I had Universal come out to fix a tankless water heater. They acted like they didn't know what to do and had to look at the manual i had. Went away with little information. I paid for that service call. A call back said that I needed a part that was about $1,000 that was sure to fix to water heater. The same two came back and installed this expensive part. Less than two months later, the issues started again and I had no hot water again. I called and was told that they likely had to replace the entire unit on a 9 year old unit. They quoted $5,000 or more. I balked and had to postpone due to a serious illness that sent me to the hospital 4 times. They then said they would put a lien on my house if I didn't pay. After many calls, they finally decided to drop all charges and stop servicing me. I later checked and a tankless water heater should cost between $1,000-$2,000. Needless to say.... I got ripped off and filed a complaint with BBB who said they were not a member. read more

We live in Santa Fe and have used Universal for a number of years. It is a high end home with with our own water well and water purification system. Universal has always been prompt, professional and dependable when we call. I am super picky about maintenance and repairs and they have always been great. As for cost, you get what you pay for and it's really hard to find reliable and dependable people of any sort in Santa Fe. read more

Universal Plumbing has been my choice of plumbers for over 20 years. I live in Las Campanas and unfortunately I've met a lot of plumbers who are not very good plumbers and other plumbers who were very disappointing. Universal Plumbing always performs for me, on time, dependable, reliable and they price their work very fairly. I highly recommend them. read more

I recently had a absolutely horrible experience with Universal Plumbing. They actually had the gall to charge me for work that they did not do and the work that they did do had to be redone because they used the front adhesive on the pipes. In addition, they told me that they had snaked the sewer line from the kitchen which when I went to use the brand new kitchen proved to be nothing but a total lie. Prior to finding out they had lied to me about supposed work done, they did not follow through with two long scheduled appointments. When I tried to reach their office by telephone, I had to leave a message and to this day, no one has returned my call. PLEASE do NOT use Universal Plumbing for even a faucet drip. S.H. I have been using Universal plumbing for a number of years. I have been on the whole satisfied with their work. However, I have had to call back about pricing when an apprentice was sent out on two different occasions with Paul, and my bill increased commensurately (half as much again, bringing their hourly rate to $165) even though the same amount of work was done in the same amount of time as on previous occasions (without the apprentice). Another time, Paul was fixing the plumbing inside the cistern and the cistern broke. It was not an old toilet. Universal wanted me to pay the full price for the replacement toilet. In the end after talking with them, I paid 50%. I felt there was a hostile attitude on their part when I questioned the above issues. I felt I was being taken advantage of financially in these instances and told them so. They were not happy. Brenda accused me of being a complainer (not true) and suggested I take my business elsewhere in the future. I think this was unnecessary and not good business practice on their part. I have always paid my bills immediately and recommended them to friends. It is my right, I think, to question them when I feel I am being unfairly charged. I did not expect this kind of treatment. Do not waste your money on Universal Plumbing in Santa Fe. They quote one price, then charge you another. When I told them I had a clogged toilet and shower, they quoted a price. But when they showed up, they said they needed to clean further down the drain, and it would cost a lot more. The office did not tell me there is a difference between a clogged toilet and a sewer drain cleaning. They charged $300 and did not do the job correctly. The drain clogged again within two weeks. I called another plumber, Henry Valdez, who quoted prices clearly, found the cleanout in our house, and did the job correctly. It has been a year, and the drain is fine. Instead of apologizing for being unclear about pricing, Universal Plumbing blamed me for not asking them about pricing other then a simple clogged toilet. The owner, Tony, told me it was my fault. He told me never to call them again, which, of course I would not do anyway. You shouldn't waste your money and time with Universal Plumbing in Santa Fe either. read more

They did totally unnecessary work. It was only after I paid them that I came to learn this. When I called them to sort it out the women on the phone were verbally attacking of me. I asked to speak to the owner. I was told repeatedly that he would call me at specific times. He did not. He left me one voicemail after hours (not calling at the agreed time) in which he reported things he was hearing from the women in his office that were factually untrue, and he did not indicate any interest in getting to the bottom of it or making it right. The unnecessary work they did also led to a delay in my getting the actual leak that my house did have correctly addressed by another plumber. The delay meant more ultimate expense in my water bill and in the resultant water damage. They have not refunded me for the unnecessary work or shown any respect in communicating with me about it other than to blame me for being a "problem". read more
