For what the place is, a small hole in the wall with great bang-for-buck menu items, Chacho's is a great little sub/pizza shop. By no means is Chacho's a neighborhood hidden gem, but it's latin American-inspired foods, along with their low prices, is what sets it apart from other places in the Mission Hill/Longwood neighborhood. It was here that I discovered my love for empanadas. At Chacho's you can choose between beef or chicken empanadas. They are savory and rich in flavor packed in flakey pastries. If I remember correctly, each empanada runs about $1.60/1.65. I have a hard time not $10 on empanadas alone when I go here. I recommend the chicken one!

Smell - hearing - sight - touch - taste. This in the order in which Chacos will find and leave your senses... Their cartoon aroma wafts through Roxbury into Brookline, causing your feet to levitate inches from the ground as you float nose-first towards redolence... Your ears pick up the dull roar of humanity enjoying itself... Your eyes catch sight of the unassuming brickwork of Chaco's which houses children with blasting iPods, hipsters, college kids clad Western garb, old men in scrubs, 20 somethings blocking traffic on Tremont as they stop to chat with patrons who saunter over to their cars, biz cas city boys, urban selectees and all other manner of personage Boston has to offer... Your hand grasps the plate they hand you, rarely used muscles flexing to balance the surprising weight... And after several minutes of quiet munching beneath wide eyes you will speak aloud the word "wow" with raised eyebrows to your dining companion... Chaco's offers criminally underpriced street slices of pizza, solid sandwiches and all manner of tacoy goodness... providing dinner and a show every time you stop by...

Everything is awesome from Chacho's. Been going since high school. Either sub shop stuff or Spanish food, definitely on point.

I love this spot. Great prices on slices of pizza, empanadas, and fried plantain ($2 for a pint last time I checked).

Salty Pig Pizza: A pizza with the same name as the restaurant! Who was the genius who came up with the idea of salted pig and beer caramel? It's brilliant! The salted pork appears to include Prosciutto di Parma from Langirano, Prosciutto Cotto, and Salcissia. Baking rendered the prosciutto's fat, which blends with the caramel to create a beautiful golden syrup that flows across the pizza's surface. The prosciutto was savory, oily, and tender; the minced salcissia retains its coarse texture and rich meaty aroma; the caramel was sweet and mellow with a honey-like sweetness, forming the top, middle, and base notes respectively. The arugula was slightly warmed, losing its astringent and raw taste while maintaining its crisp texture, helped to cut through the richness together with the Parmesan cheese powder. The crust was crispy, while the inside the dough was soft and chewy. The cooking time and seasoning were all just right, and the restaurant's proud wooden oven added a charming smoky flavor. Affogato: I had high expectations, but it was just okay. The espresso was too sour, and the vanilla ice cream couldn't balance it out. The almond biscuits had an overpowering almond flavor, and the flavor of plant-based protein was terrible! (Oh, this should have been a plus...)

Without hesitation he said "New York Pizza. It's just a couple blocks away". And off we went, walking the streets of Boston to get pizza, having no idea what we were heading towards. When we arrived we were greeted with a storefront and order-at-the-counter pizza. Not what I was expecting, but I was OK with it. We looked at the menu and -- WOW -- the pizza options were nearly endless! I'm guessing about two dozen pizza varieties with more combinations of toppings that I thought were mathematically possible. And these pizzas were H U G E ! There are about a dozen tables and not enough chairs at New York Pizza, so if you find an empty chair - hey, fair game. We managed to get 4 chair for our high top four top. While we were placing our order I asked the guy behind the counter if this place was always this busy. He said "busy? This is slow!". I can't even imagine, because every table was occupied. Aside from the menu boards and the music (they were playing a varied playlist of 80s, 90s, and 2000s), it wasn't big on décor, but it suited it's purpose. I imagine the do a pretty significant takeout business. After about 2 minutes of consideration we landed on a Meat Lover's pizza. After a day of A LOT of walking, a pizza with pepperoni, ham, and sausage sounded 100% perfect. I looked like a lot of pizza. And I recall thinking "there's no way the four of us can eat a pizza that big!". (more on that later). There is no soda fountain so your beverage came out of a can or bottle from a refrigerator. Fast forward about 12 minutes and our pizza was called. It. Was. Freaking. Enormous. And it looked SOOO good. And it was hot. I mean HAWT! It was so hot we had to let it set for about 5 minutes before we could grab a slice. (non sequitur) I've never been a fan of folding pizza in half. I've given shade to people who fold pizza in half quite a few times. After much consideration, I now feel like I need to apologize to those people. This pizza was so big and the crust so thin that you had to fold it in half...and I'm going to sheepishly admit that I embraced the folding of the pizza slice. For one thing, to keep from scalding the inside of my mouth, and to keep from wearing pizza sauce on either side of you face like Joker. The pizza amazingly delicious and we ate with abandon. Seriously. Remember how I said the four of us could never eat a pizza that large? I lied.
