After researching breakfast places I haven't been to, I decided this would be a good place to check out. I was surprised to see it tucked away in the strip and had it not been for the sign, I def would have missed it. When I first walked in, I was greeted immediately and shown to a table. I happened to be one of five people there (2 couples), so it's nice to know there are other early risers like myself. Prior to coming, I looked at the menu online so I'd have an idea of what I wanted once I went. I stuck with water and got the scrambled combo with cheddar, spinach, and green peppers. It also comes with potatoes and your choice of toast, a biscuit, or an English muffin. I got the sourdough toast. One of the plus sides to being an early riser is that the places you go aren't packed, which means you'll get your food quicker. Mine came out in record timing (then again it helps when you're 1 of 5 people there, 4 of which already have their food). The first couple bites were meh. Once I sprinkled salt and pepper, it was like the eggs and potatoes came to life! The toast was as I expected (good), then again, I have yet to taste sourdough that wasn't good. Overall, my server was kind and attentive. The vibe of the restaurant was as quiet and cozy, then then again, it could have been the fact that his was 8:15 am. Came here for a baby shower -- room was organized and seating and plates were all presented nicely. I think they needed more than one waitress taking food orders and navigating it all. The wait for food to come out was very inconsistent and everyone was eating at different times. The flavor of the sandwich I ordered (turkey) was great and they also toasted it for me! Would like to come back and try something else here for a different experience soon. read more

The Hearth Room Cafe is a charming, quaint cafe tucked away in Lamp and Lantern Village. From the outside it does not appear spacious, but once inside it is a substantial space and has meeting rooms that can accommodate a large group. It has an old fashion feel and even the music quietly playing sounds like it is from the early to mid 1900's. The "Hearth" is the center piece of the room bringing all the decor together. Our food was okay. However, the server was the most curt and rude individual that I've encountered in a restaurant. We started off by asking the her if they had mozerella cheese for the omelettes. She responded with a firm, "we don't have that". I asked her what cheeses they do have available. After a sigh, she rattled off my options. Someone else in the party asked for their dressing on the side, to which responded, "dressings always come on the side." How would anyone know that??!! Next, we wanted to know if the artichoke dip on the flatbread had chicken broth in it, since someone in our party was a vegetarian. Her response: " I don't think so".... to which I responded, "could you find out?" She literally threw down the menus, sighed and went into the kitchen to ask. She can back from the kitchen highly agitated and said, "no". She told us at one point in her service that she was doing the dishes. The server was obviously multi-tasking and stressed...I get it with the lack of staffing. However, you should NOT be taking out your aggression and frustration out on your patrons. read more

My husband took a vacation day, so we decided to go out for breakfast. Hearth Room Cafe isn't far from us at all, but we had never been there. We chose to eat outside in the courtyard area and it was really nice out there. Our server was great! There was only one other couple seated outside and she was in and out often to fill our water glasses and coffee cups and bring our food. The food was good and served hot - I'm not a fan of eggs that aren't hot enough. The menu is large and has many different options. We looked at the lunch menu and it looked good as well. I've lived in this area off and on many years and I'm glad I tried this restaurant. The restaurant is in between two parking lots. I ordered the Classic Combo for breakfast, two scrambled eggs, ham, and wheat toast. It comes with breakfast potatoes. When the plate arrived at my table it all looked delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly, which for me means they weren't dried out from overcooking or a little runny from undercooking. The ham was 2 thin slices and lacking in taste that I expect. I ordered my wheat toast dry to minimize calories before using the blackberry jelly. The star of the dish were the breakfast potatoes. Perfect seasoning and perfect crispness. Way to go! Everything on my plate was warm or hot when it arrived so the kitchen was executing well. My server was excellent throughout my meal. The restaurant decor is plain jane but I have a new breakfast and lunch spot to rely on. read more

I consider this a hidden gem. The ambience is great, with a small divider and huge fireplace. The food is great quality and inexpensive! I had scrambled eggs with mushrooms and cheese, potatoes, and a biscuit for $12. My mom got an omelette and biscuit for $13. Delicious meal for under $30! We went for a birthday lunch for one of our members and there were 9 of us. The server was very curt and abrupt throughout our time there! When we told her we needed more silverware for everyone, when we had menu questions etc, she acted like it was too much trouble to answer us. She did not refill drink glasses or ask if we needed anything else. When she brought the silverware she just plopped it on the table. I asked if the peppers could be left out of the Asian salad and she said we make it to order, so I said great I will order the Asian salad please leave the peppers out! She said ok, when my salad came it had more peppers than anything else besides the lettuce!! She whacked into one of our ladies arm when she brought the check for a friend who had to leave early. Didn't say sorry or excuse me, said nothing! The rest of us waited and waited for our checks! Then she said oh I thought I brought them already! We were all disgusted! I had my first visit to the Hearth Room recently with my mom and sister for brunch on a Saturday. The dining area is quite spacious with a main dining room, and two anchoring private rooms that I could see being great for small to medium size events. The focal point in the main dining room was the fireplace, which was pleasant on a rainy day. I had an egg scramble with potatoes, and a pancake with a mimosa. My mom had a yogurt parfait which looked amazing, and my sister had waffles. We all enjoyed our food and the prices were decent. Our service was also really friendly and efficient, although we did have to flag our waiter a couple of times. This restaurant is tucked inside of a upper level plaza at Lamp and Lantern in Town and Country so it's a bit hidden off of Clayton and Woodsmill, but it's definitely worth checking out when you want something different than the usual chain. read more

My wife and I came here with two of our friends for brunch on Labor Day and we were a bit underwhelmed. The waitress was friendly but the kitchen was slow to make our food which is understandable since they may have been short on staff for the crowd on a Monday holiday. My wife and I shared the Mexican Omlette, Strawberry Shortcake French Toast, and a Fruit and Yogurt Parfait. The Mexican Omlette was good but not any better than anywhere else and the other items were decent but much of the produce they use seemed to be mostly frozen or canned rather than fresh. Our friend got the Grilled Salmon Salad and she noticed the salmon was likely frozen prior to cooking rather than cooked fresh. The prices are decent and the ambiance is nice but the quality does not quite live up with it. I was even disappointed the tea selection was a typical brand (forget which one) rather than a nicer selection I expected for this place. In the future we will probably have brunch in town elsewhere such as The Shack which is amazing or at my mother's house instead. read more

I was in last weekend on a busy Sunday and my waitress Rylee was amazing and attentive. She recommended the French toast and it was just as she described it, mouth watering! Just the perfect amount of cinnamon and powdered sugar to compliment my mimosas! The eggs came out over medium as ordered and the bacon was exceptionally crispy but not burnt. By all appearances (menu, atmosphere and clientele), this is mostly a ladies luncheon establishment. I even noticed a number of tables of women playing cards near the back. :) I ordered the Bar-B-Q Chicken salad which was delicious (mixed greens, black beans, corn, tomato, bar-b-q chicken breast, cheddar and onion straws). This spot is a hidden gem in lamp and lantern village. Inexpensive yet absolutely delicious!! Breakfast and lunch served, 7 days a week! Opens at 7am which my grandparents love!! The staff across the board is friendly and the service is wonderful. The kids menu runs around 4 bucks for a full plate of delicious food, couldn't ask for a better price for my 4 year old. This is a cute place for breakfast. The menu is reasonably priced, and the food is tasty. I'm being nit-picky about the fifth star simply because the waitress poured coffee like she had to pay for it with her own blood, and to say that it's diner coffee at best would be the nicest thing I could say about it. I came here for lunch today with some coworkers and was not impressed. This is clearly a neighborhood restaurant where everyone knows each other. I arrived in a party of 6. We waited a few minutes to be seated. We were seated in the back where there were tables and tables of women playing games such as bridge and dominos. None of the women were eating. I looked at my menu and nothing looked good. My coworker told me she loves chicken salad pie so I decided to try it. I ordered it was side of fruit. Another coworker ordered a burger. She asked if she could have her burger cooked medium and the waiter said they only cook burgers one way. Well that should have been a clue... Our food arrived and it didn't even look good. It was soft and salty. It reminded me of food they serve at nursing homes. Yuck! I also hate that their menu doesn't have the correct prices. The menu said my meal was $7.99, but I was charge $8.50. Wasn't even able to be seated. My wife and I wanted to try something new before a doctors appointment nearby, so we though we would try out Hearth Room Cafe. When we went by around 8:45am this morning (a Wednesday), we walked past the restaurant windows and there was not a single customer inside. Not completely unsurprising considering the day, but a little weird. We opened the very creaky front door and there was no one at the front counter. We could hear a loud man's voice nearby chastising an employee (sounded like an employer or boss, not a customer based on what was said), so we stood there for about 3-4 minutes before we started discussing if we should start considering other options. Still, no one came out, so we just left. If no one is there to greet you, I would recommend just going to far more consistent local restaurants nearby, such as Shack. At least they have friendly faces there to greet you every time. read more

Sunday morning breakfast is a ritual with Ms T and me. I would prefer a Mexican breakfast but since not many such places are available close-by, I make a concession to the Ms and we try other things. After a while they are pretty much all the same and sort of blur together. Recently we tried Hearth Room. It was a very nice experience. There was really nothing extremely remarkable or different about the food, but our omelets were certainly very good, made to order. The sausage was excellent, with just the right amount of sage. They have a pretty complete breakfast menu, but they will probably make you anything you want within reason. What sets the place apart is the rest of the experience. The place is not tiny, but has a warm, cozy feel. We were there on a cold morning and the fireplace was burning. The service was extremely friendly and the waitress accommodated some non-standard requests without hesitation. You will not go wrong here. It has a more personal atmosphere than the food factory breakfast places (Bob Evans, IHOP, Original Pancake House and even First Watch) can't match. We will be back. read more
