I am furious with the complete lack of communication from the Catalina Avenue Post Office in Redondo Beach following the August 26 robbery of a postal worker, during which mail was reportedly stolen from two outside collection boxes. I only learned about this through Nextdoor -- thank you to the community member who posted it. When I went to the Post Office the next morning, there was no notice on the doors, building, or affected mailboxes warning customers that their mail may have been compromised. I personally had over $20,000 in business bill payments and a cash payment in the mail. Others could have checks, banking information, legal documents, or other sensitive personal information at risk. People need immediate notice so they can stop payments, notify recipients, protect their accounts, and prevent bills from becoming delinquent. This is the second time this has personally happened to me. The prior incident resulted in more than $100,000 in stolen/forged checks and took nearly a year to resolve with banks, insurance, and law enforcement. Also, no notice of this crime. The staff the following morning seemed unsure of the reporting process, and I had to push for direction. Given the repeated mail theft issues, there should already be a clear protocol to immediately notify and assist affected customers. To the postal worker who was robbed, I am sincerely sorry for what you experienced simply doing your job. And to those responsible, I hope federal investigators identify you quickly and that you see the inside of a federal prison very soon. USPS: When customers' mail and personal information are known to be compromised, timely public notification should not be optional. read more

So I had lost my passport in Mexico City. I immediately reported it lost online, and made an appointment to apply for a replacement passport at this USPS post office in my hometown. I downloaded the form, got all the required documents together (official birth certificate, front & back copy of official ID, passport photo) and brought my checkbook to pay the fees. When I drove here, it was a weekday morning. There was no issue finding parking, and there was a small line. It was not long before one of the post office workers helped me process my paperwork. She was nice, attentive, and efficient in her service. I wrote a check which went to the Dept. of State, and the service fee for the post office I was able to pay with card. This is one of the better USPS stations that I've been to. And I'm not just saying that because it's my hometown. They are efficient and professional in their service. read more

The clerk named "BRIE" who was assigned to passport processing duty the day I went, was rude beyond belief. I opened the door to the passport office in which she sat at her desk and verbatim she said "close my door and wait outside" and I then saw a gentleman walk in behind me and did the same thing and she proceeded to help him. I thought she was racial profiling to some extent or maybe it was that I was a woman and the other customer she helped a man. Either way, she finally started to process my paperwork and was completely disgustingly rude through the whole process. I've never ever been treated the way she treated me and I do warn others that will have to encounter her that they may as well turn back or reschedule their appointment at a different facility to save themselves from humiliation and disrespect at what should have been an easy 15 minute passport appointment. read more

They were happy talking to each other and even whispering to each other when people walked away. When I paid, the girl didn't even look at me, just circles the tracking number and hands me the receipt while talking to her coworker. If you don't want this job, no one's forcing you to be here lol, there's thousands of other jobs y'all can work at. Whenever I come here during off-hours, the self-service machine is either broken or performing software updates. If I came here at the same time during off-hours, that would be a me-problem. Tried coming to the post office at different times of the day and find that there is always a line. Most of the time its a quick 15 minutes wait. I can the postal workers are doing their best to expedite their service. This location has been low in cash, so there are posted signs to minimize the use of cash payment. Staff are nice and hard working. I have seen in other locations nearby where postal service staff just doesn't seem to care about their duties, you can tell they just do not want to be there. I live in Hermosa Beach and have a PO box there. I went all the way from Anaheim out of my vacation island with two dogs in my car to pick up a package. As I arrived the package was not there and got told to go to another location in Redondo Beach and I should ask for the postmaster or supervisor said B. As I was in line I got to the front and asked for the postmaster it was told by D, that he wasn't there. Then I asked for the supervisor It said no he was in a meeting. As another employee took me to see where the package was she said it must be in the Hb. I asked to talk to a supervisor again. Employee D stepped back with her phone and thought, "Okay, she called the supervisor," but she called the police on me. As I realized that she misused the authority of the police I called the police as well. That's when she called the police on me to speak to a supervisor. When police arrived there was very surprised that a calm lady was telling the truth and the employee just called a police officer to avoid speaking to a supervisor. If that was not enough, the police investigated to track my package and said it seemed someone put it in the outgoing mail again in Hermosa Beach. The police suggested I go back and ask if the package came back. The officer told me there was going to be no action against me and I was free to go and apoplexies with very serious faces of astonishing. I checked on my dogs and so far this whole action is against me. I drove again to my post office and asked if the package had come back. As the employee B was on her phone with the other employee D. B told me I would get canceled my PoBox and I have to deal with the postmaster. I told her I didn't do anything exactly what she told me. She said she knew me. I did not answer. I am almost 47 and she tells me she knows me. I got only that's my package coming later or so...I am then back to my local police department and told them the whole story and they sent me to the police in Redondo Beach and they took everything down. And was very strange about not only the whole thing but also found that I should file a harassment claim when my Po.box gets canceled read more

USPS was notified several times that these unsecured packages were often stolen. The RB post office contacted me once after one such complaint and although I appreciated his candor, the representative told me it was an individual carrier's choice, depending on their delivery schedules, whether or not they had time to make doorstep deliveries. Since one of my USPS carriers continued to leave packages partially delivered to then be stolen, we ended up with the cost and eye sores of installing security cameras and surveillance warning signs :-( read more

Nina at the Passport has such a bad attitude! Had an appointment today at 11:30am, but 2.5 hours before the appointment time, she texted to me she can't take the photo today so I had to go somewhere else first, now she is telling me she can't accept my form because my photo has to be on the form before seeing her and the form has to be signed prior, what a total BS! When she let a guy who had no appointment go in before me, I did not say anything. But she had the gall to tell me when I was inside, that the reason she let him go in first because he was a bit of jerk. Wow! You are a person representing the government, no? You have a standard to keep, no? You just don't say something like this! And being a jerk gets the way? What a great value system? She contradicts herself in so many ways, I wonder what's the criteria for a "passport agent". First off, she was upset that the photo was NOT stapled on the form, WTH? Lady, you are not making any sense! You WERE going to take my photo as planned until you texted to me this morning, so if you were able to take the photo now, who's going to put that piece of photo on the form? Me or you? You are not telling me that you can't staple this photo I just took from somewhere else on that form now, are you? Second, what's the difference if I sign it now or before? Everywhere I read says one has to sign in front of an agent, isn't it the whole point of going to an agent so the signature is authentic? Third, if you take walk-ins, in any sequence as your fancy dictates you, what's the meaning of an appointment? No wonder she kept telling me I should have just mailed it in and save the processing fee. If she has no rules, and gets disorganized with who has appointment and who isn't, she is bound to be behind her schedule. Now she pushes the people who do have the appointment away so she can get the walk-ins. Obviously I'm not here to save the processing fee, am I? So why would you keep telling me I should have just mail the package myself? In the past, my family and I have always utilized City of Redondo Beach Passport Service for passport renewal, there were never problem whatsoever. We prefer to have them done thru a passport agent, because mail, even the certified mail, can get lost. How could I forget this passport agency precedes its reputation? One can't really do anything with the bureaucrats, they are royals with gilded golden bowl of rice. But at the end of the day, one asks oneself: "Did I live up to my own conscience. " read more

This FIVE ***** STAR review in in tribute to USPS employee WILLIE the always professional, helpful and polite employee who worked the front windows, assisting customers for so many years. I recently was told that WILLIE retired and we never knew nor had the chance to congratulate him or say goodbye. This highlight of visiting this post office was seeing WILLIE and when waiting in line with so many options of window clerks to help you, it was sort if like winning the Lottery if you were lucky enough to have WILLIE help you when you were at the front of the line and next. I would say it would even be worth it to let other customers behind you go ahead of you to wait until WILLIE was available. WILLIE embodied all of the positive traits of a model worker and was the anti-stereotype of a postal worker. His friendliness was warm, his personality was charismatic and his demeanor was proactively friendly. We wish WILLIE well in his retirement and a well deserved break to enjoy life. i hope others at this USPS have seen how WILLIE carries himself and took the time to learn by his fine example. I hope we are one day able to randomly bump into WILLIE in his now civilian life around town to say Hello, as he took the time to remember USPS "regulars" customers by name and greet them with a smile and it would be a pleasure to see him. You don't realize how great this Post Office is until you move from Redondo to Santa Monica and find out about all the problems over there. I used to reside in Redondo and come to this Post Office all the time--Sunday 2 AM on the way home from the party--no problem--lobby is open. People in Redondo/Hermosa/Manhattan Beach area that use this Post Office may not realize that in Los Angeles City, West LA, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, the Post Office Lobbies are NOT open 24/7 like this Post Office. Because of all the Homeless and Mail Theft in LA and the West LA cities, the Post Office lobby closes when the retail closes. Retail closes at 5 PM M to F, they start ushering everyone out of the building. If you have a Box, or a package you better get there by 5 PM! or you will never get your mail. And I will tell you that people that are from Beverly Hills, Westwood, and Santa Monica that never leave there because they think its so great don't believe me when I tell them that in Redondo the Post Office Lobby is open 24/7 you can buy stamps, mail stuff, access your PO Box. I get the same response from LA people: "Don't the homeless camp in there?" And I know Redondo people like that big drive-through mailbox in the parking lot--Not in LA cities you won't find that convenience. You have to park and get your A out of the car to mail a letter--and in some locations put money in the meter. So next time you feel like complaining about the Redondo Main Post Office, take a drive over to the Santa Monica Main Post Office at 1653 7th Street, 90401 and try it out. You will never complain about Redondo again--you will be back on the 405 going 100 MPH home to Redondo wiping your brow saying to yourself--glad that I don't live over there! I was absolutely horrified when I went to the post office with my daughter and grandchildren in order to get their passports today. As we approached the counter, the postal worker behind the counter, shouted at me, asking if we had an appointment. I nodded yes. She continued shouting for all to hear that we needed to have both parents present. This was in front of a long line of people. I had to explain that my daughter is a single mother, and there was no father. I did not appreciate having our personal business revealed to a line of 20 people. The woman's attitude was hostile and rude. Later, we had to wait in line again to pay our fees and when it was our turn, this particular postal worker decided to take all the boxes in front of her into the back and then take a break. It was obvious that it was deliberate just by her expression. We went later during the day to finish our business, and the rudeness just continued with both female postal workers. Very poor customer service by Malik-- He spoke to me in a very condescending manner and poor customer service skills. He lacked empathy for those who do not have access to printers or are slower to technology than most. This location needs people who are willing to explain the process or offer alternatives on site rather than making one go out of their way to get items shipped. He was charging me a second shipping fee when I had already paid one online. He was so apathetic and with other customers he seemed pretty cheeky. read more

Okay, so I'm very patient when I go to the Post Office. I actually kind of like waiting in lines for the people watching. Anyway, I went today to ship off a prepaid label package. I was waiting in the lobby (6ft away from others) and one of the workers loudly yells "Oh my gosh LOOK $100!!" while pointing at the 'Wait Here' sticker on the ground. It took me a second but I realized she was talking to me. She kept going saying "$100!!! Wow did you see it?" I just look at her with more confusion. The rest of the customers are confused too. Then she finally says to me "You can wait in line back here. (At the sticker)". I thought maybe we were passed publicly humiliating customers who meant no harm, but I guess not. They changed the stickers on the ground since the last time I was there, so I was waiting in an unmarked area. I don't know why *this* was the way to communicate what you needed. I've lived in Redondo Beach off of Lucia Ave for about 3 years now and I've never had such a poor experience with mail in my entire life! I've had packages lost and mail missing many times. We receive mail for our neighbors on a daily basis. It makes me wonder if the carrier even reads the addresses before putting in our slot. Our mail carrier seems to be different every single day. The post office doesn't answer the phone. Most recently, I had two cashier's checks lost totaling $17k and no one at post office seems to care or willing to help me. Last week, I received a wedding invitation that was 8 months late! We thought that we were not invited to the wedding of our good friends. Horrible!!! I have a package that has been "out for delivery" for several weeks. I thought maybe it was at my local USPS office, but I was told to call the N Catilan office to find out more. Well, I tried doing that, and after 30 seconds on the phone with Angela, she explained that she couldn't help me because she had other callers on hold, and then she hung up on me. Literally, while I was in the middle of a sentence, she hung up on me haha I was like, wtf? Called her back, and she told me she didn't have time to help me. Her supervisor's name is Ms. Solomon, and I'm looking forward to speaking with her. Angela should not be working in customer service, period. Had to come to this location because it was the only one near me open on a Saturday due to covid hours. The guy in front of me sent something media mail. The woman asked him what it was and he said it was a video game. She said (correctly) that wasnt allowed. The man didn't challenge her but after a pause said, "He let me do it yesterday," nodding to her coworker. She asked him if that was correct l, and her coworker mis-cited the rule. I also had a media mail package, a book. But she said to me and not the previous guy, "Your package will be subject to inspection." I said loudly, "You mean it will be opened?!?" In this covid environment, that idea was shocking and dangerous to me. I still opted in but later I got mad: why did I get the warning and not the white guy with the video game? It felt like an accusation. My husband just looked at the tracking and apparently the package is being returned. The reason listed has to to with the mailing address, but I'm not buying it. Lazy workers unfortunately. My mom left her license here. We called multiple times, spoke to 3 different people asking if anyone returned it or was put in lost and found and always got a response that nothing was there or found. My mom was convinced it was there because they had needed her license. So we decided to go in person, asked a white male, he brought out the lost and found basket and the license was the first thing to pop out. So embarrassing for the guy to have a dumb look on his face especially for being so rude. Wish I would have gotten his name. read more

This Post Office should be shut down. Dropped a package off there to be mailed to Wisconsin, a month later, it still hasn't made it there. Numerous reports of thefts of cash from cards sent.
