The food is reliable (I usually get the veggie scramble with gluten free toast), the coffee is good, portions are large, and their specials are unique and tasty. I found this place last December, and I can honestly say that since that time, I can be found there almost every weekend. The place is jam packed but its worth the wait, the cooks are amazing and the specials are even better. The Uncommonly Scrambled All Veggie with egg whites is to die for, add a little boursin cheese (hey, you went with egg whites right?) and you're in heaven. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself. The sweetest family owns this local spot and they couldn't be nicer to their customers either. They know so many by name, and they treat their staff really good too. I jus LOVE LOVE LOVE Uncommon Grounds and have been going there at least once a week since I discovered it a few years back. Their chefs are amazing and the specials are like nothing else you will find at a breakfast "joint". They also have wonderful coffee drinks that are unique to the restaurant. Best breakfast ever- try their different scrambles! they'll put anything you want in it- and best of all- they do egg white scrambles! Uncommon grounds in Watertown, on Mt. Auburn St. Got there about 12:30 p.m.. Ordered a bowl of clam chowder. Had a cheery swift waitress. When I tasted the chowder my eyes popped wide open. It was incredibly good. I bought some to take home. Worth a trip to Watertown. I wouldn't want to have a sprawling brunch there in winter, the place is too small for sprawl. Went here today (Sunday) and was a little disappointed to discover the abbreviated lunch menu. My boyfriend was planning on getting the turkey club with fries, but it only comes with chips on Sundays, yet other patrons were eating fries? I had a basic breakfast dish and my boyfriend ordered a Santa Fe' egg scramble (I had order envy) with avacaodo, black beans etc. Everything was super fresh and came out quick. This has become a go-to for brunch for us. You sometimes have to wait for a table, but it's a really relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere with some really good breakfast options. I returned this afternoon for lunch. Basically, the food is good here, but the service was somewhat rude toward the end of our meal. I used to be a waitress and understand the desire to turn tables to make as much money as possible, but taking food away from patrons without asking if they are finished is a definite no-no in the food/beverage/hospitality industry. Our waitress looked like a high school student eager to earn some money, which is great, but she totally missed the ball when it comes to providing good service. So, I paid $2.79 for a large glass of OJ and expect that I will be able to finish it. My glass is 1/3 full of juice, and she comes right over and takes it away without asking me if I'm finished. I was so annoyed but didn't bother saying anything. At that point, I had already tipped her. If I hadn't already tipped her, I would have certainly taken a few dollars off for that. If she had said something about the restaurant closing in about an hour and needing the table, then I would have understood and chugged my juice. I hope the owner reads this review and retrains her b/c they've lost my business and will probably lose more in the future if she continues to provide this type of pushy service. read more

First, let me start off by saying that I don't review restaurants very often (if ever), and especially a restaurant my husband and I have been regulars to for about 3 years now every to every other Sunday to the point that we are recognized there. I am just appalled at the food and service of our morning visit. We had arrived around 1030 am and were seated promptly as the place did not seem too busy with many open tables and a choice of inside or outside. However, it took the waitress about 15 minutes to come to get our orders (she did apologize for the wait), and another 15-20 minutes to finally get our food. When the food did arrive, my husbands pancakes were perfect as always, however my food looked suspicious to say the least right away. I ordered scrambled eggs with veggies and kalamata olives (i've had a similar dish before) but this time the color off the eggs was an off-puting greyish-green, which I put off to the olives in it and dug in anyways. The eggs were cold around the edges, and warm in the middle as if they were sitting out for a while before being brought to us, the peppers and onions were disgustingly soggy and cold. I am not a picky eater at all, but even to me, this dish was something out of the ordinary. I did eat the warm eggs from the middle of the plate and left about a half untouched. There was also no cheese, when I did order Swiss. I really wish I had complained and sent the food back because the whole experience and my mood afterwards was ruined. The waitress did not check on us or offer coffee refills at all, and when we got our check, it took another 20 minutes for someone to come out and grab our card to charge it. I wish I had taken a picture of my meal before leaving. There was another time when my gluten free pancrepe came covered in regular granola, that I had taken a few bites of before realizing it was not GF. I did get a new pancrepe, but we weren't offered a discount or anything else for a pretty serious mistake on their part that someone could've gotten very very sick from. We paid full meal price and my always generous hubby tipped 20% both times. Seriously, Uncommon Grounds, very disappointed customers here that will not be coming back and that is too bad. :( read more

My favorite brunch place in town...actually my favorite anywhere. Food is excellent. Pancakes don't taste like they're from a mix, toast is real bread and even the bacon is nice and thick and lovely. My usual menu items are the Breakfast Platter (subbing in Crunchy French Toast and adding a side of whole wheat toast for my eggs) or the Eggs Benedict. I've also had the multigrain pancakes which I actually like better than the regular pancakes. All is delish. I only take away a star because while I enjoy the atmosphere here, the owners are lovely and they even finally have a decent wait staff going...it's kinda pricey for breakfast! What used to be a weekly thing when it was just the two of us, is now more of an occasional, maybe once a month thing with a family in tow! read more

Wow! Couldn't ask for a better breakfast experience. Didn't have a wait (we went when they weren't too busy, apparently, though others had to wait after we were seated), sat on the porch, had one of the friendliest waitresses I've ever had, and the pancakes were delicious. There are a few things that set these pancakes apart--and I like to think I know a thing or two about pancakes: the pancakes were hot and fluffy, not too much butter on top, not too sweet and a little salty (add in the sweetness of the syrup, and they were perfect), and a little crispy around the edges. My best friend and I decided to try Uncommon Grounds after her son raved about it. We went for breakfast yesterday, and had a positive experience from beginning to end. We arrived a little after 10:00 and were informed that there would be about a 25 minute wait, for which we were prepared. The estimate was accurate. Once we were seated, service was prompt. I ordered the lemon-ricotta pancakes which were absolute perfection! They were fluffy and flavorful, just the way I like them. You know that the pancakes are good when you don't need to add anything to them. Even though they came with a small cup of what looked to be fresh butter, I didn't use any of it; and while I did use a small amount of syrup, I could have happily eaten the pancakes plain. My friend ordered the multi-grain French toast which was also quite delicious. She really enjoyed it. Portions are generous. You'll leave full but not overly stuffed. The one thing I wasn't crazy about was the gingerbread latte, which was just ok - not as gingery as I was expecting. I wouldn't order it again. Next time, I'll probably go with the Milky Way latte, or the Chai latte. Latte aside, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Uncommon Grounds as did my friend. While the place is small, we had a very nice table next to the window and did not feel at all crowded. The waitstaff was attentive but did not hover as they do at some places; and even though there were clearly people waiting outside to be seated, we never felt rushed. This is a great place to go for breakfast/brunch. I hear it gets crowded at certain times, but we went at 11am on a Saturday and there were some tables open. I like the little outdoor patio, but we sat inside. It's a little cramped, so be prepared to hear all of the conversations going on around you. The food is fantastic. I had a milky way latte which was great. I had french toast and loved it and my boyfriend really enjoyed his pancakes and homefries though he thought they skimped on the bacon a bit.
