When we first moved to Canton this was the first "nicer dining" restaurant we went to. My husband, our 2 year old daughter, and I just moved from South Florida to Canton and we're trying different places, and getting to know the area and local cuisine. Honestly we were skeptical coming from some big cities (Fort Lauderdale & Miami) where great food is fairly easy to find. Upon first sight, Union hill Grill is in a small strip store front type of place, which you find strange considering it is on the pricier higher end side. But once you eat here, in our opinion, it's worth every penny. It's a Farm to Table approach to cuisine. And they do have a seasonal menu which changes based on what they are able to get locally and fresh, which is great! More restaurants should adopt this mentality, since it is so sustainable and great for local businesses/farmers, as well as the environment. To top it off, everything we've had here is deliciously fresh, and quite tasty. We've had the whipped Ricotta appetizer, they've actually been out of this the two last times we came here, it seems to be popular which is totally understandable! Filet, which cuts like butter. The short rib which falls apart without a knife (this is my personal fav) I've always gotten it with the Brussel Sprouts as the side and, it's phenomenal. And the Scottish salmon which is perfectly cooked and fresh. Needless to say we love this place. It's our go to for taking guests when they come visit us. Highly recommended. read more

They had a issue with the Bar ordering our drinks so they comped our 2nd round, fabulous service! I had the spinach salad, and it was delicious! Fresh and tasty. I wasn't sure I'd like goat cheese, but it was just the right amount and flavor. Once you find UHG, you will be happy. Service can be quick. If you want to relax don't order entree at least until appetizer is served. When crowded, bartender has difficulty meeting demand, so figure that into timing. My party of 3 shared excellent calamari. Planned on snapper, but was swayed to shrimp scampi special; something I rarely order as it tends to be a glob of cheese and garlic overpowering shrimp, maybe fit for a truck/stop. This is by far the best kept secret five star (*****) restaurant in north metro Atlanta! The filet' is so incredibly tender, asparagus is so thick and fresh, and their mashed potatoes are perfect! The Maine Lobster tails are so sweet also... oh and I highly recommend the Creme' Brûlée for dessert! The bar makes perfect drinks and the service is always friendly... Count me out! Used to Frequent this restaurant but on this occasion with friends it was awful. Brussels sprouts are nowhere near what they used to be. Too large, dry and burnt, the carrots that came with the hanger steak were burnt crispy, the salad (which used to be Outstanding miso dressing), was only mediocre with large leafy lettuce mixture.The shrimp and grits shrimp still had the tails on. What a hidden gem!! We recently moved to the area and were so excited to find this place. Whenever we have friends and family visit, it's our go-to spot because they never disappoint. They call themselves "upscale casual fine dining" and that's exactly what it is. This is the only fine dining we have found in Cherokee County. It is _okay_. The atmosphere isn't quite as nice as the prices are high, and the food is very nice and is either skillfully thawed or actually fresh, I can't tell. But it wasn't "OMG! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!" good. It was sort of, "That was nice. Now I'm $70 poorer and sort of wish we had gone to Cracker Barrel instead." We sat for a while with no complimentary anything on the table wondering why they didn't bring us a little something. Finally the food started to arrive. It was good, not great. If they charged about half what they do, they'd have a line out the door and I'd give them five stars. But balancing price and quality with atmosphere, I wasn't doing backflips later. read more

This place is by far the best restaurant we have been to in Canton, or Metro Atlanta for that matter. Well, I guess it is in Canton. It is really kind of in the middle of nowhere, but is about a 15 minute drive from downtown Canton between GA 20 and 140 not far from Cherokee Drive. Anyway, I digress. This place is absolutely worth the medium length drive, and moderately increased price compared to other Canton restaurants when you want something to remember. We went there with a group of 8 people on Friday, September 23rd, 2014. We called ahead and made a reservation for 7:30. Arriving as a group of six, we were seated almost immediately by the very pleasant hostess. When the other two arrived shortly after us, they were seated immediately with us. It is nice to have a place not make everyone stand around to wait for the entire party. While we chatted the wait staff asked for our drink orders and poured some nicely chilled water. I had a tasty Yuengling beer with frosted glass. One of our group had a martini which they complimented on its composition. While we looked over the menu we were given some fresh warm rolls and nice chilled butter. Now on the the good stuff. Out of 8 people at our table, 5 ordered the braised short ribs, and all of those people raved at the taste and quality of the dish. A large portion that will surely satisfy a healthy appetite. I ordered the surf and turf with broccoli and grits. It was fantastic! I ordered the filet medium rare plus, and this is only the second place that has succeeded in cooking the steak to perfection (the first being Mastro's steakhouse in Scottsdale, AZ). The broccoli was fresh and cooked well, if a little more done that my preference, but definitely NOT mushy and overdone. The grits were simply fabulous! Creamy and rich, and a big serving, perfect to go with everything on the plate. I would eat those grits every day if I could. The lobster tail was also delicious. A fairly large 6 ounce tail, and perfectly broiled with incredible tenderness and flavor. One of the best I have ever had, and far better than I can do myself at home. On a scale of 1-10 I would give the filet a 9, lobster a 10, broccoli a 7, and the grits an 11!!! A very satisfying and memorable dinner. I skipped dessert, but only because I was really full after the dinner. The wait staff is very attentive and definitely did not make us feel like we had to hurry and leave, contrary to other reviews here. We were the last ones to leave after closing time, and I felt like the staff was willing to wait as long as we were enjoying our evening. The restaurant was pretty much full, and I can understand why. It does not look like it from the outside (just an average strip center), but this place is a really a top quality establishment! they spend the money to get excellent ingredients, and the chef and staff make the experience 5 star. read more

Like stepping through the wardrobe to Narnia, this unassuming location leads to a 5-star dining experience. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. I had a perfectly cooked to 'medium' 14oz New York strip. I chose some of the simpler sides, but you could tell they were fresh and prepared with skill. A friend recommended Union Hill Grill, and it being just a few miles away, I went ahead and made reservations for Friday night. I actually was surprised that they took reservations, and even more intrigued when I was running late and called to see if we could change the original time, only to be told that there weren't any reservations available until later. As we were driving there, my boyfriend was very skeptical, telling me I was going to be disappointed. Boy was he wrong! We were greeted by two friendly young ladies at the door and the fact that we were a few minutes late didn't seem to bother them a bit. We were seated right away and our server (Katherine?) promptly brought us water and took our drink order. My boyfriend ordered a great (stiff!) drink from the bar and they had my favorite wine, so I was pleased right away. They brought bread and took our appetizer order very soon, and allowed us time to review the menu. The food was delicious, service was wonderful, and overall it was a great experience. The ONLY thing I would say is that it is a little loud, but that's to be expected on Friday night. Definitely will be back! read more

First, the prices were a bit high for the food quality and quantity (salads were on the small side). We love Union Hill Grill! They have a wonderful selection of fresh food, made right. They also have a good bar selection and friendly wait staff. Sitting on the patio by the fireplace is romantic and much quieter than the dining room. The noise level gets pretty high during later dinner hours when the bar gets busy. We took our child here once and it was too late, really, so next time we will go earlier with a kid. Otherwise, having such a good restaurant close to our home is a major convenience. read more
