Found this cute Japanese Cheesecake shop while walking all through Del Amo Mall today. Oh my gosh!!! I had the original JAPANESE-style cheesecake and it was absolutely delicious! Very airy, light and melts in your mouth. Not at all like the heavier American cheesecakes. You really have to try it once and you'll be hooked! Service was gracious. Shop right off the mall walks very clean.

Located inside Del Amo mall on second floor. Was craving a small bite sized dessert. Saw this place on Yelp and came. Got an OG cheesecake tart, was whatever....$4.50. Wasn't a huge fan:( it tasted real generic

This spot is located inside the DEL AMO FASHION CENTER on the 2nd floor near Din Tai Fung. I wanted to try their cheesecake but they only sell them as a whole cake. So i tried something else which was their ube cheese tart and this was delightful and creamy the ube was not overpowering either nice balance i actually enjoyed this one its a perfect size to snack on while you walk around. Next time i have a function I'll give their cheesecake a whirl I recommend

Such a fun and unique dessert experience! This Japanese dessert spot really stands out with its beautiful presentation and delicate flavors. Everything feels thoughtfully made, from the light and fluffy pastries to the perfectly balanced sweetness that Japanese desserts are known for. The textures are incredible--soft, creamy, and melt-in-your-mouth. Whether it's mochi, matcha treats, or fluffy cakes, nothing feels overly heavy or sugary, which makes it easy to try a few different things. The shop itself has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, and the desserts almost look too pretty to eat. If you're looking for something a little different from the typical dessert shop, this is definitely a place worth visiting.

I live very far from Uncle Tetsu locations in SoCal so when I had the chance to be at Del Amo mall I made sure to buy it. My kids really loved the cookies and cream cheesecake. We also tried the seasonal mango basque cheesecake, it was very flavorful, you can def taste the mango flavor. The cheesecakes are a bit pricey but it's worth the splurge once in awhile!

This is the second time trying Uncle Tetsu. First time we had it was in Arcadia at the Santa Anita Mall. We thought it was just ok then and feel the same way today. It just isn't great to us. Yes it was light and fluffy, but it's just ok. We ordered the Burnt Basque Cheesecake and it was unimpressive especially for the $25 price tag. It's going to be very hard to give it a try again.

The fluffy cheesecakes here are a classic, but I wanted to try something new and opted for the Basque Cheesecake. We wanted to try the Cookies and Cream one, but I think they ran out since we came closer to closing. I didn't realize it had a lemon taste to it, honestly not my favorite out of all of the options. I prefer their normal fluffy cheesecakes! ig: @cravingswithcat

Located on the 2nd level inside the Del Amo mall. They have some good Japanese fluffy cheesecakes. I've had the regular one many times. I did get a strawberry one today for a dinner party with Friends tonight. They do have a few different flavors and they were all available as well. The service was fast since it was already made and available. Overall this place has good Japanese cheesecakes.

I loooove japanese style cheesecake. Its not everybody's cup of tea as people expect cheesecake to be creamy and rich. Japanese style "fluffy" cheesecake is more subtle airy, and I am here for it. Ive had their strawberry as well. Their little tarts are yummy, had the Matcha last time I was there. Its located inside Del Amo almost next to Din Tai.

I was at the mall with my family and spotted Uncle Tetsu. Since it was after lunch and I wanted something sweet, I decided to pick up a few things for myself and my family. After looking through the offerings, I decided on the basque cheesecake (my brother had been wanting to try this), the pandan cheesecake and some ube cookies. Service was quick and friendly and I got my order quickly. When we got home, I opened up the two cheesecake and decided to have a small piece of each. The basque cheesecake was dense, but also had a very soft center - so much so that I was afraid it wasn't fully cooked. After carefully inspecting it and researching online, I guess it was supposed to be that way. I deemed it safe to eat and continued with my treat. Overall, the basque cheesecake wasn't what I was expecting. Its flavors were fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again. The pandan cheesecake was light and fluffy with a good hint of pandan. My favorites were the ube cookies - I liked them a lot more than I expected to. They were soft and full of melt in your mouth ube. I will definitely get more of these the next time I'm in the area.

Was craving uncle tetsu and really enjoyed the cheesecake tart but decided to try all of them and ended up grabbing an original cheesecake and Ube cheesecake. Is it bad that I can eat an entire cheesecake and one sitting and not feel bad about it??? The original and strawberry tart was my favorite , my least favorite was actually the matcha (very green tea like) but still good! Just prefer the creamy decadent flavor over a bitter tea flavor? The seasonal one was pretty good too, but the original and strawberry definitely stand out. ube cheesecake was good! Definitely will get it again but I prefer original. I literally finished two cheesecakes in one week and the tarts in one sitting haha Service was prompt and super nice!

A spot in Del Amo mall selling japanese cheesecakes on the 2nd floor by Din Tai Fung. They have a wide variety of cheesecake flavors such as original, ube, pandan coconut, and smores as a seasonal flavor. They also have tarts and madeleines. I tried their ube which had a nice mild ube flavor. For first timers, I suggest just getting the the original flavor.

We split the cake into 4, but you can eat the whole thing--we aren't judging. :-)
Maria E.

How best to describe it...if you've had a Filipino Mamon, it has that texture, but creamier or if you're familiar with a sponge cake, it is along those lines, but again, creamier. Specifically, Uncle Tetsu's Japanese Cheesecake is spongy yet creamy & flavorful. I found myself savoring the texture and the mild taste...like the Asian stamp of approval for any dessert, "not too sweet". It's pretty much a "to go" location with no specific seating for their location so if you're interested in eating it right away, you'll just have to find a table or bench at the Mall, which is easy enough depending on how crowded the timing is. If this type of dessert sounds appealing, I recommend this spot...if I find myself craving it, I'll be seeking it here.

Ask the Community - Uncle Tetsu

Is this location open on Christmas Eve?

I called the store and they are open on Christmas Eve. The Del Amo mall is open 7am to 6pm on Christmas Eve. Uncle Tetsu phone number is 323-275-9190. I don't know if you need to pre-order due to the holidays but I would call before hand.

I've been calling for a few days but only get an automated 'we can't answer the phone' deal when they are open. Do they have the correct phone number listed? It says to call ahead but if they don't answer I'm not sure how that is possible.

Hi Elle, our phone number is 323-275-9190 If you have any further questions, feel free to DM us on…

Are they open now? Tried calling and only go machine and then got hung up on

They are open but for curbside pickup only. You have to order online and then call them to bring it to the curbside pickup zones (tell them your stall #)…

How long does the cake last?

They recommend finish the cake within 1 day, and should last about 3 days in the fridge!

Is it 9.80 for a slice or for a whole cheesecake?

They raised their prices. It is now $10.80 less tax and the burnt basque is $19.80 and the 4 cheese tarts are $14.00

How much does it cost for cheesecake?

It costs $9.80.

Do they have the coffee flavor cheesecake, too?

Yes. They have it starting this week. Just got one today.

When is this store going to open? Del Amo's website says they're already open for business, but when I swing by the store, it's still boarded up.

Was at Del Amo earlier today and they're open!

When are they going to open? I thought they're going to open on November 29th?

They just opened today

We were seated immediately with no wait during dinner time, and there's a large free parking lot, so getting in and out was hassle-free. The skewers were good overall, but one thing to note is that they don't have that smoky, charcoal-grilled flavor. If you're expecting a traditional yakitori experience, just keep that in mind. What we ordered: - Momo Kizokuyaki - 7/10 A classic choice. The chicken was juicy and cooked well, but it leaned a little under-seasoned, so it didn't leave much of a lasting impression. - Teba - 6/10 Chicken was kinda dry but seasoning was good. - Harami Beef - 7/10 The beef was tender and cooked nicely, but it also lacked a bit of seasoning. Good texture, just missing that extra punch of flavor that would've made it memorable. - Karaage - 8/10 My favorite dish of the meal. The portion size was just right, and the chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and well-seasoned throughout. - Soboro Don - 8/10 This reminded me of an elevated Yoshinoya beef bowl--in the best way. It had richer flavors, better-quality ingredients, and the fresh ginger added a bright, flavorful contrast that tied everything together. Beyond the food, the service really stood out. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, respectful, and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant was also spotless, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I'd definitely come back. While a couple of the skewers could use a little more seasoning and that signature smoky flavor, the friendly service, clean atmosphere, easy parking, and solid food make this a spot that's worth checking out.

Throughout the meal, IYA made us feel incredibly unwelcome, constantly rushing us and giving us dirty looks. Even though we were well aware of the time, she aggressively pushed the dessert menu and called for "last call" at 6:00 PM just to kick us out faster. When we politely asked for extra broth, she snapped that there would be an extra charge with a terrible attitude, then literally slammed the dish down on our table. The absolute worst part was her handling of my Service Dog. As someone who legally requires a service animal, I had my dog right next to me. Without even asking if it was a registered service animal, IYA rudely and aggressively demanded that I put the dog on the floor. Her complete lack of education, empathy, and legal understanding regarding service animals is deeply concerning and discriminatory. The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.
