Great ice creams with many creative flavors that change each week or so. We tried the six flavor sampler for just$12, what a deal. Ours included chocolate, Oreos and cream, cornbread and jam, toasted coconut, and shortbread and a sixth that was great but we can't remember the name. We also sampled a few others such as matcha and peanut butter and jelly that tasted exactly like the classic American sandwich. Lot of topping choices and homemade cones. All the ice creams and cones are made on site by a great and very friendly staff lead by owners Blair and Kady who are not only new business operators but also recent dog owners and best of all new parents of baby Harper. No lack of gumption with these two. Location is on Columbus Avenue in Boston's historic Southend. Great flavors, great value and super location. What more could you ask for ? read more

Friend recommended Uncommon ice cream for their unique ice cream so decided to give it a try while we were in South End area. Shop is very small, with limited indoor and outdoor seating. We sampled a bunch and ended up getting a small scoop of the Cookies & Cream and Cinnamon, Corn Bread, and Cherry Jam. Ice cream was delicious and had good amount of mix-ins. Very creamy and sweet as well which I prefer. I like how they rotate flavors often - if I lived in Boston, I would definitely frequent this shop to try their new flavors. read more

I stopped by Uncommon Ice Cream while visiting Boston and thought it was a cute spot. The shop is very small, but the bright red exterior makes it easy to notice from the street. There did not seem to be much seating on the ground level, and it felt pretty tight with people waiting in line. I noticed a staircase, so there may be more space upstairs, but I did not have an opportunity to check. The flavor list was the best part. They had a lot of interesting options, including Campfire S'mores, Watermelon Mint Sorbet, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Cinnamon Cornbread and Jam, Toasted Coconut Cream Pie, and 4th of July Cake Batter. Since I was there on the 4th of July, the seasonal flavors were fun to see. I ended up getting a small scoop of the Peanut Butter and Jelly flavor. It was rich and creamy, and overall an enjoyable flavor. The peanut butter flavor was definitely the strongest part, though. I could see the jelly in it, but I could not really taste it as much as I expected. It was still good, but I think adding toppings would have made it a little more balanced and interesting. Overall, Uncommon Ice Cream is a nice stop if you are in the area and want to try creative flavors. There was a line out the door and I see why. The flavors are innovative and all sound delicious. I should have gotten a sampler and definitely will come back for one. Me and my friends stumbled upon Uncommon Ice Cream while walking back from dinner in South End. I'm not exactly sure what possessed us to go in 30-degree weather, but I'm so glad we did. After huddling into the small shop, we sampled a couple of different flavors (which Uncommon does allow--something that honestly should be standard. I'm looking at you, Honeycomb Creamery), and every single one we tried was a hit. Between the four of us, we went for Sweet Cream, Oatmeal Creme Pie, Strawberry & Cream with Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Rosemary Honeycomb. In hindsight, I kind of wish we had gone with the 6-scoop sampler since it's arguably a better deal, but alas, we chose to be individualistic. Of the four, my favorites were the Oatmeal Creme Pie and the Rosemary Honeycomb. The Oatmeal Creme (which I ended up getting a full scoop of) was perfectly sweet--definitely on the sweeter side compared to the others--and I loved the bits of oats throughout. The Rosemary Honeycomb had a noticeable hint of rosemary (duh), but it came across refined and almost elegant, which is not something I usually associate with ice cream. As I'm typing this, I'm still thinking about how soft and creamy the texture was. If they had a location closer to Newbury, I'd probably be going every day, but just know I'll absolutely be back whenever I'm in South End. read more

Uncommon Ice Cream in South Boston is one of those places that completely lives up to the hype. We stopped by recently and decided to try their 6 flavor sampler for $12, which is honestly one of the best dessert deals I've seen in Boston. It's perfect if you're visiting for the first time because you get to try a mix of their creative flavors without having to choose just one. Out of everything we tried, the roasted banana completely stole the show. It had this deep, caramelized flavor that tasted incredibly fresh and rich. The pistachio white chocolate was just as impressive -- easily one of the best ice cream flavors I've had in the city. We also had chocolate and cookies & cream, and both were done really well. Super creamy, balanced sweetness, and exactly what you'd want from classic flavors. What really stood out to me was that they don't just focus on traditional ice cream. They also offer great vegan options, and the cranberry sorbet and peach green tea with candied ginger were both genuinely delicious, not just "good for dairy-free." The space itself is small but charming, and the staff were extremely kind and patient, especially while we were deciding between flavors. Flavor bomb, but long line. We got there around 8pm on Tuesday and the were in line for about 15minutes. We tried the matcha peach and the basil balsamic strawberry. The basil was the overall winner. Matcha peach lacked peach flavor and was very icy, but the matcha flavor was packing. Upon first bite of the basil, I was shocked. There was a lot of basil and the flavor was strong. Upon my 2nd bite with some strawberry, it mellowed down and was very enjoyable. The ice cream itself wasn't too sweet, which is perfect for me. However, the ice cream was also a bit icy likely due to the water content of the strawberry. I didn't get any balsamic flavor but overall, I loved this ice cream and will be back. Hopefully they'll improve on the texture and never stop making this flavor! I'm excited to come back for the other flavors. read more

Came on the 4OJ on a hot summer afternoon, desperate to feel just 2 degrees cooler. The welcome of 4OJ cake batter, the atmosphere, and the cold water in cans, alongside the respite we found in a summer storm, the unexpected torrential downpour, met with rags to pat ourselves dry made this the best ice cream spot I've been to since moving here. Really good new ice cream place in the South End. They have a few classic flavors (I.e. chocolate) but mostly more inventive flavors like pumpkin pie with Cinnamon Toast Crunch or balsamic strawberry. The six pack sampler is a great option for those who want to try a little of everything (and maybe share with others). I really loved some of the flavors, like the dump cake and balsamic strawberry. Some other flavors, like the pumpkin pie and magic bars, were more muted for my taste. The shop itself is charming but tiny so plan to take your ice cream to go. read more

A new, very small, ice cream place opening in South End on Columbus Ave. They definitely have uncommon ice cream flavors that you wouldn't expect to find at a typical ice cream place. They do have sweet cream and chocolate, but also cinnamon corn bread and pumpkin pie. They also have 2 sorbet flavors cantaloupe and orange cranberry. I decided on grams magic bars and fluffernutter. There was one guy working who scooped up my ice cream and rung me up at the register. His favorites right now are the cornbread and fluffernutter. I also really enjoyed the fluffernutter flavor as it has the creamy peanut butter texture as well as the sweetness from the marshmallow making it the perfect combination. The grams magic bars was good as well having gram crackers, chocolate, coconut, nuts, and condensed milk. If you like a chunky ice cream that's the flavor for you. I'll definitely be back to try out the cantaloupe sorbet or other seasonal flavors and would highly recommend checking them out! read more

Uncommon has some of the best ice cream I've ever had. I couldn't decide on which flavor to try, so we got the sampler and all of the flavors were 10/10. They have your classics and then some really unique, delicious options that I haven't stopped thinking about. My 3 year old son usually sticks to vanilla but was a huge fan of the sampler. If you're in the neighborhood definitely check out the shop, and if you're not, it's worth the trip! read more
