in Arnold very often. I was looking for a place to eat. Boom! There was Dave's diner. I pulled into the parking lot and noticed the place looked a little forlorn and rundown. It is not in a very dynamic shopping area. And then there was the sign on the door warning me that they only take cash. No debit. No credit card. Well OK. I'm good with that. After going inside, I realize that the interior of the establishment agreed with the exterior! Kind of sad and needing some loving care. But then I grabbed the menu. Dave's is open 24 hours a day and you can get breakfast anytime you want it. It was about 5 PM and that got my attention. Because who doesn't want breakfast? So I ordered a breakfast bowl which contained eggs, which I ordered scrambled along with chunks of potatoes and all of the typical breakfast bowl ingredients. And then I ordered it covered with chili and cheese. Why? Because I could. And I have to say it was delicious. I loved it and will do it again if I'm ever back in Arnold. But next time I will try it covered with gravy because I also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy. Oh my! That was good gravy! So give Dave a try. Show him some love and maybe he can show some love to his building. But even if he can't go there for your own sake. It had an interesting menu and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Do NOT judge this place by its appearance. It is the perfect dive diner. The food is amazing. I am in love with their homemade corned beef hash. It is almost as good as my brothers, and he makes the best I have ever had. The pancake is definitely far superior to any other I have gotten in a resturant. Staff is friendly and knows their regulars and makes new customers feel just as welcome. Personally, I think the best diners have to look a little sketch to make the food taste right. I was in between work appointments nearby and needed to grab a late lunch. It was around 2 and pretty empty when I arrived. There were a couple of occupied tables with older men, regulars, while I was there. One even came in and the waitress got his drink without even asking. It feels like a place they really would get to know you if you stopped in often. But I still got great service even though I had never been in before and carried in my laptop with me. I ordered my standby at a diner. A grilled cheese and shredded hash browns. Exactly what I expected. I was told the hash browns and the fries (crinkle style) where hand peeled and cut. And that the waitresses mom and sister made the soup and cake. Nice to know they do things from scratch. The staff was friendly and even though they aren't owners, they shared that many of the people there were related...and the result was it felt like they really took pride in the place. It looks like a strip mall hole in the wall from the outside. But don't let that fool you. If you don't like dive diners then skip it. But if you do, I'm guessing the desserts and shakes are amazing. Last time I went to the high ridge location, we waited an hour before being asked for our order and then they were out of so much. Went to the fenton location, was told they were out of mashed potatoes because apparently they burned the first batch and the waitress told us she just didn't feel like making more. So I ordered the home fries and they went even fully cooked. My eggs were undercooked and my mom's were over cooked. Apparently the ability to cook or reheat items are no longer a requirement to work at Dave's. Shitty service, shitty servers, shitty food. Great little breakfast diner. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Good menu typical of a diner with VERY reasonable prices. I came for breakfast and had the chicken fried steak with two eggs over easy, toast and hash browns. They also have home fries if you prefer. Interestingly they chop all the potatoes fresh each morning. I asked mine to be extra crispy and they were just fabulous. The steak had a hearty country gravy that tasted divine. Everything was cooked perfectly and the service was prompt and with a smile. I'd eat here everyday if I lived close. The only reason I gave it four stars is that I just needs to be spruced up a little bit. Maybe a coat of paint, fix some chairs, new decor on the walls etc etc. really good food though. read more

My husband loves diners, and we have passed this place dozens of times on the way to see a movie at Ronnies. So we decided to eat here before a movie. We actually have gone here twice now and have both enjoyed it both times. Being the evening, the place was pretty quiet both times we went with only a couple of customers. I suspect the get a bigger morning / daytime crowd, but don't know that for sure. Both times, there was only one person working who acted as the hostess, server, cook who was very friendly and pleasant. She also was a very hard worker - even though the restaurant was not busy and was pretty quiet - she never stopped working. She was cleaning or arranging or doing something the entire time. She even went out front to sweep and I saw her picking stuff up in the parking lot. The food was good quality for diner food. This most recent time, I had breakfast food with a pancake on the side, and the pancake was one of the best pancakes I had had in a long time. My partner had a hamburger and liked it as well. If you are looking for great, cheap food and don't mind, the true old-fashioned diner experience, this is the place for you. My favorite item is their tamale covered in chili (OT Hodges I'm told). From BLT, to biscuits to burgers, everything I've had has been so yummy and I have probably gone 4 times in the last 2 months because it is convenient, cheap and tasty. Exception- I will not get their coffee again- because the only creamer they have is a powder they mix with water and put on the table. No thanks. It tasted like water. Still, coffee or not, I will be back. Everything else has been delicious!! Be prepared to make new friends. My wife and I decided to stop in after seeing a late movie at the Keller theatre. We walked in and sat right at the counter. We were greeted immediately by the only hostess/waitress/cook/dishwasher in the building. A very nice, straight to the point lady who was great from the start. The place was packed at midnight on a Saturday and the lone employee was killing it! She balanced taking orders, cooking food, and checking people out flawlessly. I ordered the double cheeseburger with LTP and grilled onion. I also ordered fries and fried potato chips. Everything was delicious! Cooked perfectly, timely, and my coffee cup was never empty. After we finished our meals we paid and left, very impressed and very pleased.
