This place is average. We can here because the line at the bubble tea shop next door was not moving and very long and this place was pretty empty with two groups trickling in and out. They were not friendly. No one greeted us when we walked in and as we left the party in front of us was acknowledged on the way out but we were not. At $7 for a double scoop of ice cream and some stale chiccharone pinwheel chips it was on the pricier side. We sampled the ice cream we got (Ferraro rocher and elote) but our server was not very helpful. We asked for coco and Ferraro rocher but ended up getting elote in our cup because she wasn't paying attention. The elote ice cream had the weirdest texture - there were pieces of corn in it and the rest of the texture had cottage cheese-like texture and was so bad that we didn't finish it. The Ferraro rocher flavor was very creamy and good. Given that there is a baskin Robbins next door, this business should probably try a bit harder to attract customers. Dios mio! That was the sweetest mangonada I've ever had, and I've had quite a few, let me tell you. Mostly in the Mission or on International Blvd. because it needs to be made right. I don't go to San Leandro every day. Hell, I don't even go every decade. How have I not been here yet after living in the area for decades?! This is officially in my top 5 dessert/ice cream spots within San Leandro! My cousin, brother, and I initially wanted to get some desserts from a different spot down the block, but they closed unexpectedly, so my cousin opted to try this place instead, and dude I am so glad we did! I've never seen or heard of the flavors of ice cream before so I chose what was familiar to me, guanabana(soursop), guayaba(guava), and the last flavor I had no idea what it was until I googled it after, fruta seca and let believe me when I tell you, all 3 flavors were hitting! Just a plethora of new flavors having a festival on my palate. I've never had these types of flavors of ice cream before. The guanabana had a smooth and creamy texture despite being a fruit flavored ice cream, as well as the guayaba. So Bomb, the fruta seca snuck up on me and I would have to say that was actually my favorite out the three. It was dried fruit ice cream and what seemed to be mixed into a strawberries and cream type situation. The color was a light pink compared to the guayaba deep pink color. I can still taste it right now. I am a huge fan of mangonadas but I've only ever had it mango ice cream, until I saw that my cousin asked the lady "Can I have a mangonada, but with the guayaba ice cream?" This just literally blows my mind, I stare at him with my jaws dropped. Nobody ever told me you can do that! I would've got a mangonada with every flavor in there! My boyfriend's parents live in the area and I would always have him take me somewhere to get dessert when we visit so I can try something new. I was in a mood for something sweet but tangy at the same time. This place popped up and I'm all too familiar with anything named United Paleteria y Neveria. Is this a chain? All I know is that they have Mexican ice cream and mangonadas. We ordered the mangonada. The standard size is a little under $7 which my bf thought was kinda steep for mangonadas. Then again we usually get our Mexican snack fixes either in Oakland near Fruitvale or the street stands in Vallejo. He didn't mind the off-season sour mangoes and prefers it over ripe ones. I love they packed it with lots of taijin and chamoy sauce. Mango ice cream could've been a little sweeter, but overall, the flavor was definitely there.
