We had a particularly difficult job site due to a sloped lot, but Ray and Justin were in no way challenged by this issue. They were communicative and transparent through the entire process, rolling with the punches of our ever changing ideas and actually made several suggestions to improve our project that absolutely blew us away. The first project involved creation of a custom waterfall with meandering stream that created a beautiful, calming sound in the front yard. They went further by adding a beautiful, custom made BBQ area surrounded by flagstone that is as tremendous today as it was when it was originally built. They also went the extra mile by completing the driveway in a matching flagstone that takes your breath away. The more recent project, involved leveling our sloped (unusable) lot, building a custom retaining wall / planter and perhaps most impressive is the brilliantly designed cascading water wall feature and fire-pit with custom built in benches. We are so happy with our experience with Under the Sea from beginning to end. We received estimates from around 5 companies and both my husband and I agreed that Under the Sea was the way to go. Ray and Justin were kind, professional, creative, and very helpful explaining every step along the way. We hired them because we had issues with cracking in our pool and pebble-tec so Ray and Justin added a tile line where there was cracking, removed some planters around the pool, fixed all the lose stones around the pool and steps, and added more concrete to our patio area. During the work they found existing issues with our pool (from the original builder) and handled every obstacle with confidence and experience. There were also times we weren't sure what to do creatively and they offered many options within different price ranges until we found something that we liked. Even with the issues that came up, we never felt like Ray and Justin were taking advantage of us or trying to get more money out of us. They were upfront and honest and always concerned about doing the right job without cutting corners. They paid attention to detail and explained everything that was happening. Ray and Justin with Under The Sea restored my faith in the humanity of contractors. As a single (widowed) woman, I've had my fair share of contractors who were simply awful to do business with throughout the years. Upon meeting Ray and Justin, they reassured me that I and my project were in good hands. I do my diligence and of the several bids I got for my pool repair, Under The Sea was very reasonable and were full service and could complete every aspect of the project (artificial rock recoloring, repair cracks, replace pool tile, replace deco seal, etc). Ray and Justin were absolutely wonderful! Ray communicated with me everyday as to when to expect them and when they wrapped up. They even sent pictures throughout the project to show me progress. I have never seen two guys work harder than Ray and Justin ... they put their heart and soul into their craftsmanship and made sure that I was happy. It should be noted that a pool renovation is a messy job, but at the end of everyday, I was AMAZED at how clean Ray and Justin left the worksite. Tools neatly stacked away, surfaces free of debris, dust (and there's a lot of dust), etc. It warmed my little OCD heart (lol). I needed a pool face lift so I started my search. I interviewed 10 companies looked them up and did my research. When I met Ray he was very clear and explained the process piece by piece. I am an Event planner so by my very nature I need a clear plan. He was patient and answered every concern. He was not the cheapest of the companies but the one I could tell was experienced enough for the project. Justin was also a partner and he was equally as knowledgeable and had an amazing positive attitude to boot. No matter what we asked they had a smile and magically made it happen. The materials I chose were of course higher end but as a decorator it had to be quality. He went and found exact products to make me and my husband happy. The pebble plaster was not the right color and he fixed that for us as well. They Itemized everything with a payment schedule. No hidden fees or cost. Not only was the work superior quality but their staff were all polite and professional. They were very neat and organized as well. Their staff had all of the materials and supplies on a white cloth and was very clean. They gave me exact dates they would work and was there as we agreed. Ray at Under The Sea and his crew designed and built my Koi Pond and perform all the maintenance. In the design stage Ray's decades of experience was crucial in the location of a suitiable site on my property for optimum health of my soon to be bought Koi. The building phase was on budget and completed ahead of schedule, I got more than I imagined !!! What I thought would be a waterfall,small stream and Koi Pond is my own Oasis !!! I spend hours in the evenings just relaxing and enjoying the tranquility afforded by this wonderful addition to my yard,also great for partys everyone loves feeding the koi. If there was a sixth star, they deserve it. Ray has taken care of our fish pond for at least 10 years with the very best of care. When we wanted a fountain feature--yep, Ray and Justin did that and set up flower bed around it. The lighting was next and our yard is elegant and inviting in the evenings. His team installed beautiful pavers on our redesigned studio patio. He told us about a coating for the old cement driveway. We were a little skeptical at first, but the job turned out to be the best solution and we love it--looks new, stays cleaner and resists stains. As a favor he and Justin installed some new sprinklers and repaired some very old ones. They are almost part of the family after spending all this time with us. I had a home that I was getting ready to sell that had a free form pool with a ton of faux rocks that were really cracking and fading. The elevated spa also had a lot of pebble tec which had broken off and needed to be resurfaced. I had a couple of pool contractors come in to give me a quote but they said they could only do the spa pebble tec resurfacing and not repair the deteriorating rock. I then heard about Under the Sea and gave them a call. Ray came out right away to assess the repairs and I was happy to hear that he would be able to handle the job which he estimated could take as long as a month to complete because of the complexity. He was incredibly transparent with his quote which he gave me within a few days of coming out. I decided to move forward and accept his bid and I couldn't be happier that I did. This is only the second review I have written for any company in my life but it was WELL DESERVED! I just finished a major remodel on a new home which lasted 6 months and had sub contractors from all specialties on the project. NONE WERE as hassle free as Ray and his son Justin from Under The Sea. I spent 3 full days interviewing 9 highly rated pool restoration companies that specialized in faux rock but it was abundantly clear in the end who I should spend my hard earned money with. I had done extensive research on the process of faux rock repair and prepared a list of 20+ questions to ask each pool company that came out. Most of the companies sent out a "salesmen" who couldn't answer most of the technical questions being asked. When Ray and his son Justin showed up themselves for our appointment, they answered all of my questions to my satisfaction and had many great ideas to not only repair the crumpling structure but vastly improve the look and function of the pool and slide. It was obvious they had a eye for details and that is what I was looking for. They assured me that THEY would be on the job doing the work and that was critical to me as repairing faux rock is an ART that few can do well. I knew the project was not going to be cheap and I wanted it to be DONE RIGHT and last a long time. They did not let me down! Ray was clear on pricing, no hidden up-charges, they showed up on time per our agreed schedule, and most importantly, they took ownership in the project and treated MY POOL AS IF IT WAS THEIR OWN! These guys rocked (no pun intended), were friendly, professional, and detail oriented. True artisans. The pool is now the centerpiece of the backyard and they delivered Big Time! Everyone that has seen the pool since the completion is blown away. They all tell me they feel like they're at a Hawaiian Resort. I can't thank Ray and Justin enough for taking a 17 year old neglected crumbling pile of pool do-do and miraculously turning it into a 5 star resort lagoon pool. I'd give them 10 stars if I could! I had a problem with a waterfall that flowed into my pool. Water was leaking from the holding basin of the waterfall I am extremely pleased with howUnder the Sea addressed this problem for me. I had put in several calls to companies that claimed they did repair work on pools and water features. Many did not return my call and another said they fixed cracks and leaks in pools but had not done a waterfall and seemed unsure of how to best address the problem. Ray, the owner of Under the Sea, returned my call right away. He had me take pictures of the waterfall and the areas were I could see some small cracks. After texting the pictures to Ray he called back and informed me of what exactly needed to be done to repair the cracks and stop the leak. There was no question that he knows his work. I told him to do the work and was glad that he was able to fit me into his busy schedule within just a couple of days. He did all the work he had mentioned as more to make sure my waterfall was water tight. I am so pleased to say that my waterfall is flowing into my pool again with no leaks at all. After reading the two negative reviews on here, I was really surprised. We switched to Ray a couple of months ago, after being with a well known fish pond maintenance person. We switched from them because we were constantly having problems with our pond and the fish, and they were always blaming us for it. Ray was recommended to us by a friend. From day one he has been nothing but professional and kind hearted. Within a few days of his treating our pond, the years long issues we were having it, which according to the previous person was our fault, was completely cleared. Up. Ray has worked with us for about 15 years. He took an ordinary lap pool and converted it into a beautiful, stone-rimmed large Koi pond, set up the pumping system with UV and biological filters, all the plumbing and has done the maintenance, helping us with Koi issues as well as any plumbing/concrete issues....we now have more than 50 Koi who live in crystal clear water, some of whom have grown to 2 1/2 feet....he has been available by phone whenever he is needed, or if there is ever a problem, daytime, nighttime or weekends....He and his son Justine have also helped us find solid reasonable contractors for other projects....He is an asset to any home owner who wants to be creative with their property read more
