I was seriously missing NY pizza but this place saved me. I got their well known 'mega slice' and yes it was a lot but I managed to finish it because it was that delicious. What a gem! The extensive menu gave me pause because it is usually a sign that everything is mediocre. Not here! I ordered greek, my companions ordered pizza and burger and all of it was fresh, delicious and in very generous portions. UGrill is a BU staple, and I will always be shocked how it remains a bit of a hidden gem (despite being in the center of campus) to students for their first few years at BU (I didn't discover it till I was a senior!) It has been a hit ever since I tried it, and they do a great business with staff/faculty too, (I feel lucky I worked at BU for five years undergrad so got to go frequently!) The family (dad and brothers) who own the place are the kindest people, always willing to chat, and recognize their "regulars" right away. Great fries and subs, and BIG portions, I tend to stick with those since they are so good, but heard great things about their gyros and just about everything else as well. Stopped by University Grill & Pizza on a Saturday night for dinner. I'd been working late on campus and wanted to try something new. I had walked passed University Grill & Pizza many times and never really given it much thought. So I decided to finally give it a try. The place was surprisingly full for a Saturday night. I decided to try the Greek Salad Roll-Up. It came out fast and was HUGE! It was the length of my elbow to my wrist. The pita was wrapped so nicely around the lettuce, tomato, onions, olives, cucumbers, and feta. It was truly a wonderful Greek salad in wrap form. And for the price, it was definitely worth it! Glad to have discovered a new spot to get a fresh wrap when I want my Mediterranean fix. read more

"What can I get you buddy/honey?" - the guy who takes most of the orders at this BU stalwart is considered charming by some and annoying to others. I personally don't mind him. Calling me buddy is fine - it'll be interesting if he ever calls me honey though. I ate a quick cheap dinner here on my first trip to Boston and was bewildered by the menu. Like most greek-run takeaway joints they covered as many cuisines as they could - pizza, burgers, gyros and subs. I asked what was good - and it was chicken parm sub. And it was good. So brownie points to buddy/honey man for the suggestion. U Grill was on my bucket list of places to check out while at BU. For the past three years, I've walked by U Grill without so much a glance, but I decided to take the chance this summer to try it out. How regretful I am to have not discovered its awesomeness sooner. Admittedly, I've only tried the chicken soulvaki & gyro (both Greek items) since there's a mysterious lack of Greek food in Boston. Seeing as the establishment is run by a Greek family, you know the Greek food is authentic here. Compared to the "Greek food" served at Steve's on Newbury St., U Grill is like a blessing in a college sub shop disguise. I wasn't interested in the burgers, pizza or subs, but I do hear that U Grill can excel in these items too! I now have to resist the urge to order a chicken soulvaki here every week. read more

The U Grill is a subshop on Comm Ave located near Boston University. It is definitely the go to place for takeout in the neighborhood... the people that own it are super nice.. no seriously so nice. They greet everyone with a smile and are so genuine with it. So they have your basic subshop items.. and they also have Greek food too. Their gyro is AMAZING! The yogurt/cucumber sauce on it is so delicious too.. What I usually have from there are the basics like BLTs, eggplant parm subs, salads, and even a hotdog ... and they are all delicious and something we want to go back for when we're in the area. Because the family is Greek, you won't find any frozen lamb slices here - you watch as they cut off the meat cooking on a spit right in front of you! You can top it anyway you want (onions, tomatoes, lettuce), but don't skimp out on the homemade Tzatziki! YUM! If you like gyros - you'll love them at U Grill. If you've never had a gyro - make sure your first is at U Grill If you hate gyros - try one from U Grill, and you might change your mind! It isn't very pricey, the guys working there are nice, and the burgers, wraps, and fries are better than Rhett's or any place nearby. The only problem is the lack of seating inside, but there isn't anything they can do about that. Plus if you're having a bad day there's nothing better grabbing a pile of steaming, crispy french fries and a coke. And in that sense this place delivers big time. read more

Big Ups to University Grill & Pizza! Was up by BU and just walked by as my stomach was rumbling, so thought we'd stop in. We both had burgers, and may I say... "UM!" Sloppy and tasty- just the way I like 'em! White Cheddar was a nice little touch. Fries were good too, though they could have been just a little bit more cooked. Kudos to the staff, too. Oh U Grill...This is going to be emotional... I went to ENG at BU, so I pulled my fair share of All Nighters, and U Grill kept me warm in those winter nights. U Grill feed me Italian cold cuts sandwiches in the hot summers. U Grill's cheese steak helped me through the exams period, and its meatball sandwich re-stalled my wills of push forward on the projects. Almost everything I've eaten here has been awesome. I would recommend: any pizza (especially a slice), any burger, or any sub. Their fries aren't bad either, and the Greek salad is as advertised. I tried their pasta once (I got pasta with chicken and broccoli) and it was sub-par (pretty much flavorless, however it was a very generous portion)... So basically just don't order that and it's the best place ever. The guys who run this place are always friendly and easy to talk to. I can only imagine what it's like to see a new customer walk into this restaurant with a glazed look over their eyes, staring at the big menu on the wall (must be maddening), and they've always been patient until you were ready to order (at least in my experiences). I love University Grill. I work at BU, and when I eat out for lunch, it is usually where I end up. It's a family owned business that is very small and gets very crowded, so I have a menu on my desk and call ahead to get my order for pick-up. I've always had friendly service, and they are always willing to give me a pickle instead of cole slaw. The prices are great and the portion sizes generous. They have a daily special that can cater directly to the family's Greek roots. I never say no when moussaka is the special. read more

Great place to get a gyro and fries! The staff is always super friendly and efficient. I am not a huge fan of their pizza and sandwiches but the gyros, the chicken fingers and the fries keep me coming back. It can get pretty crowded in here so I'd recommend getting everything to-go and bringing it home, or, in the summer, crashing some place across the street at BU and having your meal al fresco. read more

I go to BU and whenever I walk by this place I always wanted to try. I really like gyro but I couldnt find a good gyro near campus or my apartment. They were advertising gyro so one day I just went in. Gyro was really good! It had A LOT of meat inside! But because it had too much meat and little bit of lettuce and tomatoes, it was a bit too salty for my taste. But it was still so good so I went back a week after. Ordered gyro again but this time I asked them to put less meat and more veggies, which came out to be even more delicious than the first time!!! It wasnt too salty and had more fresh taste. It was absolutely hoppin' at lunch time here. I got a small pizza for just six dollars. It's a little on the greasy side and it's sort of in the greek style which others have mentioned. However, it's what I would call good bad pizza. Sometimes I crave different kinds of pizza and while this is no elegant margherita pizza, I happily wolfed this down in ten minutes. Since I just moved right next door I am sure this will become a late night staple for me. I can't wait to try some of the sandwiches. The guys who own the place are great! Also even though plenty have mentioned that it's cash only I feel like mentioning it again. It's just become so rare for places in Boston not to take cards. It's not like this is the North End- it's a busy college area! While they have prominent signs displayed to make sure you're aware, I find it to be a bit of a drawback. read more

Moving into BU three years ago as a freshman was daunting as hell. The first night, the dining hall wasn't open yet, so I wandered outside and decided on a burger for the night. And the closest place was UGrill. I've been going back ever since. Pros: -HUGE PORTIONS. HOLY. MOTHER. OF. GOD. For $10, you can get a 1-pound triple bacon cheeseburger with all the toppings and fries and a damn drink!! The hangover can kiss my ass!! -Great subs. The Chicken Parm is as good as it gets around here, and the gyros are tasty and very authentic, including the tzatiki sauce with yogurt and cucumber. -Awesome service. It's a family-owned joint with three brothers, who are all pretty cool and friendly towards the hordes of BU kids streaming in and out every day. Cons: -They used to not take cards. They do now. HALLELUJAH. -Fries are a bit soggy at times. -Salads are great, but the chicken is dry sometimes when it's busy. Overall, this is a BU institution that is almost a rite of passage for BU kids. I been going to the U Grill since back in 2001 when I landed in Boston as a freshmen at BU. 10 years later and 2 degrees under the belt and I still make it a point to drop in whenever I find myself in that part of town. The owners are great and are real Greeks who make you feel like your part of the family.
