Even though the restaurant has been around for a few years, we had never tried it out before.  It's a nondescript little strip, sort of in the middle of nowhere, however just 15 minutes from where we live.  The restaurant is nicely decorated and was very busy on a Friday night.  We were greeted, led to our friends at the bar, and immediately seated.  Their cocktails are very good.  I had the the Afterwards, made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, and my husband had the Silver Coast, made with Nolet's gin. Both were good enough for a second round.  The menu features steaks and chops, fish, crab cakes, burgers, and more.  We started with the calamari appetizer for the table, and my husband had the pear salad.  Both were delicious, and I really loved the peppadew peppers they toss on top of the calamari.  For entrees, two of us had the Mahi special, which was topped with a pineapple salsa and served over yellow rice.  My husband had the bone-in filet with a side of the most delicious oven roasted sweet potatoes. Wife I visited here tonight for our anniversary. Drove from Ellijay to try something different. We arriVed as they were opening for dinner service. Seated immediately. Browsed menu ordered mussels. About 5 min later was told that the mussels were bad. Off to a good start. Ok stuff happens, but could have said we're out. Wife comment was what else is bad. Well we found out. Order the calamari, salads, entree. Calamari came out smelled fishy, but fried nicely. Tomato sauce that came with calamari was tasteless and had to salt calamari to add to taste. About 4-5 mins into app salads appeared. Normally I like to finish one course before the other appears. I got a wedge salad wife got a house both were good but $8 & $6 a little to high$ for size. Duck Confit needs to have a lot more flavor again had to add salt. $26 a little high for portion and lack of flavor. Wife ordered the hanger steak $24 wife couldn't eat said it taste livery she hadthe chicchurri on the side but it didn't help. We had our granddaughter with us and she got a nice child portion of Alfredo pasta she was happy. Dessert was very disappointing Mousse was lacking any flavor, carrot cake still frozen on bottom layer and creme burlee was just off texture as well as flavor. All this for $112. Always been pleased. Was first taken by some friends. Since then, we've taken different friends 2 times, and gone by ourselves as well. Even going on weekends, they really turn the tables pretty quickly and it's never been a long wait. People are very friendly, quick to respond (taking orders, etc) overall a VERY positive experience! IF.....there is a negative AT ALL, it's slow/unusual to get refills on the sodas. Traveling the back roads today and came across this out of the way gem. They were full, but even without a reservation, it tookonlya few minutes for a table. Crabcskes for me with wilted spinich and mashed potatoes. Wife went with braised short ribs and roasted brussel sprouts. Son went for the seafood pasta. No complaints from anyone. This was our very first time dining here and it definitely won't be our last. What a gem hidden in a little strip center! Very unassuming. Don't be fooled by the outside appearance. The chefs here are masters! We came here for our 29th Anniversary dinner. We started with a wonderful salad which came with a miso dressing. Yum! I ordered the filet with Demi glaze, asparagus and scalloped potatoes. It was cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the blue plate special, Fried shrimp, coleslaw and fries. He said it was some of the best he'd ever had. We finished the meal with German cheesecake topped with fresh strawberries and chocolate mousse topped with blackberries. I ordered decaf coffee, it came with fresh cream and tasted like heaven. The ambience is lively with an equestrian flare. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!! You won't be disappointed. We had a lovely date night at Union Hill Grill tonight. We forget about Union Hill because it is a ways away. Sure glad we made it a destination by making reservations earlier in the week. We arrived about 10 minutes early and seated immediately. My husband saw some friends and went to speak to them. Waiter Kevin already had served me a glass of wine before my husband returned to the table. Awesome! I had the blue plate veal meatloaf. It was moist, tender, and most flavorful. I requested to sub roasted beets for the whipped potatoes and waiter Kevin was happy to oblige. My husband had the grouper special. It was accompanied by artichoke hearts, capers, tiny roasted potatoes, and sauteed arugula. He said it was fabulous and I did have a bite and must agree. We finished off our meal by sharing a wonderful slice of carrot cake. The place was packed but we did not feel rushed in anyway. Must give a shout out to our amazing waiter Kevin. He was covering all the tables in the bar area. I am always impressed by a waiter who writes nothing down and somehow gets it all perfect. He was taking orders at the table next to us and picking up our check and credit card as well. A real master of multi-tasking. Good bar, food is ok and above average. Home made potato chips are good but the blue cheese should be served on the side, smothering them is just too much. Pricey for their entrees but for the most part good food. Nice to have in Cherokee County. I would not sit at the tables only the bar as I believe service is too slow. I like the way they do water at the table with a bottle of cold water, sure it is tap but is very cold. Haven't gone back in a while, but they had inspections which were pretty low for this quality of restaurant. Seriously a dirty ice machine with buildup of mold inside and out. Meat sitting in water in sink thawing. Rated an 80-B. Won't get an iced drink there. Given the hours that they are really open, cleaning should be happening in the other hours. For many years we have been going to Union Hill Grill, but under their new ownership they have changed their menu and change their style. They have taken off the chop, which was one of our favorites. The price of their steaks has gone up about five dollars each. We ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and were given a glass of Cabernet. After complaining, the owner gave us what we ordered, but only because my husband went to the bar. The waitress kept hovering like a helicopter and instead of the normal linens on the table, we had a rough piece of paper over the table which kept bending up when we brought our arms up to eat. Not exactly 1st class for a meal that cost around $100 for two people. At the end of the meal, we had dessert which was from their new pastry chef. Not much of a choice on the dessert menu and it was very dry almost as though it was a week old! We won't be back. read more

Went to Union Hill Gqrill last night after reading the enormously good reviews. Most of them were 8 months or older. The service was good. We were seated right away in a booth. Atmosphere: nicely decorated, dim, but when we were there very noisy with two small groups who were loud. I had the Scottish Salmon which is actually an asian style dish. I had asked if it was an asian dish and the server told me it had some "German" ingredients in it. I didn't know bokoy sauce was German, lol. My wife ordered the crabcakes. My meal was ok but I think it was a little over-priced. My wife's crabcakes were ok, but more bread than crabmeat. I am used to eating Maryland crabcakes so I am a little biased. When the server came back to check on us, my wife told her the spinach had too much salt in it. She apologized and a few minutes later brought back some more spinach which was equally salty. The dish it came in had water in it which I guess is why it was so salty. We decided to order dessert. We had the creme brulet. Properly made it is supposed to be subtly sweet. Although tasty it was very sweet. Conclusion: Although the food IMHO was ok, it wasn't worth the price we paid for the meal. Perhaps since it came under new ownership their standards have come down. I certainly would not compare it with 5 star restaurants in Atlanta or Alpharetta. I may give it another chance but they have a somewhat limited menu. read more

We just went to this restaurant tonight and thought this must be a fantastic place according to the reviews. Here are my thoughts ... The place is nicely decorated - fits well into the environment of Canton. The service was excellent. I ordered scallops that had a sauce (which I took on the side - thank goodness) and ordered green beans and sauteed spinach. The sauce for the scallops was awful. I love green beans and am a big fan of Steam Fresh green beans by Birds Eye (?) Anyway, these beans tasted EXACTLY like Steam Fresh green beans. The spinach was OK. My scallops were good, but a little too salty. My husband ordered the veal meatloaf - the mashed potatoes tasted good, but tasted like the pre-made ones; i.e. Bob Evans mashed that you can find in the grocery store. He liked his veal meatloaf, however. Overall, we may go back - but the prices do not warrant frozen or pre-made foods. EVERYTHING should be made from scratch. Green beans are easy to make fresh and so are mashed potatoes. I simply do not know where their prices come from. Obviously in this neighborhood the rent is not an issue as it is in a little strip mall. So, what is the reason for the ridicuously high prices. We don't mind spending money on good food - let me underscore GOOD! This food was simply OK. read more

We moved from Buckhead and can't be more happy to have found this place. We call it our diamond in the rough. They are very accommodating and friendly. You can get dressed up or wear your riding/farm gear. I will say this. We like to take our children in for an early dinner and we have be given not so friendly looks from other customers. Four of us ate here tonight for the first time and we all raved about our experience. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was fabulous. We had crab cakes, lamb chops and fried chicken livers and everyone was very happy with their choices. The crab cakes were delicious lump crab and the lamb chops were perfectly cooked to medium, as requested. As good as the entrees were, the sides were different and delicious, with lots of choices. My boyfriend and I went here for date night and were very disappointed. This is our favorite restaurant and we have never had a bad experience but the service and food have gone way downhill. We were seated in a separate room that was just added where we had to walk outside to get to it. It was super loud in there (we couldn't hear each other), the lighting was terrible and the service was bad. The ambiance just wasn't the same as sitting in the main dining area. Our drink order was forgotten about and when our waitress finally brought our drinks we couldn't even drink them. The bartender clearly didn't know how to mix the old fashioned on the menu or the aperol spritz we ordered. Our food that came out was cold. I ordered a filet with green beans and brussel sprouts. My plate had noodles on it, chunks of corn and other pieces of food that were not supposed to be there. I'm not sure if something was accidentally put on my plate and wiped off or if I got a dirty plate. We both didn't eat much of our food and didn't bother to take it to go. It was so disappointing because we love this restaurant. Quality has gone way down and it was definitely not worth the expensive bill. We will be hesitant to go back here. read more

Best kept secret in Canton. Disregard the negative reviews. New owners, new chef and the already good food has been taken up a notch my last several visits. Locals flock to this restaurant daily and it's a great place for a family gathering or a cocktail. Wonderful staff and they will remember you and cater to you. Stopped in last night to check it out as we're new to the area. We loved it. Madison was our server and she welcomed us warmly and made great recommendations. The burger is AMAZING, like a thick cut of steak on a Holman & Finch bun. The sweet potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts were great as well. We moved to town from food-loving Decatur so we were glad to find a restaurant of that quality just down the road from us. We'll definitely be back. Don't complain about the food or you'll get asked to leave and not come back!!! My wife and I have been going to Union Hill since it opened. Have told many people about the restaurant and until last night, always felt it was good, consistent food with pretty good prices. Haven't liked some of the changes the new owners made, especially the hard paper table covers. We had friends in from Kansas City that lived in our neighborhood and wanted to go back to Union Hill Grill last night. Everything was fine until our steaks arrived. My wife's steak was a little undercooked, but she could live with it. My filet was so overcooked, there was no way to eat it. After a lengthy wait, a new steak arrived...it was so rare I couldn't eat it. Called the waiter back over (at this point the others in our party were finishing up their meals) and showed her, she then went and got the owner. The owner approached our table like she was mad at the world, asked me what I wanted her to do...I was trying to decide on something else when my wife told her I was hungry and everyone else had finished already...at this point she blurts out that my wife was rude to her, she was comping the meal and didn't want us back in her restaurant. We won't be...I plan on sharing my story with anyone that wants to know about Union Hill Grill. Keep that attitude up and you'll be wondering where the crowds went! See photo in pictures.... My post was to report factually and the owners response was not with what we experienced at Union Hill Grill. I stand behind my post as to its authenticity. We had been regular customers of the establishment since it opened. Had no problems with the decor, and certainly never implied the owner was unintelligent. Did have a problem with a meal prior to this, but it was made right and we were happy. The only time I recall complaining about having to wait past our reservation time, it was when it was approaching 20-25 minutes late, not 10 minutes. She has mixed me up with other friends who accompany us on a regular basis who have merely commented that they liked the original bread better better than what they are serving now, and that they wish they'd put a couple of the items that they took off the menu back on. Obviously the owner has been harboring a grudge about this for a long time. Just prior to this incident, we were in the restaurant and praised the job they were doing to both them and Beth, the prior owner who was there that night. If we felt about the restaurant the way she stated in her post, then why in this world would we continue to patronize the establishment? The owner confirmed a couple of things correctly in her response. One that both steaks were cooked improperly. And two, that she did have an attitude when she came to the table. We did ask the server to get the owner after the second steak came out raw and the other three people in our party were finished eating. Most of the statements made by the owner are just not true or were twisted to justify her nonprofessional response to the bad situation she created. Read and decide for yourself, and forget all the meaningless statements made that were meant to clutter and muddy up what really happened at this time, what would your response be to the owner coming to the table with an attitude after two screw-up's on their part? Oh my gosh, if you want Rednecks trying to be fancy this is definitely the place for you. I made reservations for my family birthday in advance. Once we arrived on time, we waited 15 minutes to be told, we only have a bar top available or it will be 45 minute wait. " "Even when we have reservations" I asked, "oh no we have another 3 spot wandering around here some where, I'll get your table ready right away" she said. I ordered a bourbon at the bar because it's my 53rd Birthday and I deserve it right. 20 minutes later, 35 minutes after our reservation, we get seated, no drink! BLAH, BLAH, hot water glasses, no ice, "I'm sorry we are out of bread", but let a regular walk in the door, boy you are greeted with a hug and seated immediately. Wow! This may be the hottest place in Hickory Flat, but put this reaturant in Virginia Highlands, Alpharetta or even Woodstock and they will be out of business in a week. This may not be hot snot on a silver platter in Atlanta, but it sure is a cold booger on a paper plate in canton. Wow, a $200 birthday dinner, that could have been 20 lap dances from a std ridden stripper at a club in Atlanta and still been better. We made reservations & still had to wait atleast 30 min or more to be seated. The hostess was running around almost in a panic... The whole experience felt very disorganized.
