This place is a gem. I had the pleasure of stopping in and having an excellent conversation with Derek about beer. He knows his stuff, he is an absolute alchemist with his brewing methods. Wish I could give 0 stars for this place wasting my time on top of everything else that's bad about it. I was clearly the only non-regular out of about 15 customers. Didn't know there were no servers or food. No one bothered to even explain how the place operated. And c'mon. Not even pretzels at the tables? And you want me to bring my own food? Why don't I bring my own beer too? Thought the place was no smoking, but everyone at the bar was vaping up a storm, including the bartender, which I thought was sad. Can't do your job without stopping to take a puff? I'm glad I didn't drink anything because I wouldn't want exhaled vape residue in my beer. Visited for the comedy show, which started 15 minutes late, with the "talent" sitting there at a table the whole time. NEVER start a show late. Very unprofessional. The comedy was awful and not even up to the standard of a high-quality open mic. My only laugh was from a heckler torturing the headliner and telling him repeatedly how he was not in the slightest bit funny. I thanked her on my way out. There are too many better options in Carmel to ever step foot in this place, unless you really value being able to sit outside with your dog, or you need to hang out at a place "where everybody knows your name." read more

It's hard to get a good picture, but this place is a whole vibe. Located on the Monon path pretty close to the Hotel Carmichael. It's a brewing company set up in a garage with a simple outdoor seating area. We've gone here twice now when we've needed a break from Carmel Fest (July 4th). It's a great atmosphere with fun times and a good variety of tasty craft beverages. Blink and you'll miss it - and you definitely don't want to do that! read more

Union brewing is such a cool place right off the monon! They always have live music which is an A+ in my book. The vibe of this place during the day and at night is amazing. I also love that they are super dog friendly! Their beer is pretty good. It's a limited selection, but what they do have is good. They do usually have something for everyone. Checked this place out. It was ok. Went to the bar and informed the bartender it was our first time there and he literally said nothing to us. I was expecting a little about the place and their beers. It's a nice space, right off the Monon. They let you bring in your own food as they don't have a kitchen. A good place to grab a beer off the Monon Trail. I use this place sometimes as a reward for running: I'll run on the Monon for a while until I get to Union, and then jog my sweaty self up to the bar and get a nice cold pint. I hate running, but I will run for beer. And they don't care at Union Brewing Company if I'm sweaty and out of breath. This isn't a fancy bar -- it's a come-as-you-are place. Some of the people seemed to know the bartenders, and they chatted while the bartenders whipped around helping everyone. There's a nice and friendly vibe in there. There are beer mugs hanging that belong to people, and apparently you can leave one and then just grab it when you come in and get it filled? That's a neat concept. When I was there, it was a nice sunny day, so Union has their doors open to the outdoor seating area, and the breeze was blowing in and it was pleasant as fark. Love this place! The best part about UBC is their outdoor area. It's a huge space with tons of seating and tables. Also, the area backs up to the Monon trail, so you can drink a beer and watch all the people go by on the Monon! I could sit out there for hours; it's such a nice, laid back atmosphere. The beer is good! Cask beer is Union Brewing's specialty. Cask means the beer undergoes some of the fermentation in a barrel. It's less carbonated than normal beer and has a slightly different taste. I tried their Red Irish Ale on cask. It wasn't for me, but I tried their Tropicannon IPA (New England IPA) and Raspberry Shandy. Both were FANTASTIC! I also tried a can of cider. Although the cider was not brewed at Union Brewing, it was absolutely delicious! I had a great experience at Union Brewing! Great Brewery right off the Monon in Carmel. If your not in Carmel, ride your bike up the Monon from as far south as downtown, its worth it. The facility is awesome, small little bar that completely opens to the back patio and grounds which include used cable spools for tables, a fire pit and a very laid back experience. I've always seen this place from the Monon but never been. We finally stopped in for a beer and loved it. Super chill environment and great for people watching. They have a lot of outdoor seating and large open windows with bar seating too. When we went in they were transitioning between new brewers, so only had guest taps. The beer selection is decent and they have a stout that is wonderful and tastes good. The bartenders are great and happy to offer you samples of whatever beer you want to try on tap. The quality of beer at Union Brewing Company is not what I am used to from being at other breweries in Indy, which is probably what makes it unique and stand out from the competition. It is a good place to unwind and relax after a long day at work, and in the end, that is what really matters to me. Came here the other day to try the place. It's a great location just off the bike trail with a spacious patio. The inside itself is pretty small and tight, but it's got some charm. The beer options were limited. They had about 4 taps of their own beer and 4 guest taps. We tried the milk stout and the moroccan blonde. The blonde was actually really good, slightly sweet and well balanced. Unfortunately, the milk stout was pretty bad. Tasted lots of bitterness in it similar to 100% dark chocolate and even some soapy off flavors in the beer. TLDR: Patio is great, and stick to the lighter beers read more

Definitely a place where the locals come, as evidenced by the hanging mugs of mug club members. Great location right on the Monon and no one cares how you're dressed! I've been dressy after a work event and the. still in workout gear from bike riding and neither get a second glance! Staff and customers are friendly and the huge patio is perfects during the day or evenings! I love visiting in the fall particularly! Food trucks will post up which is a great benefit and the atmosphere as a whole has a fun energy. The brews aren't my favorite and I've occasionally encountered a flat tap but the staff is eager to rectify every time. I frequently consider Union a "dive brewery" and that may be one of the best parts to go with the patio or fire pit in the fall! Unexpected. I was in this shopping center visiting another business and saw a brewery in the corner, so I had to check it out. It's a rather small space inside with maybe about 10 or so beers on tap. The place was actually packed with a standing room only crowd of people enjoying craft beer. Some folks were outside. There is a larger patio area with tables chairs and a fire pit out there. Union Brewery is located in an outdated strip mall off of North Rangeline Road in Carmel ... looking at the front of the building, you might think twice about going in ... don't think about ...just do it! It's a small brewery with a huge & beautiful outdoor patio that backs up to the Monon Trail. Went on a Sunday afternoon & was pleasantly surprised to see they had a 2 piece band playing on the patio. The music was eclectic (for Carmel) and a welcome change! They played everything from the Beatles, Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan. They offer a range of different types of beer - I'm confident you'll find something you'll enjoy. I truly hope the rumors that Carmel will be demolishing this shopping center aren't true. Carmel needs more places that offer a casual & unique atmosphere! I'm only sorry I didn't discover this hidden gem sooner. read more

I'm torn on this place. Several things about it that I want to love, but my experience never seems to live up to my expectation. On the positive side, they have a huge outside patio area. They are located right off the Monon Trail in the middle of downtown Carmel and have plenty of outside seating and entertainment options outdoors. The cons: This place is so hipster that they ignore normal good business practices. Both times that I have been here, I felt like I was an uninvited guest at a party. There is nothing wrong with having a regular crowd at your establishment, but I still believe there should be effort to welcome all customers. The beer: I give a 4 out of 5. This place is the BOMB. It's a great hangout for someone who likes a chill and friendly atmosphere (probably everyone am I right??). From the outside, you have no idea about the party going on inside. I went on a Sunday evening and the place was the crowded in a good way. The whole space opens up to an incredible grassy area and overlooks the Monon. You really feel like you are in one of your friend's backyards and there is even a bonfire pit and a little frisbee golf set. There is a ton of simple wood seating sprawled out on the grass that you can move around and accommodate for your group. There is also great people watching and I could stay here all day if the weather was nice! Oh yeah... the beer! That's good too. ;) I'm not even a huge beer drinker normally but loved the Lemonade Summer Shandy and Irish Ale. There are a lot of options and they change out regularly. Definitely recommend as your next friendship meet-up. Reggae Grill (yummy Jamaican food) also backs up to the same grassy backyard area, so I would definitely recommend grabbing some food there, drinks here, and staking your spot outside for the evening. read more

Located adjacent to School of Rock Carmel, if you don't know what you're looking for you'll miss this place. I was going to see a friend's band play and had to circle around. The entrance is somewhat confusing. I wasn't sure how to enter because there were people in the beer garden and brewing equipment as you walk in the door. The bartender had her hands full with people hanging around distracting from guests wanting to order. They have several of their own drafts on tap as well as many bottled beers to choose from, but they wait can be long. I don't know if they have a menu, but wasn't offered one while I was there. Apparently they allow dogs and very drunk guests, which was somewhat annoying when they'd cause a commotion (the human more so than the four legged friends getting to know each other). Their website has a calendar, but its not current. The restroom situation leaves much to be desired with a single stall for women and the line grew while I was there. With so many other breweries to choose from in the Indianapolis area, I think they need to step up their game. read more
