I really can't say enough positive things about Union Salon South (and Shanan specifically). But first, I'll take a step back in time. In summer 2020, my (previous) stylist moved to MI, and he suggested one of his colleagues as a replacement. So, I went to see her and showed her pictures of what I wanted - pictures of me with my hair freshly cut so it was really clear. Afterall, due to COVID, it had been a little bit longer than normal between cuts. But it wasn't as though my hair had grown 2 feet or something... Anyway, I digress. There isn't a polite way to say this, and I think my significant other said it best: She gave me a mullet. (To be clear, this is not what I asked for.) This "mistake" was a particularly significant issue as my friend's daughter's wedding was 5 days later. In other words, I had 5 days to find yet another stylist who could "fix" this - and fixing requires much more talent than just straightening things up. Shanan was simply a superstar. She managed to give me a haircut that looked intentional (I got compliments!), and she created a strategy for getting my haircut back to where I wanted it to be (without looking like mistakes had happened). Bottomline: In hindsight, getting a mullet might have been the best thing to happen because I met an amazing stylist, Shanan. read more

My hairstylist moved here awhile ago and it's the best decision! The ambiance the moment you walk in the room is inviting. I've been seeing Lerer C. For almost 7 years now and I'm glad I've found her and still making the drive to see her every 3 months. The salon itself is clean and bright with lots of windows. They offer a selection of beverages for customers. They also carry a lot of hair products but not too overwhelming. Lots of beautiful paintings as well. read more

I went to get a balayage and trim from Lerer. My friends referred me to her saying she was the best. Friend 1 had a clean sharp haircut with bright pink hair. Friend 2 had beautiful highlights and bangs with mid length hair. Trusting them, I went to her to get my hair done. I went in with brown hair from box dye I got at Target during Covid. I had some of my black roots grown out. I was looking to go for a nice spring/summer lift. I trusted Lerer with the color she could get me to with my current hair color. I also trusted her to trim my hair however she'd like. Her style is very soft and she gave me elegant layers that flowed well with my face shape. She got my hair to a dirty blonde color balayage and did a wonderful job. It took 5 hours. She was very mindful of time and punctual. In terms of the facility during COVID, I felt very safe. They have you wait in your car until the stylist calls you in. The bathrooms are very clean and everyone is wearing masks. All the stations are separated using every other station and they have panels in between each station. Lerer is a skilled stylist, she understands hair, hair color, and hair types. She is a bit expensive but, you get what you pay for. I am definitely going to come back and consider Lerer my personal stylist moving forward. :) See pictures attached for before and after pics! read more

Kana is the best! I've gotten my hair done by her for 2ish years now and she always captures my inspo pics so well. I first found her on insta @kanajunehair and haven't turned back. Stephen is the GOAT! Has so much knowledge of facial structure and hair texture to give a highly personalized cut. I have never cut my bangs above my cheekbone in my life but he walked me through it, making sure I was okay with the length every step of the way, and it looks amazing. I was lucky enough to get an appointment during quarantine and Chantel didn't disappoint. I impulsively cut my hair myself, and I was in desperate need of a balayage. Union Salon South made sure my experience was great just like my previous one. The staff called me ahead of time to confirm my appointment, and they made sure that there were safety precautions due to covid. I waited in my car until my appointment and they took my temperature before getting started. I wore a mask the whole time (no complaints! I was completely fine). I AM IN LOVE. I've been following Sonny on Instagram for a while now and have wanted to come in forever to do something different. Finally as able to come in today and of course I changed my mind about what I wanted last minute. Didn't matter. The guy is a magician. Let me start with the good - the people working here are really vibrant and friendly, and the space itself is welcoming and immaculate. But the services themselves were really disappointing. I would suggest going in for a consultation before making an appointment if you are considering this salon. The haircut I received was a basic straight across cut with absolutely no layering, texturing or styling. The stylist also grazed the scissors across my bangs, but did not add any flair at all. All for over $100. I really could've cut my hair myself if I wanted such little attention to detail. The color, despite taking more than two hours and setting me back more than $300, was pretty nonexistent.
