If you didn't have time to read the entire review, come here only if you are curious, having extra bucks to spent for no reasons, bored or just want to experience the hype. This restaurant is always busy, no matter what. Been here twice or thrice I believe. The Ambiance is what we supposed to expect, nothing extra special. The waitress not the friendliest but not the rudest. Food wise, it's something that you eat and the next day you already forgot how it was. It doesn't make you keep thinking about nor craving for it immediately. But it's not taste bad just not that memorable. Price point, as expected, Stone bridge has their own "price point" and so this place of course. I am not an expert restaurant critics, so I will just make it easier. The whole point is, if you want to spend $ to enjoy food that has better taste, please go to another place that offers good food and good price. read more

Absolutely horrible experience in this establishment, and I've been coming here for years. It's Mother's Day and obviously Uncle Julio's staff was very overwhelmed, and understaffed. Which was actually vocalized when I made it to the host stand after waiting in a line to be greeted. I made my reservation at 8:30, and we were five minutes late at most. But we got stuck behind a large crowd of people that the hosts were clearly struggling to seat. Get to the front I told the young lady that I have a reservation thinking that I would be prioritized only to be dismissed and treated VERY rudely. She put her hand up in my face, and repeatedly told us "I need a minute" and all I asked was how many minutes we can go step outside since you're so busy. We had no issue waiting, nor was I impatient, or retaliative. She was obviously stressed. Then rudely said we were "15 minutes late" as if she didn't keep us waiting for 10 minutes. I say nothing to that. I used to work in service industry so I get it. She's also clearly young, and inexperienced. The hilarious part is that via open table, you only accept reservations within in 30 min increments. Meaning the next party to come if booked would be at 9pm. Us making it to the host stand at 8:40pm means our table should be available. The host obviously seated walk in's forgetting there's reservations. So assumed we weren't coming when we were just waiting for her. AGAIN we waited behind a crowd of people. We step aside say nothing, and are seated promptly. My mom called the young lady rude, and said she was acting like a "b*tch" which she was when we were already seated amongst me, and my brother. No denying that. Her name is Reilly, and it was just not her day. But no one cursed at her nor was it announced with an outdoor voice to the whole restaurant. The information was collected via eavesdropping from a near by coworker who alerted the manager. Soon the real tyrant, big and bad Brenda "the manager" comes over, on her real high horse. She had to keep reminding us she was the manager because I guess thats a status of importance we had to grasp. Saying we have to leave because her waitress overheard my mom calling the host a "b*tch". Now this is America you could say whatever you want. Words don't kill, and once again it was private conversation that was taken out of context. I've seen way more displays of bad behavior at Uncle Julio's. I've seen fights, disrespectful customers at the bar, sloppy drunk people causing scenes, and DEFINITELY heard my fair share of F-Bombs in there. It's a restaurant, not the Vatican. None of those guests were never kicked out like we were. Again I frequent this establishment that much to know that. The manager was completely out of line. Behaved inappropriately, and handled the situation very badly. It was like she wanted to argue no matter how diplomatic I was. I'm a business owner myself and was floored by the disrespect miss Brenda the manager displayed. I tried to be fair, and explain our frustration assuming she would have an understanding to why we were feeling disrespected. It really wasn't that big of a deal at that point, we were looking at the menu and had already forgotten about the host. I even apologize for calling the host a "b*tch" and said "ok now what?". Brenda however was at 100° upset trying to remove us. Obviously took the cursing as a prime reason to kick us out because they only had 5 servers. We clearly weren't going to get good service, so it was for the best. She knew she couldn't accommodate me, and hit the ground running with the argument of profanity. It was completely blown out of proportion, and again we were treated like trash over something so trivial. As a business owner I know what she was doing. Where is the written restaurant policy that dignifies kicking customers out for having a private discussion. Again no one said anything to staff directly. It was the facts. Reily was being a b*tch, and Brenda an even bigger one. Choose whatever adjective you want, they were shrews, demented, stubborn, nasty women... whatever. Never come here, they're clearly not equipped to handle high volume on holidays. Brenda should be removed from her position since she cannot dispel issues properly also the title manager seems to give her a huger head, which is embarrassing for your company. read more

Don't look like much when you walk up and it gets even worse these days when you go in. I was a fan before the pandemic but down hill from there. I tried to give it one more try on Wednesday, BIG mistake. The chicken had the look and texture of bad frozen chicken from a bag and the stake, (ordered medium well) was blackened with ashe, overcooked and was like chewing a rubber band. And on top of all that, I made the big mistake of picking up my plate and ended up with black ashe all over my hands, my light colored shirt and anything else I touched. I am not a fan of Mexican food. At least i wasn't until i came to UJ. Ohhh... our food was so delicious. We ordered guacamole, and was freshly made. However, we ordered a regular of the menu guac. I strongly suggest to order the one that made i front of you- bigger portion, and extra fun. My mojito was great. The shrimp fajitas unbelievably good! The portion is huge. The waiter was great and the place was clean. The food is mediocre. My party of three only had a few bites each and we were finished. My cup was absolutely disgusting. I noticed residue in my cup and I wiped it with my napkin (in the pictures) and I brought it up to the waiter; nicely. When visiting relatives in NoVa, Uncle Julio's has become a nice meal to look forward to. Whether it's the chips and salsa, the table-side guac, fun cocktails, or the sizzling hot fajitas, there's a lot to like when dining at Uncle Julio's. Stereotypical name aside, Julio's has a nice vibe to it and is a great spot for large groups. The bar area has a lot of high top tables and some TV's for catching a game and you'll get pretty quick service from the numerous employees tending bar. Try the frozen drinks, they go down scarily well. The last time we were in town, we were surprised to hear that Uncle Julio's served brunch. Not having eaten a "Mexican" brunch before, we stopped in to give it a shot. I had the steak and egg soft tacos and was only disappointed that there wasn't more steak. The flavors were great and the chips and salsa went surprisingly well with my breakfast choice. If you are bring along picky eaters, they do have bacon, breakfast potatoes, and plain eggs if that's more up your alley for brunch. Prices are middle of the road for this area and about what you'd expect from a trendy Mexican restaurant. Drinks aren't cheap, but they don't skimp on the alcohol and they have a high quality selection. Service has always been reliable, but not blazing fast as others have noted. Chips and salsa on the house was amazing. I truly enjoyed my grilled jumbo shrimp and steak fajitas.

The atmosphere and decor is nice and welcoming however, don't let it fool you. The staff are careless, it took over 20 minutes after being seated for any waiter or waitress to introduce themselves to us. By that time we were ready to order and placed that as well. Mind you, our waitress had been walking past us a few times, others including the manager just kept looking at us and not saying anything. 45+ minutes after ordering (chicken tenders and a fajita) the brought the wrong food. The correct food came about 10-15 minutes later. The food is average at best and not worth that wait at all. The staff is too busy watching the tv by the bar to tend to any of the customers. Our waitress was AMAZING! Unfortunately this place didn't deserve her. I think her name was Kierra? Wish I could remember because I'd only come back if I could ensure she worked our table. It was my husband and my first time dining here and she walked us through everything on the menu and made great suggestions. She was very patient although she was clearly overworked due to it being noticeable understaffed. She was working like 3 other sections and her our food came out accurate with all of our modifications, our drinks remained filled, and she always stopped by to ask if we needed anything. This is not my favorite restaurant or one that I frequent but if I am invited... it's not to the point where I would turn it down. The restaurant is very open and LOUD which is one of the reasons why this location in particular is not my favorite. We had reservations for 7 and there were no end booths available so we were sat in the middle near the fireplace next to a family with kids who continued to bang on the table like it was a drum set. I can be somewhat hyper-vigilant to sounds and very active environments so this place hits the mark on everything under the sun... kids, utensils banging in the kitchen, sizzling of the grill... an entire gamut of things. The waiter arrived and I asked him if the entire restaurant was this loud and he said "pretty much" then politely asked if I'd like to be moved somewhere else like to a booth and I said "yes, please". He said he would walk around to find a booth away from the center of the restaurant and return. So.. he returned and said he did find a booth in the bar area that he thought was the farthest away from the main dining area, much calmer and quiet. He relocated us to the new area which was very nice of him. It seemed as if he would have been a great waiter so I felt badly about having to move but it was too turbulent in the middle of the restaurant. He was given a nice tip just because of his nice gesture. So the booth near the bar was sooooo much better and we could actually have a conversation and hear each other's voices. The new waiter was just as nice, friendly, and attentive as the first one. The food was really good. The vegetable quesadilla was grilled perfectly with the right amount of veggies and cheese. Trust me... a simple quesadilla can be messed up in so many ways. In this case the tortilla was crispy and soft at the same time with a hit of butter but not lathered in butter. The veggies were cooked enough that there was still a slight crunch and not soggy. The cheese was the right amount not too cheesy where it overpowers the veggies. I didn't hear any complaints about the chicken tacos... they all got eaten. Why 4 stars and not 5?!?! Good question. read more

First time at Uncle Julio's and I impressed by the quality of the food! I was holding off on going there for the longest time because of subpar yelp review. But my wife and I decided to go on a Sunday night and the place was packed. 40 minutes later. We were seated. Our host greeted us quite promptly and was very informative for being a first time customer. The prices at Uncle Julio's is more expensive than what you'd see at a typical local Mexican restaurant, but I think the price makes up for it with the quality of food they serve. I had the fish taco entree and my wife had a combination steak and chicken fajitas. They were both very delicious and perfectly cooked. This was a rare occasion where yelp review didn't match our great experience. The size of the restaurant may make it a little chaotic to be seated and the front end customer service may suffer because of that reason. But from a food quality standpoint, it certainly deserves more than a 3 stars. I'll definitely be going back to Uncle Julio's again. read more

I decided to stop in for happy hour and treat myself. My server was Sebastian, he was amazing. 1 thing I really appreciate is an honest server. Don't over sell me everything, what good, whats preferred taste, what taste better together etc. I was a server you know what's good on the menu, moving on...., with some of his suggestions I chose the chicken tortilla bowl upgraded to steak. After some honest feedback (prior to my food arriving) I made some adjustments and my food came out, PERFECT! I loved every bite and the customer service was amazing. A decent restaurant for what it is. The service was great. We were there in a large party celebrating a friend's birthday. We had a section reserved for us, 2 long tables and 4 booths. The serves were attentive yet not over intrusive, after all we were there to hang out and have some food. The food, the fish tacos I had were so spicy it was almost unbearable to eat. Had I know they were going to be spicy I would have ordered something else. Perhaps a warning or description on the menu would be nice. Didn't finish them. They have a table side bartender who makes some interesting drinks. Think table side guacamole. Then there is the chocolate piñata. They were cold and the kids meal was also forgotten and brought later. I tried to speaking to the manager Christian about our service and food but he could careless. He promised to take off the kids meal but he did not. My husband tried to talk with him but he had no sympathy to our experience being bad. We are not mean people but when you spend $100 for dinner you are expecting some level of quality and service. The food is great. We usually come with a big group so we always order the big fajitas platters. The bacon wrapped shrimp are to die for. The shrimp is definitely a favorite of mine. The steak and chicken are good too. The table side guacamole is fantastic and can be customized to our liking. We also get the white cheese dip. I didn't care much for the yellow cheese dip(heavy on the onion). Margaritas are a must every visit. And we have a favorite server, Frank. He always makes sure our visit is great. Our drinks never empty and everything we need is at the table. Sometimes the waits are long but we call ahead and make a reservation so we don't have to wait too long. Look. I understand that it's NYE and the restaurant industry is slammed tonight. But don't accept pick-up orders to be ready at 6:15 if they still aren't going to be ready at 7:30...and then to not offer anything substantial as an apology to your guests who have waited for their food. To not even offer them a drink (or two at this point!!) while they're waiting is ridiculous. The tables in the restaurant have flipped TWICE in this same amount of time. We ordered fajitas for two and some extra rice. The order was accepted by the online ordering system to be ready at 6:15. I've now made our (very hangry) kids something else for dinner because waiting for my husband to get home with our food ... that was supposed to be ready OVER AN HOUR AGO ... has taken too damn long. If you're not staffed to fill pick-up orders and dine-in orders, then stop accepting pick-up orders. And in the meantime, offer your line out the door waiting for their pick-up orders something to drink...or free food. Something more than simply saying "I'm really sorry about this," because at this point, I don't believe that you are. 2.5 stars because damn I like the food and the salsa is my fave. read more

MAJOR LET DOWN. I remember when they first opened. Everything was perfect. The food was amazing, the drinks perfect, and the ambiance was second to none. To say I was in love with this place is an understatement. I would easily visit 2-3 times per week. Over time the quality of the food changed. It's no longer hot. You have to specifically ask for things like; Mexican butter. The servers attitudes are moot. The bathrooms aren't as clean. Kidus was an awesome bartender and server! We came for a quick cocktail before we went shopping and we ended up staying for two hours. He was so pleasant and friendly during the service and we were very pleased after being disgruntled at a previous restaurant in the vicinity. He had great recommendations and we were impressed by the quality of the cocktails as well as the delicious bacon wrapped shrimp. We spoke to a manager over the phone and she said we had "selected" burnt on our order which isnt even an option on door dash !!!! Terrible customer service ! Ridiculous . NOT happy! Uncle Julios is starting to grow on me. Their music choices are great, and the hostess up front are really sweet. We were assigned to a table near the fireplace, and i felt i was being cooked. My cup of water was leaking forming a puddle of the table, due to the warmth. We decided to try the 321 drink and i felt like it was completely overpriced. It is suppose to be an icy drink, but the heat completely turned it warm. Someone comes to the table and prepares the drink for you, which is nice.... but the price ... would never order that drink again. read more

I wish I could give this place a better review as it was better the last couple of times we dined there. As soon as we walked in it seemed like the hostess was "helping" another guest by waiting for another hostess to come and sit him which doesn't give her any reason to not acknowledge us let us know " she'll be with us soon". When we finally were walking to our table come to find out our table( booth) was dirty which hostess decided to wipe it with wet rag? We decided to let that go and start eating since we were hungry. Our server did not seem to know obvious things as we had to tell him. We also had another incident with a sauce that was brought to some woman manager which was completely ignored!
