I had been to the store for basic alterations in the past, and have been thrilled with the work every time, but this most recent appointment really exceeded my expectations. I had accidentally bought a pair of overalls a size too big, and wasn't able to return for the correct size -- I went to Uncommon Closet with what I thought was an out-there idea to cut the legs off and turn the overalls into a mini dress, and the tailors at the store were equally excited to try things out and make the idea a reality. Korri and their team were SO great to work with. I'd been there before to fix a zipper on my winter coat (for only $10?!) so I knew I wanted to go back when I got my wedding dress. I wanted them to remove the train from my dress since I wanted to wear it all night and be able to dance in it without bustling an already bulky dress. They also shortened the straps on my shoulders and added cups. The environment is so fun, everyone on the team is so nice and encouraging, you can tell they all enjoy their jobs and each other. This has taken me a long time to post but I feel its finally time. I needed a place to for the alterations on my wedding dress. I did a lot of research and really liked the vibe of this place so I made my appointment. On my first appointment I brought my dress and my shoes and my bra on 7/14/18. She took all the measurements and laid out a time line of fitting and when thing would be done. My wedding was on 9/28/18, I took my unfinished dress away from her on the 20th. 9 days before my wedding because I knew she would not be done with it on time. Every time I went there she had some new reason as to why my dress was not done or what was going on with it. Bottom line she took on way more than she could handle with my wedding dress and just didn't want to lose a customer or the money but in the end she wound up losing both. Thankfully I was able to fine a fantastic place that could repair all the damage she did, except the hem, and have my beautiful dress ready in time for my wedding. As you can see in the pics there were stains on my dress. There were loose threads and beading all over the top. One strap had no beading at all. The belt was not attached to the dress. There were quit a few holes in the train of the dress. The hem of the dress was way to short and this was all 9 days before my wedding and the dress still had to be cleaned. All and all my dress and my wedding was perfect, no thanks to her! read more

We were working on a tight deadline for my Vegas elopement, and they delivered. We squeezed in a few fittings over the course of a month, and they worked their magic. I felt so comfortable with the team - and they walked me through everything. They also played some pretty great throwback jams over the speakers. Pricing was fair and transparent, and they had several payment options including Venmo which came in handy when the chip in my card refused to be read. I have been looking around for a tailor for some of my pants, and jackets. Walked over but it mentioned on the door it is appointment only (totally understandable) I gave the Uncommon Closet team a call set an appointment to bring my North Face Denali Jacket (fix a hole in pocket) and my 5.11 Stryke Pants (hem) Julia was very helpful I was in and out in a flash for the first appointment. Kate is wonderful. I went to her specifically because of her LGBTQA-friendly space. I had a suit jacket I wanted altered, but not fitted like a traditional woman's top. I wasn't sure if I could trust other tailors to alter it based on how I wanted to present myself. Kate is very down-to-earth and open to feedback which makes her fantastic to work with, making the process much less self-conscious than I've had at previous alteration shops. I called earlier today in a panic, as I'm heading to Oktoberfest next week and ripped my drindl (authentic German dress) when trying it on over my giant bazoombas today. I cannot rave enough about the quality service you receive at Uncommon Closet for alterations! I needed to have my Covid wedding jumpsuit altered and I assumed it would just be an easy hem and cinch in the waist. Because of the way it was constructed, it had to be almost completely taken apart and resewn back together. Any bride would be a but nervous about this, but they made it back better than it ever was. I was so impressed with their dedication to get it perfect for me and spared no length. When I took it home they said I would need to dry clean it to get some of the alterations mark at. So I did. Unfortunately, the dry cleaner couldn't and the jumpsuit was noticeably stained in multiple places. I contacted Korri about the problem and they immediately responded to resolve the issue. Again, they went above and beyond. They were able to remove the stains and even sent it off to their dry cleaner who dropped it off perfectly fixed at my home. They paid for all the cleaning and extra service. I respect their dedication to their customer and would use again. Also, just an added bonus they have great playlists going when you go in to get your alterations done. read more
