Tried this place out for the first time today. I actually won a free cupcake via facebook, which was an added bonus. My husband and I have no dietary restrictions, but a good buddy of ours is gluten sensitive and he raves about this place. We can now see why! We got a cinnamon roll with cream cheese icing and the 'monkey' (chocolate, banana, peanut butter) cupcake. They both were SO good. A lot of gluten free baked goods that I've tried before don't taste like normal baked goods (re: they are gross, dense, lacking in flavor)... but Unrefined's are delicious. The cinnamon roll was a more muffin-like consistency rather than your traditional flaky rolled cinnamon roll, but the cupcake was exactly like a regular cupcake consistency-wise. I never would have known it was from this specialty bakery if a friend had just brought it to a party. Basically, THE LOADED MONKEY CUPCAKE IS AMAZING. Three words: Gooey fudge/PB center. I am not a huge banana person either, and the banana flavor was just right. I am sad that I only got one.... I will return soon to buy a dozen... at least. Currently doing keto and they have keto friendly options! Their keto pumpkin cupcake did not disappoint. They also have keto sandwich bread. At $13 a loaf though it's pretty pricey so that won't be a regular purchase for me but it has good flavor and has good texture. All in all, it was a great first trip and I'm happy I found this place. I'm so impressed by the amazing variety and quality of gluten free foods that Unrefined has to offer! After discovering that my ongoing health issues were linked to gluten a few years ago I pretty much gave up on the thought that I'd ever enjoy another piece of bread or delicious cupcake again, as most gluten free products don't taste much better than your mid grade cardboard box. In the past year or so, it's become easier to find descent tasting GF treats, but wow - Unrefined has made it easy to find AMAZING GF treats and bread! I LOVE the Yeast Free Paleo Bread. By far my fave item from Unrefined. I love the dense texture and the slightly sweet aroma. I find that it makes an awesome treat to toast a slice then spread on a little bit of honey. My husband has no issue with any food allergies but he's a trooper and will generally try anyplace that I find where GF products are available. He was sooo impressed by the cupcakes at Unrefined! He couldn't believe that he was eating a treat that was Gluten Free and Dairy Free. While there, I had a Chocolate Chip Almond Cookie that was super yummy and I tried an Italian Creme Cake Ball. The cake ball was good - though I'm not sure it should be classified as a cake ball. It was much more like just eating a ball of uncooked dough. Good, non-the-less. When I arrived, they had a great selection of treats. I had never been before and decided to give it a try. I am always in search of places in Dallas that offer gluten free. I was diagnosed just two years ago with celiac disease and found out that I was unable to eat gluten. So, imagine my frustration with trying to find any bakeries that taste good, but cater to my needs. This place delivered. When I went, I tried the chocolate cake, mini-mix, and fudge brownies. My thoughts on the chocolate cake was that while dense and slightly dry, (which is often a problem with gluten-free baking) the flavor was present. The icing was the correct amount of heaviness, and sweetness. A problem, I find, with most gluten-free icing is the after-taste and sugar film it leaves behind. This icing was light, and fluffy. The fudge brownie's texture was spot-on and just the right amount of sweetness. It was perfect for my chocolate craving and very good for a gluten-free brownie. Customer service: The woman at the front counter, was extremely helpful. When we came in to order for the office, she was polite in telling us that normally we must order 24 hours in advance so they can pre-make for our group. Instead, she then offered what they had available and explained all our options to me. I was very pleased with their selection, and the customer service experience that was provided. We stopped in this morning thought we'd try a couple cookies and get a couple bags of an attractive looking snack mix. 9 cookie + 2 snack bags = $41. Are you kidding me? Decided to visit this bakery on a whim. We happened to be in the area for other business and wanted a treat that would not be too heavy, so we made a quick detour to Unrefined. We walked in around 10:15 AM and thought that maybe we came in the service entrance. We were greeted by workers in the back. Someone came out to serve us and we realized that this WAS the bakery. There wasn't much of a store front, other than a small display case with some cupcakes and a freezer full of frozen baked goods. We were quite disappointed not to find more fresh items like a normal bakery would have. After some questions to the friendly front gal, we decided to go with the carrot and the lemon cupcake. To our chagrin, the price was $4 per cupcake, so $8 total. Pretty expensive for such small cupcakes. My wife was in a low blood sugar mood, so she started on her cupcake right away. She got happy while eating it and said that it was pretty good. I tried the carrot cupcake. It was okay. I didn't taste any difference between a regular carrot cake and this gluten-free version, so I guess it was a success? But, it was not so amazing that I would pay $4 and drive out of my way to eat it again. So, I will probably never come back here for the following reasons: -poor selection and display -lack of freshly baked items -really high prices I understand this is a niche bakery and they charge a premium. I have no problem paying money for good food, but I just didn't feel that the cupcake was worth it. read more

Soooo happy to finally find a gluten-free bakery not halfway around the world! When I got back from New York's Babycakes bakery, I was sad that I would never find such a place again. But I was pleasantly surprised at work on my birthday when my coworkers so kindly bought me a gluten free cake!! It was the first time since being diagnosed nearly 5 years ago to having anything even remotely close to a cake as delicious as this was. Even though it's an hour away, I have been back (and sent my boyfriend back... hehe) at least 3 times. This is a lovely place. I was diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity a few years ago (did not do full testing to confirm celiac) and really grieved not being able to eat desserts outside of things I made myself. I was later diagnosed by blood test with a corn allergy. This was devastating because the majority of the gluten-free products I used contained corn. All that said, this is the first bakery that I've seen that is not only gluten free but mostly corn free as well, this is a game changer and makes me so happy, when I want a sweet treat I don't have to make it myself, I can grab a delicious Brown Velvet cupcake or a chocolate chip or ginger cookie. I love that I don't even have to really think about my dietary restrictions when I walk in. The staff is very friendly, they have keto, paleo, and vegan options. I'm so glad this is near my job so I can frequent it on a regular basis! I have become a sucker for their sandwiches and the iced strawberry green tea. The sugar cookies, cranberry almond, and chocolate chunk pecan cookies are my other great weakness. The Mix (similar to Chex mix but tastier) and the nut bars are great little snacks. I love this bakery! Fortunately, we don't need to come here for allergies or other intolerances, but we choose to for our occasional treats because it's so good!! My toddler loves the cupcakes, husband loves the mix, and I love the rusks. It's a bit expensive, but I think it's worth paying more for the best ingredients and products made by real people who care about those who depend on their food to live a somewhat normal digestive life. I met the owners at the GFAF Expo last year. Since then, I have been purchasing Paleo bread via mail order. Paleo bread, pumpkin bread (huge success at Christmas with non GF family and friends), and the cupcakes with frosting are so delicious. Taylor and Anne create amazing food bars which fit in with all my food allergies. They know exactly what is in each item and the nutrition values of each. I love that Taylor is always welcoming whenever I call to place an order, and always willing to answer my food allergy questions regarding new products. The owners seemed to be bothered by my questions and gave me half answers and basically poopooed my inquiries. The daughter, I believe named Taylor came off as a total know it all snob. I have been here many times. I used to workout next door, and my daughter currently attends ballet next door to them. I have had their coffee, cake balls, bread, muffins, and nut mix. My favorite things are the 5-grain bread and the kombucha tea (my absolute fav)! The bread is so good and dense--what you'd want and expect from a GF or Paleo bread. The muffins are gooey and sweet. The coffee was pretty good, too. I am in agreement with the notion that the outdated plastic bins need to go. With three stores, I am sure they can afford to get some cute new plates to accompany their cute and delicious food. I also was overcharged for muffins one trip there. Since we were in the area, my wife heard about this place and wanted to drop by. This places makes all gluten-free items. We tried one of their brownies, and my wife got a muffin and a food bar to try. They we saw their yeast bread. They have yeast bread in either a large loaf or individual rolls. I went here this morning to get some muffins because I didn't have time to make treats for the cancer center, where I volunteer. I needed a dozen, which I told the young lady who helped me. We agreed on a variety. I waited 5+ minutes for said muffins. I was SHOCKED when the price came to $42! On the menu it says $14/package. I didn't use a magnifying glass but I did not see on the menu what the definition of a "package" is. Obviously, that would've been a good question to ask since I paid $3.50/muffin! $42 for 12 muffins is ridiculous. read more
