We ordered a sando combo which was crispy with the most delicious, crunchy French fries. We also ordered 6 wings with a side of slaw and furikake rice. The wings were crispy but not too crispy that it scratches the inside of your mouth. Will be back when we have a craving for KFC! read more

Uncle Chicken is located in the same mall as a shave ice place which opens at 12pm.  I tried the 6 piece wings plain and fried zucchini.  The fried zucchini was in the shape of french fries.  Batter was crunchy and the batter to zucchini ratio was about even.  I was tasting mostly fried batter with a light zucchini flavor.  I'd prefer bigger pieces of zucchini so you get more zucchini flavor. Fried chicken wings had a crunchy batter with tender moist chicken.  Flavor was of chicken and fried batter with maybe a small amount of msg or salt.  Pretty good wings.  My favorite wings are at BHC and Golden Chopsticks. Uncle Chicken is the new Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) business that replaced a local chain in a suite at the Scripps Ranch Marketplace. They are currently in a soft opening phase, but I am unsure for how much longer. The inside had a seating capacity for around 30 customers. Parking was no issue at all in this vast shopping plaza. Menu screens hung above and to the right of the service counter that also had menu sheets available next to the register. Wings and tenders were sold in various quantities a la carte or as combos in a box. Flavors ranged from plain to Pure Evil which had five red chile peppers listed next to it. I wonder if this business is related to Calvin's in La Jolla because the sauce names were almost identical. The list of sides was long with twenty different choices. A sando and a few noodle plates were also offered. Most KFC spots don't have a liquor license, but Uncle Chicken does. Soju, beer, and wine were sold here in addition to soft drinks. I chose a Tenders Box for my takeout order that contained three tenders, slaw, furikake rice, and french fries. Garlicky Soy was my pick for a sauce that had one green chile pepper on the heat scale. The food was packaged inside a cardboard box that wasn't closed to allow the tenders and fries to remain crispy. The sauce was fairly sweet while the crust on the chicken was crunchy albeit a bit thick. I was impressed at how quickly the kitchen prepared my order. It took less than five minutes before the cashier handed me a plastic bag with the box of food. read more

It appears that I was the only customer. There was a banner on the outside that said "Soft Opening". I decided to give it a try. The shop was nice and appeared clean. I don't remember the previous incarnation. Please get more supplies so that coleslaw doesn't get over the wings. I drove less than 15 minutes away and it made my wings very soggy and inedible. I was underwhelmed by the few bites of the chicken that I had. The batter and seasoning were not good just the former Korean chicken place. More than $20 for ten wings is a bit pricey. I was craving for some Korean fried chicken so i decided to order take out from this new place. It's been under new management several times and wanted to see if it's better than the last place. I just ordered some soy garlic wings and it was good. It was fried perfectly and was tasty. I felt it was sweeter than I had liked but it did satisfy my craving. I was intrigued by the chicken sando window sign. The woman working offered samples of the different sauce offerings they had. Out of the favors I preferred the Savory Red. My Chicken Sando in Savory Red also came with seasoned fries was very good. I also liked the quirky vibe of the decor and music. I saw alcohol in a display fridge. Soft opening. Ordered to go...Chicken and fries appear to be air fried which is nice. Chicken has a nice crisp, seasond well. Fries, a little saltier than I'd like but with the sauce and slaw, it pairs well. Over heard a customer asked if the chicken and fries are gluten free, the staff said yes. (Please verify yourself). Rice with Furikake is good, can taste the sesame and aroma tells you it's quality season, at least for me. Didn't like that they didn't put a lid on the slaw container, the soy garlic sauce container was sitting in it. The Soy garlic sauce has a sweetness to it, hint of soy and garlic. A little goes a long way Soda is a can, not fountain drink. Nothing wrong with it. It's more for people's info and expectations. I'd come again to try their sando and other things the have on the menu for sure. It's nice to have more options in the area. read more

I stopped by Uncle Chicken recently after hearing a few good things, and I'm glad I finally made the trip. It's a cozy, clean little spot with a friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff--right from the start, it felt like a place that takes pride in both their food and service. Now, onto the star of the show: the wings. I ordered 4, and to my surprise, they gave me 6--always a great way to win someone over. The wings were incredibly crispy on the outside, with a satisfying crunch that didn't feel greasy or heavy. Inside, they were juicy and tender, with every bite packed with that rich, deep umami flavour that's so signature to Korean fried chicken. It's clear they know what they're doing in the kitchen. That said, while the wings were definitely delicious, they didn't quite have that wow factor that would push the experience into 5-star territory for me. I expected the food to taste the way it did for the price I paid--solid, high-quality, but not particularly memorable or unique. There wasn't that one standout element that made me think, "I've never had anything like this before." Still, the food hit the spot, and it was cooked really well. The portion sizes are a little on the smaller side, especially compared to some other wing places, but they're still satisfying. For reference, the wings are about the same size as what you'd get at Wingstop. But where Uncle Chicken stands out is in the variety. Formerly Padadak and Spicy Chicken & Tomato, this location is making a third attempt to serve tasty Korean fried chicken. I think the placement, along the west end of the Vons shopping center along Scripps Poway Parkway, may disadvantage this place, which serves up really tasty items that's well-prepared/packaged for takeout. Parking is easy and plentiful, and the service is very friendly. We hope this place has better foot traffic going forward, and local businesses like this deserve to succeed. read more

Uncle Chicken has the best fried chicken in the area. Their wings are crispy and the flavors are perfect. If you get a meal, they give you a ton of fries. I forgot to take a picture, but it was plenty. We got a meal and wings only which was plenty. It was also a Friday so it was buy one get one beer free! They have 2 sizes. A normal pint and a double that were both buy one get one. The server was so nice he delivered the food and beer to us and kept checking up on us. When we ran low on beer he asked if we wanted another Bogo, but we were so full we couldn't. I am craving wings as I type this. Go support a local SD business. read more

A friend of mine has been raving about this place for weeks on end so when I finally had the chance, I got a takeout order with them to see what the hype is all about. Granted, I am a Korean fried chicken connoisseur and I've ran the gamut from mom and pop shops to trendy Korean brands. We got the family pack which includes tenders (devil garlic), wings (soy garlic), slaw, and we also tacked on fries and furikake rice. Everything was so fresh, so crispy, and immaculately sauced in a way that preserves the wonderful taste of the chicken. It's such a comfy spot inside and the couple working there are so sweet. The tender box came out in just a few minutes and I also got my own ketchup bottle which was pretty convenient! The tenders were juicy, fries were crispy, rice was just enough, and I really like their version of coleslaw! The sauce wasn't spicy at all though, so I'm definitely coming back to try their spiciest one. Saw the soft opening sign and decided to check it out. Got a 10 piece, half Savory Red, half Furikake (seaweed flakes and sesame seeds). The Savory Red was good, could probably use a bit more flavor, but I did appreciate the mild spiciness that was consistent throughout each bite. It could probably use a bit more flavor -- but that's not a knock against it, I'd definitely still get it again. But the Furikake totally blew me away. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. There was an umaminess that was reminiscent of miso soup and the flavor was excellent if a bit hard-to-describe to my non-Korean palate. I immediately fell in love and would totally recommend this flavor to anyone. Service was pretty fast too, I placed my order and it was ready in less than 3 minutes. read more

Was out in poway visiting the grandkids on an early Sunday evening. We had just completed doing recreational activities and they wanted Boba. Our daughter recommended a place at Scripps Ranch Marketplace. There we got our Boba and found a new to us Chicken Wing Restaurant, the latter is what is being reviewed. After arriving I found the parking spaces in this shopping center too small for my pickup, lengthwise nor wide enough to open the doors, so I found a space in front of the businesses where I could back the bed of my truck over the curb/sidewalk and place the side of my truck, as close as possible, parallel to a dividing median. For those with large vehicles you would know why. When we all egressed the vehicle we found ourselves in front of "Uncle Chicken". We all were hungry, intrigued and decided to try their wings. We were greeted immediately and were given recommendations due to our unfamiliarity with the menu, so we ordered, To Go, both the Party Combo and 10 wings, mixed with Plain, Furikake and Garlicky Soy wings. We found the wings to be a great change, delicious and did not have that gamey or off-putting flavor that I particularly dislike. The Wings and Tenders that were breaded was tender and flakey, the Furikake is "Wow", a new fave of ours along with the Garlicky Soy.. They bought out the place that was there before they both are good Uncle chicken is good, Don't get me wrong, but their pricing is way too high. I live right down the street. I never see any cars in that area and it's sad because I like them and their food is good. They need to come up with some specials to get people in there. Maybe a discounted day of the week or whatever it takes to get people there, but they need to advertise or something. The other place before they at least used to advertise to get people there, but this place does not and they're hurting because of it I really want them to make it because their food is really good but unless things change, I don't see it happening. I was in the area and decided to check out Uncle Chicken prior to going to a Padres game. Since it was my first time at the establishment/a restaurant like this overall, I asked the staff member who took my order for some recommendations based on what I was craving at that moment in time (something that will keep me full for a good portion of the evening). He recommended the Umami Sando combo (Satan's Kiss) flavor with french fries. The sandwich had a nice balance between being flavorful and having a bit of heat/spice that wasn't overwhelming. I do have a high spice tolerance, so my experience with the Satan's Kiss flavor may be different from yours! Small detail, but for this sandwich, they flipped the buns inside out (soft inner part of bread is on the outside) and they pressed it, enhancing the overall texture for me. The fries weren't over-seasoned which made it enjoyable. Overall, my experience at Uncle Chicken's was great and it is a spot I would highly recommend! read more

Are these reviews legit? Quantity is so small for the price. About 15 usd if you order three piece tenders? And the tenders aren't even that big. Looking at the entire menu, it's quite horrifying they charge so much for so little. I suppose most of the reviewers are super wealthy or something. Food is decent but not worth the value. Very tasty! I've been to Korea - but didn't eat fried chicken there, so I can't comment on whether "authentic" or not. I just know the "tenders" were very large (full size boneless chicken breast portions - not nuggets). I didn't try the wings or any sides. Will definitely go back.
