Dessert in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... Located between a pawn shop and a vape shop... there is a cute, cozy small business named U*Ni Sweets Bakery & Tea. In the past, I visited this space when it had a different name, and the same concept: Instagram-worthy decor where customers can hang out to study and/or chat. Service can improve. Example: I ordered Lychee Peach Tea. The monitor showed that the drink would have cheese topping. I told the young gal that I didn't want cheese. She wasn't able to remove it, but said she'd remember to not include it. I noted that the price with cheese is higher. She couldn't adjust the price, so I just changed my order. English as a second language could be the barrier. Also, that menu item didn't match the computer system. I did enjoy the Mix Fruit Four Seasons Tea with slices/chunks of fresh fruits (lemon, lime, orange, strawberry, watermelon, and passionfruit). I also got the Taro Rice Yogurt, which was healthy, filling, and tasty! I would bring my niece's here - they'd like this vibe and environment! They might want a slice of strawberry Shortcake or Ube Mille crepe cake, too! Those looked yummy! Note: they have a clean, convenient restroom!

Came here for our after dinner dessert. There were some desserts in their case but nothing we liked. But their drinks were unexpectedly delicious and refreshing. Definitely will be back before heading back home.

Tried these 2 customized cakes (matcha- bento size and ube- heart shaped) that my sister ordered for her birthday and my son's one month. The cake designs did not disappoint us. Found my new fave matcha cake. The matcha filling was on point and full of flavor. It goes well with the cake itself, spongy/fluffy. The ube cake had a strong nutty flavor and it was still good.

What a sweet place... After all this location was once Sweets by Sweeties and they did pretty much kept the layout but gave it their own "sweet" touches. I do absolutely love the varieties of seating so that groups of guest can find their own space without being in someone else's space. After still feeling a bit jet lagged that I guess age must've have a role as I've never felt this exhausted and knew exactly what I needed is a nice fruity cup of tea and was quite surprised to find U-ni Sweets and just loved the vibe they've created here and though I knew exactly what I wanted "Mixed Fruit Four Seasons Tea" and though I didn't say it was quite disappointed they never asked about the sweetness level and Ice choices and made it 100%, thankfully it wasn't too sweet though I do prefer 25% and light ice. I did come for tea but the display case filled with sweets did piqued my interest and asked about the cute round cakes which turned out to be their lava cakes and between the two one was obviously red velvet but the other was black sesame...oooooohhh! Had to get that one to go and oh how they pack it so nice and safely for the trip home they do take every precaution which I do like and don't skimp on the box which makes it also makes it great for gifting. It's probably since it's kept refrigerated but the grand revealing wasn't as spectacular lol very little if ever any flow happened but that cake was very light and airy and the black sesame cream wasn't sweet with the hint of sesame is such a delicate treat and ate it up in minutes. They also had a Creme brûlée Coffee Mille Crepe Cake that I was eyeing...so you know I'm coming back for that with a cup of tea sounds like the perfect place for that and more/ Thank you!

Welcome U-ni Sweets! A new fusion bakery and bubble tea shop in Kalihi. U-ni's IG-worthy desserts are very light and full of whipped cream. Instead of their lava cakes having a warm molten center, these cakes have a collar, that when lifted, releases a flood of icing that erupts over the cake. The bento cakes are mini cakes in flavors like mango, Oreo, and salted egg yoke with pork floss. There are different flavored tiramisus and croissants that are filled and iced. A slice of chocolate cake was light in flavor and texture, with only a hint of chocolate in the flecks of chocolate in the whipped cream. The ube crepe cake was very pretty with over 20 layers of thin crepe, moistened and held together with whipped cream. While it was pleasantly tender and fresh, it was barely sweet and tasted like batter and cream. While the desserts are light, the milk teas are heavy. The brûlée devil milk tea had a cheese foam and ube devil milk tea had custard at the bottom. We got the drinks 50% sweet and wished we'd asked for 25% instead. The brûlée tasted like brown sugar syrup. The ube tasted like ube and powdered milk. If you like whipped cream, U-ni is perfect for you! Enjoy an individual dessert and get your camera ready!

New dessert and tea spot in Kalihi. Parking is very small and limited. Went on a weekday. Cafe was pretty spacious and cute decor. I stopped by during their special promotion for grand opening. Got a drink and a cake for $1.99. Ordered the mango cheese tea and the ube millie crepe. Love the drink, has the tea aroma in the drink. Sugar and ice level is adjustable. Ube millie crepe was lite. Not too sweet either. Desserts and drinks are very good. I don't know if I want to pay that much for it though.

Ube Mille Crepe Cake, Cheese Lychee Peach Tea, Pineapple Passion Fruit Cake
    Ruby S.

Ube Mille Crepe Cake: Twenty five layers of ube crepe, covered and topped with light ube tasting frosting. Pineapple Passion Fruit Cake: Equally balanced taste of baked pineapple and passion fruit in dense cake and frosting. Cheese Lychee Peach: Cheese Foam at the top balanced sweetness of diced lychee jelly and peach tea. I didn't stir my beverage. Eventually cheese foam tasted rich and will gradually make its way to the bottom. My desserts and beverage were delectable. I've definitely enjoyed my sweets! Courteous and helpful customer service from two kind ladies. First worker asked if I wanted my order for here or to go. I informed her for here and another worker was very thoughtful to bring a dessert plate with paper liner and fork to the table. Free parking available in the lot. My only wish is for this shop to offer non dairy alternatives: almond, oat and/or soy for milk teas. Only whole milk is offered and provided for milk teas. I would definitely return to satisfy my sweet tooth craving and modern ambience.

Cute new shop in Kalihi. They're located across Golden coin and right next to the fire station and KFC in a little strip mall. There's a few parking stalls available and maybe 2 - 30 mins stall right in front of their shop. They're currently running a promo for the first 30 people gets free drinks and also if you buy a drink or cake you can get a slice of cake for 1.99 (until the 27th). The shop is clean and super cute and the best thing of all is that they welcome pets too. The shop owner recognized me without my dog while i was in line and asked where Simba was and to bring him next time, LOL. Their drinks menu was extensive. it was actually really overwhelming, but luckily i was like the 5th person in line so i was able to look at the menu board while they ordered. They also have a cake display off to the side. at the time there was only pineapple passion fruit, ube crepe cake, and a black sesame lava cake available. It looked like they were about to prepare a strawberry shortcake too. Cake pricing can be somewhere between $6-14.00 depending on what you get. If you get the lava cake and decide to eat it later - just make sure you let it defrost for a little bit before you pull it apart for the gooey effect. I'll surely be back again if im in the area! I love fresh watermelon drinks and it was such a treat that they had it available.

The girl didn't really speak English. Prices feel a bit high but the chocolate waffle was good. It's a little hard to see them since they're in the corner of a dark lot. Very cute decor.

Large rose milk tea with brown sugar boba
    Eri K.

We decided to step in here after visiting a nearby establishment because the Yelp pictures looked so delicious- lots of variety of cakes and drinks. Much to our dismay, they only had 1 type of cake and so were a little disappointed. They did have a variety of boba drinks -milky and fruity. The rose milk tea was not too sweet as we got it 50% sweet but the brown sugar boba was pretty sweet and so the two together made a good drink. I only wish we were able to try their cakes.

    So cute!

I was pretty excited to try here, I previously saw an advertisement on IG about their dessert happy hour at the end of the night. It was pretty confusing/disappointing when we finally came to the store the worker kind of had no clue and the information she gave us was different than the promotion. Since we were already here we tried it out anyway. I got the mixed fruit tea and enjoyed the lilikoi seeds in it specifically. Its nice seeing that all the drinks are made to order, just remember to be patient if you're there at a busy time.

Located by Farrington High School, I could see this boba/cake shop being busy after school! Order the Taro Rice Yogurt and loved that it was blended!! Could barely taste the rice and enjoyed the drink. Went for the happy hour specials that were on their ig. There was a promotion for 1 drink + 1 random cake slice OR 1 drink + 1 slice of cake. We tried to opt for the 1 drink + 1 slice of cake as we wanted to pick which different cakes (and it was a cheaper combo). Unfortunately the employee said it had to be the cake of the day. It was a bit confusing as there was a language barrier

When I learned they also make custom cakes, I decided to order one for a coworker's farewell. I needed a cake that was gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free. She can tolerate gluten and dairy with consequences later, but she has a severe nut allergy, so finding something safe for her was the top priority. I wanted to make sure she could finally enjoy a cake without worrying, since she's eaten other farewell cakes in the past, but suffered later. I reached out about two weeks in advance, and Franceska was incredibly kind and helpful throughout the process. Mondays are limited to custom cake pick-ups within a 2-2:30 pm window, and the day I went happened to coincide with a forecasted storm. I texted to confirm they'd still be open since other businesses were closing, and she reassured me they would be. The cake itself was adorable. The simple design and color palette were beautiful, and my coworker loved it. She chose chocolate ganache with lilikoi buttercream, and the lilikoi flavor was especially lovely; subtle but bright and balanced, and it really tied everything together. Texture-wise, the cake was a little drier than traditional cakes and had a slightly different aftertaste, but that's understandable given the dietary restrictions. It actually grew on me, and most importantly, my coworker was able to enjoy it safely and loved it. If you need desserts that accommodate dietary restrictions, especially vegan or allergen-friendly options, Puʻuwai Bakery is definitely worth considering.

You see, last Christmas I gave you my heart and the very next day, you gave it away. This year, to save me from tears........no, no. This never happened to me but Wham's "Last Christmas" which was written by George Michael, is overly played during the holidays in Japan. On a serious note, last Christmas I was jonesing for a yule log. I saw posts on IG and when I attempted to order one at a bakery on S King St, I was advised it was too late. At a Japanese themed bakery I was offered the option of a Christmas cake but wasn't in a mood for strawberry shortcake. I was on a mission. I recall attending a Christmas dinner at my cousin's a few years back where someone brought Yule logs and found that they were from Elvin's Bakery (EB). I also did a search on EB's photo gallery and saw one posted so I gave them a call. Placing an order via telephone was literally a piece of cake. It was confirmed to a tee and was also advised their closing on Christmas Day so pick up would be on Christmas Eve. I made payment over the phone. All done. The Yule log was a hit at Christmas dinner where it was visually stunning and tasty. It was not overly sweet nor dry. Well executed and decorated beautifully. So why not 5-stars? Picking it up was a shocker when the Yule log was placed in a cake box that clearly was meant for a 1/2 sheet cake (?) size so you had to be extra careful when transporting and storing. There was no support nor fillers in the box for the quite empty box as the Yule log was not meant for the box provided. In closing, I'm grateful EB came through with an amazing dessert for our holiday dinner but was caught off guard with their boxing. I'll need to think twice about ordering a Yule log again from them and will definitely order earlier and seek the options on Oahu before deciding on where to go.
