    Gluten free fried chicken sandwich.
    Carly D.

I have a gluten allergy and felt that they knew what I needed when I ordered. The food was very good. I had the deviled eggs, and the gluten free fried chicken sandwich. My fried chicken was super juicy and had great flavor, but the fried coating of the chicken and the fries were mostly soft instead of crispy/crunchy. The staff were kind and attentive. My two notes of feedback would be that I'd like a slightly larger menu of options and I noticed that the light fixtures above the dining tables were coated in a very thick layer of dust which kind of grossed me out.

I stopped by Flock & Herd with my parents on a Friday night and we were seated promptly with quick and kind service! The restaurant wasn't too crowded, but there were still a fair number of people, which was nice. There were a few specials--chicken noodle soup, meatloaf, etc that seemed tempting as well. My mom wound up getting the chicken noodle soup, and she loved it! We split the pork burnt ends appetizer. If I had known how good the pork was, I would've maybe gotten the pork belly bahn mi. I know I'll have to get that next time! Because this appetizer stole the show. I absolutely will have to get it again next time. I got the fish and chips, which were stellar! They were heavy on the fish and a little lighter on the breading than I normally expect, which was nice. The fries and coleslaw were delicious too--I really loved the fries. My dad got the wings, which he picked when he saw they make their own dry rub. Really great stuff!! Heavy on the seasoning but delicious. I'll definitely be back!

I requested no bun on the Double Smash burger. Very delicious

I often come her for my solo dinner dates with myself. I recommend the appetizer that is golden beets with whipped ricotta and local honey. This particular occasion I had the double smash burger (I requested no bun) and a side salad to go with the keto diet I am currently attempting. So delicious and filling. Highly recommend this place for a date night and even a family place with a bit of elevation to your food.

Fried chicken sandwich with chipotle sauce and slaw. Fresh cut fries were surprisingly not soggy.

Wrapping up a work trip in Rocky Hill CT, too many restaurants to choose from, but wound up at Flock and Herd. Located in a little strip mall but easy to see from the street. Inside looks pretty cool with the white bar top and white wood table tops. The brown floor and cassette tape wall decorations are interesting. Trending towards more of a slightly upscale decor, so "gastropub" seems to fit the scene. Wait staff was kind and friendly. Ticket times were not slow or fast, just right I think considering the food offered. It was taco Tuesday, ordered a gringo with corn tortilla, pork belly, buffalo chicken, and shrimp with flour tortillas. They were pretty tasty, portion size was fair for the price. However, the shrimp one was a bit small and thin. Pass on that next time. Also ordered a Bavarian pretzel and the fried chicken sandwich. The pretzel looked really good, coworker ate that. The fried chicken was tasty with chiptole sauce and slaw on it. The chicken was a tiny bit over cooked but it's fine. It came with fresh cut fries. Those were done well, not soggy. Overall, the food needed a bit more salt but there was still decent flavor. Only negative is there weren't any salt shakers on the table. I'd return to Flock and Herd if I found myself in Rocky Hill again.

    Veggie burger and fries

This place is very local to me and my husband and I kept hearing good things so we decided we needed to check them out. They're located in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking available in the lot, but I did not see where the accessible parking was located. There is a step up to the restaurant if you don't find the curb cut to the walkway around the strip mall. The restaurant is a decent size, it's clean, and has a cute aesthetic. The hostess was very nice, as was our server Erika who was the highlight of our meal. I ordered a margarita mocktail which was pretty delicious. My husband inquired about the price of their beers to get an idea of what he was in for and was told $10-12! We saw the pours and they looked to be about 12oz on average. That's madness! He opted for a glass of wine instead. We decided to start with some calamari. It was seasoned well, the light but crisp dredging was great, and I loved the amount of pickled peppers that were included, but the calamari was a bit overcooked and slightly chewy. I also thought the portion was on the small size. For dinner I had a veggie burger with fries and my husband had Mac and cheese with fried buffalo chicken. My veggie burger was just.. weird honestly. We make a chickpea salad at home that's meant to be a play on tuna salad, and that's exactly what it tasted like. It was shapeless and mushy and squished out the sides of the bun. The bun was really good though, and so were the fries. The Mac and Cheese was very underwhelming. Honestly, it tasted kinda like Annie's Mac and cheese from the box. The pasta was a little overcooked, the sauce was really thin, didn't cling to the pasta, and barely tasted of cheese. And while the rest of the meal was well seasoned, this was very under seasoned. The chicken was crisp and juicy though, and the buffalo sauce was tasty. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing meal. Nothing was inedible, but nothing was particularly good either, and considering we paid $90 with tip, that's not good enough. Service was good though, and given my tasty mocktail I suspect they probably make good cocktails too. I doubt we'll return though.

    Dry rub wings
    Kim U.

F & H has been on our radar for awhile so we stopped in tonight. There were 4 of us. We ordered dry rub wings ( nice flavor but wayyy too salty) and buffalo wings. The roasted golden beets with mixed greens and ricotta with honey was good. If you like beets, which I do. Entrees were fish n chips. It was okay. The breading was bland. Chicken sandwich with fries Ceasar salad with grilled chicken Philly steak on a roll with fries Everything was okay. The place was busy. I personally wouldn't rush back. The place was clean and well lit. The back end near the bathrooms the floors need a good degreasing as they are slick. The service was great. Staff was very attentive.

What the menu calls a Pork Belly Banh Mi

I've been back a couple of times since my first review. I think the servers care and they're attentive. The second time I visited for a group birthday dinner, my burger did not arrive when the other entrees arrived. After they made it, it was very good. I also had an Old Fashioned Flight that night, although I thought the idea was better than the execution. Tonight, I returned for dinner with my wife and son. Like during our first visit, Flock & Herd had issues with over-seasoning. Our fried calamari was both too salty and peppery. They offered to re-make it. But it was the same when they re-made it. So I suspect they had overseasoned the batter and just used the same overseasoned batter. My wife said her salmon was too salty as well. They did not charge us for the calamari. For my main, I ordered a wedge salad and the burnt ends app. The burnt ends was served in a General Tso's type sauce and it was very good. The wedge salad was OK. Given the issues with over-seasoning in 2 out of our 3 visits, I'm unlikely to return. 2.5 Stars

    Philly steak with fries. Excellent.
    Ron F.

Great little local place. I had the Philly steak sandwich with fries. The sandwich was excellent and the fries were very good. I was hesitant to order the sandwich since i thought it may not fill me up as I am used to the hoagie style. It was perfect. The service was quick and the food arrive in no time. The menu is limited but what I had was great. I will try the smash burger the next time I'm in this area.

    Tiramisu

Finally visited Flock & Herd for a Saturday lunch. The space has been rearranged and decorated beautifully. Service was friendly. My husband really enjoyed his drink which had gin. I had the Paloma mocktail, which I liked. We started with the shaved steak crostini special which was awesome. Good balance of flavors and textures. I wasn't in the mood for a big entree so I chose the wing starter and a side of fries as my meal. The wings were on the smaller side but I prefer that over the jumbo steroid chicken that's popular now. The Siracha honey flavor was nice heat without being overpowering. The fries were crispy and delish. Hubs got their take on a Bánh mi which looked good and he enjoyed. We got the tiramisu dessert which was a nice end. I would definitely return. This location has been a revolving door of different restaurants so sending them positive energy!

Mushroom Swiss burger and side salad
    Rosanna G.

Summary - great gourmet burger place, casual, good eats. Read for more! Flock & Herd has been opened for a while now and I have been hesitant to try it out, mainly because the last few establishments in that space were underwhelming. I was convinced the spot was cursed. Even so, I had rather high expectations for it due to all the positive buzz about it. We went on a Saturday evening, and though the parking lot seemed full, we were seated right away. The host brought us waters and bonus a huge bottle of San Pellegrino, which is our favorite - no bubbled tap water. The menu is simple but there is something for everyone. I didn't realize it was a burger/sandwich kind of place. I thought it was steak house for some reason. But this worked out much better as I was with my boys and they love their burgers. I got the California chicken sandwich and I WILL be getting it again it was that good. I think the chipotle mayo made it extra yummy. The fries were seasoned well - some may find them too salty - but we love salted fries and we gobbled them all up. My husband got a mushroom burger with a side salad. Service was typical, maybe on the slow side, but as they say in Italy - "those who wait, eat well." I'd rather wait a few more minutes for well cooked food than get rushed bland food. All in all, we were impressed and can't wait to go again!

Finally tried out this new pub on Cromwell Ave for happy hour which was fantastic ! I had 3 orders of their sangrias ( i thought they were delicious). My husband got the old fashion which he loved and fire breathing dragon ( although not our favourite.. but if you like siracha this is the drink for you ) . The food was delicious we ordered two rounds of the flock truffle fries , the Philly cheesesteaks rolls and the chicken tenders because we engulfed the first round so quickly and all three dishes were soooo good an only $7 each. The atmosphere was very pleasant the staff was very friendly and our waiter was great , the food came at a timely manner and the place was packed on a Friday . highly recommended, and we will most definitely be back

    Calamari (GF)
    Alicia N.

This was our first trying the newly opened restaurant. We went a couple weeks ago on a Saturday and it was busy which was great to see! It was lively and the vibe was good. We didn't need to wait long luckily to be seated. Our waiter was awesome and very helpful! The menu has a bit of everything. The starters, some salads, burgers, sandwiches and some main meals. Many items are or can be made gluten free which is great. We had the calamari which was gluten free but unfortunately it wasn't that great. It was very chewy, and overcooked which was too bad. It didn't have that freshness or crispiness to them . My friend was happy with her California Sandwich. It tasted good. But her complaint was her Prosecco. She said it tasted flat. My GF Philly Sandwich on the other hand.. I thought was greasy as well as the fries. And it didn't really taste like a Philly Sandwich. I know the restaurant is still new. So I'm willing to try them out again and get something else. As for someone who is gluten free I normally will order something I can't normally get everywhere like Calamari so hopefully they can work on making it better! It's a nice place to grab a bite ! Prices are good too as well As the portions.

Great service, good food, modern chic burger bar. Came here as a place to try in the area. Wanted a good burger and this one came up as a top contender. So we made the trek to give them a try. The place was very much a modern burger joint. Lots of black piping, clean wood floors, exposed cinterblock, funky colorful art on the walls. Very much a modern burger joint. Our server was training a new person, so they missed some common beats in the conversation. But they were nice and were mostly available when needed. We got some mocktails to start, and they were good but imbalanced. A common theme with mocktails, they don't compensate for the lack of alcohol which often throws off the entire drink unless it's sickly sweet. We got some wings and split a burger. We also upgraded the fries to their signature "flock and herd" fries. We also got some stuffed peppers to munch on. The food came out somewhat quick. We got in right before the dinner rush and the apps came out quickly but the rest took much longer to come out. The peppers were good! Spicy, tender, with enough pepper to get a nice bite and enough toppings to keep things interesting. The wings were also really good. They do their sauces in house and they got a nice dry rub which is spiced and seasoned well. The burger and the last minute deviled egg addition were lackluster. It was clear our burger was cooked then ended up sitting got way too long. By the time we got it, the burger was cold and the cheese solidified on the pan. The deviled eggs were also old, pulled from the fridge pre-made and already oxidized. We informed the manager of this, and we got a retry of the burger and fries. These came out much better. Burger was juicy and seasoned, fries were made in house and double fried. So crispy but plenty of potato in the fry. The cheese sauce didnt really add much, nor did the bacon. But the fries themselves were good. The manager adjusted our bill for our grievances and we left satisfied. When they take their time and are not slammed, they do a great job. When the pressure is on, everything starts to crumble and it shows in the end product. This might be the curse of popularity showing its head, but it's a great place when it isn't slammed. It's a great place for a burger, but be leery if there is a significant wait

The pork belly burnt ends app is amazing especially with their sweet chili sauce! Save some of that sauce for the best fries in the state!

I am SO glad i did because this was hands down one of the best meals ive eaten in years. My girlfriend is pescatarian so we opted to have all vegan/vegetarian options and this omnivore did not miss meat at all. My favorite dish by far was the watermelon crudo which, to me, defied all space and time. The watermelon looked, felt, and tasted like a beautiful tuna. The flavours had a Vietnamese flair to them, including a chili crisp and fresh mint, and i was using the delicious and crispy fries to sop up the rest of the sauce. Everything we ate was incredible, flavourful, and beautiful to look at. The atmosphere was romantic and dreamy, a huge change from the pug filled cozy pub that it used to be as the corner pug. Service was lovely and they surprised us by bringing us champagne and a sweet note at the end. It was absolutely amazing and we felt so taken care of. It wouldn't surprise me if she is an owner too. It's hard to find people, who aren't owners, who are that committed. I asked for a wing flavor recommendation and she said "Montreal Honey" first. I ordered 6. The wings are part-baked and then finished in a fryer. Good inner and outer texture. The Montreal Seasoning was right on. The Honey didn't have much of a presence either visually or flavor-wise. More was needed to balance the salt from the Montreal Seasoning and to justify the Honey in the name. I tried both the Blue Cheese and the Ranch. I'd recommend the Blue Cheese. I'll definitely return to try more wing flavors. I also ordered a crock of chili, which was full of ground beef and topped with melted cheddar and chopped red onions. The chili was solid.
