The restaurant is freezing so opted to sit outside in the shaded patio. The service is SUPER slow and the server didn't seem to be all together. She spilled water on a customer and never came back to our table until much later. She originally came to our table every minute which was too much!! The food was average your typical Canadian food. The fish and chips was the best tasting dish and their fries. The kids chicken tenders with fries wasn't crispy. My child didn't really enjoy it! We also got the shrimp tacos and deluxe burger. The shrimp didn't have much flavour. This restaurant overall need to be renovated and a deep scrub down because it looks dirty and really dark. There was no apology for the slow service and the sever didn't look happy to be there. She was the only server working with about 23 customers. The restaurant is very short staffed. Service was kind of slow even though it wasn't too busy. I ordered a sangria and it wasn't good. It tasted like it was just sitting out, not sure if it's premixed? It was cloudy... all of the sangrias I've had are dark red like the wine was freshly poured not pink and cloudy. Then the steak bowl was.... Very lacklustre. Our server seemed a little overwhelmed and we often didn't see her for large swaths of time despite it not being overly busy at the restaurant. Came here on a Saturday afternoon after lunch hours and the place is empty. We were told the soup of the day was "cream of mushroom" and it was not... I've been to Union Social pre covid and really liked the restaurant atmosphere and food. Decided to order take out and overall the food was good. Unfortunately take out fries aren't the best, but that's not the restaurants fault. I've tried their fries in the restaurant and they're very good. The burger this time around was a little disappointing. It lacked a lot of flavour and was over cooked. It wasn't the worst thing ever but definitely not on my top list of burgers. We really enjoyed the tacos and chicken tenders, absolutely no complaints there. In terms of takeout packaging, everything was packaged well (cardboard). All the sauces came in separate containers as shown in the pictures. And I'm glad that even though it was takeout the food was presented well. Unfortunately meh food but really the available Sunday water hole to see friends from GTA. Came here once last year on a Saturday or Sunday, and once last week on a Sunday. It was empty both times during the afternoon and evening. The calamari is overly breaded and their guacamole did come out slightly darkened. The menu items for food and drinks are also all exciting and came out looking good in their presentations. Our servers were nice in their accommodation and in our requests for our pictures to be taken. What pulls me back from an overall positive recommendation of the place was the prices of their menu items. It is a little higher than what people may be comfortable to spend on a regular basis in hanging out or chilling with friends. Another thing that did not sit well with me was the time you have to wait for a table. It was understandable that a group of 5 would have to wait for a bigger seating table to be available. What was inconvenient was someone from our group needed to regularly come back and inquire if it is ready. It was made the more harder because there was no wait area (due to Covid restrictions for indoor spacea) and there was bright, hot sun directed towards the food place during the time. This would have been better fixed if they can take customer numbers and call or text them once the table is ready. Our manager chose this location for our staff Christmas dinner this year. It was not very busy when we got there and the ambiance was very inviting and pleasant. I ordered the Smokehouse Deluxe Beef Burger which is served with fries. I enjoyed my food even though the meat was a little more charred than it should have been. A cool chic place to eat and drink after a day of work. The demographic of this place is definitely white collared young professionals, and the staff are there to match. These were delicious but definitely avoid this if you can't handle spicy foods. I would definitely get this again despite how messy my eating ending up being due to my inexperience with eating soft tacos haha [Roasted Vegetable Firecrackers] $9.48 - mmmm, we ended up ordering this to share between the four of us who were eating together! I had read some reviews that recommended firecrackers from this place so we opted for the vegetarian ones to try. The vegetarian ones are packed full of sweet peppers, onions, spinach, cremini mushrooms, cream cheese, feta, goat cheese and sweet chilli sauce! These were extremely heavy so given that there were only four pieces, one per person was plenty so keep that in mind if you're ordering it to share :D [Latte] $4 - no pictures of it but goodness gracious, this is one of few cups of coffee I've had that wasn't bitter in the least bit! It was delicious without sugar, so much so, that I would have gladly had 8 more cups if they were free. I definitely needed a caffeine boost because the film we were seeing after dinner began at a much later time than I'm used to being out so I highly recommend ordering this too! There's a fun ambiance to this Union Social Eatery, but the food is just ok. Service was good. Prices are average for this area (on the high side for pub food). We ordered parmesan truffle fries as a starter to share. I likes the fries (skinnier bistro style) and they were seasoned properly, but the truffle flavour must not have been evenly distributed as I only tasted it on a few fries. The parmesan was thick grated - I think a dusting would have been better. Everyone said their mains were under seasoned / not as flavourful as expected. My smoked bacon burger was good but that was because of the toppings - the beef patty itself didn't seem to be seasoned. The restaurant was kind enough to accommodate a party of 8 for a Saturday given we reserved on a Friday afternoon. So that's a plus. The venue used to be where Shoeless Joe was, if my memory serves me well. The decor is alright, nothing stood out for me? The noise level can be a bit less to have conversations with friends. We were seated in our reserved spot not long after we got in. The staff are very attentive at first and the shift/store manager even swung by to say hello. We ordered our food and we waited. I ordered the fish and chip, the fish is huge and came with plenty of fries. I also "caved in" and order the gravy. Service was quite friendly and attentive, although the waiter kept saying he would come back with more napkins (came back after the 3rd try). Still, he was nice and the order was accurate. One criticism - the booking system. They use OpenTable, but you can't collect points through OpenTable. It's not available on the main system, which sucks. Also, when you book on OpenTable, it's for INDOOR dining, not the patio. This isn't mentioned anywhere on the booking site. Came here the other night with my girlfriend for some late night eats because we found out Origin North was closed on a Monday. She recommended us try this place because she really likes their food. So for dinner instead of ordering mains, we ordered a bunch of appetizers to share between the two of us! :) It was more quiet so service sometimes took a little longer than we want, but overall their staff were quite friendly and also gave us some good recommendations to try! We tried their shrimp tacos, calamari and their chicken flatbread. All three dishes were delicious and so tasty!! :) I loved the shrimp tacos, it was a bit bigger than i had expected though! but the flavours were amazing with the mayo and the lettuce/tomato/chives. the calamari was lightly breaded, definitely one of the better ones i've had in the city. flatbread was also very delicious! but i was starting to get full so in the end i packed two pieces to go, but all in all their food is pretty good! Been here a handful of times. Nothing in particular stands out, but its close to my work and food is ok. We usually grab a beer or two after work. Staff are all very friendly, service is slow sometimes weather youre on the patio or main dining floor. Ive hadtheir wings and wraps, honestly you can make better food at home. My most recent visit we got 2 burgers and fries. Both nicely smothered in cheese, but fries were soggy and stale and the burger was on the dry side. Overall, I'd skip the food here. Thinking good things should be coming soon..waited for over 40minutes..NO FOOD...servers weren't tentitive, no one told us where our food was or apologize for the long wait. I had to walk up to the bar again and complain saying I have waited over 40minutes for my food ( literally we were ready to get up and leave now ) server comes back and tells us 5 minutes , and apologize for the long wait due to short staff. Food comes finally, we ordered :- calamari (starter to share), it was ok but breading was thick. I had the steak frites and the beef was slightly tougher than desired but I didn't complain and the manager gave me a discount! The frites were plenty and had the right crunch. Speaking of doing a superb job, Sima, the waitress, was very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and helped pick out the right wine for my steak. There's also two levels of seating indoors, with large TVs and a bar area. We ordered the banana coconut crusted chicken and herbed brie double chicken, as well as truffle fries on the side. The chicken was a little dry, but the truffle fries are amazing. They are an extra $3 to substitute in, but it was definitely worth it with its unique toppings. I can't believe this is my first time here. I LOVED it! Ive recommended this place to people without having even been here because I already knew it was good. The patio is adorable! There aren't that many patio options uptown so I was pleasantly surprised. Despite being a patio, it's very well covered so even though it started raining a little bit during dinner, we stayed completely dry. They also have a fire pit and a bar area. We came on a Friday evening at 5:30, so there were spots still available. It was also $5 Peller wine & Coronas on Fridays. There wasn't too much wine in the glass, so I'd stick to the Coronas next time. I ordered the blackened bowties pasta which was surprisingly really delicious! I'm a little picky with how I like my pasta and I really liked this dish. It's also a pretty big portion, and both of us had to pack half of our pastas to go. If I worked closer to this area I'd probably come regularly for patio season. The patios nice, the foods great, the price is right. Also, side note that their GM is amazing!
