First of all, it was so happy to see that they had some same day appointment availability! Why that may not always be the case, some booking systems will still only show starting next day. When I showed up to my appointment, I checked in and filled out some basic, new client information. I was then taken to my room with my waxer promptly after. They use hard wax here which many people prefer, but for me hurts the most. But I don't really care what is used as long as they're hygienic, quick, effective and will not spawn in-grown hairs. My wax technician, Emily, was always professional, kind, and wonderful. She is the only reason I stayed as long as I did. In November 2025, the receptionist at the Chelsea location forged my signature on a renewed wax package without my consent. About two months before this happened, Debbie told me my package was going to run out and asked if I wanted to renew. At that time, I clearly said no. She specifically told me that when I did renew, I should go to her and not the other receptionist. Two months later, I noticed charges of over $100 from EWC on my bank account. When I asked about it, she told me it was for a package I had renewed. I told her I never renewed any package and asked if there was a signed document on file. She initially told me there was no signature. After I contacted the manager, Alyssa Lando, she sent me a copy of a document that supposedly had my signature -- but it only showed the initials "YN." I have a unique signature and would never sign using just my initials. There were multiple spaces showing my initials as consent for the renewal, which I never signed or authorized. I informed the manager that this was false. Her response was that they have never had issues with this employee and that she has worked there for a long time. I asked her to review the video footage from that day at the front desk, which would clearly show I never signed anything. She told me the footage does not go back that far -- even though I was only requesting footage from one month prior. My personal Blink camera stores footage longer than that, so it is hard to understand how a large franchise cannot access footage from one month ago. The manager was dismissive and unprofessional. The company is allowing this receptionist to continue working there despite what I believe is fraudulent behavior. I know I cannot be the only customer this has happened to. This situation was extremely disappointing and unacceptable.

I have a love-hate relationship with EWC and other big chains because the quality is so…read moreinconsistent from salon to salon. I came in as a walk-in when they opened on Saturday morning because I missed my appointment on Friday at my usual place on account of the weather. They were able to accommodate me almost immediately which I was very grateful for. EWC uses hard wax for their services, which I like because it is much gentler for sensitive skin as it grabs only the hair and not the skin, unlike soft wax. This means you can usually do more than one pass over the same area if you have stubborn hairs. Furthermore, hard wax cools down and hardens quickly so you can only apply in small patches which ensures less mess and pain. My esthetician was very nice and we made conversation while she got to work. I did feel that the wax dragged on my skin a bit so I'm not sure if the wax wasn't warm enough but it made things a little uncomfortable for me. She was thorough and tweezed some remaining strays for me and I noted that she immediately started disinfecting after my service ended so I do believe this is a very clean and hygienic salon. However, I am rating my experience 2 stars because when I returned home, I noticed I had a few bruises which in my experience is not common and usually happens with improper waxing techniques or inexperienced waxers. There were also a few spots that were not clean either. Overall, I'm a little disappointed with my experience as it had a lot of potential but failed at the execution.
