Ok, so I just moved from the San Francisco Bay Area where there are nail salons galore. Solvang is a small town and I'm learning prices for mani pedis are more expensive in the (Santa Barbara) area overall. I decided to try this nail shop because of it's location and decor. Price for pedi is a reasonable $25. I'm not sure how I feel yet about this shop because my pedi only took 15 mins compared to what I'm used to being more like 30-40 mins. The tech left nail polish on my skin which I asked her to clean off and there were sparkles in the clear nail polish which were transferred onto my nails when the top coat was applied over my color. My nails were cut down but there was very little filing or buffing that took place. My nails are kinda crooked and jagged :-/ On the plus side, I was accommodated upon walk in, staff was friendly and the shop appears very clean. The chairs are comfortable and polish selection is sufficient. My toes look ok. I just wish there woulda been a little more attention to detail. If you're an out-of-towner in need of a mani/pedi then I recommend this place. Don't be afraid to speak up if you need to. read more

My aunt and I were in town for the day and decided to stop in during the evening and see if they could get us in for 2 pedicures. Ann was the only one working and said she would do both of us. This was by far the best experience I've ever had at a nail salon. Ann was so kind and talked with us while we were there. She made us feel like family. The pricing was great too! $35 for an incredible pedicure and a great experience? Yes please!! The next time we are in town I will definitely be paying a visit here again to see Ann. This experience was definitely unique... The ladies seemed more interested in listening to our conversation, rather than doing a good job on our nails. I asked for matte black coffin shaped nail, what I got is uneven, crooked, oblong, semi matte. My sister asked for ombré and her nail tech flat refused to do it and gave her a terrible French set instead. When asked to reshape the coffins a bit, it seemed like it was such a hassle. Wow, I have been going to this salon off and on since 2003 and over the years I have recommended to family and of course friends that they need to go there and to this day they still do! I am HUGE fan about supporting local businesses and hands down this salon has that, to be open 7 days a weeks to schedule appointments or walk in. I go about every 3 to 4 weeks and all the girls know me by name which I love in a business. Ann does an amazing job on my gel nails. super sad that I recently moved to the area and my 10 year old girl and I went to get our pedicures to this place, and the lady that did her nails didn't even bother to massage her legs, or anything that is supposed to be included on a pedicure, left her alone for a while and pretended she did a pedicure, really only put color and she was done super quick, but off course got charged $30 + tip with nothing else, mine was $35 plus tip so what a way to take advantage of people that arent from the area, don't go to this place, very unprofessional. read more

Super bummed on this last "visit". I called ahead and made an appointment since my time and theirs is valuable. I showed up at my appointment time and was asked to return in 45-50 minutes as the lady gestured to another customer standing in the lobby. I agreed (it obviously wasn't going to do any good to protest) and left but of course didn't return. I went to this nail salon for the very first time for a mani-pedi 2 days ago and I thought it was excellent. -No wait with appointment. -Good nail color selection. -Manicurist, Tom, was very friendly and gentle (no cuts/abbrasions). -Nail kit was in a sealed packet indicating appropriate disinfection before use. -Manicurist wore gloves. -Soak tubs were lined with plastic liners after each client thereby preventing any transference of infection from client to client. -Foot and leg massage was lovely. -Friendly staff and regular clientele were lively and happy. -Walk-ins accepted and had to wait a bit which is understandable. Accurate wait estimates were given. -Price was fair ($40 regular mani/pedi), time allowed was 1 hour but actually a bit longer. Getting a mani/pedi is a luxury for me but I'll be back again! read more

Got a pedicure. Not what I expected. They were done in 20 minutes from the time I sat down. The pedicure was only foot soak, nail trim, cuticle removal, file and polish. No foot scrubs, lotions, didn't offer callous removal etc. Not worth $30 read more

THE WORST MANICURE OF MY LIFE - DO NOT GO THERE. I was in solvang and I really needed a manicure so the first place that I saw was this one. The woman (which is from some country in Asia) took literally like 20 min doing my nails. She didn't remove my cuticles at all, and when she used the nail polish it looked like a 5 year old work. I paid 18 usd and she was rude when she realized that I was not going to tip her (why do I have to tip a terrible service ?). I am not a person that normally does this kind of reviews, but this place truly deserves it just for you to know that IS NOT GOOD ! Therefore , I had to do the nails by myself. I have had multiple pedicures here over the last year and have always been happy with Unique Nails. The lovely lady who does my pedicures stays open a little late because I get off work later and always does a fabulous foot massage, doesn't rush, and makes sure everything dries nicely before I go. Great service, fair price and just a nice thing to put a smile on my face at the end of a long day (not to mention- the little things, like helping put on my shoes and rolling up my pant legs, opening the door and the massage chair you get to sit in). read more

Worst gel manicure ever, the polish peeled away less than 10 days later and that never happens when I have had gel polish before. Pedicure wasn't much better and to make matters worse, they ASKED me for a TIP! As if I want to tip on top of a BAD $70 mani/pedi, I did but wish I had not. I want to tell them you don't ASK FOR TIPS, it is up to the customer, and this is not the first nail salon to do so. Long time customer, had an appt to get a manicure. Several people came in and Ann rushed the job leaving my nails with air bubbles and she didn't even cover the whole nail! Went back to show Ann the next day and have them fixed and all she did was repaint over the bubbles which made it look worse!! I said it was not ok and I needed it all redone and she said "No, nothing wrong with nail". I showed her the bubbles and she said she didn't see them! I asked for a refund or a gift certificate and she refused. She was very rude and disrespectful to me after all the years I have been going to them! This is one of those times when you wished you would've gone on Yelp before you tried services somewhere. I was up in Solvang for a girls weekend and my friend and I desperately needed manicures. We both selected colors and my manicure started maybe 2 minutes (if even that) before her's did. First, the lady (she has short dark hair), barked at me that the color I chose was $5 more because it "lasts longer" and was on a special shelf. The shelf had no sign to indicate this, and the brand is one I've used at previous salons without any up charge. I opted for a similar color from their regular selection, and she seemed instantly irritated that I didn't go for the up charge. Her next conversation with me was "You have a lot of hang nails!" Yes, my cuticles needed work, thus why I was there! Thought it was very off putting and did not put me in a good mood. From start to finish, my manicure finished at least 10 minutes before my friend's did. The massage on each arm lasted 10 seconds at most, and she was giving me the stink eye the entire time. Polish was very sloppy, you can see the lines where the top coat doesn't match the bottom coat. She had me put my hands under their light contraption and then sprayed my hands with something reminiscent from the 1970's telling me that it'll make my nails "dry faster" even though they were already dry. As soon as she was done with me, she was on her cell phone at her station, must have been very important for her to rush me through my service. $18 dollars for this manicure was highway robbery, I'll never recommend it or come back. read more

I went in for a mani/pedi three days ago. My GEL mani is already peeling and my toes were done very sloppy. The entire time the lady seemed rushed and preoccupied with losing other customers. After receiving a pedicure I decided I had enough time for a manicure too. The salon only had 1 other customer and with 4 ladies working it didn't seem to be a problem. When it came time to pay I was charged $40. ($25 pedi and $15 mani) HOWEVER, the sign states a mani & pedi is $35. Because I did not ask for them together I was charged seperately! REALLY?! Warning: sustaining an injury here is all too common, not to mention disgusting because they may not clean there utensils as well as we'd all like. Especially not clean enough to gouge into my skin... Also, the owner seems to disrespect long time customers in favor of walk ins which is a confusing and poor business choice.
