Review is for Joan and the salon: I was referred by two co-workers who have been going to her for years. To get a live person on the phone was hard and a tad irritating ...I may have given up if I was not referred...when I finally got to talk to someone I did get in quick Parking on a Saturday morning was easy. Metered but in front. I came in with hair 3 -4 inches below shoulders, no photos nor preconceived ideas...left it up to her ..she is Asian, so am I and so are my two coworkers...I left with a fresh lob cut, suited for my face, and lifestyle (little time to prep). She gave a great wash, cut blow dry, and dry cut for $85....even tutorial.. Given how much work she did (I was there for a little over an hour) I felt it was a good value and a great cut. Laura saved my hair! Last week I had asked to dye my hair an orangey red. I was strawberry blonde as a kid so I thought it would be cool to go back to my roots. Well all I saw was purple. It was horrible and unnatural looking. As I was shopping on Colorado I decided I couldn't take that purple hue another second! It was affecting the way clothes looked on me. I quickly pulled up my yelp app and looked for hair salons in the area. The union salon had great reviews and now I know why! Laura was so kind and patient as she listened to my concerns and went over options with me. It was problematic that the red dye was so fresh so we decided to put a dark brown over it and lighten the red ends to give me an ombré look. It turned out better than I could have hoped for! Just had my hair cut for the first time by Amy Chen at Union Salon. I was skeptical because it was a little pricey and it's always hard to find a decent hair salon place for men. But right when I walked in to Union I knew I'd made the right choice. The industrial looking building is a perfect location and looks really cool. I was a walk in, and they usually take appointments, but they were very accommodating and Amy took me right away. She really took time to look at my hair and give me her informed opinions and knowledge. She let me express any issues I've had with my hair in a very comfortable way. She then walked me through every step and really took care to give me a great experience. And they gave me a cup of coffee! All in all, a little pricey, but well worth it. Monica is my go to girl and has been for the past 10 yrs when my face needs some LOVE! I've seen her for facials, eyebrow design, Brazilian waxing, body wraps, makeup applications for special events, and now eyebrow and eyelash tint. She did the works on me yesterday in such little time. Facial, lip and eyebrow wax and eyebrow and eyelash tint in 1 hr and 15 min! Facials- only get better year after year. She is now a Dermalogica Expert and I can definitely feel her technique has skyrocketed and she is a master of her craft. I always tell people go to Monica for your facial, her hands make love to your face. Her rhythm is on point and you never just feel that your face is just being washed but totally cared for. Eyebrow design/wax - her aesthetic is more on the natural side so she never waxes too much. Body waxing- she's FAST! And she's sanitary. Never using the same spatula. Her technique also has evolved and that's why she's so fast. Eyebrow/lash tint- I can't go out of the house anymore without shading in my brows fully but today I woke up and my brows look so full. I did add little bit to shade in but the shape she created with my brows only needed a little bit of accentuating. I usually am so busy (and lazy) to see her as often as I should. But I made standing appointments to see her once a month for my beauty fix! She is AMAZING and it's definitely a treat when I see her!! read more

I LOVE CHRISTY AT UNION SALON!!! I just had my first cut and color with her and am now a devoted fan!! She is sweet, down to earth and an incredibly talented colorist! I brought in a couple of pics of different colors, stumbled thru what I wanted and she nailed it exactly!! I think this is prob the best hair salon in Pasadena. I recently moved here from the Manhattan Beach area and needed to find a new place. I took a chance and booked a cut and color here and was not disappointed​. ​Plus they have coffee and wine, what more could you want. The only downside is that they don't have their​ own parking lot and street parking is closely​ monitored​. This review has been a long time coming. I came to this salon based on customer reviews, but I was left with a sour taste in my mouth. Initially, I went to a very nice hairdresser who did an excellent job with a cut and single color, so I figured I would book her again for highlights and toner and a cut. That is where my hair nightmare began. She initially did a partial highlight and I asked her not to highlight the crown part, which she did (first strike). Since my service was performed in the evening and Union has terrible lighting, I really could not tell how brassy my highlights were until my husband mentioned it the next morning (strike 2). I was literally orange all over. I am Latina, and it takes a special kind of hairdresser to understand that I naturally have a lot of red in my hair, which is why you need to take me to a golden level for a nice highlight. I was taken to a brassy level 6-7. So I called this salon and booked her again within 10 days following my service and she did a toner. However, upon checkout, I was charged upwards of $70 for said toner (strike 3). My husband found out that I was charged for said toner, and he suggested that I call management to rectify the issue. The owner was kind enough to refund my money, but within a few days, my hair color faded, and I had five different colors in my hair (strike 4). I contacted management again to see if I could possibly get a refund. No response (strike 5). I waited a few weeks and went to a different salon to have color correction closer to my house and a lot more affordable. The owner of the different salon was able to use some of the existing highlights and take them to a golden level, while evening out my root color and evening out some other overlapping color and the orange in my hair. I paid Union around $300 for said service, plus I had to pay my new spot around $175 for the correction. My new hairdresser said that my hair might pay a price for all of the processing that had taken place with my hair in such a short period of time (strike 6), but like I said, I needed to fix my hair. My hair was dry and brittle for a few months after, so up with the buns and ponytails. Thankfully after 4 or 5 haircuts later, some 6-7 months under my belt, and my hair is back to normal. But this is just my experience. I am sure the salon has great stylists. I just had a really bad experience here. I have thought a lot about writing this review because I believe in small businesses and if you look at most of my reviews, I am very generous with the ratings. I just need other prospective clients to know how my situation was handled... I am completely satisfied with my new salon now. read more

This review is for Erika Babayan at Union Salon. I have curly hair, so I'm super picky about hairdressers. I made an appointment with Erykah after reading some reviews by other curly girls who had visited her. I was not disappointed! I wanted a curly bob, but didn't want to end up with the dreaded triangle hair cut, and she did a wonderful job shaping in so it would be a traditional bob, but the curls would still be bouncy. I also came in for color and was SUPER indecisive about what I wanted. I pretty much showed her my Pinterest page with a million different ideas and we came to a decision together. She was very patient with me. I will say that it was very expensive, but since I got partial balayage and a tint (plus the cut) it was definitely time consuming. It's important to remember that the hair dresser needs to be paid a fair wage for their time, plus I'm sure a percentage goes to the salon. Also, you get what you pay for.
