Gluten Intolerant? Don't eat here. Although the menu says that they can make most things on the menu gluten-free, there is no guarantee that they actually will. I ordered 7 items with very clear instruction that all of them needed to be gluten free. One of them arrived not as ordered. It had ingredients from two different dishes that I ordered, but the biggest issue is that it wasn't gluten free and they did not tell us this until later in the meal. And they did not apologize or offer any kind of reparation. In fact, they made a really big stink about us paying for that dish even though we did not eat it after they remade it without gluten and with the correct ingredients. It tasted Dreadful and we could not eat it. I couldn't believe they would make such a fuss over an $8 item especially after they had made such a serious mistake. I so wanted to like this place as it's very close and convenient for us. It is, however, one of, if not THE worst Chinese food I've eaten. Bland and tasteless. That said, the vegetables were fresh and properly cooked but there was absolutely NO flavor there. The service was good, the help quite friendly, and the food arrived in a timely manner. Ordered delivery for the first time after having a mediocre dine in experience many years ago, just to give it a second try. Our food was delicious! The order took about 45 mins to get here, and everything was piping hot and tasty. We had combination fried rice, wor wonton soup, sweet and soup pork, veggie spring rolls and broccoli beef. Everything was freshly prepared, well seasoned and hot. The wonton soup was great too, with a generous portion of prawns and flavorful dumplings mixed with fresh greens and a yummy broth. Uncle Wing is my local San Rafael chinese food destination... Why, you ask? Because it's conveniently located off the main bustle of 4th street on B street. There's never a problem with parking. I mean there's even City Park on the same block. The food is a good variety of standard chinese with some cantonese specialties at reasonable prices. And it has a laid back comfortable vibe. So when I first came here solo, I needed a quick and relaxing lunch time dining experience and this place delivered. The decor is understated chinese wall papering and table seating in the main room. There also is an extra dining room up a ramp with larger circular tables.. I noticed a little burning candle offering to buddha behind the wait stand. These waitresses are balanced souls offering tasty inexpensive lunch specials. I decided on the Lemon Chicken, which was an off the menu special offer from the waitress.. It came with a couple wontons on top of the rice, and a little sweet sauce. She also threw in a couple more wontons on the house, after I quickly chumped down the first two. The hot and sour soup was good and the meal was large.. Of course I was hungry again three hours after eating.. But that's typical after eating chinese food. I also noticed the other waitress at the table behind me preparing freshly folded wontons.. I asked her what she was preparing. I was excited to drive by a Chinese restaurant that serves Mandarin and Szechuan cuisine not too far from home so I went in and got a menu and returned that night for take out. Really disappointing food. The General Chicken was somewhat soggy, not crisp at all and no spice even though it says (and normally is at other places) a little spicy due to the peppers. The Mu Shu chicken was bland and sitting in liquid. They only give you a thimble sized container of plum sauce for 3 pancakes. The egg rolls had no taste. We didn't even try the Wonton soup . Won't be having the rest for tomorrow's lunch which I was planning on. Threw the rest away. Sadly, won't be going back. read more

I was hesitant to try this place a few years ago, simply because every time we happened to walk by, there's typically only about 4-5 people in there; I immediately assumed that it was no good. But I was mistaken. One night my husband had a craving for Chinese, and since this was the closest place to our house, we gave it a go....and we've been going on a regular basis ever since! The staff is super friendly, the atmosphere is a little on the quiet side most of the time, but that's cool....cuz the food is EXCELLENT! My go-to is the steamed fish with ginger and scallions, coupled with their mushroom & bokchoy veggie dish. Of course we always start our meal off with the crab rangoons. The wonton soup is also excellent...your tummy will thank you. Mmmm it's so good! The phone rings off the hook for delivery and pick-up, which I'm grateful for - it means they'll be around for a good while! But...perhaps if they update their decor a little bit, maybe it'll prompt more people to actually eat in. Wishful thinking! Uncle Wing's serves the BEST Chinese Food in Marin, Period!!!!! As someone who was raised in the Sunset District in SF, I like to think I'm pretty much an expert! You taste the LOVE that goes into EVERY dish here!!!! I have been going here for over a decade & it is consistently fresh & amazing! The Roasted Duck is my absolute favorite!!!! They even put my OTHER favorite dish on the menu, after I ordered it so many times- the Eggplant with Fried Tofu in Garlic Sauce!!!!!! Sooooo gooood!!!! I went in last night for the first time in a while & still as good as always!!!! They also have amazing Homemade Dim Sum, which I am going to go back for soon!!! One of my coworkers was craving chinese food for lunch, so I got on Yelp and found a close, inexpensive Chinese place that delivers: Enter Uncle Wing. I really, deeply appreciate how clear their website is. For a new customer, it was a dream come true. The menu was all there and easy to navigate. They do have a $25 delivery minimum but if you get a few people together it's not hard to get there. Two of us ordered lunch specials and I got the beef chow fun. The food came quickly and unlike some places who stiff you if you order delivery, they included the soup with the lunch specials. For $7, there was a TON of food (and ALL of their lunch specials are between $6.25 and $7). I pay $11 for chow fun in Daly City that's not nearly as good as Uncle Wing's. Everyone was really impressed with their order. I also thought that the chow fun was really flavorful, and didn't require any kind of soy sauce assistance for happy eating. Overall, ordering lunch (I love places that make lunch deliveries!) was a BIG win for our office. We may have to make this a habit! read more

This review is for atrocious non-delivery to an address in San Rafael maybe 10 minutes from the restaurant. After ordering delivery we were quote a 50-60 minute delivery time. It's a Saturday night and it's Marin, so whatever. Fine. 75 minutes later we place a call to the restaurant and are told "it was delivered and the driver has been back for a long time". No food was delivered to our house. "It was signed for" Well ... it wasn't signed for by us. "We'll call you right back". Ten minutes later we are told "the driver isn't picking up, we will start a new order for you right now". No thanks. We're now 90 minutes past the original order point and it's no longer of interest to wait for this. Quite disappointing and inexcusable. read more

This is by far my favorite restaurant in San Rafael. I was usually not a huge fan of Chinese food until stopping by here one evening -been hooked for the last few years. Salt and Pepper chicken/prawns/fish, Hot Braised Beef, Mongolian three combo and their Chow mein/fun are some personal favorites. They have great vegetarian options as well as having a gluten-free frier, which is great for when with our friends who suffer from celiac disease. The owner is so sweet and takes great care of us every time. Great ambiance which is usually lacking in most Chinese restaurants. Super clean all around and they have the cutest lighting that hangs from the ceiling. This place is at least a once/week tradition for my friends and I. read more

I came a little early and had to wait but the order was made on time and before it was handed to me, the owner, I think double checked it to make sure everything was there! The salt and pepper calamari I got wasn't greasy and tasted really good. As far as Chinese food goes, this did not top the list. The veg spring rolls had something very untasted in them that rendered them in edible to both myself and my son. Dumplings were gummy. The service was great and they even spoke with my stepdaughter in Mandarin, so she was able to practice, and learn a little more! Just had take out- the chicken with vegetables and broccoli with lamb. It was light, fresh and cooked to a perfect crispness. The portions were large for the price. Overall it was a decent meal and I didn't have to cook. Both dishes were extremely plain. They lacked flavor and complexity. I will try this place again because of the pros mentioned above, but if the dishes I order are again blasé it will be my last meal here. There is nothing I don't like about this place. Friendly folks, extensive menu and delicious food with fresh ingredients. I have not had a meal in the restaurant yet but often have lunches delivered to work or take home dinners. This is the kind of place where I crave a dish but end up ordering much more than I can eat. Their food makes great leftovers. As a vegetarian and I very pleased with the meatless options and attention paid to the quality of the vegetables. Sauces are light with out being watery. Too many Chinese meals have been ruined my pasty, thick sauces that are overly salted. You like salt? Well than the fried asparagus is for you. This is a dish that should be salty and it is amazing. Lightly breaded and quick fried. Sometimes they have a green bean version too. Plus, this is one of the few places that consistently offer Egg Foo Young. The dish here is also light, not oily, and has a great sauce that never tastes as though it has been sitting around too long. read more

I came to Uncle Wings restaurant to order a nice lunch for my friends and myself. I placed a to-go order and took a seat to wait. My seat had a view into the kitchen, so I sat and watched. I was pretty horrified by what I saw, it was pretty much stereotypical "Chinese restaurant" which horrifies me. By the time my food was ready I was not in the mood to eat. I was also asked if I needed utensils, and I said yes but sadly when I had already left & driven away I noticed they had only given me ONE fork and NO napkins & NO spoons for the soup I had ordered. Tried this place for lunch this week. I had the beef chow fun dry style. The serving size was OK but the flavor was flat. What was unusual and made this dish such a low rating was that there was cabbage in this dish. When you have this dish at a Cantonese restaurant it does NOT have cabbage in it. I don't know where that came from. Also this dish did not have the traditional required wok aroma. Chinese people will know what this is. The table next to me had the lunch special but could not have white rice. What Chinese restaurant cannot have white rice? I ordered the special dinner for two, which consisted of (2) crab puffs, (2) fried shrimp, orange chicken, Mongolian beef, sizzling rice soup and steamed rice plus fortune cookies. The flavor was decent and there was a good amount of food, but the issue I had was with the Mongolian beef which was mostly scallions and white onions than anything else.
