Usually not a big hot pot guy, and I'm still not really a big hot pot guy. This is because every hot pot place I've been has some watery soup in their hot pot. You'd think that there's some substantial flavor in the soup, but it's just spicy water. Uniboil was the first hot pot location where I tried the soup and it wasn't as watery. I will say it wasn't bursting with flavor, but I was pleasantly surprised. I got the korean hot pot thing with some rice, and I was surprisingly pretty full after this munch. The broth is similar to Boiling Point, large portion. I am pretty full with all stuffs included in hotpot despite of not eating any rice or vermicelli. The sauce is not good as boiling point. She went for the chicken broth, and I opted for Sichuan Pepper Numb hot pot. Both fantastic. Be sure to get samples of the soup bases as the sign on the door suggests. I was very excited to see that a hot pot place from SoCal opened up in Goleta. The wait can be long since the place is small but they have a boba place next door that is pretty good so you can order drinks there while you wait. They have pots here that come with everything cooked inside of them already and you can just choose which pot you want from the menu. They also have extra items you can add to your pot and appetizers along with a wide variety of noodles. You can also order drinks from the boba place at your table which is really nice. They also have multiple sauces at your table and overall, I thought this place was pretty good. read more

What a fun night! We enjoyed the chicken broth for kids and the spicy hot soup for the parents. Both were delicious and our semi picky kids kept exclaiming how great it was! Called in the morning to make a reservation for my roommate's birthday - the woman on the phone gave me a reservation for 6:30 PM for two - all seems well. We have car trouble arriving, and call the restaurant ahead of time to let them know we will be half an hour late - the man on the phone tells me that as of YESTERDAY, they don't take reservations for parties under 6, and my reservation wouldn't have been honored anyway? Ridiculous. He also assures me that two people won't be much of a wait. When we arrive, it takes us 5 minutes to even find someone to put our name down. Rather than putting their iPad outside or in the front of the restaurant, they have someone carrying it around, who was the same man I spoke to on the phone, and who I assume is a manager. He reiterated that our reservation would not have been honored anyhow. My roommate, who is Chinese but doesn't look typically so, could understand the Mandarin spoken by the employees and some guests, and inferred based on the dialogue that preferential treatment was being given to Chinese guests. In the time we waited, we watched a Hispanic family who had been on the wait list for a long time check in multiple times to be seated, but weren't, though other tables were before them. My roommate noted that rather than clean the empty table for the family, the servers kept servicig the tables with what appeared to be Chinese patrons. Such an unfriendly environment made me want to avoid eating here altogether. The food was good, but I personally think it's ridiculous to charge for things like green onion and garlic. Hands down, this is one of the best places (if not THE BEST) to get hot pot in town. Food is very tasty and menu is straightforward. They use quality meat (certified Angus beef, Snake River Farms pork, etc.) for their hot pots. My personal favorite, however, is the seafood (and they serve you with LOTS of seafood). I have been living in SB/Goleta for over 4 years, and I was on the brink of giving-up, because every noodle place out here either sucked (serious disappointment) or did not cater to vegetarians (a.k.a me). The broth is so flavorful and well-developed, the corn is buttery, the cabbage is cooked perfectly, the roots/fungus and whatever else are tasty, and the addition of noodles (and sometimes some other add-ones) make the soup a surprisingly filling and satisfying meal. But wait, there's more! DO NOT sleep on their boba! I'm basic and always get a Thai tea with boba, but oh man I am giddy inside every time! They sell a 24oz for less than 5 dollars - which is a win in my books (SB is expensive). Most importantly they put the perfect ratio of tea:milk:ice:boba and I couldn't be happier! The duo between the hot & spicy soup and the cold & milky boba milk tea is the kind of excitement that I need on a weekly, if not daily, bases. Impressive all around! The Good Stuff (food): Everything was delicious, and their selection of noodles/broths/add-ins is incredible! They had an appetizer which I BELIEVE is called "Popping Fish Balls" which sounds way more gross than it really is, since it was amazing and I highly recommend giving it a try! Their "Phresh" teas, though not the very best I have ever had, were definitely better than some others I have had in the surrounding areas. Non-Food related: My sister/brother-in-law were visiting, and none of us had ever been to a hot-pot place before, but the staff was extremely accommodating! We were given an in-depth explanation of everything, and there was quite a lot you need to know, but in truth it was very simple. My family brought their dog, and the restaurant allowed us to become the very first to sit outside - they even took pictures for their wall! -Since we were outside, they cooked the meat beforehand, though I believe if you sit inside then the meat is cooked in your soup!- Overall, we had a great experience, and considering the restaurant opened only a month before we went there, I'd say that this is definitely an important gem to try in our community here in Goleta! read more
