Friend and I went on a whim and ordered some calzones. I was a little nervous with the bottom line that such a high price for a calzones would leave me wanting more. Although it took quite a long time for us to receive them, the cook kept us informed. When they came out, I kid you not, they were about the size of my head! Then finding ricotta cheese as well as mozzarella cheese inside was a welcome surprise. However next time i'd like for the menu to indicate that because my friend and I weren't sure if she could eat the ricotta because she's pregnant (soft cheeses could be harmful to the baby like Mexican queso fresco or feta). I called for a to go order. I requested two slices of cheese and one veggie slice. Person on the phone told me what it would cost. I asked if I could pay with a card over the phone. Answer was no and then I was told I could only by two slices. Either two cheese or one cheese and one veggie. This made no sense to me and I asked why if all three were available I couldn't purchase all three. The person on the phone was getting instructions from someone else. I won't bore you with the explanation as it made no sense.. I confirmed I'd be down to pick up my TWO slices. Once I arrived the cashier asked my name and rang me up, took my $20 and then I was told they couldn't sell me the two slices. I was astonished and asked why? They said they weren't doing anymore slices. In full view was a half of cheese pizza. I asked why I couldn't have those. It was then the person who appeared to be in charge said to the employee dealing with me something along the line of why are you explaining anything to me. They indicated they tried calling me which they did however my ringer was on silent. They called 12 minutes after my order. I let them know I drove a considerable distance which was about 7 miles. They obviously weren't moved since no one ever apologized instead it was just the opposite they made me feel like I was a bother. This is the first time I've ever written a review. I own a number of service business' so I'm sensitive to how things can happen but this was the middle finger. I know a bad culture when I see it. Obviously they've seen the last of me. read more

We own the Salon next door and feel so lucky to have them a few steps away. The $4 slice and soda can not be beat and the quality is always top notch. The staff with Jason, Celina, Isiah and Brandon has always been super friendly and on top of their game at all times. If the salon is busy and there is a wait we always recommend our clients to walk over before their service if they are hungry and our customers always come back happy with the experiance. Wow we were impressed. For some reason Upper Crust slipped my mind and it had been several years since I or my boyfriend had experienced their food. It was a lazy Sunday and we wanted somewhere other than our norms and Upper Crust came up. I called in the order and the woman taking my order was fantastic! She let me know the specials and then proceeded to take my order, repeated the order back to me and said our dinner would be there in 45 minutes. Despite one of our bigger monsoons the order arrived right on time and the delivery driver was really pleasant despite being drenched in rain. We ordered the garden salad for two and took advantage of the $11.99 large one topping special but added two more toppings. The pizza was delicious, perfect crust, right amount of toppings, and not overly greasy. The salad was a meal in itself with lots of veggies and cheese. Upper Crust probably has the best lunch special in town...you get a giant slice of pizza and a drink for under $4. The pizza is pretty good, definitely one of the better pizza joints in Tucson. It's greasy (like, needing to blot with a napkin greasy) deliciousness!. read more

Ahhh man, Upper Crust. It's a love-hate thing here. So, I live in the neighborhood behind Upper Crust and work at the business right across the street from Upper Crust. I would love to call this place my go-to pizza joint, but I just caaaan't. The owner is great. He's a charming funny guy who genuinely cares about his pizza and the people he's serving it to. The times when he was the one who made my pizza were the best. The slices are insane. Like one Upper Crust slice is the equivalent to an entire DiGiorno pizza...except it's obviously tastier. Their menu offers a variety of meat and veggie toppings. Being a vegetarian, it's always a relief to find a place where my options aren't limited. I like to get spinach and zucchini on my pizza...that is, when they actually have those ingredients. Maybe I should talk about why I can't call this place my go-to pizza joint. So, look, I'm all for the laid-back stoner employee pizza joint idea. Seriously, it's great. Except, the wrong stoners have been hired here, man. One of the first time I went, some dirty looking girl (and this isn't me being an asshole, you could literally see a patchy layer of filth on her skin) with her bra hanging out of her tank top greeted me, well, kinda. She more just said "what's up" after I stood awkwardly in front of the register for 30 seconds. She kept getting distracted from my order by some loud kid cracking jokes in the back. I had paid for my order when she told me that they didn't have 2 of the 3 toppings I asked for that day. She didn't offer a refund or a discount or anything. I just had to figure out two other veggie toppings on the spot. Nothing else stood out to me, so she just goes "Uhh we could just do, like, triple spinach?" It took probably 10 minutes for them to get out my pizza. They didn't wear gloves (they never do). This normally doesn't bother me at all, except for this chick's skin looked the way I imagine a 2 week deceased corpse smells. When I finally got the pizza, there was no more spinach on it than there usually is. I suppose I should be relieved. I can't even imagine what triple spinach would look like. The crust was hard and I felt like shit for the rest of the day. Since it's the only place within walking distance from my work that I can get food at, I've gone here a few times since. Unfortunately, the owner is never there when I go, the staff is always too stoned to function, the crust is always way too chewy, and they are usually out of the ingredients I want. I brought my friend here once, and the service was shit as usual. When we were on our way out, the only 3 staff members were sitting at a table, eating pizza (wearing their aprons) and watching Tokyo Drift on the T.V. I asked the guy who made our pizza if he wanted me to leave the plates on the table or if there was another place he wanted me to put them and he goes "Do whatever you want" all the while staring at the screen. The other night I went there with my boyfriend. He ordered a super meaty pizza and got me a veggie slice. He made it clear to the cashier that I was a vegetarian, and said "just in case you want to change your gloves or something". The kid looked at him like he was stupid and said "uh okay." After a 10 minute wait, the kid brings out a single to-go box and says "I hope it's okay that I put them both in the same box." I'm not a freak so I wasn't that pissed about it, until I opened the box and realized that our pizzas were part of the same slice. They basically just made one giant slice and put his toppings on one half and my toppings on the other. Bits of meat found their way to my side of the pizza and basically my whole meal was ruined. On top of that, my boyfriend tipped like 40% because he's too nice. I was really hoping that would be reflected in the quality of our meal, but it wasn't. My advise to everyone is to go in the daytime. That's usually when the owner is there and the pizza is at it's best. Anytime after 6, though, seems like stoner hour. read more

When you tire of the foo foo pizza places like Vero Amore and Vivace, go try some real pizza. I grew up in New York, and Upper Crust Pizza reminds me of the pizza I loved as a kid. Tried a slice of cheese pizza- it was VERY good! There was a nice balance between sauce and cheese, additionally, the crust was perfectly crispy on the bottom. Really great NY style pizza! The downside: horrid service. The lady that took my order acted like she couldn't care less and was borderline rude. This was on a Saturday night, so they had a lot of orders, but no one seemed to feel the need to do things quickly... at all. I'm not suggesting they frantically run around like the world is going to end if they don't get pizzas out quickly, but there should be at least a slight sense of urgency and a desire to get people their food on time. By the time I left, I'd watched a man wait on his food for 45 minutes and then they messed his order up because they hadn't even bothered to keep the tickets their proper order AND THEN they were very unapologetic about the mishap (and making him wait 20 minutes more than promised). They just didn't care!! My plan for the future: order an hour and a half before I actually want the pizza! Update: I have, since my initial post, gotten two large pizzas from Upper Crust and have NOT BEEN PLEASED! They have been soggy and had a less than appetizing flavor. Their sanitation practices are also quite scary... No gloves, nasty clothing, employees wiping their hands on their shirts/pants then handling money and THEN making pizzas... They have huge slices! The size of a small pizza. And they don't skimp on the toppings. Plus a Dr. Pepper option on the soda fountain and amazing ice (you know the kind I mean...it's all crumby and chewable...yum...) Having grown up in Central New York, I've always had a specific idea for how pizza should be: not too thin, not too thick, crispy crust with adequate but not overpowering sauce, cheese and toppings. I won't go into detail on why the pizza is good, there's already tons of reviews extolling its virtues and I generally agree with the previous positive reviews. If you're going to Brooklyn Pizza Co. because you like surly hipsters (which hey, I do too), Upper Crust has that. 4/5 or so pizzas I've had delivered have been by young tattooed chicks. Do you like a bit of aloofness from your local pizza joint because it makes you feel like Clerks was set in Tucson? Me too! They have that too! Wow I can't believe I have never tried this place! We ordered delivery and our combo pizza came loaded with pepperoni, sausage, red onion, mushrooms and black olives. It was delicious. We also ordered some wings and a salad. The wings were ok nothing spectacular and we didn't even get to the salad but it looks great. Wow my husband came home with some pizza from here and I wanted his food versus what I got from another place. The crust is crusty and the cheese is delicious. This compares to empire pizza. They both have a different texture and taste but they are both sooo delicious. I would come def get another slice here again. Btw, the slices are huge! read more

My husband and I get a pizza from Upper Crust almost every Friday. It is one of our favorite traditions in Tucson. The dough is awesome. The sauce is awesome. They have special combos and also sell beer. It's always a treat. They also send out coupons (we live sort of nearby) every now and then, which we really really appreciate. Upper Crust is fantastic. Poor customer service. Use caution when ordering from this establishment. Placed an order using a coupon for a CatCard special. No where on the coupon does it stipulate limit on number of pizzas. We ordered 3 pizzas and when we brought it to the attention of the cashier and manager. The manager did not come from the back of the establishment to address the concern. Worst pizza I've ever tasted in Tucson!. I ordered the "Jumbo Slice" with sausage. The slice itself was mostly crust with very little cheese and sauce on it. They heated the slice in the oven and cooked the sausage in a microwave. After the slice was reheated in the oven it was placed in a to go box and then the sausage was thrown on top of the slice. upon eating this slice, sausage would fall off of it everywhere. The sausage had no flavor at all, not a hint of spicyness to it. No more Upper Crust pizza ever again! read more

We ordered two pizzas last night, a Hawaiian and the special off their online menu, and were delivered a different special than what was listed. We called to request the right pizza, and were told that they just hadn't updated the menu and that the special we ordered wasn't the special anymore. They refused to reimburse us, refused to make the correct pizza, insisted that it was our fault, not theirs, and were nothing but rude and confrontational the entire time. One employee lied about being the manager when we asked to speak to a manager, who we eventually did speak to, but received no help from. In all fairness, the one correct pizza that we received was not terrible. However $20 each is still a ripoff for the size and quality of pizzas we got, even if they had both been the right pizzas. read more
