I come here for dinner about 2 times per month with my daughter. We usually share the table side guacamole and a chicken fajitas, always good! The El Jefe margarita is so good if you like spice, and they also have a spicy salsa if you request it. The rewards program is really great at Uncle Julio's. I have been to this restaurant 5 times. Each and every time has been terrible. The last time I visited I got food poisoning and was sick for 2 days. Today, I decided to give uncle Julio's one final chance. I ordered carry out, after waiting 12 minutes to place my order, the manager answered. I asked for the price of the family tray, and He told me In an extremely rude tone that I should've checked the menu for the prices before calling. The prices are not listed on the mobile site. He took my order and said it'd be 20-25 minutes. When I arrived I waited for 4 minutes to be greeted to pick up my order. Then, I saw that they charged me for 2 orders of guacamole and salsa I didn't order. It totaled to be $21 extra! I got that corrected to one Guac. After waiting over an hour, They brought out my order and it was entire wrong. Wrong beans, forgot the $7 guac I paid for, steak cooked rare when I asked for medium well, forgot tortillas, etc. It was a disaster. Three different managers came out and not one apologized, they just found a way to blame me (saying things like I wasn't specific enough when I ordered). I ended up leaving the food there and demanding a full refund. I walked out without the meal. Never, ever going back. If you love f'ed up meals, terrible customer service (the customer is always wrong) , food that gives you food poisoning and a long wait- this place is for you. Uncle Julios exceeded my expectations. The drinks and the food were great. I have super low expectations for Mexican food in Loudoun County but it really was good. We came on a weekend and the music was energetic and the restaurant was packed. It's nicely decorated inside, but the bathrooms kind of felt weird like the inside of a small local dive or something. Music was way too loud in there, no lighting, and small. It's way too expensive to make a habit out of going here, but when I'm craving Mexican food I'll be sure to come back. read more

We have been coming to this restaurant since they opened. Over the past year there has been a rapid decline in food quality, cleanliness and service. Today we gave it another try...we will never return. Upon arrival we were greeted by gum-smacking hostess who told us to "stand to the side" while our table was being set. We sat down at a dirty table, food stained utensils and served water glasses with lip/food stains freshly on the rim. At that point i considered collecting the kids and heading to Matchbox but we reluctantly ordered lunch. Lunch arrived with steak completely over- cooked and more dirty dishes - yuck! The steak was so over-cooked we had to remove it from the searing plates and place the meat on the tiny chip plates to keep from burning. No one asked if our meal was prepared to order...hmmm. At the conclusion of this $150 horrible lunch, my daughter and i went to wash our hands. The women's washroom had to have been the filthiest scene I have ever encountered. The restaurant had just opened 45 minutes earlier so the filth we encountered was from the night before!!!!! They don't have anyone overseeing the bathrooms to ensure they aren't violating health code!?! Trash over flowing in the women's stalls, toilets not operational and clogged, paper towel holder laying in sink basin, water and mess all over sink vanity and a smell that you really don't want to have in any restaurant. Clearly this establishment does not care about what their customers encounter. They truly believe their "name" will continue to carry them - well it will not. As a parent I will never bring my family back to this restaurant. The General Manager and staff should be ashamed of what they are putting out to loyal customers. I'd rather eat box tacos than dine in Uncle Julio's One Loudoun ever again. Advice to management - Clean it up, have some integrity and think twice before taking advantage of your Loudoun County clientele- we will not support you if you do not respect us. Easily the worst food we have eaten locally. It was funny too because my party of 4 kept eating hoping we would find flavor after the next bite hahaha but to no success! We can't imagine what it's like to work there if you know good Mexican food and you have to serve this tasteless stuff (can't even call it food). Swung in for a family lunch last weekend. Overall, a solid experience. When we arrived, the place was moderately crowded. It was a beautiful day, so there was a 40 minute wait for a table on the patio. But, inside we were able to sit immediately. Once at our table, our waitress appeared immediately and came back often. Along the way she was friendly and engaging, happy to make recommendations, and patient with our questions. We started with chips, salsa, cheese sauce, and margaritas. The cheese sauce was average, but the margaritas were great. For our meals, we ordered enchiladas, fajitas, a quesadilla, and a plain beef taco. Across the board the food was decent...nothing really stood out, but nothing was bad. In the end, the balance of the experience earned a low 4-stars. The food could have been a bit better, but was still definitely acceptable for this type of restaurant. Tasty food but a 1 star dining experience equals two stars overall. First the waiter sarcastically informs me that they have never made chiles relleno, even though the last bartender told me that it was available "off menu." That's fine but then he had to go on and lecture me that, making chiles relleno is a "whole process" and "we don't even have eggs in our kitchen." Well yes, it is a "process" -- and that process is called cooking, which is what restaurants do. I know it is a difficult dish to make but many of the other Mexican restaurants in the area serve them, including the Uncle Julio's in Reston and Arlington. It's fine if you don't want to have them on your menu but don't treat me like I am crazy for asking. I proceeded to order fajitas which literally were brought out to me within one minute of my having ordered them. Who wants their food out in 60 seconds, this isn't Taco Bell. The food tasted fine but I feel completely rushed like all they wanted was to get my money and get me out of there. I like the food but certainly will never return to the OneLoudoun location. Excited to try Uncle Julio's as we had not been there for several months. We were seated in the bar area and we waited 20 minutes to have our drink order taken. Only 3 in our party. Waiter gave us our drinks took our order and never returned. He was waiting on other tables consistently and tables that came in after ours. After about 50 minutes ( drinks empty , chips) we inquired about our food order because other tables that came in after us were being served their meals. The waiter told my husband that the he and the manager have no idea why the food isn't coming out. My husband said that's unfortunate but we have a child who is hungry so please let us pay for the drinks so we can go. A water, and soda. We still are not sure why we were treated this way but we definitely won't be back. If there was a problem then the manager should have come over to be honest and tell us your food hasn't even started preparation, but no they sit us there with empty drinks and chips and a small hungry child. Waiting for food and drinks a total of 70 minutes is absurd and what is more absurd they didn't even care to keep our business! read more

Frequent this location on a regular basis. First waiter was very curt and seemed almost like he did not want to be there. Additionally he seemed like he wasn't paying attention. He was easily frustrated by a miscommunication that resulted in a mistake with our order and then proceeded to act like we were just trying to irritate him. His demeanor and attitude was absolute garbage. We both ordered fajitas. We asked if they could do half chicken half shrimp for the second order. We were told sure no problem. We were brought a half chicken, half shrimp quesadilla. When we told him that's not what we order he got upset at us. Maria, who helped by bring out our food, was very polite and made sure the mistake was fixed. We asked if she could wait on us instead. She was very helpful, smiled and you could tell she cared. The Manager apologized for the inconvenience and made sure the mistakes were taken care of and followed up with us several times. The manager made sure my food was remade so it was hot and we could eat together. Nice job to Maria and the manager for turning a bad experience into a good one. I'm an out of town visitor from Arizona so there is Mexican food at every corner. I'm doing some training here in Ashburn and just wanted some good Mexican food! We had an hour for lunch and went to Uncle Julio's! We had the shrimp tacos and the veggie quesadilla and it was so delicious! We were able to order our food and eat and be back in time. The food was so fresh and everything truly is homemade. We want to go back and try the tableside guacamole! We saw it from a distance and everything was so colorful! Had a Father's Day reservation for 5pm. It took 20 minutes to get a server. I had to ask a server and then a Manager if anyone had been assigned to our table twice. I've never had to do that before in a restaurant. Then it took another 20 minutes to get one water, a coke and a milk. We ordered our meals and ordered a table side guacamole. The guac ended up coming with our meal (i.e. not table side) and my wife's meal was wrong. Then it took another 20 minutes to get the check and get out of there. We had a chance to go to the newest Uncle Julio's grand opening. Jealous that this location is even nicer than the Fairfax location. The layout of this store, although larger is a bit more intimate and quieter, but not too quiet to take the little ones to. Food was great as always and if you want great service, you know you can always get it here. The table-side guacamole was incredible and the portion was almost too much for our table of 4. There were some new special margaritas and if you have a chance to try the cucumber margarita, it was interesting. Wow, I thought I'd see better reviews here. My experience here was the reason I signed-up for Yelp. We used to visit the Uncle Julios (back in the days when it was Rio Grande) in Arlington. It was our go-to spot for years. Their food is terrific, the chips are hugely addictive, and the salsa is always warm. The service can be a bit spotty here and there, but that always seems to be a function of how busy they are. We've learned to go early, typically closer to 5. By the time we've had a 'rita (or two!) and an appetizer, it's 6pm and time for din-din. The prices may seem a bit much, but for the quality and serving-sizes (plenty to take home), it's a terrific bargain. The tableside guacamole is absolutely amazing. I've tried to recreate this at whom, to no avail. After we moved to the 'burbs, we seemed to have left our good friend in Arlington alone. So when Uncle Julios came to Loudoun One, we were thrilled. Great food, great drinks, great prices. We will be back! And we will be back, again! read more

I went to a birthday dinner last night for one of my best friends and it was my first time at their Ashburn location. I really liked my server, he was pretty cute; although, very helpful when I was figuring out what to order. I got half and half quesadillas and they were delicious! My wife and I went to One Loudoun this past weekend and had appetizers and dinner at the recently opened Uncle Julio's. We've been to other locations (primarily Reston) and have always been happy with the food and the service.....great selection of Tequila as well. Our experience at the new restaurant was no different. Upon our arrival, we both noted that the interior was welcoming and a bit more upscale than those we've eaten at previously. We were promptly seated in the bar area for drinks while we waited for our table. My margarita was excellent and my wife gave her sangria high marks. Once seated for dinner, we ordered appetizers and also ordered the table side guacamole which was prepared fresh at our table. I would highly recommend this offering as it was the best guacamole I've ever tasted. I ordered the shrimp tacos which were outstanding. Generous amount of shrimp with a mango salsa....a very good combo. All in all, very good Mexican food and wonderful service.....looking forward to going back when it gets warmer to enjoy the outdoor seating. read more

I assume they accidentally spilled the oil in them and this was the worst experience yet, but it's just never good, and the restaurant is often dirty. The only awesome thing about Uncle Julio's is the salsa. Spicy, a little smoky and authentic with no chunky tomatoes - yay! Thats it. Everything else is overpriced and mediocre. A group of 6 of us went during lunch. There were a couple fish tacos on the menu, one with tilapia and one with tuna. I never order anything with tilapia, since I feel like tilapia is a "token" fish on a menu. You know, the "we aren't really excited about fish, but but we should have something on the menu" fish. So, I ordered the tuna. It took foreeeever for us to get our food. Everyone in the group except for me got some variation of fajitas. The veggie fajita looked horrible. I'm glad I didn't order it. The veggies were huge chunks of portabello mushrooms, zucchini and summer squash. The pieces had to be cut up before being assembled into the tortilla, what a pain. Everyone else said their food was just ok. The tuna tacos were stuffed with a mango jicama slaw. They should have been called slaw tacos with a bit of tuna. I had to remove almost all the slaw before eating the tacos otherwise I couldn't event taste the tuna. I'll just continue to go to my favorite, T'KiLa in South Riding. So not worth coming over to Uncle Julio's. read more

This place is busy at this time, I am aware of it and prepare to wait for tables etc... but that is not excuse for such a poor customer service and lets not even mention how dirty this place is. And I know is busy, but there is busy dirty and no staff cleaning dirty. Every single time the customer service lacks of everything. I LOVE uncle Julio's.... (Usually) today we feasted on chips and salsa and the table-side guac was really cool and delicious. We had the swirls (of course) on a gorgeous summer afternoon- al fresco. Unfortunately, the chicken (fajita chicken) was grossly undercooked which went unnoticed until well into my second fajita. When mentioned to the server he told us it was a vein.... Bad. Idea. The manager came out and said "yes it should have been on the grill longer, but I'm sure you won't get sick. This is how I always eat my chicken" What???? You always eat raw chicken!? I come here with my family occasionally, and their food is pretty good. I have always tried to pick something new off of the menu, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Their guacamole as the appetizer is very delicious but filling so I wouldn't eat to much of it. I would recommend trying their enchiladas or fajitas. Those two are a favorite for sure. The environment and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Everything is clean and neat. I don't ever recall having a bad experience here. I love Mexican food and I truly wanted to like this place, but sadly everything from the food to the service was a huge disappointment. My table and I ordered the Cozumel shrimp tacos, chicken enchiladas, and steak & enchilada dinner. The cozumel shrimp tacos came with 3 soft tortillas consisting of seared shrimp, pineapple, mango jicama slaw and their mango habanero sauce. It SOUNDS good, but truthfully the platter actually lacked flavor and was very bland. The chicken enchiladas were okay, definitely not worth the expensive price and the steak and enchilada dinner was unmemorable. The service was inattentive and not so friendly. As other yelp reviewers have mentioned, it definitely seemed like the servers were more engaged in their own conversations with each other then their actual customers. On the plus side, the decor is nice and most definitely trendy. However, I think I can find better tasting food and at a cheaper price elsewhere. read more

We should have gone to Reston! The waiter got the order wrong. Then it took the manager at least 10 mins. to come to the table. She wasn't very apologetic, seemed to not care. I believe at that point the 2 meals were put in. I'm posting this after waiting 15-20 minutes of waiting for the correct plates. I have to give it to them. They got the 2 kids cheese quesadilla's and the Fajita's right. Oh and the waiter and the drink refills sucked as well. Update-we only paid for drinks. I've noticed lately the ratings for Uncle Julio's, and particularly the one in Ashburn, going downhill. I've had nothing but good experiences at this location so I wanted to weigh in and highlight the positive. Last week we took 11 people there for my fiance's 40th birthday. Everything was great! We arrived early, well in advance of our reservation and hung out at the bar for about 15 minutes. The hostess offered to take the cake I brought immediately to make life easier. The bartender was fantastic. He made about 6 drinks in record time, offered us chips and salsa, and even offered to buy my fiance a drink to celebrate his birthday. Much to my surprise the manager came over and offered to seat us 15 minutes before our reservation time just so we could get settled in and even before the rest of our party got there (unheard of at any Uncle Julio's location!). Our server, Justin, was fantastic. Despite having a large party with constant needs, he never once acted like he was annoyed with any requests. In fact, he was personable, pleasant, and always had a smile on his face and something nice to say. He really made the whole experience great. This was also the first time I've been with a large group to any restaurant and had all of the food come out at the same time and correct. I was amazed. Usually there is at least one person (usually me), whose food was forgotten or completely done wrong. I would not hesitate to take any size group back to Uncle Julio's in Ashburn. Be careful what you eat here! Got food poisoning! Food quality is poor. My tacos were not assembled correctly and when I asked the waitress I was just given the ingredients that were not on there. Really. Besides being sickened by the food there is a real issue here. Price: $18.99 for fajitas and $11.99 for quad made for 1 avocado... Really? Atmosphere: nice decor but the management needs to do something about the fly issue. I can understand flies if I am eating from a texmex food truck but not front this place.
