Meh experience here after hearing so much hype for the "best ramen in denver". It was a slushy snow day which was perfect for ramen. As it was an impromptu idea, we did not have reservations but we showed up right at 5pm and were seated immediately at the bar. Open kitchen experience so it was nice to watch the chefs preparing plates. We started with the eggplant bao which we liked. The bao was soft while the eggplant had a crispy exterior. Next up we got the oshizushi salmon in hopes of finding a closer location other than Temaki Den to enjoy the delicious bite. Temaki Den does it best. This is a close second that would satisfy the craving, to give it credit. My husband got the Jira ramen. It started out ok but then the arugula became overpowering. I got the Shio which was actually kinda spicy. It wasn't melting but it had a sharp spice. I wish there was some greenery in the bowl. The pork belly was a bit too fatty and had an abundance of bean sprouts which I don't like that much. I will say, I think I just ordered the wrong ramen. I'd have a hard time ordering anything different, though one of our friends had the Dan Dan noodles and they looked amazing! I also enjoyed the Cry Me a River cocktail. Decided to do an impromptu walk in on a Sunday night and had a great time! Checked in with the host and were seated in about 25-30 minutes at the bar which was awesome to get to watch some of the prep work being done! We started off with some drinks and ordered two appetizers: the Pork Belly Bao Buns and the Sashimi Plate. The pork belly in the bao was so flavorful and melt in your mouth perfect and the fresh veggies added the perfect chrunch in the fluffy bun. The sashimi plate was a nice addition as well, I enjoyed the tuna but the salmon let me down a bit as it was just lacking in the flavor I was looking for. For mains we ordered the Shio Ramen and the Dan Dan Noodles. The ramen broth was wonderfully light but still flavorful and the meats and egg were packed full of flavor as well. I would have loved another piece of the pork belly but because of the chicken addition, it evens out to a good portion size. Went there last night with the kiddos after an evening at the art museum. The weather had dipped and apparently that means Uncle is popping. 1.5 hour wait on a Tuesday night!! But... the team was kind, sweet, and sat us as quickly as they could. The service was amazing.. they were so sweet and welcoming to younger guests and have a great kids menu (highly recommend the avocado roll... my daughter devoured it). I have not visited the original Uncle, but this new location is much more convenient, so we decided to check it out. The restaurant is spacious and takes up the corner of the building, but the entrance is odd and obscure. The address is in very large letters, "95 SOUTH PENNSYLVANIA," but there is only a small ramen bowl and a tiny, "UNCLE," at the bottom left. These are on a glass wall to the left of the entrance. The door itself is completely unmarked. Once you negotiate a very cramped foyer and go through the second door into the restaurant, you find a bright and airy, contemporary space with huge windows, an open kitchen, a high ceiling, and blonde furniture. The space is L-shaped with counter seating in front of the kitchen and lots of tables. There's a bar to the right of the entrance, but it's just a workstation without seating. The menu includes sushi rolls, small plates, buns, and ramen. We started with the pork and cabbage dumplings which came in an elegant bowl, sitting in a pool of soy, chili oil, scallions, and cilantro. These were quite tasty with a bit of a kick. We each ordered the duck ramen as our main course on the recommendation of our charming and enthusiastic server. This has a chicken and pork-based shoyu broth with confit duck leg, arugula, corn, a soft-poached egg, Japanese seven spice togarashi (a classic spice blend with heat, citrus, and umami), scallions, and noodles, of course. The broth was very flavorful and the shichimi (togarashi) did the trick. The presentation was beautiful and the ingredients were fine. The soft-poached egg was perfect. Confit seems ubiquitous on menus these days, but it is a difficult, time-consuming process to handle correctly. I did not find the "confit" duck that great. It was OK, but definitely not as tender and flavorful as it could have been. My elderly friend had a hard time with the soup. The presentation was pretty authentic with a whole egg, very long strands of noodles, and large pieces of the duck. Even with a fork he had difficulty negotiating this. It's probably a general comment about ramen, but if you're not experienced with chopsticks, it can be difficult to eat. The staff was extremely friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. This was known as their top seller and most popular ramen. The broth was tasty and creamy but I honestly don't think I'm personally a fan of chicken in my ramen. The toppings were otherwise fairly simple, generally including bean sprouts / egg / scallions. I know they have other ramen flavors but I wasn't overly amazed by this one unfortunately!! She was friendly and attentive, giving suggestions and advice on the menu. I ordered the Lucky You cocktail at her recommendation. The drink was deliciou, refreshing and beautifully presented, but for $13 I'd have liked to receive more than half of a lowball glass full of cocktail, which once you remove the ice was probably just 3 ounces of actual drink, including mixer. My dining partners had beers which they enjoyed. We ordered the eggplant bao and asked if the miso mayo could be put on the side as a member of our party does not care for mayo and were told no. I respect a restaurant declining modifications to a certain degree, but I find this particular type of small request refusal to be asinine and pretentious. It's not like we were asking for it to be substituted with ketchup or something, simply for it to be on the side. We ordered it anyway, and although tasty it was drowning in the sauce. The ramen dishes were the star of the show, particularly the vegetarian Khao Soi Ramen. Do not miss this! The ramen was very lack luster in flavor and does not reflect the price at all. The broth was ok but there wasn't any deep flavors to note, the noodles had a thicker texture closer to what I like what I think there was some type of bitter aftertaste that wasn't pleasant but I'm not sure if it was the noodles tbh. The pork belly looked great but again the flavor didn't exceed being just ok at best. All in all it's a cool place but I can't recommend the ramen. Just moved to the area and it was cooold out. What better to have than ramen? We were out on a Friday night so we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a seat, which was not a bad wait. A little sweet, there was vanilla in it among other flavors, whiskey I think.
