By far, the worst service in Durand. It's only gotten worse in the last 2-3 years. If it's not bad enough that you have to serve yourselt, you'll find yourself feasting on warm drinks and overcooked food. It's very common to only see your waitress twice during a visit: once to take your drink orders, and a second time to give you a bill that's incorrectly accounted for. Save yourself the time, headache, and buyer's remorse go anywhere else. It really seems fit with all these flaws they're in an old gas station. Ok.. we use to go here at least 3-4 times a year. Prior to the last year I would give this place a solid 4, leaning to 5 stars. We were there this weekend and like last time September/October 2024, it failed to meet the previous times. The wait staff was slow, there were two waitresses for maybe 3 to at most 4 tables. We were not offered refills of water. The fries which were once great were terrible. They were either double cooked or over cooked. The burger was ok, but the burger lacked seasoning. The other order was Mac n cheese with brisket. The brisket was dry and tasted more like a roast. We don't eat out often, but when we do, prior to the last 2 times this was one place we would consider. Unfortunately we probably won't choose here again . We waited a year from our last bad experience and with as few times we eat out, there are other options. Please let someone know (the owner) to hopefully help this place get it back together. read more

Went to watch a live act, eat some dinner and have some drinks with friends. Was there for an HOUR AND A HALF and never once got service. Unacceptably ridiculous. Had to go to the bartender to get drinks. I recommend you go somewhere else when thinking about dining in Durand. read more

This place is actually super cute. I found it online while driving back from Grand Rapids, and decided to stop in. It's only a few miles off I-69, in Durand which is just west of Flint. I did a little reading, and it used to be a gas station back in 1946 and eventually converted into a BBQ place in 2016. Looks like they had a kitchen fire during the pandemic in 2020, but continued smoking meats and serving guests while they remodeled! Walking in, the place looks great. I love the décor! I seated myself, and my waitress came over and handed me a menu. I guess their open for breakfast here as well? NICE! I went with the brisket sandwich, and substituted my fries for baked beans at no extra charge. My server was really friendly and helpful, telling me about their BBQ sauces as well. They have six different varieties-3 hot, 3 regular, including one ketchup? Who puts ketchup on BBQ? That's a crime in itself! UGH! PEOPLE PLEASE. Anyway, the brisket was really super good but I got a few crunchy ends in there that I couldn't eat. the sauces were good, and one was really super hot. (I like to try all the sauces if possible except the Carolina vinegar ones because their disgusting and repulsive. It looks like mustard, and tastes like literal vinegar water regardless of who makes it.) The beans were fabulous, and I think there was brisket in there as well. YUM. Place serves some kind of local Detroit pop but I didn't try any this time around. Overall, a fabulous local find, and I think you should go check this local place out! read more

My significant other and I were regulars here. It was our favorite location. Due to issues we will only go if there is live music here. I'll post the pros and cons. Pros: 1. The food is amazing! 2 It's very clean. 3. One waitress in particular (Kristen) is the best waitress there. 4 The glasses come super iced over, so it keeps drinks cold longer. 5. I love that they have outdoor seating. 6. Dave the owner is super friendly and has treated us very well. Cons: 1. UNless you have beer in a mug, it's warm. 2. The BBQ sauce bottles don't get cleaned often enough. A lot of times there is dried up sauce all over the bottles. 3. One waitress is a liar (and caused another waitress to yell at us), 4. Another waitress makes it obvious when she doesn't like someone (one waitress is Sarah and I don't remember the other girls name...possibly Katie, but not positive), I saw how the long dark brown haired girl treated a guy that was being nice. I could tell she didn't like him. 5. Red, which is one of the owners is rude to almost everyone i see her talk to (customer and staff), 6. They charge $0.50 more than what the beers are posted as, even after telling multiple waitresses about it, a Michelob Ultra draft is suppose to be $4.50, but they continue to charge $5 7. The wait is so unbelievably slow. I see the waitresses making drinks, putting stuff on the plates, answering to-go orders, ringing people up, so they don't have enough time to wait on customers that are sitting at tables. It should NEVER take 40 mins to get a beverage after ordering it. I've seen multiple complaints on the slowness. We no longer eat here because of all the cons. If you don't treat your customers better, we would come back. I hate leaving a low star rating. read more

Four of us ate dinner at this restaurant last week. We all agreed that some of the selections were excellent while some not so much . Pulled pork was dry and overcooked. Brisket was very good. Ribs were okay . Sauces were all excellent. Service was par. Sides were okay with the exception of the corn bread. We agree that we will give this restaurant another try but want to try the sandwich menu rather than the smoked meat selections. read more

Went in here to do a tasting for our rehearsal dinner! The venue was charming. Overall, the service was great! The owner, little red was delightful and helpful. The food choices we tried were solid to great! The mac and cheese was out of this world. The fries were southern and perfect. The potato salad was flavorful. We aren't a leafy slaw couple, so we can't speak on it. The tots were tasty and sweet. The cornbread was solid, but could use something. The brisket and ribs were great! Great flavor and the dry rub char was amazing. The chicken was some of the best I've had - no sauce needed. The sausage was great. The pulled pork was good, but my least favorite. The bbq sauces were solid and they had something for everyone. One of the best sauce selections at a bbq restaurant. We had an awesome experience here today. The service was warm, friendly, and personable and the food was incredible! We over-ordered so we could bring home leftovers and are so glad we did. Standouts for us were the burnt ends, smoked chicken wings, ribs, smoked sausage, beans, and the sweet potato tots! My husband said the mac and cheese was great -- the noodles held up and weren't overcooked mush like they can be at most bbq places. What a gem. Went following youth football in the area. We were looking for a smokehouse and we found it here at Union Station. To be straight to the point...INCREDIBLE BBQ AND VERY REASONABLE!!! We got the burnt ends for an appetizer and it was awful; burnt ends is suppose to have tender meat or basically fat and it was some of the toughest meat i've ever eaten. we then got the pitmaster and it sounded really good but it was subpar at best and the fries that came with it were burnt to a crisp. the service was ok, she was nice but almost snippy with how fast she was trying to be and told us i'll get you a refill, 20 minutes later we got them. the overall setting is cool but it didn't have the food nor service to back it up. will never recommend the restaurant. read more

I was really craving some bbq and this looked like a great spot on yelp by the pictures and everything. It is definitely a really cute restaurant walking up and walking inside. The decorations/motif is really cute and the ambiance is great. I called in an order to go since I was heading a little but more north for the night. Decided on the brisket platter with potato salad and Mac and cheese and the pulled pork platter with fries and coleslaw. I want to preface I only gave three stars because of the sides. We really liked the bbq, and the Mac and cheese wasn't bad. But, the potato salad felt like it was missing something and My boyfriend and I didn't like the coleslaw at all. The owner took my order and she helped me when I came in. Overall I liked the place and the bbq, but the sides...I was disappointed. And they came in small to go side containers. Meats are smoked to perfection. Fries are freshly cut every time. The soda is local too, from Detroit. Not to mention the great staff. We felt at home here. So we've seen this place advertised on Facebook often and decided tonight we'd stop in for Date Night. Great patio area, inside is really open and bright. Touchtunes jukebox in the main area. With that being said, I must say though the food ,yea the food was very bland. I ordered the Pulled Pork dinner, the wife ordered the Brisket Dinner. My Pulled pork was super dry, no smoke flavor at all, bland w no discernible flavor of even a rub. The Mac and Cheese was creamy and filling, but pretty basic w little cheese flavor. The beans were bland too. The wife's Brisket, while extremely tender,moist and a good portion size, it literally tasted like pot roast, again no hint of any type of smoke flavor or spices. The muffins are really bland and dry too. The sweet potato tots were actually really good though. I hate to give any restaurant any type of negative comments during these difficult times,but adding some flavor to your products w some added spices, actually using a better type of wood to smoke your meats would not be more costly in the long run.... We have taken our extended family multiple times. My mother loves the ribs and when you're in your 90's, you are generally given what you want.... We've had two birthday parties there with 15+ family members each time. They have been exceedingly accommodating, their staff is FANTASTIC, and their food is good. Went for a Sunday early dinner. I ordered the Switchman with the ribs, pulled pork, and a double portion of brisket. The brisket was good (7.5/10). The pulled pork and ribs were meh (5/10). All of the meats would have benefitted from simple proper seasoning during the smoking/cooking process. They were all on the bland side. I was pleasantly surprised that the upcharge for substituting double brisket was only $2. Three of the sides (coleslaw, potato salad, grilled pineapple) were a disappointment. I could be wrong, but I felt like I was eating commercial products from cartons. It didn't seem homemade. The pineapple rings were def canned pineapple, not fresh. I'm pretty sure that the redskin potato salad was russet potatoes instead, based on its texture. The spoon bread was really good. Very moist and strong corn flavor. The BBQ sauces were a good offering. They all felt homemade and unique. The asian sauce didn't seem asian, and was our favorite by far. The bourbon sauce was good. The Carolina mustard offering was well seasoned and tasty. The service was very slow. From the time that our meal ended, it took thirty minutes to get our check, pay, and get our change and receipts back. Our server was very pleasant. She always seemed to be doing something, but wasn't fast enough to handle the tables on the patio by herself. She may have had some inside duties, but was out on the patio most of the time. She could use another server, or supplemental help to compensate for her lack of speed. She was knowledgeable and sweet and seemed like she could have been one of the owners. The beverages were decent (diet pop, lemonade, and water). The value would have been good if the sides were better. I would rate the value as fair. The meat at this establishment was excellent! I ordered the brisket Mac and cheese. Although the noodles were overdone and lukewarm, the brisket was the star of the show! I gave four stars because of this and the original portion was pitiful. I was going to give 3 stars, but the waitress, Genia, listened to my feedback and went and got me more brisket. We were so excited to get back here, as our last time was in 2019 and we loved it. This was not the case when we went on a Sunday in February. Our waitress didn't explain anything on the menu, specials, their specialty pop etc. The coleslaw I got on my pulled chicken was glorified cabbage. The sauces they brought to the table were dirty and sticky. We had no idea what flavors they were or what they even offered. My daughter ordered the nuggets and they were waaay over cooked. Cooking staff and waitress should have noticed how burnt they were. Fries were limp/ Soggy. We ordered boneless wings to go and they were dried out pieces of hard breading. And NOT white meat. The little meat that was in them was NASTY! The waitress ress had ONE table and only came back once. When we walked in on a super bowl Sunday at 3, I thought it was crazy how dead they were. I've eaten at every BBQ and smoke house I could in the US, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, if you are any where near Durand, MI, this is the best BBQ you will find. Highly recommend this place for barbeque. It's only open on Thursday thru Sunday. We stopped on a Thursday. They only have bottle beer. The choices are various sandwiches, pull pork, ribs, beef brisque and chicken. All very good. We had a beef brisque . I had the switchman which was pulled pork, ribs and the beef brisque with 2 sides. Each was a half pound. It was good and filling. The baked beans were different than most and very good. Mac and cheese was good The potato salad was very good. Well worth the stop. Will bring friends back next time. No draft beer yet read more
