We tried Uncle Mac's on a whim and we are so glad we did! Phenomenal seafood tacos! I got the fish taco and shrimp taco and my partner got fish and salmon taco with a clam chowder. The tacos are loaded up with cabbage and fish and are so good. The clam chowder was also perfectly seasoned. It's a great casual spot to stop by for lunch or dinner. First time trying this place! The man who took our orders was so nice and helpful, she gave us delicious recommendations. The tom yum fries were crispy, I love the shape. The tom yum flavor came from the seasoning, so it was not super flavorful (which I did not mind). The mahi taco was a little dry, but the salmon one was good. I like how the tortilla was cooked and I loved the green sauce they come with. The shrimp burger was so yummy, the patty was a good size and crispy. The bun was soft and the chips they came with were delicious. The fish and chips were also delicious, I loved how the breading was not thick. My first visit here and definitely not my last. I've been wanting to try their fish sandwich and it met all.my expectations. A nice big piece of Cod in a potato bun, with pickles, tartar sauce and a slice of american cheese. Really delicious and exactly what I want in a fish sandwich. The plate also came with homemade potato chips that were a pleasant surprise with how well they were done. We also tried the battered crispy green beans and they were a nice little side to try.My wife got the fish and chips (potato chips) that she said were a crispy outside and moist tender Cod on the inside. Initially, I was very skeptical of this place because I had tried other shops before for a fish sandwich and have been either unimpressed or just felt like I was getting little for what I paid for. Location: in the shopping center on Redondo Beach Blvd. and Western Avenue. The entire shopping center is mostly food related with a lot of Japanese restaurants. Food: I really wanted a fish sandwich and I didn't wanna go to McDonald's for it. I really wanted a GOOD fish sandwich. This one had a toasted bun, cheese, and a slathered layer of tartar sauce for the spread. Accompanying the dish came with homemade chips. You can ask them to take out items that you don't want in your sandwich, but you can't swap out the potato chips for any other side dish, unfortunately. This sandwich was hearty, not small and just the lightest crunch on the breading that I particularly enjoyed for a fish sandwich. Homemade chips were OK as some of them became limp, but were decently salted and not swimming in their own oil. Despite the cheese, the sandwich was not overly salty. Summary, I would come back here again the next time I get a craving for a fish sandwich. The service was helpful and friendly and the ambiance was open air and modern with plenty of seating available. Parking is shared, but the lot is large considering there are other restaurants in the same shopping center and can get quite crowded on busy nights. My granny had been asking me about them for a while now and she finally went last week. She also expressed how fire their food was so I had the pleasure of pulling up to see for myself today. Located in a plaza amongst many other restaurants on Redondo Beach and Western. There's a lot of parking spaces. One way in and out of the lot tho. Uncle Mac's kitchen has a nice sized restaurant. It's not big but I feel like it big enough. It looks nice. It was spacious inside with plenty of seating available. It is very clean. It was quiet but the vibes were cool especially with the music. Ryan and the other young guy; I asked for his name, got it and still forgot, smh but they were some real cool guys and I love the customer service. Those guys are awesome. Rayan was patient and helpful when I was looking over the menu. Very friendly and positive attitude. The other guy, I wasn't expecting him to bring my order out to me at my table. I just appreciate the professionalism and hospitality. Ryan confirmed that the fish burger was one of their best sellers and he also recommended it as a first time visitor. I was not disappointed. The owners of this restaurant are affiliated with the nearby Thai restaurant (Sweet Rice, Bowl Thai, Thai Hot Pot) so there's a Thai influence to the food and it's great! The worker was helpful and kind! I tried one battered cod taco and one grilled mahi taco and both were tasty! I preferred the battered one a little more because they really nailed the crispy and salty batter. But the grilled mahi was still delicious. Each taco comes with a white sauce, onions, pico and lime. I wish they gave a little more pico and less white sauce. It also comes with a delicious Thai green seafood sauce, which is a great mix of savory, sour and herbaceous. Their corn tortillas are good too! Each taco is around $5 which isn't bad, especially because size-wise, they're pretty big and filling! We heard about this place from our fav Bowl Thai Grill and Sweet Rice. After finally checking it out; I have no clue why we waited so long. I am for sure coming back and bringing friends. Be aware that parking is always hard here because the plaza is busy (there are many good food options) but it is worth it for those sandwiches!! There are plenty of tables, it's very clean and does not have a fish smell, and the decor is a very pretty sea themed. Service is prompt and very friendly. I even saw a worker talk to a customer for about 10 min. It seemed like this person just was lonely lol but they were so sweet to that customer it was really nice to see that. Regarding the food... 10/10 would come again. My grandma got a bowl of clam chowder. In the pictures that have been posted it looks small but it was sizable in person. Gram only finished a little under half. She said it was really good and rich. Which is a great compliment because she has had a ton of clam chowder. My husband had the shrimp burger and he loved it! He said it had a great texture and tasted like shrimp. It wasn't overly processed so you still had that shrimp texture. He also really loved the green sauce that comes with it. I had the grilled salmon burger. I am also obsessed with this. I am not a big meat person and even less a burger person so this was perfect for me. For my personal preference I would just ask for the mayo/tartar sauce to be on the side. It was really good tartar sauce btw. Fish sandwiches tend to be juicy - no one likes a dry fish- so I would rather control the amount of sauce I put. This is completely personal preference and I feel like most people would like it as is. As others suggested I squeezed lemon onto my burger and had the green sauce. The green sauce and the lemon gave it a zippy taste. I pretty much inhaled this burger it was that good and I will be back for you my pretty very very soon. The home style chips that come with the burgers are really good. My husband loved them as is. I am picky so again personal preference would have been to get my chips well done because I like them extra extra crispy and brown. We also shared the Tom Yum Sidewinder Fries. The Tom Yum seasoning is amazing and I want it. Like I actually would buy a shaker of it to have at home haha. Suggestions: 1) I agree with other reviews it would be great to have some homemade drinks. Especially ice tea or something similar to an agua fresca. I just don't like buying bottles for some reason and rather have something unique and homemade. 2) Upgrade options for the sides on the burgers and sandwiches. Maybe .50 cents for Tom Yum seasoning on the chips and maybe $2 for an upgrade to the Tom Yum Sidewinder Fries. I just assume since the fries are more potato than the chips that they will cost more than chips. Other than that I really do not have any other suggestions. It was really great and I am super happy to have a unique, clean, and tasty seafood restaurant nearby. We plan to try the fried tilapia or grilled rockfish next time we come. My friend and I finally got a to stop into Uncle Mac's and our disappointment was realizing that we didn't visit sooner. The restaurant is spacious and minimalist with some framed art on the walls but nothing "fancy" and that's great. When you enter, you simply walk up to the counter to place your order. There's a photo menu of the food on the window so you can see what's available before walking in but at the counter there is a fuller menu listing sides so check that out too. We were greeted by a friendly server who answered my questions about flavors and after she took our order we took a seat by the window and waited. What a great food experience! My friend ordered the fish and chips and I had the whole fried tilapia! The fish and chips batter was soooooo good. You could see the seasoning used fried into the batter and the cod pieces were huge! I like their take on chips, homemade potato chips, a crunch in every bite. The tilapia was fried perfectly! I love a good crunch to the skin and I think Uncle Mac's gets it right--fried on the outside and tender on the inside. My meal came with the rice pilaf and steamed veggies. Both of our meals came with a cilantro chutney which was such a contrast to the fried aspect of the fish, a great balance. I ordered my tilapia tom yum style and will definitely get the garlic butter option next. I'm kicking myself for not getting the name of the woman we talked to as we were headed out (she works at the restaurant) because she made some recommendaitons for what to get on our next visit. A special seafood restaurant that I was able to treat my brother and sister to a nice lunch about a week ago. I had grilled salmon plate with spicy garlic butter. The meal was to die for! Totally flavorful and I savored each bite. My brother had the fish sandwich combo, and my sister had the fish/shrimp combo plate. They both enjoyed their dishes, and everything was consumed with gusto. The only suggestion that I would make is if they had some specialty, fresh juices available rather than the only choices being bottled and canned soft drinks. This place can frickin fry! Hands down the best fish taco I've had yet. They really nailed the lightest crispy, but never soggy batter. The ratio of slaw and cream is on point, and the green sauce they give you is incredibly flavorful. This is also just a fairly hefty and filling filet of fish so I always leave pretty satisfied. Their tom yum fries are also just perfectly cooked. I've never seen such a wild looking wedge fry. It's perfectly fluffy on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. Definitely have to try these two. The whole fried fish is also perfectly crispy outside and moist inside. I'm not sure how they do it but everything is just perfectly fried lol. The garlic noodles are creamy and have plenty of garlic taste. This place is criminally unknown and is my new go to spot for a delicious and affordable fish meal. I really hope people try this new place because it's sad to see this amazing restaurant empty while there are lines out of the already established ones in the same plaza. My message to the restaurant: I think you should really market some kind of specialty and identity. Right now, everything on your menu is equally highlighted and advertised. I think you should really try to emphasize the fish plates and fish tacos. I don't think anyone really sees the numerous small pictures on the outside and knows what to order. Give new customers an idea of what to buy. Lean more into your subtle Thai identity. You guys fry fish incredibly well, and it's perfect for when that is something I crave. It is just not something that compels me to eat here more often. The green sauce is good, but even that gets boring after the novelty wears off. What you need is some variety. I would love to be able to change it up to something like a laarb flavored fish taco. Instead of just butter sauce, I would love a panang sauce on my grilled fish. We got here at a decent hour on a Friday before 6pm so there were several rows of parking towards the back. There was a friendly cashier and order taker at the counter who also brings the food to you when dining in. They have only been open since March 1st so not a lot of Friday dinner traffic yet. I like the fish tacos. I get the flavors of the batter, cilantro, lime, and creamy sauce. They give you a salsa in a cup to jazz it up as well. Tom Yum fries are yum although some of the seasoning falls to the bottom of the tray. Beans and rice are A-OK! Could not get into the clam chowder. A bit watery. The dining area is clean and has city of Gardena related decor. Great service and hospitality. OMGGGGGGG! It hasn't been one hour since I got home with the food and I just had to write a review. I'm excited that Uncle Mac's is local. Fish burger and chips are 100/10. The flavors are amazing. The bun is fresh, and the tartar sauce is definitely homemade. The fish patty is of a good size. Those chips can become addictive. Shrimp taco is 100/10. The green sauce that came with the taco is spicy and good. There is definitely a good amount of shrimp on the taco. The staff was welcoming and personable. We came here to meet up with a couple of friends who live in the South Bay. I think my friend picked this place because it was a hot n new business that she wanted to try when planning dinner. I've been to this plaza a few times before, but we usually avoid it because the parking is always tight. I ordered the grill plate with salmon, rice pilaf, and steamed veggies. The food came out pretty quickly, but honestly, it looked kind of sad. I feel like California Fish Grill does a much better job, even Norms...The salmon tasted okay, but there was no real grilled flavor -- it felt more like it was baked and then had grill marks thrown on last minute. The flavor was pretty bland. I usually eat light, so that's not necessarily a problem, but since I cook salmon myself at home, I can confidently say this one missed the mark. The garlic sauce helped a little, but the grilled salmon flavor? Pretty much nonexistent. The rice pilaf was fine, but the steamed veggies were overcooked and so soft they were hard to even pick up with a fork. Overall, it was a healthy meal -- but honestly, if I wanted something like this, I'd just cook it myself. On the bright side, the service was super friendly and the restaurant was clean. Still, with so many delicious options in the area, I doubt I'll be back. This just isn't going to make my top picks. Absolutely amazing! First visit I've tried their fish burger, the fish was fresh and crispy along side the vegetables that were in it as well as the potato chips! They provide three different sauces (tartar, ranch and their green sauce) so there's plenty of flavors to explore!. The second visit I've tried their shrimp burger and I've annihilated the whole plate, the panko for the shrimp patty was amazing and the vegetables in this burger was great, especially the shredded cabbage quality reminded that of Japan's teishoku plates.
