I stopped by Uncommon Ice Cream while visiting Boston and thought it was a cute spot. The shop is very small, but the bright red exterior makes it easy to notice from the street. There did not seem to be much seating on the ground level, and it felt pretty tight with people waiting in line. I noticed a staircase, so there may be more space upstairs, but I did not have an opportunity to check. The flavor list was the best part. They had a lot of interesting options, including Campfire S'mores, Watermelon Mint Sorbet, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Cinnamon Cornbread and Jam, Toasted Coconut Cream Pie, and 4th of July Cake Batter. Since I was there on the 4th of July, the seasonal flavors were fun to see. I ended up getting a small scoop of the Peanut Butter and Jelly flavor. It was rich and creamy, and overall an enjoyable flavor. The peanut butter flavor was definitely the strongest part, though. I could see the jelly in it, but I could not really taste it as much as I expected. It was still good, but I think adding toppings would have made it a little more balanced and interesting. Overall, Uncommon Ice Cream is a nice stop if you are in the area and want to try creative flavors. I would go back to try another scoop, especially one of the more unusual rotating options.

Uncommon Ice Cream is a small Boston shop that takes its name seriously, and the flavor creativity here is genuinely unlike what you will find at any other scoop shop in the city. We walked into a space where the owners are local and the passion behind the menu shows in how much thought goes into each combination, with flavors rotating frequently enough that repeat visits almost always offer something new to try. The six scoop sampler at twelve dollars is the obvious way to experience the menu on a first visit and makes it easy to move across the range without committing to a full scoop of anything you are unsure about. The basil strawberry is the standout, landing somewhere between a dessert and a Caprese salad in a way that sounds unusual until the first bite makes the whole concept click. The cinnamon cornbread is another strong order with a warmth and depth that feels more like a baked good than a traditional ice cream flavor. Gram's Magic Bars and the fluffernutter are both worth trying for anyone who wants to lean into the nostalgic, dessert forward side of the menu, and the roasted banana brings a caramelized richness that works well as a complement to something brighter. The texture across the menu is smooth and well made, and the sweet cream base that runs through many of the flavors is strong enough to stand on its own if you want something more classic while still being in the room. A few flavors have landed lighter on intensity than the concept might suggest going in, so sampling before committing on a less familiar flavor is always a smart move here. Service is friendly and the staff is happy to walk you through the rotating lineup, offering samples without hesitation. The space is small and can get crowded during peak hours, but the line moves efficiently. For an ice cream shop in Boston that rewards exploration and takes creative risks that actually land, Uncommon Ice Cream is a genuine standout.

There was a line out the door and I see why. The flavors are innovative and all sound delicious. I should have gotten a sampler and definitely will come back for one. I ordered the campfire s'mores which was full of chocolate chip and marshmallows. Definitely more filling than ice cream but I still enjoyed it.

Excuse the blurry pictures... but pictured top is the Strawberry & Cream, and bottom is the Oatmeal Creme Pie!

Me and my friends stumbled upon Uncommon Ice Cream while walking back from dinner in South End. I'm not exactly sure what possessed us to go in 30-degree weather, but I'm so glad we did. After huddling into the small shop, we sampled a couple of different flavors (which Uncommon does allow--something that honestly should be standard. I'm looking at you, Honeycomb Creamery), and every single one we tried was a hit. Between the four of us, we went for Sweet Cream, Oatmeal Creme Pie, Strawberry & Cream with Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Rosemary Honeycomb. In hindsight, I kind of wish we had gone with the 6-scoop sampler since it's arguably a better deal, but alas, we chose to be individualistic. Of the four, my favorites were the Oatmeal Creme Pie and the Rosemary Honeycomb. The Oatmeal Creme (which I ended up getting a full scoop of) was perfectly sweet--definitely on the sweeter side compared to the others--and I loved the bits of oats throughout. The Rosemary Honeycomb had a noticeable hint of rosemary (duh), but it came across refined and almost elegant, which is not something I usually associate with ice cream. As I'm typing this, I'm still thinking about how soft and creamy the texture was. If they had a location closer to Newbury, I'd probably be going every day, but just know I'll absolutely be back whenever I'm in South End.

Very good ice cream here! Fun rotating flavors and rotating specialty cones which I found very cool. I loved the matcha cone and the strawberry basil ice cream. The matcha peach ice cream was just okay. I would definitely go back and try out more unique flavors here!

Yum! This is going to be my new go to ice cream spot! We came on a weekday night and it was pretty packed in there but the line moved quickly. We got the 6 scoop sampler with chocolate, cookies and cream, pumpkin pie, almond mocha latte, cinnamon cornbread, and peach cobbler (?) Almond mocha latte and pumpkin pie were our favorites. I would highly recommend!

Uncommon Ice Cream in South Boston is one of those places that completely lives up to the hype. We stopped by recently and decided to try their 6 flavor sampler for $12, which is honestly one of the best dessert deals I've seen in Boston. It's perfect if you're visiting for the first time because you get to try a mix of their creative flavors without having to choose just one. Out of everything we tried, the roasted banana completely stole the show. It had this deep, caramelized flavor that tasted incredibly fresh and rich. The pistachio white chocolate was just as impressive -- easily one of the best ice cream flavors I've had in the city. We also had chocolate and cookies & cream, and both were done really well. Super creamy, balanced sweetness, and exactly what you'd want from classic flavors. What really stood out to me was that they don't just focus on traditional ice cream. They also offer great vegan options, and the cranberry sorbet and peach green tea with candied ginger were both genuinely delicious, not just "good for dairy-free." The space itself is small but charming, and the staff were extremely kind and patient, especially while we were deciding between flavors. If you're in South Boston and craving dessert, this place is absolutely worth checking out. The sampler alone makes it a must-visit.

I've heard folks raving about this place for years, so finally decided to swing by and try it out…read more First off, must say I'm a bit of a skeptic regarding specialty ice cream shops: with one exception (a now-defunct "frozen custard" shop in Friendswood, Texas of all places, where you could see the super-dense/rich stuff glacially oozing out of the machine, and one milkshake's worth of it kept me full for the rest of the day!) I have yet to find any that are significantly better than ordinary Haagen Daz from a supermarket. In fact, most ice cream parlour ice creams aren't even as good, while costing orders of magnitude more than supermarket H-D! Toscanini's is close to equal to H-D in my book...and mainly for the fact that they offer some truly unusual and original flavors: we had the Mango Sticky Rice, Burnt Caramel, and Kulfi. My friend who enjoyed the first one the most, quickly tired of the second, and the third was my favorite by far, mainly because I love cardamom and saffron so much. I was somewhat conflicted with the Burnt Caramel...first taste was delightful, but halfway through the novelty faded away for the most part. We both appreciated that the ice cream was not hyper-sweet like JP Licks, though. HOWEVER, the extreme creaminess, density, and dry mouth-feel of H-D was just not there, as usual. I'd describe the texture of Toscanini's ice cream to be fairly ordinary, like a typical soft/smooth gelato texture. Not bad, but not anything I would really write home about. YMMV of course. Otherwise, service was good and the place is clean and pleasantly modern inside, with 3 nice new steel benches to sit at outside. The benches are curiously turned AWAY from the street, I suppose to foster more of a "communal" vibe and people-watching opportunities. I've walked by during peak hours and seen it quite full, so this place clearly is still quite popular. At $8.25 for 3 scoops (albeit fairly generous sized scoops) of oh, 8 out of 10 ice cream, I don't see myself ever becoming a regular here despite the undeniably interesting/unique flavors, unless I came mainly for the people-watching opps on a nice weather day.

I've also made a customized version of the demogorgon to add caramel core and fudge sauce. You mostly taste the toppings more than the actual ice cream. The demogorgon is great for the chocolate on chocolate craving. I didn't like the Vader as much because the frosting on top is too sweet. Cannolis and cream I subbed the Oreo frosting with their homemade whip. Their whip doesn't taste like anything sadly and their frosting is overpowering. I probably wouldn't get this again since all you taste is the chocolate chips and a hint of Oreo. The yogurt itself was bland. For the blueb sundae I love the fresh blueberries, pudding and crumb topping. It's very nice for a fruit ice cream just wish the ice cream was more flavorful. Order online for easier pickup as there is only 1 screen to take orders at and no seating inside. Quick service. Has picnic tables outside to sit and not too bad to find parking on the street. Has some little tables but limited and twinkly lights at night. Staff seemed very stressed when people crowd around and needs better organization of the pickup area vs ordering vs waiting to avoid this frustration/rudeness from the staff.
