    Veggie burger and fries
    Morgan L.

This place is very local to me and my husband and I kept hearing good things so we decided we needed to check them out. They're located in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking available in the lot, but I did not see where the accessible parking was located. There is a step up to the restaurant if you don't find the curb cut to the walkway around the strip mall. The restaurant is a decent size, it's clean, and has a cute aesthetic. The hostess was very nice, as was our server Erika who was the highlight of our meal. I ordered a margarita mocktail which was pretty delicious. My husband inquired about the price of their beers to get an idea of what he was in for and was told $10-12! We saw the pours and they looked to be about 12oz on average. That's madness! He opted for a glass of wine instead. We decided to start with some calamari. It was seasoned well, the light but crisp dredging was great, and I loved the amount of pickled peppers that were included, but the calamari was a bit overcooked and slightly chewy. I also thought the portion was on the small size. For dinner I had a veggie burger with fries and my husband had Mac and cheese with fried buffalo chicken. My veggie burger was just.. weird honestly. We make a chickpea salad at home that's meant to be a play on tuna salad, and that's exactly what it tasted like. It was shapeless and mushy and squished out the sides of the bun. The bun was really good though, and so were the fries. The Mac and Cheese was very underwhelming. Honestly, it tasted kinda like Annie's Mac and cheese from the box. The pasta was a little overcooked, the sauce was really thin, didn't cling to the pasta, and barely tasted of cheese. And while the rest of the meal was well seasoned, this was very under seasoned. The chicken was crisp and juicy though, and the buffalo sauce was tasty. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing meal. Nothing was inedible, but nothing was particularly good either, and considering we paid $90 with tip, that's not good enough. Service was good though, and given my tasty mocktail I suspect they probably make good cocktails too. I doubt we'll return though.

    Dry rub wings

F & H has been on our radar for awhile so we stopped in tonight. There were 4 of us. We ordered dry rub wings ( nice flavor but wayyy too salty) and buffalo wings. The roasted golden beets with mixed greens and ricotta with honey was good. If you like beets, which I do. Entrees were fish n chips. It was okay. The breading was bland. Chicken sandwich with fries Ceasar salad with grilled chicken Philly steak on a roll with fries Everything was okay. The place was busy. I personally wouldn't rush back. The place was clean and well lit. The back end near the bathrooms the floors need a good degreasing as they are slick. The service was great. Staff was very attentive.

I've been back a couple of times since my first review. I think the servers care and they're attentive. The second time I visited for a group birthday dinner, my burger did not arrive when the other entrees arrived. After they made it, it was very good. I also had an Old Fashioned Flight that night, although I thought the idea was better than the execution. Tonight, I returned for dinner with my wife and son. Like during our first visit, Flock & Herd had issues with over-seasoning. Our fried calamari was both too salty and peppery. They offered to re-make it. But it was the same when they re-made it. So I suspect they had overseasoned the batter and just used the same overseasoned batter. My wife said her salmon was too salty as well. They did not charge us for the calamari. For my main, I ordered a wedge salad and the burnt ends app. The burnt ends was served in a General Tso's type sauce and it was very good. The wedge salad was OK. Given the issues with over-seasoning in 2 out of our 3 visits, I'm unlikely to return. 2.5 Stars

Finally visited Flock & Herd for a Saturday lunch. The space has been rearranged and decorated beautifully. Service was friendly. My husband really enjoyed his drink which had gin. I had the Paloma mocktail, which I liked. We started with the shaved steak crostini special which was awesome. Good balance of flavors and textures. I wasn't in the mood for a big entree so I chose the wing starter and a side of fries as my meal. The wings were on the smaller side but I prefer that over the jumbo steroid chicken that's popular now. The Siracha honey flavor was nice heat without being overpowering. The fries were crispy and delish. Hubs got their take on a Bánh mi which looked good and he enjoyed. We got the tiramisu dessert which was a nice end. I would definitely return. This location has been a revolving door of different restaurants so sending them positive energy!

    Philly steak with fries. Excellent.

Great little local place. I had the Philly steak sandwich with fries. The sandwich was excellent and the fries were very good. I was hesitant to order the sandwich since i thought it may not fill me up as I am used to the hoagie style. It was perfect. The service was quick and the food arrive in no time. The menu is limited but what I had was great. I will try the smash burger the next time I'm in this area.

Mushroom Swiss burger and side salad

Summary - great gourmet burger place, casual, good eats. Read for more! Flock & Herd has been opened for a while now and I have been hesitant to try it out, mainly because the last few establishments in that space were underwhelming. I was convinced the spot was cursed. Even so, I had rather high expectations for it due to all the positive buzz about it. We went on a Saturday evening, and though the parking lot seemed full, we were seated right away. The host brought us waters and bonus a huge bottle of San Pellegrino, which is our favorite - no bubbled tap water. The menu is simple but there is something for everyone. I didn't realize it was a burger/sandwich kind of place. I thought it was steak house for some reason. But this worked out much better as I was with my boys and they love their burgers. I got the California chicken sandwich and I WILL be getting it again it was that good. I think the chipotle mayo made it extra yummy. The fries were seasoned well - some may find them too salty - but we love salted fries and we gobbled them all up. My husband got a mushroom burger with a side salad. Service was typical, maybe on the slow side, but as they say in Italy - "those who wait, eat well." I'd rather wait a few more minutes for well cooked food than get rushed bland food. All in all, we were impressed and can't wait to go again!

Finally tried out this new pub on Cromwell Ave for happy hour which was fantastic ! I had 3 orders of their sangrias ( i thought they were delicious). My husband got the old fashion which he loved and fire breathing dragon ( although not our favourite.. but if you like siracha this is the drink for you ) . The food was delicious we ordered two rounds of the flock truffle fries , the Philly cheesesteaks rolls and the chicken tenders because we engulfed the first round so quickly and all three dishes were soooo good an only $7 each. The atmosphere was very pleasant the staff was very friendly and our waiter was great , the food came at a timely manner and the place was packed on a Friday . highly recommended, and we will most definitely be back

Buffalo chicken sandwich from a year ago
    Cat C.

Flock & Herd is an absolute gem in Rocky Hill! They have amazing gluten free options with a majority of their menu being marked GF or AGF (available gluten free)! When I was there a year ago I had their buffalo chicken sandwich which was AMAZING and this time I had their smash burger which was so good! Their fries are also out of this world! They also have quick, great service and such cute ambiance! It's a hidden gem indeed.

    Calamari (GF)
    Alicia N.

This was our first trying the newly opened restaurant. We went a couple weeks ago on a Saturday and it was busy which was great to see! It was lively and the vibe was good. We didn't need to wait long luckily to be seated. Our waiter was awesome and very helpful! The menu has a bit of everything. The starters, some salads, burgers, sandwiches and some main meals. Many items are or can be made gluten free which is great. We had the calamari which was gluten free but unfortunately it wasn't that great. It was very chewy, and overcooked which was too bad. It didn't have that freshness or crispiness to them . My friend was happy with her California Sandwich. It tasted good. But her complaint was her Prosecco. She said it tasted flat. My GF Philly Sandwich on the other hand.. I thought was greasy as well as the fries. And it didn't really taste like a Philly Sandwich. I know the restaurant is still new. So I'm willing to try them out again and get something else. As for someone who is gluten free I normally will order something I can't normally get everywhere like Calamari so hopefully they can work on making it better! It's a nice place to grab a bite ! Prices are good too as well As the portions.

Great service, good food, modern chic burger bar. Came here as a place to try in the area. Wanted a good burger and this one came up as a top contender. So we made the trek to give them a try. The place was very much a modern burger joint. Lots of black piping, clean wood floors, exposed cinterblock, funky colorful art on the walls. Very much a modern burger joint. Our server was training a new person, so they missed some common beats in the conversation. But they were nice and were mostly available when needed. We got some mocktails to start, and they were good but imbalanced. A common theme with mocktails, they don't compensate for the lack of alcohol which often throws off the entire drink unless it's sickly sweet. We got some wings and split a burger. We also upgraded the fries to their signature "flock and herd" fries. We also got some stuffed peppers to munch on. The food came out somewhat quick. We got in right before the dinner rush and the apps came out quickly but the rest took much longer to come out. The peppers were good! Spicy, tender, with enough pepper to get a nice bite and enough toppings to keep things interesting. The wings were also really good. They do their sauces in house and they got a nice dry rub which is spiced and seasoned well. The burger and the last minute deviled egg addition were lackluster. It was clear our burger was cooked then ended up sitting got way too long. By the time we got it, the burger was cold and the cheese solidified on the pan. The deviled eggs were also old, pulled from the fridge pre-made and already oxidized. We informed the manager of this, and we got a retry of the burger and fries. These came out much better. Burger was juicy and seasoned, fries were made in house and double fried. So crispy but plenty of potato in the fry. The cheese sauce didnt really add much, nor did the bacon. But the fries themselves were good. The manager adjusted our bill for our grievances and we left satisfied. When they take their time and are not slammed, they do a great job. When the pressure is on, everything starts to crumble and it shows in the end product. This might be the curse of popularity showing its head, but it's a great place when it isn't slammed. It's a great place for a burger, but be leery if there is a significant wait

    Double Smashburger (subbed cheddar cheese)

We've been anxiously awaiting for this spot to open! It's just a few miles down the road from us and unfortunately this location is kinda cursed. Flock & Herd sounded like the right vibes for this space and we couldn't beore excited for them to open! Dined in on a Thursday night and they were pretty busy! The staff is still new and figuring out the menu but everyone was very friendly. The menu consists of craft cocktails, handhelds and sharables. Elevated pub vibes! We both ordered sandwiches and a couple apps - I got the double smashburger but subbed cheddar cheese at our servers suggestion and the hubs got the fried chicken sandwich. Both were really good! The fried chicken sandwich was a 10/10. The fries were also hand cut and really crispy. I would def like more sauce options for the fries but I ordered their house (herd) sauce to dip which was good! It came on my smashburger as well. For apps, we loved the Bavarian Pretzel with cheese sauce but wish it came with a mustard too, as the cheese got cold before we could finish it. The shishitos were really good and we loved the sauce that came drizzled on it! The cocktails are fun and I love that they had a spicy marg on the menu with avocado, you don't see that often but I think it adds such a great flavor! I can definitely see this becoming our go-to neighborhood spot! Congrats Flock & Herd!

The potential here is very high. Need to shake off the newbies - but will definitely be back. When we first arrived it was about 5pm and food and service was delicious and impeccable. However as the places filled up the kitchen was definitely overwhelmed and the food quality dropped. The management adjusted and we received a delicious dinner. Overall it is a great space with a great menu and team. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Stopped in for a quick dinner on the way to Goodspeed Opera House. Great service, well prepared and delicious food, along with a small but good mostly local beer menu with seasonal cocktails. Recommended if you're local or just passing through! Would definitely visit again!

I chose The Laurel based on the great reviews, not knowing much more about this place. Upon arriving, the parking lot was packed. I also had a difficult time getting in when walking from the parking lot, which is behind the restaurant. The issue here (which is my only negative about the entire dining experience) is if I were with a person with disabilities (as I am at times) who doesn't walk fast and we walked to what we "thought" was the entrance, only to find a sign saying to use the front door, but no arrow as to where that is (and keep in mind, I don't know the area, this place, never been here before) and if it were raining - This would have been a horrible way to start the dinner. PLEASE post a sign on the door with an arrow showing which way to go. Also, the door says it's for disable folks, but it's locked. OK - My griping aside... Coming in, I was quickly greeted and seated. The staff here was GREAT! Very engaging and VERY helpful! The menu here is AMAZING! Good thing it's a joint that specializes in small plates and that I was part of a group of three, it gave us the ability to try a bunch of items; seven, in fact and that's not including dessert! The flavors from their vegetarian and vegan dishes were so darn good, you don't miss the meat! Everything was plated beautifully and perfectly! We also placed our entire order (not desserts) all at once and they brought them out as they were made, which worked perfectly with our timing too. They not only have a full bar here, they have a "craft cocktail" quality bar! Upon walking in, one of the first things I noticed was their yellow chartreuse! Of course, next to this was green. So, when I sat down I asked about it, and my server told me how they were able to get this and so I ordered a Last Word, which came out SPOT-ON PERFECT! When it came to the food, some favs of ours - Their Watermelon Crudo - This looked and had the texture of tuna - AMAZING!! The Vegan Empanadas had amazing flavor and texture! I also liked their Stuffed Peppers - The "Samosa Potatoes" in them really hit nicely as well as the sauce on top. Save room for dessert, they have some great options here! We couldn't decide, so the 3 of us ordered 4! We tried their crème Brûlée, their Unbirthday cake, Tres Leches Tiramisu, and their Brûléed Cornbread. The Unbirthday cake was nice - reminded me of what it looks like, Funfetti! But their Brûléed Cornbread was AWESOME! Loved the crispy edges of the cornbread and the entirety of flavors. It wasn't until mid-meal that we really had a talk with our server about the amazingness of the food, the artfulness of it, as well as the attention to detail and creativity of the menu and that's when we learned that the chef here recently won an award for best chef in Connecticut! Well, now it's obvious - Why the parking lot was packed and why everything was so very good! Highly recommend stopping in - but make reservations!

I'm glad I gave this place a second chance before writing my review. Our first visit was for dinner…read moreand while things were good, I did not love it. But it wasn't their fault, I didn't realize that there were olives (in some form or another) pretty much in every single dish I ordered and I don't love olives. As in, whatever I saw, say fish or duck with something I wanted, so I just ordered it without reading the fine details of what were in the dish. So that was my fault, I am sure they would have either suggested things without olives, or told me what things the olives could've been removed from. I knew the service was good and the food was beautifully plated, I just didn't love the things we ordered that time. I saw a post on Instagram that they had a French toast with Ube sauce and I knew I needed to go! I fell in love with Ube in Seattle a couple of years ago and now anytime I see it near me, I have to go get it. I saw the post on a Saturday morning and jumped online and made a brunch reservation for 11:45 the same day! Everything we had was fantastic, rather than wanting a basic sausage or bacon to go with the French toast sticks. I ordered the Bella Bella wings as my protein to go with my Ube French toast, and they were fantastic. I also had to start with the watermelon Crudo, which was interesting, the flavors were excellent, but the texture of the watermelon did not resemble watermelon so it could throw you off if you're not at least a mildly adventurous eater. My husband had the prawn and grits and said it was fabulous and that he would order it again. I did not try it because the portion is not that big and the French toast was filling me up so I let him enjoy his own meal, and did share a couple wings with him and he agreed they were really good. The service was great again, and as simple as it sounds, I loved how when we were seated the hostess asked what kind of water we wanted, we did not have to wait for any period of time for a server to come over and ask us. The attention is in the details and that is always important. The cocktails were great, though a little pricey, which is on par for things in CT. We enjoyed them both at brunch and on our first dinner visit. We will be back, and I actually already prepaid for a dinner experience coming up with Filipino food and I'm excited for it! I have friends that went to the first one and said it was epic! So, while we usually go to brunch only if there are bottomless mimosas, this is one exception that will stay in our rotation! The restaurant is cute, intimate and clean.

Just functional. I was there on an NFL Sunday. There were lots of regulars. There was good interaction with the staff. I didn't catch her name, but the woman who was the only person working the bar and waiting on the tables was amazing. She was super friendly to everyone. She hustled to meet everyone's needs. It wouldn't surprise me if she is an owner too. It's hard to find people, who aren't owners, who are that committed. I asked for a wing flavor recommendation and she said "Montreal Honey" first. I ordered 6. The wings are part-baked and then finished in a fryer. Good inner and outer texture. The Montreal Seasoning was right on. The Honey didn't have much of a presence either visually or flavor-wise. More was needed to balance the salt from the Montreal Seasoning and to justify the Honey in the name. I tried both the Blue Cheese and the Ranch. I'd recommend the Blue Cheese. I'll definitely return to try more wing flavors. I also ordered a crock of chili, which was full of ground beef and topped with melted cheddar and chopped red onions. The chili was solid. I'd probably try something else before I ordered it again though. I'm a fan of Hideaway and I'll be back. 4.25 Stars
