I really wanted to like this place as my husband went here for breakfast and said it was good. I also saw someone's breakfast order today and it looks like they use Costanzo's rolls which earns them points. My experience was not so good. The service was great and I could tell the cook was really busting his butt so I do want to give credit there; however the interiors really needs some cleaning and upgrades. It was not clean. For the food, it took forever so don't come here extremely hungry. After our food arrived I was really surprised at the "beef" they served me because it honestly looked like a Dollar Tree Ribeye and if you don't know what I'm talking about then google it. I was really disappointed since the beef was more expensive than my husbands chicken yet his was much better and they gave you more! Truly disappointing. Probably will not be returning. read more

We had dropped our car off at Ziebart and as it was early and breakfast seemed a good idea, and this place was right next store, we figured, let's check it out. Glad we did. Old school American diner. I had the chicken fried steak with sausage gravy, eggs, home fries with onions and sprinklings of bacon. Everything perfect. Wife is real "funny" about eggs (in a not funny way) and she pronounced these eggs perfect. They also offer grilled danish. Decent prices, large portions. If you leave hungry, you weren't trying. Well it is that but I was pleasantly surprised when my husband and I went here on a Friday night. My husband ordered the fish fry and I got the chicken tenders. The question is, can you adopt a family, if you have a "legal union" rather than a marriage, i.e. same sex marriage in states where it is not legal to do so. Well the answer should be yes. And this restaurant is the pioneer of campaigning for same sex marriage to be legal everywhere in the world. Hence they sell "Same Sex Souvlaki" and "Equality Eggs" and "One Rule For All Omelettes" and so on. You can even get "Fight For Freedom Frittata." If you so wish. What to get: Souvlaki dinner. I've been here just once, and I had the Chicken Souvlaki. The chicken was tender and moist and hefty and delicious and beautiful, as was the greek dressing. The pita was delicious and amazing too. The chicken wasn't my fave Souvlaki in town but then this is the best town in the world for American style Souvlaki, so that's not really a criticism. It's utterly AMAZING to be honest. It's very very very well marinaded too which always is the best way. Not dry at all. Compare it to Towne and Spilios and Wehrle, right up there with them. And Altons too. The salad was a real downer. It tasted soggy and old. Very disappointing because Towne's Greek salad is fresh and crisp. I won't avoid Union because of this, but it was a shame because had they nailed the salad, this would have been one of my fave places to go for Greek. I will definitely be back to try other stuff though. And if you don't want Onions on your food, make sure you specify. After all, they don't call this the Onion Family Restaurant for nothing. And after all, you ain't seen nothing til you're down on a Muffin. And my word, I have been, more than once. Way more than once. And once again, same sex marriage FTW. read more

Becoming a regular here. Biscuits and gravy portion is huge with tons of tasty sausage gravy. Local eggs. Bacon was crispy and not paper thin. Boyfriend had this amazing concoction called a Country Bennie which was English muffins with sausage patties on top, then poached eggs. All smothered in sausage gravy and served with home fries. (We were told by the waitress that this was a new menu addition when she came by to ask how we liked our food). Iced tea was fresh tasting and well made. Coffee is the local roaster (forget the name) but they make it stronger (or maybe this part of town has better water) than most diners so it was actually good. The coffee here is better than any diner we've been to honestly. Lemon meringue and coconut cream pies were very good. Also tried their fish fry which was excellent. Comes with a potato (I got german potato salad) macaroni salad or mac and cheese, and cole slaw. All of the sides were good. Another breakfast special was the apple cinnamon pancake with eggs and bacon which was insanely huge and amazing. I managed to eat one of the two pancakes, they're huge. The apples were fresh, the pancakes were crusted with cinnamon and sugar making crunchy edge bits. They were just fantastic. Staff were super nice and attentive. Restaurant was pretty quiet at 6:45. They open at 6am and close at 8pm daily. Cash only, but they conveniently have an ATM inside. We also went for breakfast on a weekend and while the restaurant is much more full then, it's full of older people who are quiet and unobtrusive. We love this place. You should try this place out! Just across the street is the ice cream stand made out of a train car. So if you don't gorge yourself too much here you can get a cone! read more

This little diner is one of my in law's favorites!! They like to go out for dinner but obviously can't because of covid but have ordered take out. Their favorite meal is the Florentine Chicken. It is a chicken breast smothered in spinach, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese which is served with a potato and choice of soup or salad. My daughter, granddaughter and I were looking for restaurant for breakfast. We stopped at a couple of places that had 1/2 hour waits. With a 3 year old in tow, it's tough to wait. We stumbled on Union Family Restaurant and we're so glad we did. The eggs Benedict special was outstanding. Home fries were delicious! Not burnt like a lot of places. Fresh fruit was really fresh...strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe, and grapes...yum. Service was exceptional. This was a great spot to stop in for a delicious dinner after a 5 hour hike from Jersey! The portions were huge and everything is homemade starting with the soups down to the desserts! We tried the special Mediterranean Grilled Cheese-Texas style Italian bread with feta cheese, Kalamata olives, baby spinach, red onion and your choice to add Grilled chicken breast- we added the chicken. The sandwich alone was huge- and it came with fries, Greek potatoes or Homemade soup of the day. Let me start by saying how tasty the Chipotle Sweet Potato soup was- it was the perfect mixing of sweet with a little kick of spice. Next, the sandwich was beyond perfect! The grilled chicken was tender and the feta cheese melted into the chicken and bread just right. My husband tried the Greek potatoes as his side and they were equally delicious. We had no room for dessert but heard from others how great the Homemade Rice pudding was so we had to give it a try- and boy was it good! Upon entering we were greeted and told to choose any seat we felt comfortable in, our server was a sweetheart and was there for all that we needed. I go there and am a regular. There is a 1 star review here and they mention that the waitress commented about being interrupted from talking to the regulars. Your belly can't help but to feel giddy at the sight of a menu containing full breakfasts for under $5 (eggs, choice of meat, toast and homefries for $4.80). Many omelets are also available with homefries and toast for $5-$6. Inexpensive, cash-only diner. We went to Union for breakfast today based on the strength of the Yelp reviews. First the bad - parking lot is a teeth-shattering, suspension-popping affair. The kitchen made a mistake with both our orders but the waitress quickly remedied. I ordered 3 eggs over hard and got 2 eggs over easy. Rye toast instead of wheat. my friend received a different omelette than he had ordered. Fortunately, our waitress was very pleasant and quick to remedy. The good. Food - once we got our corrected orders - was pretty good. And cutting out the use of plastic meant that the prices were less expensive than say the dreadful Olive Branch down the street. Portions were generous. I'll give them 4 stars this first time and see ow well the next visit goes. read more

Great breakfast spot! My go-to is two eggs over medium, rye toast, and home fries. It'll definitely fill you up, for less than $5. Staff is super friendly too, props to Liz and Nancy! My roommate and I have become regulars for the summer, we really love that they're open earlier than most breakfast places. From the outside, it is just a diner. From the inside...it is also just a diner. But the food is definitely better than just a diner. Sure, it is a quest to hit every diner that I can in hoping the food is better than I would expect it to be from a greasy spoon and really, Buffalo does well at this. Union Family also does it well. This did not give me any sort of confidence, but at the same time the gentleman who greeted us did sincerely seem thankful we stopped in. So, hats off to you diner owner. I opted for the chicken souvlaki breakfast and a side of pancakes to share. The spouse grabbed the same but substituted the hashbrowns for fruit, which seemed like a crime, but we move forward. The almost identical meals came and it was entirely larger than I had anticipated. With a price around $10 for each, I did not expect larger portions, but they were at least above average. And that includes what seemed to be a whole pita each, although it said 1/2 on the menu. The chicken was flavored well and came with dill dip, which was better than what you might find as a salad dressing. You also get a bowl of feta. And I mean a full bowl of feta. Like, I could have covered everyone's plates in the place with feta and still had half left. Both meals were way better than I could have hoped for. On the downside, the coffee is just average and the bathrooms need some fixing. However, if you want a really solid breakfast without any disappointment, hit up UFR! read more
