My kids LOVE this place. The gorgeous hiking trails nearby are spectacular and easy for any age. One travels along the water and gorge, another snakes througg a stunning, lush green forest along a creek, where at any moment, you think you might see a dinosaur emerge. The resort is quiet and night, and has a well-appointed store for all of your needs. It's about a 45 minute drive to Crater Lake, so a great alternative to staying at The Lodge at Crater Lake. We stayed in an older cabin, but I hear the reonnvated ones are quite nice and we look forward to staying in one of those next times. Overall, this is a great place to stay if you want to a "Huckleberry Finn" type setting where kids got ice cream from the local store (yes, this place has that too) and tromp barefoot through creeks. That is how if felt, as if you were taken back to simpler times. read more

To be honest, we didn't stay there. Due to forest fires in the area and very slow traffic following the solar eclipse, we were unable to make it to the lodge for the night we paid for. I have two significant complaints: 1) We realized a few days prior to our stay that the smoke in Oregon from the fires would make our stay problematic and tried to cancel, but the owners have a 30 day no cancellation no exceptions policy. Other lodgings on our itinerary allowed cancellation within as little as 48 hours. 2) We called the office to inform the hosts we would be late and they failed to inform us that the lodge was completely unreachable due to road closures. We suffered many hours of horrendous traffic in a futile attempt to reach the lodge. The hosts could have been honest and let us know the situation so we could try to re-route or just accept the situation and plan accordingly. Instead they only seemed interested in effectively charging us for our non-visit. read more

We staid here one night after we spent the day exploring Crater Lake. Beautiful location and the staff was very friendly. The guy at the front desk gave us some suggestions for short hikes and where to find the lava tubes. (That was AMAZING.) Ice cream was a fun way to end the day. We staid in Cabin 8 and it was clean, had a microwave and mini fridge, hot shower! Would definitely stay again. I was somewhat nervous because there were some mixed reviews. talk about cute and quaint! we absolutely loved it! our lil cabin was so much more than we expected. the staff was above and beyond hepful and friendly. the restaurant was delightful. the gift shop had everything we needed. and there was even a convenience store for food and supplies!!! to fall asleep and wake up in that environment with the creek babbling away snuggled in our little cozy cabin...simply heaven on earth. can't wait to return. next time, we get a cabin with a fireplace! read more

Well if you want a peaceful place to go with no cell phone service, Internet access or cable you have found it. If you want a comfortable bed keep looking. There were a group of us and we stayed in cabins 13 and 18. 13 is larger with central heat so it was not cold even though it snowed everyday we were there for 4 days. Cabin 18 only has a wood stove and a space heater. It was very cold and the woman at the desk was not very helpful when we asked for another heater. She said flippantly that the wood stove wood heat the cabin. I had to get rather short with her because the wood was wet and green and there was no kindling making it rather difficult to start a fire in the wood stove. While the owners are friendly most of the staff are not so much. Housekeeping is hoping you don't want anything during your stay and is hoping you won't notice they don't mop floors, clean stoves or kitchen cabinets. We were told we would be able to use the game room but found that not to be true as the heater was broken. Deep forest scenery though read more

When I arrived at this "resort", I took one look at the shabby shacks in the trees and decided not to stay. There is no TV and "limited" wifi. We stayed for two days in a lodge room. The room had a comfy bed, sink, microwave and mini fridge, but no A/C or bathroom. There is a community bathroom down the hall with a shower which was fine, except that it was really dark in the lodge hallway at night trying to navigate the way to the bathroom for a late nigh potty break. Also, no Wifi to speak of and no phone service at ALL. We were glad to go unplugged, but some may not like it so much. Beckie's food is amazing and staff is super nice. read more

On our roadtrip we had planned on staying in Sunriver. When we found out it was 2 hours from Crater Lake we decided to go with something closer. The closest lodge to Crater Lake is the Crater Lake lodge but it was more than we were wanting to pay. Union Creek "Resort" was only 54/night and about 20-30 minutes from the Lake. Perfect. We weren't going to arrive until 9pm so the lobby woman left us an envelope with our receipt and put our key inside our room. We stayed in the lodge part which is a room in a hallway with about 9 others and a mens bathroom and a womens bathroom shared with a shower. Of course we didn't mind this for our short stay, we were just looking for a place to sleep but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who plans on being longer than a night. I don't know anything about the cabins. The lodge was definitely a little dusty and eerie, we didn't even see anyone the whole time we were there and were beginning to wonder if we were in the right place! In the morning I spoke to a girl in the lobby and she was very polite and helpful with how to get to Crater Lake. Once again, fine for what we wanted it for but definitely get a cabin and don't stay in the lodge if you are staying more than one night or really like your privacy. I would hate to have waited to use a shower! The only neat option about the lodge, is that if you are with a big party you can rent out the entire lodge for your family! read more

You could not ask for a more convenient location to Crater Lake, Mill Creek Falls, Natural Bridges, rafting in Shady Cove, etc. Beautiful scenery! WATCH YOUR BILL!! They charge more than their website advertises. I questioned them about this (prior to our stay) and they said they would honor the lower prices if I brought copies of the pages with the lower prices. When we checked in, the guy didn't even look at them. He gave me a story that we hadn't been charged for things that there is no charge for. We had 2 cabins (1 vacation rental and 1 cabin). The vacation rental has a cleaning fee, but you are responsible for washing the dishes and towels. The website said the fee was $45.00, we were charged $59.00. Their website said the pet fee was $12.00 per pet per night, we were charged $15.00 per pet per night. We were there for 3 nights and had 3 pets. I took their word that we were charged the right prices, but when we got home, I checked the receipt and found they had charged us the higher prices. I have written them twice with no response. We also had trouble with the hot water and coffee maker, in the smaller cabin. They were both luke warm, at best. They did fix the hot water. I feel that we were lied to. Beware!!! It is a nice setting and the restaurant and ice cream parlor are great. Pies are really good. read more

My husband and I stopped for lunch on a day trip from Ashland to Crater Lake. The pictures of the café do not do it justice. This is a charming, well maintained log cabin café and we both enjoyed the food. They advertise homemade soups and I tried the 1/2 sandwich/soup combo with lima bean and ham soup with a turkey sandwich. Nothing special about the sandwich but the soup was very good. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak dinner. This was also a 10 and we could have split this meal and both had plenty to eat. Of course, we also had to try their famous pie. They had around 7 choices which made it difficult to choose. We tried the berry and the chocolate cream. Again, both were wonderful. Please note that we went on a Tuesday and stopped for lunch around 11:30. The place filled up quickly. Thus, there may be a wait. They are also in the process of opening up a smaller ice cream, coffee and hot dog hut. We would have liked to have stopped on the way back from Crater Lake for a coffee to help us wind our way home. We did the Living Social Deal. Our family stayed in Cabin #7. It was super cute and rustic. It had obviously been updated very recently. The bathroom was beautiful and there was newer lodge pole furniture throughout. My kids didn't like that there wasn't a TV but I was thrilled that there wasn't one. (They did discover WI-Fi for their I-pods). We went in March and I don't recommend that for viewing Crater Lake but if you want to play in the snow-you're set! We comfortable slept 5 and could have added one more. (It says 7 but that would be 2 in a double bed-just a little too cozy for us). I read the other reviews and I think perhaps they were not in updated cabins? Ours was clean and well maintained (although there is not maid service unless you ask). My only complaint for the area is we couldn't find anywhere with remotely healthy food. Luckily we had a kitchen to cook most meals and splurged on calories one night and had pizza in Prospect. read more

I wish we could have stayed longer! My sister and I were planning a get-away with our husbands and wanted to see Crater Lake. One of my friends recommended Union Creek after her stay, and I am so glad she did! We rented a cabin for the night and it was so perfect! The entire area is gorgeous, and we were right off the creek! There were two fire pits outside which were perfect for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. The cabins are pet friendly, so we were able to bring our golden retriever. The general store has a nice selection, but if they don't have something you need just take a quick drive to Prospect's general store and you'll be set : ) There's no cell reception, but who needs that when you're enjoying so much beauty and nature around you?! Crater Lake is about a 20 minute drive- but so worth it! The drive is gorgeous and you'll more than likely stop a few times to take some photos. We went to Beckie's for breakfast and it was delicious and filling! I would definitely take another trip to Union Creek! read more

Had an emergency situation, four women stuck in the snow. Two had to hike a couple miles, then hitchhike to the resort for help. All that was needed was a landline phone or access to their wifi so we could get help before it got dark. They refused several times. Beckys café across the street did not have wifi, but got us a landline. Beckys made a call to the resort due to it being an emergency and they still refused. They lost several customers as of yesterday. read more

This place was more run down than rustic. If we had any other option for a place to go, we would have left. The word resort in the name is not an accurate depiction of what you will receive once you are there. Our bed was like concrete, the bathroom smelled horribly and the carpet was filthy. The cabin was extremely small and there were no amenities that you would typically expect at a resort. This was WAY overpriced. I think it is worth 1/3 of the actual price we paid, however since you are literally in the middle of nowhere you are forced to endure their obvious price guaging. We would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

My family recently stayed at Union Creek Resort and had a marvelous time hiking the trails around the resort, sitting around a campfire in front of our cabin, driving up to picturesque Crater Lake, and dining at Beckie's Cafe. I love their delicious pies, but I would have to say that the homemade cinnamon rolls are my favorite! One of them is plenty for two people! Union Creek Resort is definately the place for nature lovers. It was so nice to escape the big city and enjoy the relaxing peace and tranquility of this charming place. We try to tell our fellow Texans what they are missing by not vacationing in Oregon! We'll definately be planning a return trip! read more

I've stayed here twice, and would not hesitate to go back. What a great time... Stayed here last fall. I got rained into the lodge for the weekend, couldn't see Crater Lake. But I had a wonderful respite from cell phones, TVs, and the like.They kept a fire going in the huge fireplace in the community room, with chairs and sofa you just sink into and curl up in with a good book. I stayed in the lodge rooms, which are exactly what they tell you they are, shared bath, no TV, no phone. Just like way back when... It was perfect. The restaurant right across the street is small and cozy. Food is great and the staff is very pleasant. And the pies, OMG. There's a small general store for anything else you need. I had everything I needed right there in one resort. So we went back a few weeks ago. I got to see Crater Lake this time. I was offered a cabin for the price of a room. You have to realize that they are limited by some governmental historical department as to what they can do with the place, so they cannot do anything different with the outside of the cabins, which look just as they did way back when. I could not believe my eyes when I walked in the door. The cabin had been completely gutted and remodeled. Hard wood floors, beautiful kitchen cabinets, a king size pine poster bed, (the tall ones you have to climb onto, so cool), knotty pine half way up the walls. The walls and ceiling even had the strips of wood along the seams of the drywall just like the cabin I grew up going to in summers. The bath was large, everything new, and the shower was a huge walk-in and beautifully tiled. I took some remodeling hints home from this little cabin. We sat next to the creek in the evening and listened to the creek running right in front of us, and they have fire pits where you can build your own little campfire. It was a wonderful romantic getaway. I think I made some points with this one. She loved it. read more

My husband and I, and my parents stayed at Union Creek Resort for 3 days. We are very happy with our stay and the accommodations. My husband is in a wheelchair and the cabin, especially the bathroom, was very wheelchair friendly. We are very thankfully to find a place as nice as Union Creek that really cares about its guests and accommodations. The cabin was recently updated, the bathroom was gorgeous and the resort grounds were very well maintained. We look forward to staying again when we visit the area. We stayed in the lodge building itself. It was my first experience with sharing a bathroom with everyone. That was ok, it was only taken once when I needed it. They have separate bathrooms for men and women. They have sinks in the room, but not in the bathrooms. The shower was so hard to keep on temperature. It would go to the extreme hot and cold. The room was outdated, but charming and rustic. It was very musty smelling, but having the windows open greatly helped that. The rooms were clean, but the beds were horrible in room 6. One bed was super hard like when sleeping on it your arms and legs would fall asleep. The other bed had two mattresses instead of a box spring and mattress. That was too soft and hurt to sleep on. The people are super nice working there. The resort is wonderfully located. I recommend it but make sure to try out the beds. read more

this place is cute and super close to crater lake, but clearly has no competition, otherwise they would fix a few super annoying problems. most of my complaints involve noise in the lodge, where you share A bathroom with the other guests. the doorknobs were janky and loud, and if you werent startled awake by the clatter of every guest trying to get into their room, you would be by the loud noise of the heavy door shutting in it's poorly fitted doorway. walls are paper thin, and they do not filter guests by whether or not they might have a screaming infant or loudly inquisitive toddler. when i suggested to the desk staff they consider not letting screaming children in the shared space, i was advised to rent a cabin next time....touché all in all, i'd stay there again if i was going back to crater lake, just bring earplugs and your own beer and ice cream!! read more

We stayed for 4 nights around the end of June. We rented Cabin 13 for 5 of us - my parents, my husband and myself, and our son - and also our two dogs. There was plenty of space with 3 bedrooms (1 room with a king bed adjacent to the full bath, 2 rooms with 2 double beds each) and 1.5 baths. The place was clean and comfortable. The kitchen had all the basic hardware needed for cooking, and plates, utensils, etc. Towels and linens are provided, as well as soap, shampoo, dish liquid, laundry detergent/fabric softener, and firewood/matches/tinder for the indoor fireplace. No phone provided, and no cell service, so if you need anything you need to walk to the lodge. Wireless is provided, but the signal didn't reach our cabin - we did however get a reliable signal at the front of the lodge or by the ice cream store. That was a nice pro in a way because it encouraged us to disconnect from the internet, but we still had access when needed. The lodge was a nice walk and the store had a good range of supplies to buy if needed, such as milk, eggs, cheese, marshmallows, bread - though a bit expensive, kind of like a mini mart in items stocked. There were also DVDs available to rent for $2, which we watched on my laptop. Cabins were spaced far enough apart for privacy and quiet, though our son did join some of the "neighbor" kids for fun in evenings. We also tried the pit meat food cart (very reasonable prices) and the ice cream store. Beckie's restaurant is also right there and has good reviews, but we didn't have a chance to try it as we cooked most of our food - perhaps next time. The back of the lodge has a foosball table and pool table. The resort is also very close to the Union Creek trail and also a short paved trail that runs by the Rogue River for some very scenic views of the canyons. There is also a longer trail, about 3.5 miles, that goes all the way to where the Rogue River runs underground in a lava tube - a nice hike and view. It is about a 30 minute drive to Crater Lake. For comparison, we took a look at the other place we had considered staying at, Diamond Lake, and that looked way more crowded/congested than Union Creek. We were happy to have chosen Union Creek. Now why only give this place 4 instead of 5 stars? Firstly, at the end of June it was rather chilly the first night, and the heat wasn't working. A friendly employee came out to turn the heat back on, but it shut off right away, so we asked them again. It turned out that there was no fuel. They provided two space heaters in the meantime, as they weren't sure that a fuel truck would be able to come up that day - but a truck came in that evening and so the heat was running and everyone was happy. The other issue was that the dryer didn't work... so when we ran laundry on the last day and found that we couldn't dry our clothes, we had to pack up wet clothes for the drive home. Hopefully they will fix this issue for the next group that stays in Cabin 13. Overall the staff were pleasant, though the lady at the front desk by the lodge/store was rather grumpy and taciturn. Overall, if you are fine with occasional heat and dryer issues, I'd heartily recommend Union Creek as a relaxing getaway for a summer vacation stay. read more

I spent a few days around Thanksgiving in a cozy cabin at Union Creek and had a ball--even though it was pouring rain. The resort is literally across the street from one of the Rogue River's most spectacular reaches, and a few miles flat walking distance on the Rogue River Trail to other amazing scenery. There is also a network of trails that leave right from the resort, including a spectacular easy uphill hike along Union Creek through some very impressive old growth. Saw waterfalls and kingfishers, and the two dogs thought it was the best vacation ever. When there's snow, the cross-country skiing must be superlative. The service was friendly and the price was affordable. The cabin (#3) is rustic, clean, cute, warm, and cosy. It is a perfect size for two. My only feedback is that it would have been great to have a bedside table on both sides of the bed. The shower head has somewhat low water pressure and there is no bathtub. The bed mattress is soft. There are pleasant trails nearby and it was a great place to stay during our visit to Crater Lake. Although we did not use the communal fire pits outside, it was a good feature and we saw others enjoying a campfire outside on a cold night. read more

We have stayed in the small cozy cabins twice in the last year. This is a wonderful getaway. It is a 20 minute drive from Crater Lake, and is surrounded by rivers, streams, waterfalls, trails within walking distance. If you drive 10-15 minutes in any direction, there is more! You won't have phone service but the internet works well enough to check your email. At night, you can actually see the stars and there is a place for a bonfire. In the summer, they rent bikes. In the winter, you can rent snowshoes. The little shops and restaurant on site are incredibly friendly, tasty, and cute. They make lovely pies. I have fond memories of this place and I cannot wait to go back again. It is a great place to bring kids to let them explore and roam around! read more

We booked the largest cabin for 3 nights. Upon arrival we immediately noticed the poor condition of the cabin. The appearance was nice on the surface only. The floors all slanted towards the middle of the building. In several places the floor completely sunk when stepped on appearing as though the subfloor had severe water damage. It was like stepping in a hole. Few windows had coverings. Someone tried to get in a window and side door in the middle of the night and with no protection nor internet/phone service there was little we could do. The place was awful! We left early and requested some kind of compensation to no avail, in person or email. No response. We will never return!!! Don't waste your time or money!!! Crater Lake is awesome but take a little extra time in travel and stay elsewhere. read more

For starters, when we checked in, the person behind the counter was about as welcoming as a warden at a federal prison. But ok, so far, so good. We made the mistake of booking a room at this establishment in the lodge itself. We found that these rooms rely on shared bathrooms down the hall. I went on vacation needing to unplug from real life and just get away for a few days and this place was perfect. If you can't survive without wifi (it's spotty at best) or cell service this place is not for you but if you can this resort is a treat. Beckie's cafe serves large portions you can either share or take back to your room or cabin and put in the fridge for later. The beds were so comfy I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning (great down comforters) and the lodge has a great old feel to it. It is on the National Register of Historic Places so it has great old character but is really clean. My sister and I talked with the owner for about 30 minutes our last night there and he was very welcoming and genuine. I will be back and enjoy even more of this resort and nearby Crater Lake. read more

We had a fantastic experience at Union Creek Resort. We stayed in Cabin 2, which had a queen and twin bed (in the same room). The cabin had a full stocked kitchen, including a stove, oven and microwave. The heater works! Our room was toasty for the duration of our stay. A potential downside for some is there is no cellphone reception. The lodge offers WiFi though and I was able to send an email from the cabin. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend and will stay there again next time I visit Crater Lake, read more

I loved staying at this unique historical lodge nestled in the tall pines with a clear creek running alongside the property. The cool air was soothing after a very bright hot dry day at Crater Lake. A beautiful river gorge is right across the street. The rooms were very clean. Rooms did not have an in-room bathroom which may be a problem for some. The restaurant across the street was wonderful and reasonably priced. We ate there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wi-Fi is spotty but, heh, this is a place to get away from it all. Staff was very helpful, even carried our bags for us. The mart on first floor was also very convenient for sundries and snacks. read more

Planning to go again... My family and I are hoping, more like longing to go back to Union Creek. I can already hear the babbling water and smell those sweet country pies baking. Ever since we had our family reunion there this summer, my husband and I have talked about going back again. For a very meager price (less than even a Super 8 or Best Western) we had a clean, place with washer/dryer, kitchen and most of all, some adorable rustic charm. I normally do not write reviews, but when I logged on to consider some plans of returning this winter for snowmobiling, I noticed some "not so nice" reviews. That makes me sad, because I believe if you go knowing it is an historical place built in the early 1900's and realize they are preserving that while trying to bring in some modern conveniences, you can enjoy yourself. While there this summer, our family took some relaxing walks by the breath taking Rogue River and invigorating hikes through the huge forest. The trees are amazing, you can't even see the tops of them they are so tall. While there we also took some adventures river rafting and jet boating not too far from Union Creek, as well as taking the short drive to Crater Lake. We picked up some fun treasures from their little country store and stopped in every chance we could to fill up at Beckie's Restaurant. If you like breakfast, well, you have to eat at Beckie's. It is not for the faint of heart. All I can say is yum...I have 3 growing boys and let me tell you, between the delicious food at Beckie's and knowing they were going to get to enjoy the great outdoors all day, they got out of bed in a hurry. Our only regret is that we didn't make it through the whole list of pies before it was time to leave. We'll pick up where we left off when we return. Check it out for yourself...if you like peace and quiet, the tranquility of flowing water, historical rustic charm, nice folks, delicious food and lots of adventure around the bend...then you ought to give this place a try...just one night...then you will ask for two, then three...then it will be time to go home...and you will be longing to go again. read more

we order the big cabin (13) at 10 June 2011. we ordered the cabin by Phone and we said we are coming with 2 babys that need cribs, they said they got 2 cribs, when we came there was only one crib and our baby fall down from bad at night, when we complained a bout that the owner told us that a guest took one of the cribs. . . in General the place need RENEW fast, was very dirty, old furnichers. . . keep away. read more

I wish I had read some of these reviews before I went. Unfortunately, I didn't, and talk about paying the price. For $140 we got "almost a cabin," not well stocked, little privacy, and a nice breeze (even a cabin shouldn't have a breeze). We expected to cook our own food, but the prices at the store left us wondering that if we spend the money, would it be good because the prices were so high that we doubted they had quick turn around. Deciding to eat across the street at the cafe, Beckie's, we realize, even more, that our vacation wasn't going to be a pleasant stay at a resort. After waiting for nearly an hour for a place to sit, they had to ask us, on a day in the upper 90s, if we would like something to drink; YES! WATER PLEASE. We had to request water. I would have thought they would have that on our table. They knew how many they were seating (our place settings were there), and they knew it was hot outside. They probably do that hoping they can sell pricey beverages. Once inside, the food was nothing more than prepackaged, frozen processed food, probably supplied by Sysco. Hoping for a taste of homemade pie, we splurged, but, again, we were disappointed. I wish the waitress that served us would have told us that we could have bought a whole pie for as much as we paid for a few pieces. I guess she forgot! Once we finished choking down our food, a lovely waitress, just coming on shift started talking to us; she's the one that told use we could have bought a whole pie.
