I had an out-of-state move and hired movers through "Best Movers in Town" through the Uhaul website. I spoke with Cal on the phone the Wednesday prior to my move which was on a Sunday morning. I told Cal that I needed the movers to arrive at 9:30 AM and he said no problem. I emphasized that I couldn't risk the job starting later than that because I had to get to my first destination for my out-of-state move at a certain time. I told him if there was any chance they would be late to let me know then and I will schedule other movers. He reassured me they would be there at 9:30 AM. I even sent a text message with the details of the move and time as well. 9:30 AM rolled around on moving day and no one was there. I called, it rang 4 times and went to voicemail. I left a voicemail, nothing. I called again, nothing. I called again, nothing. I broke down in tears (I am a single girl and had my 65 year old mother with me who had just had wrist surgery, so I was on my own). Cal didn't call. He texted me at 11:47 AM (remember the job was scheduled for 9:30 AM) saying, "Hello this is Cal with Best Movers in Town. I'm very sorry I'm just realizing that my guys did not make it to the job because they are at the first job still." Absolutely unacceptable. I should have been notified at the time my move started or before. I've had guys show up late before for a move, but they gave me a heads up. At 9:20am, I asked for another update and was informed that they were unloading a different job and was "guaranteed" to be helped shortly. 11:47am I again had to get a status update, and after finally being told they would be on site, it was too late. We had already completed the work on our own. Not only were they 5hours later than scheduled, they made no attempts to give me updates unless I reached out. During the most recent interaction, I was charged unexpected extra fees. When I questioned them, the representative hung up on me. I called back to request assistance in recovering funds through Groupon. The representative again stated that Groupon is a third party and not their problem, then hung up on me a second time. Email from Lisa (for reference): "Thank you for sending this over. We have 6/12 arrival 630-7am. For the Groupon we will need the Groupon redemption code and I can send over our contract and payment link for the trip fee $100 + $40 mileage fee and $90 moving supplies that are required to properly protect and handle your belongings (stretch wrap, mattress bags and tape). On the day of service any additional hours are $180 prorated in 30 minute increments rounded up. Please let me know if you have any questions Thank you Lisa" You may verify yourself whether these additional charges are clearly disclosed in the original Groupon description. Edit after laughable response from owner: I have receipts from th bank showing I received a full refund. No need to lie. Service Issues: * First Move: The crew initially performed a walkthrough and appeared professional. However, after the move was completed, they had forgotten one of my televisions. Despite pointing it out, they offered no solution and simply left. I was forced to arrange separate transportation for the large TV myself. While the crew was polite, the lack of accountability after a walkthrough was unacceptable. * Second Move (No-Show): The movers failed to show up entirely. I filed a dispute with my credit card, which resulted in a full refund. Credit Card Refund Confirmation: "We are writing to inform you that a refund has been initiated in connection with your recent transaction with Soft Touch Moving. After reviewing your dispute and the details provided, we have processed a reversal of the applicable charge. The credited amount will be returned to your account ending in **** within 3-5 business days, depending on your financial institution's posting times. No further action is required from you at this time. If you do not see the refund reflected after the stated timeframe, please contact us so we can assist you further. After that, expect the rent rate to double at a minimum.. then what will you do.. spend money to hire people to move you entirely out? No. They got you, and they are allowed to do this. Is it right? No. Other places don't do this, like U-Haul, Self Storage... they are pricier up front but when you average it over 12 months.. take the mean cost.. it's cheaper. Then.. have you ever missed a payment on ANY bill in your life? You think the contract follows govt rules? Bet again. This location specifically will violate your rights and flat out lie about it. They will give you the run around, specifically gave me a phone number "to corporate" that was out of service, then made me speak to a poor girl on the phone that had no idea what was happening she was just a front desk girl, the coward manager wouldn't talk anymore because she knew she was in the wrong... missed one payment and THEY AUCTIONED OFF EVERYTHJNG. I got a text message saying "thank you for being a loyal customer". Oh I'd say they should have probably picked someone more ignorant than myself to do this to... but then again I would also guess they do this a lot. Just so happens I am a fantastic record keeper and have a lot of time on my hands as well as resources. Do YOURSELF a solid by going somewhere else, though. Because ethics matter when you store items that matter.. otherwise you wouldn't be storing them, right? You'd just give them up in the first place. This company has an entire side business making money off auctioning off units. If it's part of their annual revenue, and they rely on it... don't do it.
