Only if I could give them negative stars:( My flight to NYC was canceled and United agent rebooked me to fly Delta but only after complaining about my travel agent. I asked for my luggage but she said it will to go Delta. Well, Delta's flight was delayed for 3 hours and then canceled. When they couldn't find another flight to NY, I asked for my luggage back. They told me United still had it and it was never sent over; strange because this was 6 hours later. I went to United Baggage service area adjacent to baggage claim for assistance. The agent kept stressing I changed flight to Delta. I explained it was only because my United flight was canceled and it was United agent that rebooked my flight to Delta. She said it was going to take long time for me to get my bag, over hour and half and told me to wait at baggage claim 5. After waiting for an hour, I went back to ask if they had received any updates. At least the second person made an effort to locate my bag. They still hadn't found my bag and told me to wait by baggage claim 5. Still waiting after almost 2 hours! read more

I'm not gonna tell you about my flying experience because it sucked so bad and you would probably feel sorry for me. I am gonna say that the flights are rarely on time and the staff was neither welcoming nor helpful during my stressed out episode of missing the 45 minute checkin... After being in Washington DC for a week for National Law Enforcement Week, I discover the day and 3 hours before I am about to leave, that not only has my flight been cancelled but they have also separated me from sitting next to my wife! United Airlines has gone downhill to the point that I will NEVER FLY them again! I have had not just one issue, but multiple issues with them. I do not want to give them business so badly that I don't even want to use the vouchers they gave me from canceling one of my flights because of mechanical reasons. On a separate incident, I booked a flight online and there was an error completing the transaction. I had to call in to speak with a reservation specialist. Somehow the flight I originally tried to book got switched so that it is flying out of a different airport. I didn't realize this until i received my e-ticket/itinerary in the mail. I called United Customer Service and they wanted to charge me $150 to fix the problem. Obviously I was upset. I live 3 miles from Washington Dulles and 45 miles from Baltimore. I was very careful to make sure I was flying out of Dulles. Regardless, I will not fly United again. They get the lowest performance marks in my book. As a side note they also charge $30 per bag checked. It is not as much as some airlines, but ridiculous that you don't even get a bag checked for free anymore. read more

I was not added to an upgrade list by booking on award travel. United employees and stand by flyers get the upgrade, what's the point of loyalty. I was delayed 2.5 hrs on my first flight then with plenty of space open in first the airline chooses stand by flyers for a first class seat. Im done here. read more

In flight video streaming was no good.. Nickel and dime you to death.. Only one out of 4-5 employees were nice at all. Plane was packed.. They lost my luggage..found it hours later and didn't get it to me till late at night.. Wouldn't recommend unless you absolutely have too.. Delta is much better.. read more

Where do I start? My flight was cancelled. I understand that mechanical issues do occur and I'm glad the plane never left the gate. That being said, over the 3.5 hours they waited to actually tell us that is mind boggling. During our wait, we were told three separate lies about our flight. First, we were told that the new part to fix the plane was going to be flown in from Cleveland. Then we were told that we were going to fly to Kansas City, re-fuel, and fly to our destination in Salt Lake City. Finally, we were told the pilot was busy getting his flight plan together so we could begin our journey. We were told the flight was cancelled about an hour later. I like to consider myself an adult. I can handle the truth. Instead of multiple lies, why not just be HONEST? Seriously. Once the flight was cancelled, there was a mad dash to a customer service kiosk in a DIFFERENT terminal. Both my wife and have a difficult time walking. We ended up near the end of the line to get new flight arrangements. It took 1.5 hours to finally have the opportunity to speak with someone. After standing that long, my back was toast. I had to find a spot on the filthy floor just so I could get some relief. My wife had to take over with a very nice but completely inept customer service agent. After one hour had passed (no exaggeration) this agent FINALLY asked for help. The new agent had us on our way in about 10 minutes. United, there were open computer terminals but no staff was there to work them. Why? Why did you have incompetent people working there? Why not have your best folks there to handle the situation? That's what great companies do. Obviously, you are not a great company. I should mention there was a supervisor there. She didn't seem to be helping folks. When I had the nerve to speak to her, she told me that I had insulted her. Yeah, great company. Once we received our voucher for taxi and another hotel stay in DC, we had a very long walk to the taxi. In chatting with the driver, he told us this happens EVERY night and in fact, they depend on it. How sad is that? We're scheduled for the same flight tonight. I hold little hope it will go as scheduled. Our luggage is supposed to be waiting for us. My guess is that it will be visiting Johannesburg long before it gets to us. If I could give zero stars, I would. Avoid United like the plague. read more

I too, like most, am done with United! They are routinely the rudest airline to fly, and they could care less! Once again we sit on the Tarmac for an hour for a regional jet service! That's after a 45 minute boarding delay! The desk attendants snap at everyone asking questions! Today I walked up on two of them having a bitchfest conversation about a co-worker. Totally inappropriate and not the first time! They are huge, and could give a damn about customer approval, but at what point do you start to copy the Southwest plan? To my surprise, all 4 legs of my quick roundtrip to Hawaii were on time, so the flights were reasonably smooth. In spite of that, United gets 1 star for their desperate attempts to upsell me at every opportunity, as if preying on your customers is going to help fix the broken mess of an industry it represents. It started with online reservations, when the $800 fare I had in my shopping cart was no longer available just 5 minutes later as I went to purchase ... and had to settle for a $1300 fare instead. The insult continued with the attempt to upsell me their "accelerator" on mileage points for $289 (when every time I've tried to use miles in the past I've been shut out on any reasonable itinerary even months in advance). When I checked in - they tried to sell me on the $289 again, and sneakily had the default set to "purchase" (so if I'm in a rush to check in, I'm probably gonna get stuck with it. Then, after watching them give people a hassle on the way out for trying to carry on a bag, and knowing I'm in the last boarding group on return, I decide to check my overnighter ... and they charge me $15!!!! And for that "service", I get to wait around 45 minutes for the bag to finally show up in Dulles. Honestly, United management team, do you really think the little bit of revenue you produce with these tricks is going to help you if it incents your customers to fly you only as an absolute last resort??? read more

Flying United Airlines over the 2015 holiday was a flawless experience. All 4 flights were on time or early. I enjoyed the in flight entertainment for free with the United App on my IPhone. I was able to watch two new movies on the app and they streamed well when on the airplane. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. My flight was delayed by an hour which would result in me missing my connecting flight. The United kiosk said my flight would arrive at 6:52 and my connection was leaving at 7:05. The lady at the kiosk was very nice but couldn't help so told me to go to additional services desk. After waiting in line the lady at the additional services desk told me the time she showed it arriving was 6:30. And I should be fine. When I asked a follow up question like what if it's not enough time to reach the connection she said I could take the 10pm flight if I missed mine. Which is fine but that's happened to me before and then the back up flight was full. So I asked if she could see if the back up flight at 10pm was already filled. She snapped at me and barked "your good! If you miss that flight just take the next" . Her face was clearly annoyed and irritated with me. She handed me my ticket and continued looking at her computer without saying anything. Flights get delayed all the time and it's understandable but treating people rudely when they are paying to fly on your airline is unacceptable. I usually always fly Alaska and should have known better. I will not be booking United again if I have a choice. read more

So, flying can be fun (if you don't do it for business regularly) or it can be a hassle (if you're trying to get to "Grandma's" house by Christmas Eve). United Airlines is generally reliable, and I have never had a problem with lost luggage. Of course, I don't travel extensively, so I'm sure they have their problems. United is not always my "go to" air carrier, since they don't always offer the best prices. But, I don't mind flying on United. It's better than some of the others. read more

Don't fly United! After receiving a text from United that my family's flight was 1 hr. & 2 min. late in Turks and Caicos, we left the airport and returned 1 hours later (2 hours before the new flight time). It turns out the flight was on time, actually early. They wouldn't let us board. The next United Flight was 2 days later. They reimbursed $270.33 per person for a total of $1081.32. The cost to us was $4254.31with all receipts to prove it. A $3172.99. loss, a night of lost sleep and tons of frustration. How is this fair? My fiancee and I were trying to fly back home from O'Hare to Dulles - trying, mind you. We got to the airport that evening, went through security, and bought some dinner and settled down to wait for flight. Then, a little before we were scheduled to take off, they texted us with a 4 hour maintenance delay. Then, when Midnight approached, they told us the flight was rescheduled for the next morning, and they put us up for the night. When morning arrived, they texted us and bumped the flight UP half an hour. Then, they proceeded to lose us in their computer scheduling system. I had to call them and use simple logic... Me: My confirmation number no longer works, and we can't get our boarding passes. United: Are you sure you're on that flight? Me: Look, I'm using the information YOU supplied. Besides, I don't see the Washington Monument, the Capitol, OR the Jefferson Memorial anywhere. I'm pretty sure I'm not in D.C.. United: You're sure? Me: (sigh) Check your systems. Do they show us landing in Chicago? United: Yes. Me: Leaving Chicago? United: (silence) Me: There, we're STILL HERE!!! Yes, Soviet idiocy. And, to cap it all off, when we finally arrived home, United offered $75 of their own Fun Bucks (to spend only with them, of course) in compensation for our "troubles." My fiancee and I each missed a day of work. We had to reschedule everything for the entire week, call in all sorts of favors, and locate and pay people to take care of a dog for an additional day. It made me so very angry, I've written my first 2 Yelp reviews for this airline and the hotel we were stuck in ($14 for 2 cups of coffee and a pack of mints; no sweetener available) and told United to cancel my Mileage Plus account and choke on the miles. Never in my Life have I been treated in such a horrible manner. I hope my review can serve as a warning to help you avoid what we endured. read more

I do not recommend United Airlines! We travel a lot. The staff is NOT nice or polite, they are difficult or at least the ones I have encountered on planes. I am trying to think of something positive to say here. They have ruined my luggage the lsat 2 times I flew with them from Dulles to Newark, NJ. I do have some recommendations. I wish they would have more non stop flights! Please make traveling much easier. Improve your snacks with food that is truly organic, veggies & herbs NON GMO, Gluten FREE, fresh veggie & herb juices and smoothies, healthy to give us strength while we travel. Teach your employees to be kind, polite and helpful. The planes like most brands have seats that are way to close to one another, uncomfortable & the person behind you may often have their knees in your back plus it is not easy to get into and out of the seats. Being only 5'2" tall and 130 pounds I prefer not to sit sandwiched between people. I can't imagine what it's like for large people if I am this uncomfortable what's it like for them. The last number of years we feel so beaten up when we are done traveling! This is not executable! Fix this. There is no reason for this. I am thinking about taking trains and driving more whenever possible. But have no choice when I have to travel international. As I travel and meet other travelers I have heard there are a few airlines that are doing this extremely well. Find them and copy them, please. read more

You know what I like about United Airlines - nothing. Their service is poor, their rude and obnoxious and their on-time performance is dismal. I had a $10,000 business class ticket (yes, it was that expensive!) from Singapore back to the U.S. Guess what, the video and audio systems did not work. A 13 hour flight with no video or audio. Then the flight attendants turned the lights off, so 13 hours in the dark with no entertainment. They give me an "apology card". It's worth 7,000 frequent flyer miles. A $10,000 ticket and this is all I get - you must be kidding! I complain, so they say they'll give me another 3,000 miles. 4 months later, still no miles. I write their pompous, self-serving CEO. I get an email from customer service, not the CEO, that I'll get 4,000 miles, which I finally did get. I am Premier Elite and this is how I'm treated. I'll be flying their competitors. I've put up with their lousy service long enough and since they apparently do not value me as a customer, I'm gone. read more

I have flown with United many times and never had a really bad experience until last Saturday when I took my mother, who as visiting me in DC, to IAD to catch her flight back to Brazil. I had already checked her in via Internet the day before, and so, we just needed to print the boarding passes and check in her luggage. We go to the United counters and we clearly see a line with a "First Class" sign... mom is on economy, so we pass it; then we see another line with a "Premier" sign, we pass it, too... and then we see one line with no sign, and one next line with a "Groups" sign. Obviously, we go to the line with no sign. As we reach the end of the line, we see the little terminals where you can print your boarding passes and I pick one... I enter mom's information and print her boarding passes. What should happen next? As usual, I expected a representative to collect the luggage tags (which are printed inside the counter) and ask for the luggage and perhaps the passports... well... this lady representative stops by and asks, not to me (she pretended I was invisible) "Whose tags are there??!!"... so I say, very politely, "They must be my mom's, I just checked her in."... The lady looks at me as if she was going to kill me and says "Well... you are in the wrong section... this is for groups, that's why the line is blocked!"... I said "I'm sorry, but the line was not blocked, and the sign for groups is down there... not here."... she then grabs the tags and asks me to put the first luggage on the scale, which I do promptly, trying to smile to see if the grumpy woman would change her attitude. Now, the weight limit (I read it at least a hundred times) on these flights to Brazil is 70Lbs... Mom's luggage # 1 was 52Lbs. The lady looks at me with an even angrier look as says "Well, it's overweight!", so I say "Excuse-me? I thought the limit was 70Lbs?" and she YELLS at me "I said OVERWEIGHT, not over the limit... I am just informing you, sir, so our employees won't break their back trying to lift your luggage...". At this point I was in a mix of anger and embarrassment for being treated like that in front of my mother... yet, I had to keep cool, because I was really afraid the lady would mess up something on purpose, for no reason... I was nothing but nice to her. Anyway, she moves the luggage out and continues writing something... and I'm waiting for her to say something... for example, "Next luggage..."... well, as if it was not enough anger in that woman, she looks at me again and asks "Put the next luggage on the scale." I say "Sure." and she continues (without any need for that) "I can't reach your luggage from here..."... so I said (holding my tongue not to say some very ugly things) "I realize that... I was just not sure if it was ok to place it there now or not...". The lady finishes her job and hands me the luggage stubs... I go with my mom to the security check feeling mistreated. I don't know why that lady thought it was ok to treat me like she did. Like I said, I was nothing but nice to her, yet, she kept trying to make me mad or something. That's such a poor attitude and horrible service. If you are not fit to perform a certain job, quit it! Look for something that better suits your personality! If you can't afford to move, deal with it then, but don't stain the image of your employer because you are unhappy... read more

Fail! Maintenance issue forces us to miss connecting flight to Honolulu. 2nd time this year! Though I am glad we had to take another plane because ours had an issue, you would think these planes are maintained to the absolute best level. Unfortunately, like any business, the bottom line is saving money, so maintenance is done on the cheap. Airline travel is so uncomfortable these days. I have flown on much better foreign airlines. I'd rather take the train -- much more relaxing, but I usually do not have that kind of time. read more

Inconsistency is terrible service. My bag was not a problem when I first boarded on my flight from SFO to Washington DC. But United (and mind you they are going through a lot of issues right now with messing up the Asian Doctor) decided to put a tag on my luggage because its too big. Yes this is a complaint. They are inconsistent! My luggage didnt change in size. It wasnt a problem on the way here. I hope this is the last time I fly with them! They are terrible! Friday - May 10, 2019 - Flight UA1785 - Wanted to complement United Airlines on their staff - more specifically Ms. Love (yes, that is her name). I was headed to Key West via Ft Lauderdale from Dulles Airport. Ms. Love was the lead flight attendant and had a rough experience with a passenger who couldn't stow her bag properly and was holding up the entire plane... she had to reprimand the passenger and remove the bag (as if the passenger couldn't figure out after almost 15 minutes of struggling that the bag had to be checked and stowed in the baggage compartment - some people). I was impressed with the way she handled herself - assertive but respectful. The flight was uneventful from that point forward; however the real highlight was a quick discussion we had about Key West - as much as Ms. Love travels - she had all sorts of amazing tips for restaurants in/around Key West. She was super sweet, made an awesome bloody mary, and was an absolute pleasure to talk with A+++ in my book - way to go United... please clone her and put her on all of my flights!!! read more

Got my 1st class upgrade. Breakfast SUCKED. Potatoes were crunchy (not cooked), omelet was cold in the center (gross). They screwed up the movie too. Not the one advertised in the magazine. Hope they do better with the maintenance data than they do with the movie scheduling. Lame excuse for the mix up (we input the code they tell us to). Flight attendant didn't seem to care. The box snack was better. Sucks that I have to fly UA for work and eat miles for the upgrade. Otherwise, I'd be looking elsewhere. A sandwich from Starbucks would have been better. At least I'd have known I was being screwed by the airport prices... Got in "early" and waited on the tarmac to get to the gate. Net result = late. FAIL! read more

For the second time in a row I am sitting waiting on a five hour delay while they fly some part from Chicago to fix a plane that should have left hours ago. The first time I thought it was a happenstance but now it has happened again. Not a coincidence. United seriously stinks. They are not only the cheapest tickets. They are the cheapest equipment and the cheapest repair system. Pay whatever you must to fly on any other airline. This airline is the absolute worst. read more

United have the worst standards in flight service that I have ever seen in airline companies. I work for an organization in DC that requires travel, so I travel a lot. Last night I was flying from Frankfurt into Washington Dulles International Airport and had an unpleasant experience and the impression still lingers. All four flight attendants were unfriendly the entire flight, forget the smiles, and one was outright RUDE. I have reached to her to alert about something and when she didn't hear me, I touched her arm lightly with the tips of my fingers as she was passing by, and she turned around and yelled : "Do NOT TOUCH me" in a hateful tone that made passengers turn their heads over! Wow!! I wish I got her name to file a formal complaint, but I was so tired after 14 hours of flight (Frankfurt was my connection point) that I failed to do it. I wish to think that this attitude has nothing to do with my European accent that I still didn't lose after 23 years of living in the USA, but I have noticed that flight attendants WERE friendly with Americans in the airplane who did not speak with an accent! Hm...I had the same observations from previous flight experiences with United. In contrast, Lufthansa which I flu into Frankfurt, was an extremely pleasant experience, and always is. I hope that United's senior management pays attention to this message and invests more into flight attendants' training. We have enough of this going on in the White House! read more

We recently booked a tour to China and the tour company unfortunately used United for its flights. What a lousy deal. First we had to pay $250 for about 3 inches of extra leg room because even at 5'1" I could not get comfortable on what they call an airline seat all the way to China. Secondly, the food was unrecognizable. Awful. And the seats are REALLY uncomfortable....so hard. But worse that our flight going to China was our flight home (which was not direct). We had to fly through SF (not OUR choice to stop). Still wanted the extra legroom. So even though our flight was from China to DC, and we had to stop in SF, we were charged for two flights for extra leg room on the return trip. This is such a rip off, cheap airlines. We had a delay of over 5 hours in SF (the connecting plane was late), and to add insult to injury, they serve NO food from SF to DC. No blankets. There was a candy wrapper in the seat pocket (gross!), the airline magazine was so worn I was sure just touching it would give me some deadly disease, and my headphone jack didn't work. The plane was so old, it had ashtrays on it and everyone had to watch the same movie. No separate screens. And this was ALL the way home from CHINA. They should be ashamed. Even in China you get a meal and drink on an hour flight for Gods sake!!!!! So when I wrote to complain, they said that they'd add my comments to the customer service survey. Do not believe in any words from customer service of United! I was told and confirmed that the ticket I was booking is fully refundable. Big mistake I made here is that I trusted what I heard from them. Later when I wanted to change the schedule I was told to pay several hundred and they refused to admit what they told me earlier. So be cautious, you cannot trust their words, only written statements hold value, and the "recorded call" will only be used against you, not themselves. United is a disaster, unfortunately we have no way to avoid it most of the time. read more

Another example of a company that just has learned to accept poor quality and poor customer service. It now looks like a minimum 2 hour delay due to a bathroom water leak. Just now they are starting to think about another airplane. United bought Continental and had proceeded to drag it down to mediocrity. No wonder the likes of Southwest are kicking your ass.
