A dive diner on the rise! Every year I come here on a family visit and enjoy their fare a couple time during the visit. The staff is friendly and the owner is often floating around d to help. I like a diner that is on the rise. They inherited from their uncle and are adding youthful energy to improving. Lots of locals with personality coming and going, families, and dads with kids. Good old-fashioned American diner. We had breakfast. It was excellent food cooked well. They had home-made sourdough toasted bread cooked from scratch. Amazing. The two sweet cream pancakes were as big as a plate. The sausages were thick and juicy. They also have Thomas Hammer coffee. It's a very nice place to eat. The service was also very friendly and responsive with coffee warm-ups. We will be back. read more

Honestly I wasn't impressed. My husband got the biscuit and gravy which he was not a fan of. The gravy was very watery and the biscuits were hard. I got the eggs Benedict, the flavor was good but the eggs weren't poached and too runny. The service was slow and they were not that busy. The building was freezing. Service: The waitress was super friendly. Ambiance: place a bit warn out. Some warped tables and torn bench cushions. Floors were nicely kept. Food: This is where stars are lost. Maybe it was an off day or the cook didn't realize the meat was bad. I ordered a French dip. The presentation was great. Lots of food on the plate. However the roast beef was spoiled. It smelled horrible. I didn't complain. I even asked for a box. Paid and left. Maybe it was me over thinking. However upon arriving home I had my oldest son look at my sandwich. He eats everything. He smelled it and confirmed the meat was rotten and it wasn't just me. I personally won't be returning to this place. Just thinking and talking about the smell of the sandwich makes me feel sick to my stomach. I hope they start checking their foods before serving them so they don't lose more customers. read more

We sort or stumbled into this place looking for a quick bite on the road. We really lucked out! Her cheeseburger was solid, and my club sandwich and fries was great, and so large I could only eat half. The second half really came in handy a couple hours down the road, though. decided to try them since the recently opened this location on the north side and will NEVER BE BACK. First off the food was very basic and not with the price being charged but the reason I'll never go back was because of how terrible the service was , when we gave the waitress the money to pay and told her to keep the change she responded back with " dont think about stealing my money from my apron " , her shoes were literally falling off her feet and her appearance looked like she just rolled out of bed. read more

Finally tried Uncle Rusty's Dinner. In a word...WOW!! Wonderful! Delicious!!!! Super friendly like dinners used to be. I had the French toast sandwich (Monte cristo in steroids) was out of this world! My husband had the Taco omelette and he said it was delicious, I didn't even get one bite lol. Today we had breakfast at Uncle Rusty's and boy was it good. Two of us had their biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns and toast. Another had eggs benedict which he was very good. My only issue was I didn't need toast on top of the biscuits and gravy. Thought I had enought bread with the biscuits. Told the waitress I didn't want anything else but she said it comes with the breakfast. They may want to change that as not everyone wants to eat a lot of dough. read more

We went to go to franks diner for breakfast on Saturday and the wait was 1.5 hours. Couldn't wait that long so went two doors down to Rusty's. The place was amazing. Great simple breakfast food. Wonderful people. Family run! No wait. They had some locals that clearly come in weekly. We will be back. Uber Eats order. I paid extra for priority delivery so it would arrive hot. My driver sat at the restaurant for 10 minutes while they were "wrapping up". The driver came straight to my house after finally getting the order. I live less than 10 minutes from the restaurant. The food was cold. The chicken fried steak was one of the worst I've ever had. More breading than steak. The hashbrowns looked like potato peelings, paper thin peelings. They were oily and somehow not cooked all the way. The gravy tasted like straight up milk. Thin, and no seasoning. Everything lacked seasoning. I've ordered other items from here before and not been unhappy, but I don't recommend the CFS breakfast. read more

It took a lot for me to come out of Yelp retirement to write a review, but this place did it. Immediately upon exiting my vehicle, my life may have been threatened by a bum telling me he was going to "fucking kill me". That should've been a red flag. Said bum proceeded to prowl around the druggie looking motel next door, yelling various threats to anyone in the vicinity. Now about the restaurant. When came in on a Friday early afternoon for lunch. There was one other party of two. We were seated immediately, and then waited for a very long time time to get menus, drinks, etc. After we were sat, another gentlemen came in solo, was also seated. While waiting to give our order, we noticed he already put his in, and another party of 8 were shown to their seat. This proceeded for 15-20 minutes until it was clear we were either being completely ignored or forgotten about. Finally, after seeing these two other parties (one guy, group of 8) get their food served, I had had enough. We finally go tour order in. The waitress seemed to not understand that this wasn't good, but I get it these things happen. We then waited close to 45 more minutes to get our food. During which we had been told a "couple more minutes" many times. To make a long story short. My kid had the chicken burger/sandwich. I kid you not, she picked that thing up, and ounce and ounces of fluid poured out of the burger.It reminded of a Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares episode. On top of that there was a very long hair in my wife's food, all I could do is laugh at this point. Since we were on a road trip and were there over an hour, I decided it was probably a good idea to use the restroom. GROSS. If a restroom is nasty, I can assume other parts of the place are nasty too. To be fair our waitress finally realized how much she/they screwed up and did take off a solid 33% of the bill. Aside from the exterior look, the ambiance is no different than any other place. With a few, quick-fix renovations and inexpensive renovations, the outside and inside could definitely attract a busier crowd. My dad wanted to try this place and the cable car diner across the street. Sometimes we may just do that though specifically about the food here... It is GREAT. The food is superb, if not amazing. On a trip to visit family and friends, this was one of two places that I was overall impressed by. So, don't feel foolish thinking this place may be look a little-bit run-down. I haven't been in this building in a few decades . . . it used to be a semi-regular night spot for us when it was a Denny's and we needed a late nosh . . . And a few years ago is was a Jenny's. Now, Uncle Rusty's. Well, the seats look the same but the tables are new. A quite place mid morning, so we ordered and got food quickly (a few to-go orders popped up pretty quickly afterwards and a man and his girls came in too. Waffle and Hash Browns for me . . . the hash browns were outstanding and the waffle was very good as well. Scott had a combo and also raved about the hash browns; a hint of pepper, very little salt, just to my taste! Looks a little like a dive, but it's an older building, so . . . Hope the new ownership makes a go of it because I am adding this place to our breakfast rotation! read more

Personification of the 'A-Ok, 3-star Yelp review' in my book. And granted, they have to do it with two hospitality hands tied behind their back. Hand one....it's a very beat down ancient facility, that may have been modern in the 1960s, but will never be clean enough in the eyes of many. Hand two...the single most overrated place in the metro, that is a mecca to all the middle-aged hipsters and bamboozled tourists to the city, right across the street (all patiently waiting an hour to be seated as they stare down at their phones). I was in the area, I wanted diner food, I wanted it quick, and I wanted it to be more than I could eat. The food was fine, and all squares were filled. Very, very nice staff in there, and they will engage you in conversation, whether your are looking for it, or not. Can't say I'll ever be back, but I had to try them. Just like I had to try them when it was Jenny's Diner...or 2nd Ave Grill...or Rooster's Cafe...or, whatever else the place has been called in the last 30 years. It's a tough place to make it. I feel 1 star is accurate. We ordered to go from DoorDash and pricing, and timing of delivery were perfect! I get this CFS and I get this at every place I order breakfast from, this thing is harder than a hockey puck! And the gravy is this wet, milky looking liquid wouldn't even call it gravy sitting on top and in a Poole around the steak. The potatoes were barely yellow and still HARD, toast wet and soggy. I mean some of this is to be expected on delivery but I didn't even eat any of this but one bite of the CFS. Very disappointing when I was just trying to support a new local business and I call them first to ask about this meal and they go "you can bring it back and we can remake it" okay... yeah let me do that FOR YOU. If I could give a zero stars I would. To start the booth we were sat in needed a good clean we felt gross just sitting in said booth. Then our food came and the biscuits and gravy were rock hard and had HAIR in it. The hash browns were soggy and tasted like they were made in a microwave. To end our dinning experience our server TOOK HER SHOE OFF at our table and walked away with one shoe came back put her shoe on and continued to serve other customers WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS. The whole experience food and the workers was awful. And then after we left we made it 5 miles down the road and we had to pull over and throw up because of how the food made us feel. read more

food was amazing. a good size plate. me and my boyfriend could both only eat half. we were staying in spokane on thanksgiving after a concert, and found this to be almost the only place open for breakfast. hollandaise is made in house, it's so good. and the hash browns? made in house and freshly shredded and onto the flat top, i've never had hashbrowns like these. service was good, at first we had one server, but as it started to fill up with locals we had 3 different servers come to check on us and fill our waters. i'm so glad we got to eat here thanksgiving morning. read more
