GOOD PIZZA. POOR DELIVERY. We always loved Upper Crust, but when we ordered in February 2020 the taste was really bad -- it was clear that the recipe and quality of ingredients changed. Flyer in the mail yesterday said "New management. Back to original recipes." So we tried it again. Taste was back to what it used to be (good!). But delivery was late. I placed the order at 5pm for later scheduled delivery at 7. Online tracker said driver left with the order at 7. But it didn't arrive until 7:45, and was just sightly warmer than room temperature. We live close enough to walk and pick it up, so we might try it again because the recipe/taste is back. But we also love Picco, and that's right across the street from us (easy easier to pick up). read more

So, it's not awful...lots of potential. I find that the pies are super inconsistent. Burnt edges with a goopy, soggy mess in the middle. Asking for it well done doesn't help. (Online order) Ordered two pizzas, one margharita w/ extra cheese, one vegan with toppings, and an order of pasta with meatballs. The vegan pizza was fine but they forgot the pasta with meatballs, and instead opted to put meatballs on half of the margharita pizza (which of course did NOT have extra cheese). The cashier barely said two words, no expression on her face besides seeming like she would rather be anywhere other than there. I have never written a review on yelp before, but I decided I needed to after my terrible experience with Upper Crust. It has been a while since the incident happened, but given that it still hasn't been resolved, I decided that all I can do is to warn people about the terrible service they offer. On Christmas Eve, my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to order some takeout instead of cooking. Instead of the usual Chinese, we decided to go with Upper Crust. We checked the calendar online beforehand, and saw that they had only marked Christmas as a day off so we thought that they were open on Christmas Eve. We put in an online order, and given that it went through and we got a confirmation email, we figured that it was all set. After a couple hours, we had not received our delivery, so we thought it was probably closed and decided to just cook ourselves a meal. Three days later, a delivery man appears out of the blue with the pizza we delivered on Christmas Eve, saying he was here for a delivery. Confused, I told him I had ordered the pizza a few days ago, but that I no longer needed the pizza THREE DAYS LATER. He had me speak to his boss on the phone who repeatedly asked me if I still wanted the pizza, to which I told him I was not paying for a pizza that arrived three days after I ordered without warning. Granted, I probably would have taken it if they called beforehand and told me they were delivering, but I was not expecting the delivery when it arrived. A few days later, I saw that they had still gone ahead and charged me for the pizza that I had not accepted. I called them asking them if they could remove the charge, and the woman on the phone agreed, but then did not remove the charge. I called again another two times where they said that I would have to speak to their boss and that they would then remove the charge. To this day they have not removed the charge. This is just bad business - I never got my pizza and they won't pay me back. Needless to say, I will not be ordering from them again. read more

I want to give this place one star for how frustrating it is to have their pizza delivered! I have ordered from them three times now since moving to my new place, which is 0.3 miles from the restaurant (I know - but sometimes you just want it delivered!) and EVERY time it has taken longer than 1 1/2 hours. Last night, it was 1 hour, 45 minutes from the time I placed the order until they showed up with the pizza. Are you kidding me?? I don't understand what their issue is but it's a real problem and it's consistent! I give it three stars, however, because the pizzas are great. I really like them. And, I really, really want to like this place but, as it is now, they suck! Sorry - I tried to give you the benefit of doubt the first two times. This is my favorite pizza place. You must try the special BBQ chicken pizza. It is to die for. My boyfriend and I MUST have their pizza at least twice a week. It is our weekly thing to do. If you like thin crust slimy soft crusted pizza, this is the pizzeria for you! Sauce was marginal but it was the fish slimy crust that was revolting. The meat was tasteless/bland. For starters, the circumference of the crust was torched charcoal black--we knew this was a bad sign, how could they even have the gall to serve this ash tray? The cheese was drizzled on in small clumps of gooeyness, as though it served only as a light accessory atop the smeared tomato puree, clearly straight out of the can. This pizza tasted like it was made on the kitchen floor. My girlfriend and I ordered your basic margherita pizza for delivery. Not only did it take nearly an hour but it tasted like garbage. I don't even know if it was the toppings or the bread but as soon as it hit my mouth I wanted to spit it out. It was 9 pm and I had not eaten since breakfast and didn't even finish a slice. I love Upper Crust! I have been going there for years and have yet to have a bad experience. The slices are always large and unlike most pizza places, they bring your order to your table. I have to say that Upper would be a lot better if they expanded the variety of pizza you can order by the slice. They only have cheese, pepperoni and the daily special slice available. My friend and I ordered a mushroom pizza from there once and it was amazing, but unfortnately you cannot order that by the slice. Woman literally is bitching about coming up stairs to my apartment (her job title is "Delivery Person") and when I tell her I am going to step back into my apartment to get her more money for a tip she says "Can you hurry up, I am double parked" I literally just started laughing and handed her what was originally in my hand. 2.5 Stars. Why? 1. Inconsistent Food - sometimes too burnt, sometimes cold, missing toppings, and the list goes on. 2. Bad Service - on reminding staff I had asked for basil and arugula on my pizza, they took it back and put "5" leaves on it and handed it back to me. No apologies. Only grunts. Yet, 1. I went to upper crust for over a year with no complaints. Their pizza was delicious, although overpriced, yet I never really did mind considering the quality was so good. Yet just last week I ordered a pizza from them at 8pm for delivery and the jerks never arrived. My wife's parents were in town from the west coast and I had touted up for months how much better the pizza was on the east coast. By the time I actually called them and asked where the pizza was, they claimed they had never received my order and went on to say that they were closing in a half hour and doubted they could put in my order. Never deal with these people unless you have a lot of time to waste on them losing your order and calling you a liar over the phone. I'm not sure why Upper Crust is only rated 3.5 stars, I've lived in Boston 21 years now, while I never took much of an interest in this restaurant, lately Ive tried many of their items and I have been blown away by some of the ideas they have come up with. Their pizza is very good when you get a whole fresh one (I have not had their slices) but recently they have advertised new sandwiches. I have tried to meatball Parmesan and the steak and cheese, both have been superb. If you're looking for a quick snack after work, their sandwiches are very good! They are not conventional sandwiches and are served on an almost open face calzone, almost like a pizza dough that is thinner and lighter, wrapped like a taco around whatever insides they offer. The reviews here are very mixed, but I guess I am just lucky that The Upper Crust serves the type of pizza I love. I prefer thin crust pizza, that comes right out of the wood-fire oven with slightly (or sometimes really) charred/crispy crust. They also manage to put on the perfect amount of cheese in my opinion. Enough, but not overwhelming. It's greasy. But I am one of those annoying people who sops up a lot of grease with napkins (wasteful, I know) so the excess grease never seemed to matter to me. Mainly, I love upper crust because it was my go to spot with a good friend while living in Boston, and though it helped contribute to my ever expanding waste-line and behind, it also was always a good place to vent, gossip, etc. without fear of being overheard. I must say that I was very disappointed with upper crust. my first experience was good so I decided to order delivery. we ordered the three cheese pizza...half the pizza was burnt BLACK. although they claim to have free delivery, I was charged a delivery fee even though I live 5 minutes walking distance away from them. the pizza was nearly cold..burnt and waaaaaaaaaaay to garlicy. to top it off ofcourse they forgot to include the crushed red peppers, depite the fact that I specifically requested them during the order. that's the last time i'm paying over 30 bucks for burnt pizza :( read more

I ordered a hamburger calzone and it tasted really good. And it was really big, but I guess that's appropriate given that I paid about $11 for it. The only downside with the food is that the sauce it came with was too watery for my taste and the edges of the calzone tasted really burnt. My main problem with the Upper Crust is that I had to wait over 40 minutes for my calzone and every time I asked the staff how long it would be, they practically brushed me off and just told me it was still being made. It does not take 40 minutes to make a calzone. And when it was done, they just put it in a box and put it aside without telling me it was done. Luckily I saw the box with my name on it and I asked them for it. And the guy who handed it to me acted like it had been done for a long time and that I was an idiot for not noticing it sooner. read more

I love pizza. There is a pizza out there for every mood. Thick and doughy, extra cheesy, loaded with toppings, thin and crispy, deep dish, so many variations and ways to change it up! The Upper Crust definitely have done something right. When you are in the mood for crispy, thin, tasty pizza this is the place to go! Everything is always super fresh and tempting to my palate. Yes, they are a small chain, but they still do a great job. It doesn't taste like a mass produced, homogenized mess (I'm thinking of YOU Domino's). I have never once been disappointed. Like I said, there is a pizza for every mood. You don't want the same one every time. Sure, they may be pricy, but they definitely use the freshest, highest quality ingredients so I don't mind! read more
