I would always want to sleep over at my grandparents as my grandpa would walk to uncle Joe's donuts every morning to pick up a round sugar donut for me! Their original location decades ago was down the street when it was next door to "Super Shops Racing" for muscle cars (man I am dating myself...but as a muscle car fan I do remember this as a great San Gabriel valley hangout). Previously Wonder Donuts... Uncle Joe's Donuts took over Wonder Donuts as almost a takeover of sorts. The owner of Uncle Joe's happened to be related to the owner of Wonder Donuts... how the name came to be, I'm not sure. At this point, it's obvious that I've been going here for years... so, to quantify my experience here, I've been going to this donut spot for...18 years. Yikes, right? The donuts are always tasty, the place is popular, and the clientele seems plentiful... especially with the additions of hot sandwiches, fruits, and other miscellaneous items you couldn't find in any other donut shop. I've told them... if you add rack of clothing near the donut display, you'll have Wal-Mart scared! Anyway, the folks in there are always nice, Howie (the owner) is always smiling, and the donuts are not too shabby. Definitely 4 Stars for a pretty good donut shop experience. My one gripe: don't go in there during the hot summers. They don't run any air conditioning. Instead, they turn on two fans (with the doors closed), and hope to circulate the air so as to cool the place down. Sad. read more

I LAVAAA Doughnut Holes ! Especially when they're from Uncle Joe's ! I wish I had some now as I write this review ! ): The papa bear took me here a few years back and we haven't stopped coming since ! He's madly in love with their Cinnamon Rolls because the glaze is so crispy and when you take that first bite, "its like an orgasm in your mouth." I usually come here for donuts, but my sisters and I decided to stop by and try out their breakfast sandwiches. I got the #11, which is bacon, egg, ham & cheese on a bagel. My sisters both got the #12, which is the same thing, but on an english muffin instead. The prices for the sandwiches were not bad, considering the portion size was good. The #11 was $2.75 and the #12 was $2.50. In regards to our breakfast, we were satisfied with the food, the price, and how long we waited to get our food (which wasn't long at all). After we ate our breakfast, we decided to surprise our parents and the rest of our family with some donuts. I had went there a few weeks prior to this particular visit, and was helped by an older gentleman who said the price was $9/dozen. However, this time around, I was helped by a younger guy, and he said it was $10/dozen. I know it's only a $1 difference, but I just didn't like the inconsistency of the prices. Not cool. I'm chalking this up to a misunderstanding of the prices, or maybe they just raised their prices. Since I've been coming here for years, I will try this place again. Fine donut establishment with delicious donuts for all. I knew a donut spot in San Gabriel would be good and have all the characteristics needed. Such as selling everything besides donuts; Boba, sandwiches, drinks, croissants, energy drinks, coffee frappachino things... all with pictures of everything. In spite of more miscellaneous things than needed, the place had some great donuts. The fritter was yummy with apple goodness, cinnamon veins and a nice glaze. I was originally concerned it was too dry but after the third bite that idea was out the door. Next time you are in the area, go there! read more

We needed breakfast in a pinch time this morning so stopped by Uncle Joe's since it appeared to be the only place around that was open on Chinese New Year. At breakfast time the place gets good business with most of the clientele being non-Chinese. The owner (Uncle Joe?) provides pretty friendly service. Donuts are very large here. My seven year son ordered a rainbow-colored cornflake donut and really enjoyed it, finishing it in about ten minutes. My daughter craved some Boba milk tea but we were a little skeptical about the quality of tea at this place. Unfortunately our concern was confirmed and we discovered the tea was way too sweet and had no tea flavor. My daughter, who has a sweet tooth, struggled to drink half her cup of tea. She also complained that the tapioca pearls' texture was too mushy. Overall, we feel the donuts are worth a try. The sandwiches, listed on their pictured menu, look extensive and appetizing although we didn't get to sample any. I would just skip the tea or at least try to request much less sugar. Boba milk tea was definitely a bad value with the cost being comparable to other tea places and yet the quality so poor. read more

It is also on my way to school so it has been my life saver for many years. I've been looking for a place that has awesome French Crullers and this is the spot! Anyone who loves French Crullers knows how hard they can be to find and how hit or miss they can be, but this place has so many flavors of them!!! I will definitely be back for more soon. I also had the ham and cheese croissant and honestly it was not my favorite. I didn't care for the croissant to filling ratio (too little filling) because the croissant was so long. I am much more a fan of the smaller rectangular ham and cheese croissants that are popular in my area. The inside seating is pretty small so my husband and I ate our donuts and played our scratchers in the car. My sister and I used to love this place as kids. Unfortunately, this all changed during our last and final visit to Uncle Joe's. We went here on a whim to pick up some sandwiches for the family. While doing so we noticed there were a couple of flies in the donut display...ok, no big deal. It happens. It was a hot muggy summer day. What was a big deal was what the lady behind the counter did after making our sandwiches. Apparently, she noticed the flies in the display as well. However, instead of swatting them out of the display or even having the decency of using a fly swatter to kill them, she grabbed the donut tongs and proceeded to snatch and squash the flies with them. My sister and I looked at each other in disbelief. Out of the goodness of my heart, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and figured that was a just "fly killing tong" and there was another tong she was going to use when we ordered our donuts. Wrong. As we purposely put in our request for a donut, my sister and I both watched in disbelief as she picked up the same exact tongs she used to snatch and squash flies and proceeded to pick up the donut. Um, excuse me...I know that you know that I know what you know and you saw that I saw that you saw what you did. So WTF?! I graciously declined the donut and nicely pointed out that she used that same tong to kill flies. She smiled and giggled. I don't think she understood what I said... While files may be a delicacy to some people, they are not to me. I despise them. And even if I didn't, I don't want to eat them. We quickly got out of there without donuts or an appetite. What a disappointment. I was drawn here by the good reviews on Yelp, turns out those good reviews were just a whole bunch of misplaced nostalgia. I thought I could find a good alternative to Donut Man that wouldn't require a trip to Glendora, but boy, was I mistaken. I'm still trying to get rid of the film of grease in my mouth. I appreciate that people remember Uncle Joe's fondly as a place they used to visit in high school. Uncle Joe's is not just a donut place now; they sell everything from pseudo-fancy coffee drinks to french fries to tuna sandwiches. And their donuts have surely suffered. Uncle Joe's buttermilk bar was missing that distinctive sour flavor, or it may be there, but really watered down. I understand the cruller wasn't fresh out of the kitchen, but that was no excuse for it to have the consistency and taste of dry, overcooked scrambled eggs. The chocolate glaze had the same corn syrupy taste of any old donut shop around. By comparison, the chocolate glaze at Donut Man exhibits true milk chocolate flavor and texture. I bake often, so I can tell the difference between real ingredients and shortcut substitutes. So maybe Uncle Joe's is okay if you need to grab quick junk food in the morning, but if you want to know how donuts should really taste, like in the old days when people used real ingredients, get thee to Donut Man. read more

Buttermilk donuts the likes of which no one else has ever made. Fast forward in the time machine 30+ years, not to mention 30+ pounds, and Uncle Joe's is still in San Gabriel. They pretty much put glaze on top of everything here. I've had the crumb donuts, twists, eclairs, and they are all delicious. My bf ordered the croissant with ham and cheese. At first, I was a little skeptical because it wasn't one of their featured items. He got it toasted. I took a bite and it was DELICIOUS. A perfect breakfast if you are on the go. Came to find out this week, if they can make a giant donuts and they can. They were very helpful and understanding. Giant donut prices varies by what you want on it. Can't go wrong with them. Better than your local run of the mill donut shops. Locals have advised that this store has been around since they were in junior high, and they are in their late thirties. I really enjoyed the flavor, not heavy greasy tasting at all, which I've had plenty of. It did not leave the nasty film in my mouth. I had the below: Crumb coated glazed. Just the right amount of crumbs, not too sweet and soft, the glaze was not overpowering and added the perfect sweetness. Chocolate covered Boston cream filled. Yummy! I grabbed the last one that was in the display case. Just the right amount of fluffy cream. Since this was the same batter I assume to make the crumb donut, the texture and flavor was consistent. Best Donuts in the San Gabriel Valley.Period. I discovered this place after me and my erm, "intoxicated" friend were talking about donuts and he brought up this place. Needless to say we've been going there ever since, usually late at night. Ive driven to other shops to try to find some equivalent or even better but to no avail. There is a kid, probably a teenager by the looks of it working there whenever we drop by. Hes super friendly, and the prices arent bad, under a dollar for most donuts, we almost always go out spending under 4 dollars for multiple donuts. My only complain is that I swear this guy kinda makes up the prices sometimes by adding on a few cents, or in one case a couple dollars(9 dollars for a dozen glazed donuts?).
