After talking with one of owners, I was able to get direction to check the Breakers for the A/C ...did it solved the problem to reset the Honeywell thermostat. This company is no longer Chellini. It became United Services Specialists sometime in 2016. I do not know if there is a new owner or what has transpired but the level of service and communication has changed in a very negative way over the last 4 years. There are still a few techs who are very honest, hard working and professional, but only a few. My review is only for HVAC service and HVAC installation quotes. To my dismay the company no longer has excellence in service, communicating in a timely manner and a flip attitude. I mean if you want to make money you should be on top of these things. If this company wants to keep their customers they should return calls promptly, give better discounts when the customer is on the phone negotiating with the owner, have competent people manning their customer service component and be able to get equipment that the customer requests instead of being flip and saying oh well we don't have that brand. Their prices are outrageous and attitudes are nonchalant. Why stay with them when I can do business with any other company now that they have changed. Business as usual. I am not going to renew my service contract with USS. read more

I would stay away from this company. I had scheduled an appointment with them for a copper pipe repair. When I called to confirm the appointment the lady on the phone was rude. When I asked her if they needed access to the inside of the property because it's a tenant occupied rental property her response was "I don't know I'm not a plumber."......umm.......what????? Snippy and unprofessional. We had them come out for an initial estimate for a gas conversion. Ultimately we went with another service provider whose estimate was lower. When we needed additional work done, we reached back out for an estimate which was scheduled. Morning of the appointment, we get a phone call from Bill who was very unprofessional. He definitely had an attitude on the phone questioning about our previous project. He canceled our appointment saying he is not in the estimation business. It's unfortunate because I had positive impression from our initial estimate which is why I reached back out again. Horrible and grift like service. I used A.B. Chelini for many years and even after they changed to United Service Specialist. I had so so results but, I like to be loyal to local businesses. So I called them to replace the faucet on my kitchen sink. The same sink they had fixed less than a year ago. Anyway, I purchased a sink at HD and simply needed it installed. When I received the bill I was shocked that they had charged my cc $390. I called and they sent me a copy of the invoice. Sure enough, they charged me for the sink I had already purchased. My first call ended with the owner saying he would refund me the charge and redo the bill. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I called back to find out what the hold up was. The owner goes into every excuse not to refund me my money including that the customer has to pay for the gas and the cost of him leasing the office space where they were located. Completely bizarre world. Professional trade associations such as the Mid-Atlantic Pipe Trades Association, consider this price excessive. I never, to this day, have received a proper invoice. Find someone else, there are to many decent, honest plumbers out there to fool around with this sketchy crew. read more

USS had installed a brand new AC unit in my condo right before I purchased it last year. When I had the inspection, it was brought to my attention that there was an issue with the installation, which had been very poorly done. I planned to have USS fix that after the closing since it was under warranty. At the closing, we found that the heat wasn't working. USS sent a tech out to fix it. He "fixed it" and my realtor realized that the heat now would not turn off! After several hours and frantic calls with USS, another tech arrived and actually fixed the issue. He explained that there was another issue that required a part that had to be ordered, and when that came in, he would also fix the issue that was found during the inspection. All of this was done competently. USS made a sales call to me with regard to having my unit serviced, and I bought the maintenance contract for the summer and winter inspection. The tech came out on July 5. A little over a month later, there was a noise and I heard water dripping in the middle of the night. I got up and saw water seeping under the wall where the air handler is. I made an emergency call to USS, and was told by the on duty tech to "just turn it off". I spent the rest of the evening with no air conditioning in the middle of August. I contacted USS first thing in the morning, and they dispatched a tech. I come to find out that the condensation pump was clogged with gross junk (technical term). Per USS's website, this is exactly the things that preventative maintenance inspection was to cover: Flush condensate drain to protect against overflow AND Inspect and clean drainage systems. Neither of those were done. They didn't charged me for the service call, but I had to take off over four hours from work to deal with this issue because of their incompetence. This morning I found that the AC unit is once again dripping water. Again, this is brand new unit. I'm not calling USS to deal with this, I'm going to find someone competent and reputable who will do it correctly the first time and not waste my time or money. I'm absolutely disappointed in this company and would never recommend them. read more

Just stay away from these folks. I had my condo inspected before buying and the inspector found an issue with the water splitting between the tub spout and showerhead. United Service Specialists sent a plumber who replaced the faucet. I didn't use the shower until after the replacement, at which point I noticed water was spraying out from the new faucet into my bathroom. There was enough water to warp the bottom of my bathroom vanity. I sent photos and they came out the next day and found the faucet they installed was defective so replaced it for no charge. I got an estimate for replacing the damaged vanity but, rather than paying for the damage, they insisted on fixing it. The plumber came back a few weeks later and simply glued a piece of wood over the damage and began insisting the damage wasn't because of the broken faucet, but couldn't identify another potential source of a leak. Since the refused to pay for the damage, I filed a complaint with the DC AG's office but they were unresponsive to the mediator assigned to the complaint. read more

I've used four different A/C and heating companies in the D.C. area and never been happy until now. A.B. Chelini's guys come on time, are polite, do good work, and don't over charge. These guys have gone out of their way to make sure everything is taken care of, not complaining when one had to use the fire escape to get to the roof to check the A/C unit, when they constantly have to move my washer/dryer out of the way to access my furnace, or the fact that I live in a 3rd floor walk up when they carried the new furnace up the stairs. When the new furnace they installed was too loud, Bill, the owner came out the next day to fix it. Bill was also really good about finding low cost options. And Sherry, who answers the phones, is on top of things. No missed appointments or waiting hours for them to show up. read more

This is an unrenovated older home, so we actually had 3 different plumbing repair issues. Marvin came out and handled each one with friendly competence. He brought the right tools and replacement parts, which made everything go faster. We will be using USS in the future. I'm not sure where to even begin with my experience. It went downhill with one single contact Mr.Bill.(that's all I got for name of the owner) I've owned my home for 36 years... changed my HVAC system after 32 years and the new one had a part to replace. My Ex husband did the replacement of the system, so this is the first time I've had to make contact with anyone for repair. Needless to say I had a lot of questions. The phone reception is very nice. Management unfortunately lacks empathy and patience... I had a part that was still under warrenty and per Rheems webpage there were only 2 locations that I could go to for replacement. When I asked how the process worked she was snippy and impatient... no worries I still made my appointment. After 5 days including the weekend. I had not received a quote but no worries I understood mistakes happen and was able to confirm receipt. The receipt gave two charges 1. Compressor change (ok understood) 2. Warrenty paperwork not installed by USS (I have a warrenty so I wasn't sure what that was) I called back in and was directed to Mr.Bill, this is where things turned for the worst. I simply asked to explain what the charge was... his response was "I CAN CHARGE WHATEVER I WANT" "YOU CAN CALL SOMEONE ELSE... funny because I just wanted an explanation, I wanted to be clear of the charge since I had a warrenty on the part... he then went on about YOU PEOPLE call wanting lower rates ... when I explained how hurtful his tone and explanation hurt me as a new customer with questions, it put me in a corner I've felt all to often... is it because I'm black... I mean that is you people, isn't it? Do WE bother you that much to become aggressive on the phone with fair questions, that ultimately lead me to tears... In that moment I feel we all have a right to have a simple explanation of charges ... There is a way to talk to ALL people ... I MATTER! He in the end apologized but the damage was done ... I love these guys! Ten years ago, they came out at 11 AM on Christmas Day to fix my furnace. Today, my A/C stopped working on a very hot day, and they worked really hard to fit my in their schedule before the weekend. The tech spent close to an hour here, got it running again, and only charged me the basic service call fee ($115.) That was the best $115 I've spent in a long time. I also have a maintenance contract with them, and they make a point to remind me to have the semi-annual check-ups. Plus, the staff are kind and helpful, and the tech wore a mask and took all appropriate COVID precautions. I give them my highest recommendation. read more

I wanted to provide an update to my prior review. Following my Yelp post, I was contacted promptly on the next business day by the office's corporate office, expressing concern about my overall experience and seeking to get to the bottom of what happened. To their credit, I was extended an apology for the lack of professionalism and as a goodwill gesture a portion of the costs I was charged was waived as a "make good" since the service call did not follow their expected standards. The work that had been performed has subsequently been evaluated by my regular plumber and was determined to be in order. The goodwill gesture was appreciated and should had been recognized here sooner. That said, the pricing for that repair, even under the circumstances, was substantially higher than other emergency repairs I have received for other companies. That said, I credit United for seeing this through and making it clear how they operate, for acknowledging this particular circumstance, and for taking steps to make it right. read more

Had Chelini/USS changed my garbage disposal and the kitchen faucet. Overall really expensive. I got my own kitchen faucet but the overall cost of diagnosing (less than 3 minutes, $115) and replacement in the second visit was over $400 altogether. Garbage disposal with their parts was installed 20 months ago, completely not working now, but USS only warranty parts and labor for 1 year. Way toooo expensive and quality in the long-term is inferior. read more

Two weeks ago I approached United Service Specialists for a free estimate for 3-ton AC unit, gas furnace and water heater. Was fascinated by good reviews of the company on Yelp. Has been immediately contacted by Laura (the owner) with permission to send a specialist who can make an estimate. OK, so far so good. The specialist (Bill) arrives on Sat as agreed. Looks like he is not very interested in me as a client: doesn't ask me a lot of questions (I had visits from three other companies before him, so I could compare his approach to others), doesn't tell me what he will be proposing as options (and I'm looking for different options - I am not a specialist in HVAC, and the reason I'm hiring them is exactly because I need good advice, in the first place), promising to send me quote next Monday and leaving. Monday is coming, no estimates, no txt or call. Texting Bill, getting response: "waiting on price from manufacturer, they just updated price sheets. should have this evening". OK, noted with thanks. Thursday noon: no follow-up on their behalf. Texting Bill. No response. If this is the way how the company treats their potential customer, I would think twice hiring them. May be my case is just one of the kind and generally the company is good in addressing needs of their clients, but be aware of my experience with them. There are plenty of good contractors on the market, and I expect really good service from the very beginning till the end. I don't want to check how they will install equipment or service it later. Minor things are also important and should be taken care of by the owner, IMO. P.S. By the way, I was really impressed with responsiveness, depth of knowledge, sound advice, flexibility and genuine interest in me as a customer from one of their competitors. I kept hearing my toilet running and making a dripping noise which I knew wasn't as simple as the flap needing adjusting. I reached out to United Service Specialists who got back to me that day and scheduled the plumber to come out the next day. The plumber was very knowledgeable and solved my problem. I essentially got the entirety of the inside of my toilet replaced and in proper working order. At first, I was disappointed that the service fee was not included in the total price after the work was completed, but I was able to speak with the owner and work out a solutions that worked for both parties. Overall had a very good experience with this company. The day we were moving into our new house, we noticed a leak in the kitchen ceiling from the bathroom upstairs. We called AB Chelini at the recommendation of our Realtor, and they were here within 30 minutes. Within an hour, they had diagnosed the problem. We had a massive crack in our main sewer line from that bathroom. They came back Monday to attempt repair. The more they opened up the ceiling, the more problems we found. They needed us to remove the tub in the bathroom to proceed. We had the tub removed and they were back promptly to fix it. As soon as they pulled away, we had a stoppage in the main line completely unrelated to this. They came back that evening free of charge to snake the drain. Turns out it's an issue with the sewer and the entire sewer line needs replacing. They don't do sewer work, but the technician was able to give me the names of some people who do and get me all squared away. Their prices were steep compared to what my friend who is a plumber in Philadelphia said he would charge for similar work (almost double), but their quick service and professionalism was worth it. Within two weeks they knew me by first name when I called. I think they all felt a little bad for me since it was problem after problem the first few weeks in the new house, but they were great about everything! When they were here we had numerous other contractors in and out, and everyone said what a well respected company they were and that they had been working with them for years. I hope I never need to use them again but I'm sure I will... maybe if I'm lucky they'll see this glowing review and give me a good deal on replacing my 24 year old water heater next!! :) read more

Great service from everyone at United Service. Their tech, Carlos arrived on time and was very thorough in diagnosing our system. My system is a very complicated PID computer controlled with closed loop cooling water chiller, which was way out of their scope of service, but they gave it the old college try. They didn't get it working after an hour of trying, but I was happy with their effort. In the end we were not charged for the service; very honest. read more
