Uncle Tetsu serves delicious authentic Japanese cheesecakes. We tried the original milk and Oreo flavors. The texture is consistent and fluffy and you can taste the quality. The cakes are not large but we were able to cut them comfortably into 8 piece slices to serve our group. I really liked the Oreo flavor cheesecake and would definitely get it again. I love this place! I think we've tried almost everything on the menu. The Oreo cheesecake, ube cheesecake, mousse au chocolat, and burnt basque but my favorite is their original fluffy cheesecake. The black sesame cheesecake had an odd taste. Good black sesame flavor and fluffy texture but somehow the mixture between cheese and black sesame made it taste strange. This is a review for my visit back in March of this year. I was coming out of the Vinh Hoa Hong after buying some winter herbal essentials when I chanced upon this small shop with a big red sign and a cute Japanese drawing of a bespectacled balding man. A "Now Open" banner invitingly waves at me together with the aroma of freshly baked cheesecake. How could I resist? I allowed my desires take over and ordered a Burnt Basque, took it back to my car and ate a small slice. Beneath that gorgeous burnt exterior lies a creamy, custard-like interior that's almost impossibly rich and decadent. This indulgent dessert will pair perfectly with whatever I'm having for dinner" I thought. This place is very small inside and had no chairs. Quick service and simple. I wanted to try the pandan coconut and im glad I got it! The fluffiest and softest cake ever! Its like a souffle not a cheesecake. For me, I much prefer an American original cheesecake made with Philadelphia cream cheese. This pandan coconut cake was one of the best cakes I've had! Its semi sweet leaning towards bland side but with the shaved coconut, it added the sweetness it needed! A marvelous cake!!! Also for a slice its only 11-16g of carbs. Worth 14$. I also got the ube cookies. This was a bit too sweet for me. I only took a bite of that. I can never have too much of sweets. My sugar will spike so high. Since I don't take insulin or medications for my diabetes bc I've kept it under control through water fasting/exercise/0 carb life style, this cake is of the lesser evil and I appreciate it! I could have eaten the entire cake! But self control! Hehe Will be coming again next month. I can only cheat once every two weeks and next week im at my third home and love, vegas! so I have to save my cheat days for that! Lol! I'll be back to uncle tetsu for sure! read more

Awesome San Diego got an Uncle Tetsu - they have amazing fluffy Japanese cheesecakes in a variety of flavors like pandan-coconut, ube, strawberry, chocolate, coffee, cookies and cream, and more, and special burnt basque cheesecakes (in normal and cookies and cream flavors) that have caramelized tops and custard centers flavored like vanilla or lemon. Moreover, they sell smaller Hokkaido specialty cheese tarts - double-baked crusts with cheese mousse inside - in original, chocolate, matcha and ube flavors as well as cookies in matcha, ube and ube crumble flavors. Prompt and attentive service, especially if you order ahead on the site or app, and cozy interior where you can purchase a variety of beverages (designed for just pick up, and there is a convenient parking spot out front where you can park to pick up the goods). My partner and I have been on a pandan hunt for MONTHS. When we saw there was a bakery nearby where we were staying in SD, we had to stop by! We got the pandan cheesecake for $14. It didn't taste like cheesecake to me, it was more spongy like a flour cake. It was also topped with coconut flakes, which aren't my favorite but this place still hit the spot. read more

Clean store, walk up counter to order to go. We were greeted immediately and the man helping us was extremely patient since we had no idea what we wanted. The cheesecake was not as creamy as I had expected. The plain cheesecake was very similar to a sponge or angel food cake. The 'burnt' cheesecake was a little more creamy. Both were good. The tarts were tasty and the cookies were very cake-like and did not have as much flavor as I had hoped. Still worth trying though! read more

My cousin was in town, so of course we had to do a mini foodie tour. We passed by this place and my cousin "YELPED" in joy. According to her, it is quite tasty. The place was not busy. It is a very small storefront. What I did like is that it was very clean. I am not sure if it is because it's new but anyhow it was clean and no obnoxious odors noted. The cashier was pretty much indifferent. It was actually kind of hard to get her to smile. It's OK their products speak volumes over their customer service. We opted for one of their individual sized cheesecakes and some Ube crumble cookies. Since it's the new year, we were sharing you know for weight loss purposes (wink). Phenomenal! I would give them five out of five stars, but the pricing seemed ridiculous for the portions. read more

Can't go wrong with Japanese cheesecake. I'm sure it would have been even more delicious if it was freshly baked but the ones we got have been sitting out and settled. Kiddos got their chocolate fixed with a box of the double chocolate cookies (3 cookies for $7) went well with a cup of ice cold milk. In and out kinda spot. read more

Japanese cheesecake, much different than the American style cheesecake which are heavy in cheese. Uncle Tetsu's cheesecakes are much more fluffy and airy like a French souffle. They have multiple flavors you can choose from, I particularly like the Pandan Coconut Cheesecake. If you have never tried Uncle Tetsu cheesecakes, recommend starting with the Original Cheesecake. I'm not a huge fan of the Cookies & Cream Cheesecake, it felt like the original with just some cookie chunks inside; I was expecting a much more Cookies & Cream flavor throughout the cheesecake. I also enjoy the Ube Cheesecake, but the Pandan Coconut more! read more

Uncle Tetsu is known for its original signature cheesecake, which is a world famous staple. The cheesecake is baked fresh daily and is best enjoyed warm, when it's soft and fluffy. I am so glad that they opened up here in San Diego! We love all their flavors but always have to get one of their original ones. Their lychee flavor is so good but not every store has it. Super unique dessert place that you need to try to believe. The Japanese style cheesecake is lighter than a standard cheesecake but to me it's a good thing (no gut bomb feeling afterward). They also have some interesting flavors to try. We have come here a few times and the staff are friendly and helpful. Also have a frequent visitor stamp card going - I think it's 10 stamps gets you a free cheesecake. Parking is a little difficult in the stripmall, but they have their own 2 reserved spots for Tetsu in front of the business. read more

It's a cute shop with lots of delicious baked options from biscotti to multiple sizes of Japanese style cheesecakes. Good quality cakes with pretty reasonable pricing ($13), perfect to bring to parties or to just enjoy at home! Ordering online was pretty easy, though it doesn't allow you to choose a time for later (only ASAP). I called them right after placing the order to change the time for pick up and they were accomodating. The inside is pretty small, perfect for just pick ups with no seating available. Depending on the time you go, parking can be a mess especially in that plaza but if you're just picking up, it shouldn't be too bad. I've now tried their Original, Pandan, Ube, Oreo, and Coffee cakes and I would say my favorites are the Oreo and Ube. The cakes are light, fluffy, and aren't too sweet. Will definitely order more cakes from them! read more

Uncle Tetsu offers the lighter Japanese cheesecake in a multitude of flavors. They don't have any inside seating which suits the cramped and bustling parking lot. Each item was packed nicely and the baked goods were visible from the entrance. I found the traditional Japanese cheesecake to be priced fairly but the basque wasn't worth twice the price. Cheese tarts were also purchasable individually. =ORDERED= *Pandan Coconut Cheesecake: incredibly moist and soft. The pandan flavor was subtle and the cake wasn't overly sweet. The cake was easily shared between a family. *Basque Cake: so tart. The filling was very sour which overwhelmed any sweetness or char from the exterior. The texture was a bit chunky, almost overdone. I wouldn't mind paying $23 for a good basque cake but this wasn't tasty. *Cheese Tart: the filling was sweet and creamy but the cookie exterior was hard. The crust was also very sweet so one tart was more than enough. I would have preferred a flakey crust though. I would stick to their Japanese cheesecake as the quality was superb for the price. However the other desserts weren't extraordinary compared to other bakeries. read more

Uncle Tetsu in Convoy is always consistent in their food. The ambiance is fun, simple, and inviting. The service is quick and the workers are friendly. The cheesecakes are very light and fluffy which is very different from traditional cheesecakes. The Oreo cheesecake is my favorite one. The taste is very true to its description. I do wish the mini ones had the Oreo piece on top. The seasonal flavor was Smore's which was so yum but didn't had little to no chocolate that smores have. This is the best cheese tart I have had in my life. I do prefer Japanese style cheesecake to western cheesecake in the first place, but even among the Japanese cheesecakes and tarts I've had, ever, these are the best. Oh my goodness, the original cheesecake is everything we've been craving and looking for since our trip to Japan. We love Japanese cheesecake and this really hit the spot. It was so fluffy and delicious. They make everything in house. There's not really a place for you to sit so it's pretty much a grab and go. It's in the heart of convoy so parking is tough as well. We stopped by Uncle Tetsu's to try out some of the cheesecake and loved the taste! The cheesecake is light and fluffy without being too mushy, and the ube flavor was light and subtle. We also got a combo of the small cheesecakes and those were also very tasty with subtle flavors. These desserts are the perfect "not too sweet" treats. If you do stop by, you're mainly there for pickup. There isn't much space to sit besides possibly outside. Service is fairly quick and you can see the bakers at work with the cheesecakes coming out fresh. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend dropping by! read more

Glad to see we finally got an Uncle Tetsu down in San Diego! If you've never had Japanese cheesecake before, it's very different from regular cheesecake so just something to be aware of...it's much lighter and fluffier, and less sweet. It's a tiny store with no seating, and just enough space for a few people so I can see the line spilling outside if it's busy. The cheesecakes are already made though, so once you order and pay, they just box it up for you immediately and you're out the door within a minute or so. I've tried their Pandan Coconut and Matcha flavors so far, and both were delicious! The texture is so fluffy and leaves me dying for more. Parking can be a mess in the lot as expected with Convoy businesses, but there's always street parking. Will definitely return to try their other flavors!! read more

Before the…read moredessert, the gentleman that rang me up, and the lady packing the desserts (apologies for not getting names) provided exceptional service. My name was spelled properly, a short conversation reassured my dessert choice, and as I walked up to retrieve my dessert, the lady met me halfway with a smile (thank you for wrapping so it didn't fall over). The smallest of gestures and niceties are what make leaving the house worth it. GIANDUIA. This cake is nothing you can be prepared for, yet everything you need without setting expectations. The boysenberry was the perfect separation for the waves of chocolate and the subtle crunch of the hazelnut toffee type of layer on the very top. The chocolate mousse was the exact mouth feel needed to separate the rich layers of chocolate cake. I saw, I conquered, and I was yet again impressed by what Extraordinary Desserts so purposefully and gracefully offered. Thank you for healing a bit of my soul I didn't realize was waiting to be healed.

One would think that, in such dark times, one could still find even a glimpse of hope in an ice cream cone. I was proven wrong, and my outlook on the current state of affairs only dimmed further. I ate my ice cream in two bites. Twenty dollars for two cones, four bites total. I didn't even bother feeding my son the pup cup. He deserves better. The world deserves better. Bigger portions. Bigger smiles. Makes perfect sense, in my humble opinion. I suppose your employees do not agree.

The latte was good, and my friend bought a kitchen sink type cookie with chocolate, coconut, and macadamia nuts. It was warm and gooey good! Another friend tried the gelato and said it was very good. There are a few tables inside and tables out in front outside. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful San Diego weather. The decor and tables definitely gives you an old school Italian neighborhood vibe with Italian markets right next door. If I am in the neighborhood again, I would definitely come back here to try the gelato and/or a piece of an excellent looking lemon pie bar I spotted.

It was later in the day so they were out of or running low on some flavors. Nevertheless, the two flavors we tried were incredibly rich and flavorful. A little goes a very long way. Parking is incredibly tough in Little Italy but it is worth it for gelato this good.
