Thank goodness and all things for these folks today! My AC went off yesterday evening, July 16, and just didn't turn back on no matter the amount of troubleshooting I did for the thermostat. Sometime during the night the fan turned on for a little while, at which point I switched that thermostat to "cool," but by early morning the fan switched off and I was left to deal with the constant rising interior temperature. I had left a voice-mail with Shem-Tov Systems the night before, and they called me just before 10 am, got an idea of the problem, said they would send someone over to me between 11:30 and noon today. When the man came by I was eager to let him get right to work. Long story short, it was determined to be a bad blower motor that needed replacing and good thing he was able to obtain that part within 30 minutes. And when that A/C got turned back on, I was so happy and I just can't imagine living anywhere that doesn't have HVAC, especially in the summer! It was sweltering today as usual during a very hot July here in Silver Spring, MD. The other great thing about Shem Tov is they didn't charge some sort of ridiculous, marked up same day price for this work. I needed to call for assistance again with my heating system this morning. We awakened to NO_HEAT and I put in a call to ShemTov right away. They called back within an hour and I missed the call.... They tried again after another 15 minutes, each time leaving me a voice mail. When I noticed their calls, I phoned them again and they agreed to come out and diagnose ASAP. A few hours after out initial call, Yariv arrived at the door and came in to diagnose the NO_HEAT problem. It turned out the electric ignitor on our American Standard furnace was bad. He had a replacement on the truck, and within a half an hour it was installed and our heat was back on! I am beginning to be very assured that ShemTov will be available and be able to fix any domestic HVAC problem we encounter. read more

I had an emergency air condition problem the other day. I called to set up an appointment and they were quick to set up a time the following day. When the technicians came out they quickly assessed the situation. Their up front fee is 98 for the initial assessment. They found it was my compressor and were able to replace it within the hour. The total fee was very reasonable and they were very professional and friendly. I'm not sure about one of the comments about needing to use a check to pay since they take credit cards ( they charge a small percentage for that). I have placed them in my contacts and will use them again in emergencies. read more

My AC broke down in Germantown, Shem-Tov was able to get someone out on the weekend and the same day to fix it without charging ridiculous same day service fees. I will be a loyal customer. They found the issue super fast and luckily my AC only needed the capacitor replaced. They gave honest feedback and say our AC is pretty old but can still work for a while. Which I really appreciate since I was scared that I would need to shell out a lot of money for the replacement. With the current climate (covid-19), it's tough for everyone. My gas heat went out yesterday and I called Shem-Tov today (Monday morning) and left a message. They called back within 15 minutes and had a tech to my house 3 hours later (fast!!). The HVAC engineer (who was properly masked with a KN95 mask) quickly figured out the challenge and happen to have a replacement part on the truck. The replacement was quick and the fee reasonable. it's nice and warm again. Would recommend and call again if needed. read more

What a racket. We called them last summer during a heat wave when our AC went out and they charged us $187 to replace a $7-dollar hardware store fuse. They didn't even explain the fix or what else to do. Got the feeling we were being gouged because it was a heat wave. Will not use these guys again. read more

I've used these guys a few times. First time, I used them for an HVAC maintenance contract based on all the good Yelp feedback. That was an okay experience. Then another time I called because I had an emergency AC outage. They charged me for the emergency call but couldn't fix it because he didn't have the part. Got the job done quickly. Too expensive though. Charged 250 to solder copper line in condenser that was easy to get to. Charged too much for the refrigerant and charged 350 to install new fan motor and relay that were both under warranty. Will use someone else next time. UPDATE: Immediately following the above review of 3 stars, the owner of Shem-Tov looked into the services that I had received along with the charges and reached out to me directly by cell phone. We went through the service/charges together over the phone and following a mutual determination for a fair price, Mr. Shem-Tov reimbursed the remainder. As a customer, I have rarely ever had something like this occur and greatly appreciated his drive to make a customer happy. Shem-Tov just installed HVAC and chimney liners for us. Reasonable price and very smooth transaction. Some other contractors have problems with the space we had to connect the water heater B-vent to the chimney liner but Shem-Tov were able to do that without re-routing the water pipes. Also, some other contractors outsource the chimney liner installation to the chimney company for a higher fees but Shem-Tov is able to do that in-house. Overall is a pleasant experience. My HVAC has been down for 8 months. I've had 6 different techs, 6 different diagnosis's. From the low end of just needing refrigerant to the high end of needing a whole new unit. My home warranty (CHOICE) left me high and dry, and wouldn't cover the repairs or send a reputable company out to my home, so I was left to fend for myself and I came across Shem-Tov. I gave them a call and they came out the same day. They spent 5 hours meticulously breaking down my system trying to determine what was wrong. At the 25th hour, they figured it out, ordered the part and came back, spent hours repairing until the got it right. They didn't try to prove gouge me, in fact they did their best to save me money. After initially believing my evaporator coil was bad, they later determined they could fix my unit my just replacing a single component of the coil (TXV valve). That adjustment alone saved me about 40% of the initial estimate. That said, I'd highly recommend Yuriv and Shem-Tov. I'll check back if any thing goes wrong, but so far, so good! read more

P.S. to review below. Had a good conversation with owner, Hanan. In turns out the work described below had ultimately been referred to a separate plumbing company trusted by Shem-Tov. And as I mentioned below, the work ended up fine. Judging by interactions with Hanan and the other employees from Shem-Tov, I would happily work with them again and plan to do so. **** A condo unit I manage required replacement of a hot water heater by an upcoming fixed date. Two companies had been unofficially recommended by condo management, but their quotes looked high. I reached out to Yelp, and Shem-Tov responded quickly. Two reps came out to take a good look, giving a solid quote. I went with it. Their chosen installation man, Stanley, called the day prior to the date of installation to tell me that the unit called for in their quote was currently sold out. Due to travel plans, he would need to schedule for after the required fixed date. I had released back-up plans and the pricing was good, so I agreed. A couple weeks later nearing the new agreed upon date, Stanley requested to come out the day before and inspect the installation location again. A slight inconvenience... but better to get it right. Upon inspection, Stanley realized that the model they had planned on using was 4" too big for the utility closet. They would have to use the same model as before... a more expensive model. The result? An additional $650 above their original quote. The topper? Stanley calling and requesting full payment by check be made immediately prior to the inspector coming out. I came out myself to meet the inspector (to help save Stanley some time and wanting to see it myself), and found a dirty work area with the product registration card sitting soaked on the floor. In sum, the work passed inspection and the cost ended up being just a little bit less than what the originally-recommended companies had quoted. I also felt throughout that Shem-Tov would do the work well. But were the delays, extra visits, and marginal client service (payment issues and job site cleanliness) worth a little bit in savings? For you, possibly. For me, I think not. Extra note: They did not offer any electronic payment options, so had to pull out the checkbook and lick and stamp. Sigh. read more

I had dealt with another company for twenty some years and when I needed a new unit it took them over ten days to get me an estimate and phone calls were not returned in a timely manner. So I called Shemtov Systems.I had read some stellar reviews online. I was impressed that they were a smaller company and sure enough their response time was great. I called in June and they came out the same day. That night I received an estimate to replace the system. The estimate was reasonable and we agreed to go forward. Because of Covid and factory shut downs the unit was delayed. That was OK because they called me and told me about it. Communication was the key. They explained my options and stated the unit could be delayed several weeks. We decided to wait for the one we wanted. A week later they arrived and within an afternoon we had air conditioning again. Cleanup was great and this company was very Covid aware. Masks were worn and foot coverings also when they entered the residence. I cannot say enough good things about them. Five stars across the board. They are old school.
