This review is for the service department. University VW has serviced my car three times now and I always leave happy. When my car was brand new it had a faulty a/c component that they diagnosed and resolved within 3 or 4 days. I was provided a loaner during that time which was great. The second time I came in without an appointment for a nail in my tire. They were able to replace the tire same day. Most recently I was in for my first scheduled service at 8800 miles/1 year. I was quoted 2 hours or less so I waited and had my car back after an hour and a half. While you wait they have a complimentary water/coffee station! They also wash your car when you're in for service which is appreciated. Overall my experience has been a positive one and every service advisor I've worked with has been very knowledgeable and helpful. 10/10 recommend University for all your VW service needs! read more

Took my 2001 VW Golf here for an oil change a little bit ago.. Bought it from someone who told me it hadn't had an oil change in years.. Oil was black and very dirty. Paid $120 for the oil change, got a complimentary car wash, cool. Drove home and checked out how they did.. Oil still black, still dirty, no oil change was done.. Purchase price after negotiation and VW rebate was good given the current inventory levels of the particular vehicle & color across all dealerships in the state (and in Oregon) at time of purchase and buying before spring/summer when demand is higher. When it comes to customer service and integrity, I prefer University Volkswagen over the dealership in Shoreline. University VW did a complimentary inspection on my car and patched my tire for free, and all was done within a couple hours. They also notified me of a recall issue and fixed that at the same time. Since I have an electric car, there isn't much to check (no oil changes and minimal parts). The other dealer wanted to charge me the same inspection price as the gas model of my car (has a much bigger maintenance checklist), so that didn't make sense to me. Each time I've visited University Volkswagen, I felt like I was well taken care of and people were helpful and honest. read more

Used to take my car here whenever I needed service, but lately I've gotten consistent horrible customer service. The last 2 times I've called in the rep has had a condescending, unhelpful attitude. Once for recurring issue, they had no reassurance for the quality of work. As well as charging my card without doing any work or contacting me. A second time trying to locate the key for lugnuts with a flat tire, I was told I was out of luck if I didn't receive it when I purchased the vehicle. We asked for a safety check for a long trip as well as an oil change. Our VW Eurovan report said that all brake pads had 7mm left. Thinking that this didn't sound right we then took our van to Les Schwab. The rear brakes had 1 and 2 mm left. At 3 mm they should definitely be replaced. We had Les Schwab replace both rear brake pads. We also asked for the parts to verify this. University Volkswagen has lost our trust. read more

Just got a call back from a mechanic. I had my Volkswagen Golf serviced by this shop. They had told me my rear brakes needed replacing and that my engine was leaking and that it was a head gasket. $4000 estimate. They showed me videos of the oil on the engine. I was suspicious so I declined the extra service and just shelled out the hundreds for the glorified oil change. I took it another mechanic and he told me there was no sign of an oil leak and he suspected that the Volkswagen shop spilled the oil themselves and then claimed it was this expensive issue. On top of that I asked the honest mechanic to change those rear brakes and he said they had lots of life left...shocking! Well I'm done with this shop. March of 2024 at University VW I traded in my 2013 Golf for a GTI, 36K on it,, after it passed their pre sale inspection with flying colors, ( after they pencil whipped the check list ) I bought it in good faith, its a dealership for effing sakes....... 3 weeks later the front end started knocking. I took it in to another VW dealership. Carter VW... It was closer and I was afraid to drive very far. Steering rack and tie rods are bad says Carter VW , 4K to repair. The knocking sound was so loud Univ VW should have and did hear this knocking 100% ...The Carter VW dealer also found a seeping Turbo as well... 4K to repair this. but I did not. I called University VW and they would not take my call but did call the other VW place who found my issues to confirm issues... I made an appointment to see Carter VW again after they fixed my front end. 1 week before my second visit to Carter VW The car was acting strange. Carter VW agreed. The car was a mess...Carter bought the GTI from me. gave me fair trade in even with all the problems, they paid off my loan from the GTI and got me into a brand new Jetta. University VW flat out sold me a car they knew had a trashed front end and seeping Turbo. during my test drive with Univ VW a month prior, I did hear this knocking. They said it was the German suspension. Being a fact authorized VW dealership, I believed them. Univ VW who cost me 4K and another 4K pending for the turbo... 6 months prior, my 2013 Golf I had needed a cam timing sensor. They installed one, 800 bucks. They put in a used one.!! Stay away from University VW seattle WA. They are unfit to do business. a complete circus.. 2 repairs, 2 diff cars and nothing but Fraud.. The sale of the GTI, was not fit for the road safety wise. Along with all the lies to my face no less, I am not done with this place. Summary: Scam alert, they will charge you for an alignment even if you don't need one. We brought our car in for 5 year service with only 38,000 miles on it, shortly before this we had just worn through the first set of tires and had them replaced. UVW recommended we get an alignment. I suspected there was a chance we didn't need an alignment yet, but I trusted that if it did not they would only charge us for the labor of checking it. An alignment check is a complementary service at many tire and suspension shops, so a small fee for checking it should be the worst case scenario. When they returned the car to us, the 'before' on the alignment sheet shows the car was within tolerance, and then the 'after' shows some things in the red. I asked Kyle at the counter what it meant, and he said something like "there's something going on with the printer today." At this point I look closer at the alignment sheet and start doing math. The toe on the left and right and the steer ahead has to do when them turning the steering wheel when it is on the rack. Negative toe on the left wheel is it turned to the left, and positive toe on the right wheel is it turned to the left. Apparently the scam is to purposely handle the steering wheel procedure incorrectly so the second half of the alignment sheet shows things are out of tolerance, and then tell the customer the before and after got swapped. If you're looking for maintenance on your Volkswagen, I would absolutely not recommend bringing it here. Here are a few stories: I brought my car in for a routine oil change, and for some reason they took my fuel injectors off... they didn't put them back on so when I drove away diesel went all over my engine. I had to pull over on the side of the road and they had to come and get the car and it took them about three days to fix the issue. When I picked my car back up the under padding on my hood and my entire engine and floorboards and mats were completely covered in diesel and I couldn't even drive the car. I had to then again bring my car back in for a few days of them cleaning it... I felt like they took an extra long time doing this because they were upset. I was bringing it back again. Mind you, all I wanted was an oil change. They offered me two free oil changes for my inconvenience, and I stupidly brought my car back... the next time I got my oil changed I decided to also have my drain tubes cleared from my moonroof. They charged me full price for this, and it still was leaking when I left. So I brought it back and they told me that my drain tubes needed to be replaced. I asked them why they didn't tell me this before when they were cleaning them out and they said they didn't even check... they just flushed out the drain tubes and didn't even look at them... when I asked if I could have my drain tube replaced with the money that I already paid for them to be cleaned taken off of that balance they said no. I said that was ridiculous and I shouldn't have brought my car back because I don't trust them anyway. And now I have more of a reason to not trust them.... Then the front desk guy laughed at me and said " if you don't trust us why do you keep bringing your car back here?". I should be able to trust a Volkswagen maintenance shop. Yes, I am updating my review back to 5 stars. Mistakes and miscommunications happen, that's life. I think what's really important is when company's take ownership of their mistakes and work to resolve them. I really appreciate the sales manager Chris for doing this. Chris gave me a call yesterday and apologized for the situation. Stephanie had talked to him and he also read my previous Yelp review. I was surprised when he actually thanked me for the way I wrote my feedback because he felt like it was constructive criticism and could help him with coaching. He also asked if there was anything else missing from my yelp review I'd like to mention which I appreciated. The whole conversation was a very non-confrontational and friendly which put me at ease in an uncomfortable situation. Another thing I really appreciate about Chris is that he is very proficient at finding solutions to issues/concerns. He's a creative problem solver. When I was leasing my car, he worked really hard to offer different solutions with payments and financing that worked within my budget. Then with this situation, he read my concerns of University Volkswagen not sticking by what their employees promise and the fact that it was a waste of my time to keep driving back and forth to the dealership for a tank of gas. He resolved my concerns by actually offering to come to me and fill up my tank of gas when I need it so I didn't have to come back to the dealership. He also reiterated that since this was promised to me, he wanted to make sure it was completed regardless of what happened before. As an added bonus for the miscommunication, he also offered me gift certificates to an Ethan Stowell restaurant to make up for it. I was just blown away. Talk about going above and beyond. This is the University Volkswagen I had experienced before. I'm back on board! I think this actually made me like University Volkswagen more than I did before. read more

I came in at about 8:30 am on a Friday for a tire rotation without an appointment. A technician parked my car for me while I went into the service desk inside. Pedro was very helpful and friendly getting me set up. During the service, you get text notifications and you can watch a little video about the inspection with the technician's recommendations. At 10:30am, I was notified that the vehicle was ready with a text. I was super pleasantly surprised to see that they also rinsed the outside of the vehicle and vacuumed the floor + mats inside. They also let me know that they replaced some lug nuts which I was missing (yikes!) and replaced a part on the gear shifter due to a factory recall. Way over and above my expectations. They washed my unit after service. In my opinion I believe they are reasonably priced for an oil change compared to price for an oil change for.my Mercedes is much higher. The "you fill in the adjective" so-called mechanic left the oil filter seal on top of the new one creating a less than favorable seal and I drove like this for 9,000 miles spewing oil everywhere. The you fill the adjective mechanic was too visually impaired to notice an excessive oil seal last weal when they fixed my ignition. I also had two very bad control arms and a bad tie rod they missed. If you have children who ride with you do not take it here for service. I tried speaking to the service advisor sommer about this and she made excuses for him like Casey Anthony's lawyer did in court. We were serious buyers looking for a very specific trim level not available nearby, so we made arrangements to drive an hour out of our way to see the car at University Volkswagen. I feel we were very clear in communicating our needs, we are only interested in this specific trim level and were coming to them to see it. It was clear that scheduling was to be around the salesperson's convenience -- not ours -- and they insisted on a specific appointment time, or earlier. When we arrived after rearranging our day to accommodate their schedule, they casually informed us the car wasn't available then, but it MIGHT be if we came back over three hours later. They tried pushing completely different trims and unrelated used vehicles which we had been very clear, multiple times, that we were not interested in. I called to follow up and the representative told me that by scheduling online, I selected the main shop, but what I really wanted was the express. They scheduled me an appointment for today at 9:00. Terrible business and terrible business practices. gave me incorrect information over the phone which led me into spending over $500 on a PRE PAID service I already had and they told me I have. I called my other Volkswagen I purchased the care through and they confirmed I have care. The women working there are obnoxious and rude and belittled me the whole time I was there. They clearly don't care about customer care at all. Kyle was the only person who stopped, listened, cared and helped us. We had an active loan through VW credit on the vehicle, salesman made it clear we could ONLY sell it back to the dealership and could not sell through CarMax etc. due to having a loan with them. He made up an entire story of all the hoops we had to jump through - complete lies. Selling it to CarMax was super easy! They offered us 7k more than Volkswagen was willing to give us for the car, to the point where Volkswagen wanted US to pay them more to take back the car . Wow. Just...WOW. University Volkswagen goes above and beyond and then some. The only reason we came here, at first, was because our Tiguan needed emergency maintenance and this was the closest dealer. However after our experience here, we will not be going anywhere else. Everyone, from sales to maintenance and everyone in between, was friendly, competent, and communicated clearly to us and to each other which meant we didn't have to repeat our whole spiel to every person we spoke to. (all of this is already drastically different in comparison to other area dealers we've been to.) Shortly after our service was completed (at no cost because the issue was covered under warranty) I got a professional video emailed to me in which the technician showed me the undercarriage of our car while inspecting the break pads, the alignment, the tires, etc. And if that wasn't enough, they: * washed our car. * paid for a lyft ride to bring my husband back to work while they worked on the car * were covid conscious and my husband appreciated the sanitizing and social distancing measures. * followed up a week or so later to make sure everything was still running smoothly. (It was/it is!) Every once and while you go to a place, like this, that really hits it out of the park. Months later my husband and I still remark about this experience. They demonstrated what outstanding customer service looks/feels like, not just in the dealer/car maintenance world, but in all industries. read more

We got a recall if not fixed can result in a fire . Volkswagen still doesn't have a remedy after 2 months . The notice said we can get a car diagnostics while waiting for a remedy . I called this dealership , the customer rep said the diagnostic might not be free. I was very confused. We can smell some fuel and worried about our safety , I'm not asking a diagnostics for other problems. We particularly asked a diagnostic related to the recall to understand if we actually got impacted. The rep literally said we can smell fuel could because we got into an accident . I clarified many times why we asked for a diagnostics and we didn't have any accidents. No matter what said she wouldn't care. I was so frustrated I said you do know this is a bs saying right ? Your company advertise that customer safety is a priority , you don't have remedy for a recall , and is not willing to do diagnostics for free? The rep said since you are cursing on me , the call is over and she hung up. I did not curse on her , I said what you said is bs . I then called many many times, they did not pick up. My tire burst on the highway and had my car towed here. Michael Oldham got in contact with me and he was so wonderful! He had great communication with me about the status of my car and they have a texting feature that makes it so easy and casual to stay informed about the progress. They also have a great feature too where the technician working on my car, Kris Butzer, sent me a video of him talking me through everything he was doing. He was so great and made me feel so involved in the process! He fixed my flat and even topped off all my fluids and rotated my tires. When they were done, they set up a ride for me to get there - so I didn't have to spend an additional $20 on a ride. I bought my 2018 VW Beetle Coast in November 2017 and have taken my car there for all servicing needs and loved it. But my experience yesterday was not good. I brought it in for the annual oil change service. They gave me my keys saying my car was ready to go but it wasn't. You could see the hood wasn't fastened so I pointed it out and she fixed it. I then took off and the alarm for the trunk came on showing it was open as well. I pulled over to close it before getting on the freeway. I then parked in my work's parking garage and when backing out of my spot at the end of the day, there was a huge black smudge over the camera. I complained online this morning and someone was supposed to get back to me and nobody ever did. Someone suggested checking the outside camera to see if there was something there. I Googled it to see where that was, really well hidden. I used my fingers to try to clear it and my fingers were black. Sure enough, that was the issue. I purchased my 2019 Volkswagen AllTrack in May of 2020... to date it has spent 6+ weeks in Service (yes... it is met the criteria of lemon law). Volkswagen does not seem to understand there is a worldwide pandemic going... and that King County has yet to make it fully into phase 2 of reopening. There are those Trump based Covid Deniers out there... and this dealership is part of the problem. They seem to find it perfectly acceptable to continually send me out in a car that breaks down on the freeway... on the way to the grocery store... trying to make a living during these trying times. They seem to find it perfectly acceptable to put me and my family in harm's way to economize corporate profits despite my health, safety, science, and public health. Imagine yourself... stuck on the freeway... car broken down... your children in the back... for a good hour... dealing with tow truck drivers climbing through your car without a mask... and then loading everyone in an Uber... praying no-one gets sick. Now imagine having to do this day after day... for weeks on end... every time your car has been released from dealership (again... and again... and again) ... the constant stress of not knowing you'll be able to make it to your destination safely. Now imagine having to deal with the Volkswagen Customer Care team... you've seen those video's of Trump officials telling you to drink Bleach and get back to work... and send your kids to school... denying there's a global pandemic... this will be your experience... it's like Trump press conference... and you're the one trying to get a straight answer. This will be your life. The 0% interest looks good now... the blow to your pocketbook... personal safety... and health... will last for years! The service center at University Volkswagen truly goes above and beyond to make sure you're taken care of. I purchased my Tiguan used from them in 2020 and have had no issues with the vehicle, but bring it in for regular checks/maintenance and have an amazing experience every time. Today they performed a complementary inspection and even washed/vacuumed my car. I walked away without spending a dime and love that I can trust them not to suggest unnecessary maintenance. Adam in the service center is SO kind and personable and made the experience of dropping off/picking up my car truly enjoyable. Expect them to have your vehicle for a good chunk of the day, but the wait is SO worth it. It is so nice to be taken care of by a dealership even after you've purchased the car. Covid-space: I came in to trade in my car and purchase a new one. Covid-Policies were purchased and I was able to make an appt with someone to make sure I received services. Overall, purchase time took 3-4 hours which was typical for me. Tips and Tricks: Anytime you need to go grocery shopping and visit this place, keep the car in the parking lot and take a stroll down to trader Joes to avoid the craziness of that place! Overall: I've been a VW customer for 4 years and appreciate the friendly service and ease, especially during a pandemic. I've been coming to University Volkswagen since I was in high school! My first car, a 1978 Rabbit always got special care there. 35 years later and the service is still top notch. Stopped in yesterday because I couldn't figure out a strange electrical problem and Tom and the front desk stepped up with the same friendly and professional service that make University Volkswagen a great place to visit. He didn't mind asking the "electrical guru" a couple questions for me and answering a few himself. Very cool. Taking a vehicle to "the dealership" can be intimidating, but they make it easy. I've been a customer at University Volkswagen since I moved to Seattle, and I wanted to specifically give a shout out to the professionalism and cleanliness standards of their service department during this COVID-19 Pandemic. I had to take my car in for service this week, and they had clear instructions to patrons for social distancing. All employees were wearing masks. They disinfected my keys and they just took all proper steps to make me feel as a customer, that they were serious about everyone's health and safety. They also had instructions for contactless payment, and just having these options clearly communicated made me feel really safe as a customer. And the car service itself was exceptional as always, and I appreciate getting a video clip for the diagnostic.
