This type of food is getting harder and harder to find in the Nashville area. Slaw, beans, pickles and hush puppies are served with every meal. Most diners choose between a large portion of catfish or chicken but the menu holds other offerings not found elsewhere, like gator tail. There's a large private parking lot. After hearing so many people recommend Uncle Buds, my family and I finally decided to try it this past week. Sadly, the experience did not meet our expectations. We were seated quickly, and our drinks and appetizers arrived without much delay. However, the wait for our meals was surprisingly long considering we only ordered 3-piece catfish dinners rather than the unlimited option. When the food finally arrived, our server dropped it off and never checked back in with us for the rest of the meal. We eventually had to look around several times just to get the servers attention when we were ready to leave. The food itself was also disappointing. The catfish portions were very small and fried much too hard. The fries tasted like frozen, store-bought fries, and the hush puppies were so hard they were difficult to eat. While the restaurant has a casual country-style atmosphere, the quality of the food and service simply did not justify all the recommendations we had heard. Uncle Bud's definitely set the tone for our Nashville trip!!! We landed at the airport, picked up our rental, and drove a few minutes to this spot we found on Yelp (thanks Yelp!). We had no idea what we were in for. Immediately and throughout our visit, we were blessed with their southern hospitality. The staff was so sweet, polite, and kind, especially our server Wendi. The menu is small, but the food is mighty! Complementary side dishes include white beans, coleslaw, and hush puppies. Every Thursday they have all you can eat fried catfish, which my boyfriend ordered. I ordered the 2 piece fried chicken and catfish combo. The catfish was delicious and the chicken was perfect and tender, even after I took it home. I usually stay away from breast meat because it's so dry and hard for me to eat, but not this time! I was pleasantly surprised. Topped off our meal with peach cobbler and ice cream. Ohhhh that peach cobbler. My mouth is drooling just thinking about it. I first discovered this place by ordering some catfish for my wife through Grubhub. I tried her plate and enjoyed the catfish, which I'm not usually a fan of. The next day, I ordered from here again but I got a shrimp plate. It was very good. Today, I decided to dine in for some all-you-can-eat fried chicken Sunday and I loved it! I found out that you can swap between fried chicken or chicken strips for the same price. I tried one chicken strip at the end and next time, that will be part of my plate as well. The fixings are all you can eat regardless of what you order. They have hush puppies, which are so big might as well call them hush dogs, white beans; cole slaw; and fries. Additionally, my unlimited chicken order included one biscuit, which was buttery and fluffy. I ordered two more at .75 cents each. Our server, McKenzie was very welcoming, explained things upon request, and offered our drinks to go after our meal. My husband and I stopped by Uncle Bud's during a trip to Nashville for lunch. It was a Saturday in July and we were seated within 10 minutes and everyone there was very friendly while checking in. Our meals were absolutely delicious! I had the Fish Hooks meal that consisted of 1/2 lb of catfish bite size pieces. My husband had the Bayou platter of frog legs, clam strips, catfish filets, and gator bites. After we first sat down, and our drink order was taken, they brought out all the fixins of all-you-can-eat white beans, coleslaw, sweet onions, dill pickle spears and hushpuppies. Oh my my, we almost got too full on the fixins before our meats came out. The coleslaw was mayonnaise based and my husband and I agreed it was the absolute best we've ever had. The hush puppies and white beans were cooked perfectly. Our server was very attentive to checking on our table but not overbearing. Our glasses of sweet and unsweetened tea stayed full and so did our fixins. We were sad to hear that this was the last Uncle Buds left but we are so glad this one is thriving. I had the two piece whole catfish dinner, and my husband had the four piece filet dinner. Both came with what I would call steak fries. With our meals came never-ending "fixings"--white beans, coleslaw, onion slices, pickles, and the best hush puppies we've had in a long time. My husband was not a huge fan of the beans, but that was only because he likes his beans cooked quite a bit and these were a little Al dente. Our very friendly and efficient waitress Danette arrived with a smile and dishes of beans, pickles, onions, hush puppies and coke slaw. It's their 'all the fixings' offering at every table. Sherry had catfish, a Fanta orange and a Moon Pie for dessert. I had (and no judging!) fried chicken livers. Both arrived hot and cooked very well. The fish pieces were a bit small so they gave Sherry an extra piece. My chicken livers were more than enough. Our server was very friendly and took our order quickly. Catfish fillets are fairly easy to find, but left on the bone (more flavor) is nearly impossible. These were delish. Arrived at Nashville and seeking dinner. Not sure why but I was attracted to this place and what a place!!! Turned out it was started by a WW2 veteran; and is oozing with personality! Everyone was so nice and they made me feel right at home. I love the funny stuff all around the place. I got the catfish and shrimp combo with a side of gumbo. The gumbo was enough for a meal itself!
